Great little, locally owned spot right on Mcloughlin that is one of the few bars open beyond 11pm. They usually have some form of entertainment going on throughout the week like; live music, trivia or karaoke. Very friendly staff that work efficiently to get you taken care of. Food is above average pub fare, draft beer selection is varied enough most anyone can find a fermented libation to sip on and the cocktails have a kick! Don't let the bikes parked outside keep you from trying this spot, everyone there is chill.

Stopped in for lunch today. Great little dive bar! Food was hot, and tasty. Drinks came fast. Prices are great! Will definitely be back!

I have been coming here for years off and on. Sure, it's a dive bar, sure there are homeless people hanging outside sometimes but overall it's a good place. The drinks are decent and the food is what you call ' hit the spot '.

It gets 5 star because this place has been around. This place is a local favorite hangout for wine on a weekday at 10:00 am. Breakfast is decent. Drinks are bar style. It's nothing more than a bar with decent breakfast!

The waitress that took our order was so nice! She fixed us a pair of sandwiches even when the kitchen was already closed! Would highly recommend if you are passing by and want a late snack!

In walkable area to motel. Very nice staff. Different menu but super good. I had the in house veggie burger and trinity fries. Super good! 4 of us ate for $75, so price point was good. They have rotating taps which was nice. We sat on the back patio area and they had swings for chairs!! Food came quickly. Neat overall experience

Great little place so far, Love that they put the ice water in a glass. It’s super cold and delicious. The coffee is yummy. The bartender Melissa is amazing such a sweetheart. Definitely coming back. Highly recommend the place! My breakfast was delicious.

If you want classic dishes like burgers, fish and chips, patty melts, and onion rings, you can't go wrong here. Everything we've tried we'd order again.

This is my kinda place. Good people, proper drinks, and solid burgers. You encounter the gambit of portland here, but I've met some folks who have become great friends at this weird Portland hole in the wall.

Little dive bar with great food. We ordered at the bar. When our food was ready it was brought to us, just fyi, this isn’t the place where a server will be coming back to check on you. Not a problem for us, we had everything we needed. We got the bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and the Juliette sandwich(hot) both of which were phenomenal.

A local dive bar in Slabtown with some historic roots. Known for their burgers! I ordered a Paloma and their famous 1/4 pound burger with fries. It fills the need for a solid neighborhood burger with extra thick and sizeable fries. I paid about $20 for both drink and food and it was perfect. Plenty of outdoor seating along 23rd but also some seating that is more quiet along the side road. Didn’t peruse much inside but would definitely come back to get my fix for a solid dive bar burger

I love this hole in the wall brunch spot! They have some of the best options for mimosas (and $3 refills!) and the Bloody Mary is so unique! The food here always hits, I love getting the biscuits and mushroom gravy! My boyfriend recently got the green chorizo scramble and fell in love. We will be back 😍 if you want some good comfort food or tasty drinks, I recommend this place! 😊

The Virginia Cafe is what you would expect from a dive bar. The people are a mix of some rough customers to business people. The food is decent, nothing exceptional but not bad. You can totally have a meal and feel satisfied but not have a dish that you would go out of your way to get. The staff, they're not rude, but they're definitely not going to yell Norm if you walk through the door. They do their job, and nothing more. Without said, I frequently stopped but usually stay less than a half hour. It's really not one of those places that you want to stay in linger. It's more about just grabbing a drink and some food and moving on. If I have visitors coming from town I do not say that this is the place to go, but it is a place that I feel comfortable using as a layover

Did not love the server being on his own in a busy environment so much so that he dropped the food off but in the process spilled sauce all over both of us. Aaaaand didn’t apologize. Didn’t bring us napkins or silverware until we asked. And never checked on us, but eventually new guy came over to see how were doing. Shoutout to that guy that asked if everything was “wonderful, delicious, and amazing”. Your positivity was a saving grace.

TL;DR - Would definitely recommend. Dimly lit, sort of a bar vibe inside, but interestingly decorated with unique furniture and a beautiful outdoor patio in the back. If it's a nice day, I recommend dining out there!
There are many customizable menu options. Enough for the vegans, vegetarians, omnivores and carnivores! The menu items are all savory without being heavy, and the omelette come with delicious seasoned house potatoes.
The portions are adequate, not super large. I ordered a side to go along with my main menu option (main - tofu scramble, side: sauteed veggies, in oil, not butter) and it was perfect in presentation and quality.
It was not busy around 1330 hrs on a Thursday, and we were immediately greeted and showed to our seats. Our waitress, Angel was friendly, knowledgeable and kept our drinks filled.

The guy at the bar was super chill and friendly. Got good vibes from him. Keep up the good work guy! Even checked if I was "ok" after just ordering fries and water. Truth is, I was just craving a walk and some late night fries after a couple beers elsewhere. 🤣

Its a very comfortable and laid back bar. Food and service take long , but it's quite tasty. Relax, enjoy your drink, play video poker, go outside for a smoke and it'll be ready.

