Our son and his fiancee were visiting for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we took a drive downtown and ended up in Hyde Park. The other two coffee shops were already closed for the day (at 12:30), and good for them. Java was still open, and very busy. We liked the energy, and the staff were very nice. It's a place where people come to just relax and hang out, and people just seemed to be enjoying themselves. I didn't get a drink, but my wife, our son, and his fiancee all enjoyed theirs. We will definitely be back.

I’m a vanilla latte girl but I was feeling festive and ordered the white mocha and it was the best coffee drink I’ve ever had. The thick cream they put in it should be sold in large vats. It was literally the best thing I’ve ever consumed.
This place was one of my favorite coffee shops when living in Boise. It's very sad that over the years the place has not maintained the quality of service and the warm and charming atmosphere that it once was. Updating the decor and ensuring that the quality of food and beverages are always consistent will provide the customer satisfaction and reputation that once made Java the best coffee shop in the North End.

Absolutely lovely neighborhood coffee shop.

Great vibes inside, awesome patio, right in the heart of Hyde Park.
Fair price, clean facility, snack bar has great options. And the toddler area is wonderful. We enjoyed ourselves!

Great place for great coffee. If you’re needing some strong and quality coffee while walking down Hyde Park definitely go here. Service was very quick and helpful with recommendations. Besides lots of drink options, they had a pretty good list of pastries on their menu. I also loved the cutesy rustic theme they had and enjoyed bringing an old friend here to chat and catch up for a brief moment. There is so much charm to this place—I’ll have to come back later when I want to get some work or studying done!
I come here for the lotus energy drinks, but I stay for the vibes. I get an orange dreamsicle lotus and the chive and cheddar scone. The girls are sweet and I love stopping in to get caught up on some work

Excellent little coffeehouse with house made scones, breads and lunch fare. The baristas were very friendly. I recommend the cinnamon scone with an Americano, sweet bites between coffee sips.
I had a hot coffee and a cinnamon streusel. Both were good. It is a very nice comfortable spot to come for a coffee in a cool part of town. You must stop in
BEWARE OF PLANET KIDS IN BOISE BY COSTCO!!
I took my son to Planet Kid yesterday for the first time. I took my niece there years ago and never was told about a waiver. Fast forward the employee yesterday never told me I had to sign anything.
I went up with my son on the jungle gym. We went down the pink slide, he went first. When I went down my braid hooked on a screw that was lose from the top. It yanked a chunck of my hair out and my neck hurts today. I'm concerned about the future kids who go down this slide. They put a piece of duct tape on the screw even though the employee said it should have some padding on it also.
Called to talk to a manager today. She was extremely RUDE, explained it's on the list for the maintance person to fix but kids are still using this slide. She never said sorry for it happeneing but rather scolded me for not signing a waiver that was in a binder with a fuzzy pink pen that the employee never brought to my attention when I paid. We went round and round with that one. Ultimately with the manager saying it's the parent's responsibility.
I don't recommend this place!!!!
Excellent place for kiddos 4-8y. We brought our daughter here when she was 2.5y and there wasn't a whole lot she could do, but as soon as she was bigger at 3-4y, she was climbing all over the place! We are very impressed with the level and amount of obstacles in this space. There's plenty of challenge here as well. Really great place to get that energy out and working on problem solving skills with how to get through the obstacles. Our daughter is very adventurous and has always had a wonderful time. Great snack bar too, plus nice seating area. Would be a great place for a small (~10 kids) birthday party!
Walked in on a typical Hyde Park Saturday late morning. There was no line, so I approached the young lady working her register. I gave a cheerful greeting and was met with a surly, stone faced non response. She seemed as if I was interrupting her quiet time, and she had more important things to do.

I just shrugged my shoulders and walked out. There is a perfectly fine coffee shop just down the block, so my family and I now make our weekly trips for coffee and breakfast in Hyde Park at Java.
Cool spot. Coffee is good. Sweet pastries are good. Def a coffee and sweet spot. Food was not good, at all. Fat soaked food with poor quality ingredients- they serve gravy from a jar.. not making your own gravy is pretty bad
Besides the great food and atmosphere, the staff are the nicest. Even at busy times they are really chill. My daughter is potty training and this was the first place she asked to go potty. She nailed it so I went to the register and asked for a treat and they hooked her up with choc chips and marshmallows.
Love you guys.

This review is based upon the Avimor location.

Peaceful place to go as far as location and interior design. Can be busy. Staff is hit and miss. Some of the young gals are very friendly, others can be very friendly to some customers and cordial at best to others (and not just ourselves). I have been in at 5:30 (they close at 6) and it was quite obvious that she was not happy I came in at that time. Asking for a mug to drink my coffee from was like pulling teeth as she wanted me to use a paper cup. I ended up feeling pushed to accept the paper cup.

Music as also is very loud, you really have to raise your voice or lean in to communicate to the person you are sitting with. If they play music it should be classical or jazz and played softly.

Lastly, I cannot stand the fact that they allow dogs to come inside. I love dogs but they do not belong in a coffee shop - this isn’t CA, plus dogs carry germs.

I hope they can make these changes with the dogs, music, and a more consistent staff because the owners seem genuine and it is a lovely coffee shop
Took my one year old here twice. The first time it was a very busy Saturday and the 2 and under zone was filled with big kids that kept hurting him (mostly on accident) but I figured it was just a crazy busy day so we tried coming again on a calm weekday when it was almost empty. All the older kids were still in the 2 and under area. Employees don’t keep an eye on this area and parents don’t tell their kids not to come in. Usually the older kids are running around not looking and jumping in the ball pit. My one year old was trampled a couple of times. Very disappointed because he really was having so much fun but it’s just not a safe space, they need to control the 2 and under area.
Lovely, spacious breakfast spot with huge, delicious portions. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with a bagel that was just the right size and a giant raspberry scone to go. If I’m ever swinging through again, I’ll definitely return.

Cute coffee shop with amazing food and high quality coffee! Great options that are all delicious. There's a good amount of seating as well, and even in the busy Sunday brunch rush, we were able to get a table right after we ordered. The service is amazing! It's also super cute that there's a gift shop inside with a big selection of fun coffee-related and non-coffee-related gifts. Loved it!
Cheap and fun. Just what people need in this crazy economy. The food though....not gonna lie kinda bad. The pretzels were frozen so when they thaw and bake they are like rubber, the cheese for them cost extra and it has no flavor, so if you ask me would I return for the kids to have fun hell yeah. Would I ever eat here again? Nope. I'd rather smuggle food in my purse then eat her again. Just not good at all.

This is the kind of premium specialty coffee that you must enjoy seated at a table with people you care about. Carefully prepared and beautifully presented. A coffee experience that you might think about as you are falling asleep at night. I can't wait until morning.

Always great! I used to live in Boise and this was probably my favorite shop to work at. I would call them a coffee curator, meaning they don’t roast their own coffee or use one roaster’s beans. They look for the best roasters around the country (and some outside the country as well!) and have many great options in stock to purchase and several different options at a time to try. Great coffee, great atmosphere, great location.
I like when businesses make it easy for me to decide if I want to give my business to them.
My mom and I were driving through and were going to stop here, but selected a different shop instead.
Walked up to the front door and saw a 'love is love, blm, science is real, etc' sign posted on their window and decided that there are plenty of other coffee shops to support that don't have signs like this posted which we don't agree with at all.
Time to start putting our money where our mouths are.
So just want to say thanks for making it clear and easy for us to make a decision and choose a different coffee place to try because there were a lot in town!!
Soooooooooo delicious! 10/10 we will definitely be back again. The biscuits and gravy is HUGE so bring your appetite, we didn't order the burrito but they are bigger around than my arm! You come in and wait in line to order, grab a menu up towards the register on a pole so you can look over the menu. Seating is first come first served so try to grab a seat when they are available. Also the baked goods are all amazing!!!
Went in for an afternoon pick me up - service was incredibly minimal, not inviting or personable. Ordered a chai latte and it was $6.28 - insane for the size and for the quality. Literally steamed oat milk and they use a cheap grocery store chai concentrate that’s incredibly sweet. Not worth the $ to stop in here. Used to be much better but not worth the stop anymore. I added a photo next to a keurig cup for size reference.
Big City Coffee and Cafe is a hidden gem in the heart of Boise ID. Their pastries are simply divine, each bite bursting with flavor and freshness. From flaky croissants to mouthwatering cinnamon rolls, Big City Coffee and Cafe has an impressive selection that will satisfy any pastry lover's cravings. The ambiance of the cafe is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee and a delicious treat. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring that your experience is top-notch. Whether you're a local or just passing through, a visit to Big City Coffee and Cafe is a must for any pastry enthusiast.
Very spacious inside and the ambience is warm and calm. Could easily spend all day here working/studying/people watching.
My daughter had a party at Planet Kid and the party went great! The atmosphere was great, the amount of space we had was great. I loved that it was an open area so the noise was more dispersed than it would have been in a closed party room.

Austin was the person assigned to our group and he was very kind and accommodating! The whole experience was great and 3 of our guests told me they are going to have their parties there in the future!

Thank you so much for everything!
Felt an immediate sense of calmness upon entering this coffee shop. Not only was my cappuccino delicious and made just right, but my amandine (almond croissant) was fresh even at the end of the day. The service was attentive and kind.

This coffee shop is perfection, and it would be my second home if I lived in the area.

There is even a little free library about a block away where I picked up a book to read while I enjoyed my capp.

It felt like an overpriced experience. The avocado toast came with razor thin avocados; more accurate if it’s just called toast. Benedict wasn’t good either.
The place had a great atmosphere and local neighborhood vibe.
We love it here great for little and bigger kids my son is 9 and begs to go 😁
Staff were friendly, the avocado toast was good, and I enjoyed my turmeric latte.
Enjoying a latte on the patio early Monday morning. Inviting open space inside with spacious patio for conversation or work. Coffee is excellent.
Best cafê in the downtown area. I enjoyed the blueberry scone and the latte 😎
The gift shop is also a local gem if you want to get something special for special friends or loved ones.

Opens early and provides a great macchiato! Sat outside and enjoyed the birds, squirrels and folks walking their dogs. Hubby had a mocha with beautiful artwork.
Big City Coffee and Cafe is a fun spot with a “small town roadside” vibe. While staying downtown and needing to be at an event by 7:30AM each day, this was the only cafe open before 7:00AM that provided breakfast.

I had the Tamale Breakfast with chicken. Other than the eggs needing some seasoning, it was a hearty option with a big portion.

The only thing that made this place a little unwelcoming was a staff member that kept running into us and carrying large objects over their head that made us need to duck at the register. Otherwise the other staff were friendly and the cafe was clean.

Great drip coffee - expressive and bright. Cold brew was squeaky clean. Haven't tried espresso drinks yet, but will be sure to in the future!

I needed a t-shirt but they were sold out at the time.
Delicious coffee! Not super sweet and the coffee has great flavor! Recommend the light iced white chocolate lavender mocha! 😋 or hot oatmilk cinnamon latte (picture below)
As an out of towner, I visited this coffee shop per the request of a Boise resident I had a meeting with....I was pleasantly shocked at how kind, fun, and approachable the owner was. I asked for him to make me coffee that was "hot and good." I do this at every coffee shop I go to because it always yields the best result....DELICIOUS!!! If you are in Boise, stop here. It is LOVELY. The ambiance made my soul happy. 😊
Nice place, little bit busy inside, but that is the sort of vibe they are going for. Got a cappuccino, and it was pretty middle of the road, probably 6/10. The baristas were sweet🤍
One of my go to brunch places in Boise. Great food options, decent outdoor seating and very friendly staff. It’s first come first serve here so wait times maybe long in summer. Here’s what we ordered and how we felt:
Nutty buddy - 5/5
Banana split - 5/5
Avocado toast - 4/5
Veggie sandwich - 4/5
Waffles with berries and whip - 5/5

Slow by slow is one of my favorite coffee shops here! Some of the most scrumptious and creative cups of coffee I’ve had!
However ever since I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I would really appreciate it if they had at least one sugar free option so I can order more than just a pour over!
Here is a picture of a delish latte that I had there (back when I could order yummy sweet drinks😂)!
By far the best traditional Expresso and Coffee in Boise. I have been coming here for years and wish I got more coffee here than I do. I first found District Coffee one day after getting off work and ordered a Cappuccino and was extremely impressed by the question of whether I wanted it wet or dry. Not a lot of places even give that choice or they just assume everyone has coffee the robotic automated way. Excellent atmosphere and chilled environment perfect to hang out on a day off, not to mention it is within walking distance of all the great shops in downtown Boise.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? This is a quintessential spot in the heart of Boise. The perfect go-to any day, any season, and for a variety of reasons. Mine? The open-hearted atmosphere, great tunes, huge selection of mouth-watering snacks, and some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. They know their brew! The gift shop is always delightful to walk through, and I can’t help but pick up a trinket or unique book/socks/candle/you name it! to add to my gift grab bag. Pop in! You won’t be disappointed.

First experience Slow by Slow by this morning and it was perfect. I had a cappuccino…amazing! Snacked on a unique pastry’s & croissants. Atmosphere was comfortable & relaxing. Communal tables added a good vibe. Good place to hangout & have good conversation. Definitely will go to again. Highly recommend.
I stopped here by the recommendation of Dylann at Dawson Taylor to taste the second coffee shop of the day. I was excited to try this place because of the latte art in the pictures. I've never had a latte like that before. 🙃

Walked in and I loved the atmosphere right away. It was packed though and it very well deserved the amount of clientele. Ada took my order and was very nice, very talkative with a bright smile! She had the latte art specialist make my drink, a vanilla latte. It took a while for me to get my order but it was very well worth it.

I got a bag of Bright Eye roast and was excited as heck to try latte. It smelled a bit similar to Blonde but far brighter. After getting my latte, I took a sip and was astounded at the taste of the light roast, with the bit of milk and vanilla complimented the roast even further. I sadly couldn't finish it as I had two drink at Dawson Taylor so my stomach was starting to act. Nevertheless I slapped a lid and took it with me on my four hour drive home!
For a small menu it stands out! Everything was delicious, it did take them a minute to get the orders while it wasn't busy but not crazy long. Worth the wait. It doesn't really have a sign, only found it because we searched for coffee. Glad we did try it out!
Very friendly staff. A great place, conducive to lingering and chatting. The 🍵 and teas are excellent. One of the best neighborhoods and neighborhood coffee shop in Boise.

This coffee shop.
It's an experience.

Due to privacy, I wasn't able to take any photos inside. (It was a VERY busy morning. Line to the door.)

Ordered two white chocolate mochas, one with dairy free milk. So delicious! Just the right amount of sweetness.
One no bake cookie, was told it was tasty.
One molasses cookie (vegan), so perfect!

The inside is such a vibe.
There's the coffee shop with tables on one side, then there's the little shop and merchandise side. The items being sold might not be for everyone.. Fun to look at and appreciate none the less.

Late post.
When I’m on a trip the first thing I do is to look for a local coffee shop on Google Map. I found my initial cafe and I thought I had to check it out.
I ordered a decaf mocha and a butter croissant for breakfast. The mocha was very good, not too sweet or not too bitter. The barista made my mocha perfect! The croissant was very fresh as crispy outside and soft inside.
They also have unique merchandise in the store.
I had never been here before. So, I asked one of the customers what his favorite was there, when I was waiting in line, and he said, "Everything"😁
I then ordered the biscuits with gravy. Wow! I heard about how giant the biscuits were, but seeing is believing. They even had bacon bits in the middle. Great atmosphere. I also walked away with a mouthwatering lemon bar. Handicap ♿️ accessibility. I took pictures of the menu and monthly special.
Update: I had to go back and show you how big our portion sized meal was for a great price.

Great people, awesome space, "to go" food served in paper/compostable containers, and they will take your reusable mug. We got the breakfast croissant 🥐 for which they substituted the bacon for half of an avocado 🥑 without blinking. They do still wrap to go food in a plastic bag and hand plastic straws, so perhaps something on which to work for the future. Lots of outdoor seating on the side and in front.
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! This is a great place for kids and parents alike. We’re not from Boise, but we’ll be coming back next time we’re in town! This place is very clean and very well kept. All the staff were super friendly and helpful.

This is a place where you can sit and relax while your kids play. There’s cafe style seating with a snack bar with drinks, snacks and some food items. There’s also coffee bar. You can easily see your kids play from where you sit.

Our boys aged 9, 6, and 2 loved it and had a blast! There’s an area for kids 2 and under, but our 2yr old was able to easily explore the whole place with the help of his older brothers.

I’m glad we found this place and feel it’s a rare find. The prices for admission as well as snacks/drinks are all very affordable! We’ll be recommending this place to everyone we can. Love it!!!
I took out 2 stars for the no-mask indoor space.

They serve very good coffee. The staff is wonderful and friendly. But the indoor space is tight, and a whole crowd does not wear mask. Outdoor space is limited.
Met a friend here for breakfast. It was a little hard to find cause there’s not a big sign out front. The space inside is very open and spacious. It was nice and quiet, the staff was friendly but some of the outlets didn’t work so had to change tables. But it’s a great location downtown in kind of an older building. The coffee was good.
We had a chance to visit here twice recently while staying in the area. It's a cute little neighborhood place with decent breakfast and smooth coffee with friendly services. Don't know where they got the baked goods but the blueberry muffins and scones are out of this world delicious. So moist with plenty of blueberries. Yum.