Nice and dark. Like the coffee they served me..😋 VP room is a hallway and consists of 4 machines. Bathrooms are one step away from needing a needle disposal box. Friendly and efficient staff.

Portland has a lot of bars but this one definitely my favorite! The atmosphere and vibe is on point. Food and drinks are excellent. This is the kind of place you’d wanna hit up at least once a week

Friend of mine and I went to there for breakfast this morning through the poker machines are great they paid for both our meals the food is awesome.

The atmosphere was wonderful, loved sitting on the swings by the windows, they also have an outdoor heated patio with swings as well. The restroom has backboard & you can draw on it. The food was decent, I had the Alaskan salmon: it was a bit dry & could use some spices/salt. We also had the elk burger, which was not impressive, but my daughter did loved the bacon burger. Overall it's a nice little place, the food was average but the vibes were unique, the waiters were sweet but when I asked for a certain sauce I was brought a wrong one.

It's a good old down-home bar/restaurant. Friendly staff and all 5 of us loved the food!

Great sports bar!!
It is set up so you order at the bar. Food is then delivered to your table. Very organized and quick, perfect before U of P events. Pub food options with a bit of flair, homemade condiments. Vegi options and gluten-free are available. Daily food and drink specials are always worth trying🤗. Service is great, even put womens sports on the screens, when requested. Parking is a bit challenging, but usually can find an on the street spot. Has become our go-to before games.

Your experience will depend on if you see it as bar with amazing food or a restaurant with an amazing bar.

If you see the place as just a bar, you'll find a great bar and quickly see they punch far above their weight with the food available. They always execute fish well! And try the Brussels sprouts.

It's a better bar than restaurant, but their food is great as well. It's not quite up to high end Portland restaurant standards but it gets 90% of the way there with excellent house cocktails and a stacked liquor and tap list and great events. House cocktails are all executed well.

It's equally a good spot for a neighborhood watering hole and fancy enough for a date night. I've been several times and never had a bad experience. Also seriously, they can get fairly adventurous with the food. The service is always 10/10, the service staff seems to be genuinely happy to be there.

Suggestion for Bethany Public House: Chicken Tortilla Soup is NOT Green, NOT pureed, NOT void of tomatoes and chicken, with a heaping handful of shredded tortilla chips on top. Better title for Soup of the Day "Mystery Creamy Green Soup" (made with whatever ingredients we had in our kitchen after the ice/snow storm).

Great neighborhood bar that has been stepping up their game recently. Good food at good prices. Feels like Old Portland. The customers were friendly, and it was great to see the broad age range and diversity. The main dining area was closed, but the lounge is large, with plenty of booths and tables to have quiet conversations. Fun local history on the walls too!

Came here on 1/10 with some coworkers to try an awesome special which changes each night. Tonight was a fried chicken sandwich, with lettuce, cheese, mayo tomato and your choice of potato salad, fries, tator tots or soup.

They have a lot of choices of chili, sandwiches and side items for a variety of people. I had a delicious sandwich full of flavor and moisture with a solid crunch. The potato salad was absolutely delicious with the paprika. I also tried some of the fries as a side dish and it was absolutely crispy and salted nicely. Paired with their house mustard.

The atmosphere is very mellow and chill. 80s music blasts in the background and provides a whole vinlbe which makes you want to relax and chill. The wait staff was super friendly and quick to serve you as well. I would highly suggest trying this place and giving the food a glance. I personally do not drink alcohol, but I absolutely will hunt for great food spots.

On more than one occasion the bartenders of this business have decided to steal from me. My tip has been charged more than what I tipped when I signed. Each time I have filed a dispute with my bank and the issue resolved. Do not use a card here and pay only in cash. Take pictures of your tip if you use a card. You all can eff off next time you decide to steal. Some businesses burn to the ground for less egregious behavior. Greedy bartenders should find a different industry. If I had my way, you wouldn’t serve another drink for the rest of your miserable lives. 0/5 stars.

Atmosphere was cozy and dark, I find this to be romantic and that is actually hard to find. I appreciate the speakeasy feel. Service and staff was attentive and friendly. Late night snack of Truffle fries was the perfect size for two to share. The cocktail I ordered was not something I enjoyed, not because it was bad, I went outside my comfort zone with a 50% success rate, next time! I would recommend others to try the cocktais. Loved this place. My lady and I had a great time. Went on a Wednesday night so it wasn't packed. My favorite part was the bartenders. They were both super cool, friendly, and took great care of us. The only negative I could possibly say is that they need a cleaning service. Bathrooms were both disgusting. Lots of spider webs all over and the mirror behind the bar had a layer of dried lime juice about an inch thick. If they did a big clean up I would certainly go to 5 stars. Despite my last comments I would still highly recommend! (Unless someone in your party is in a wheelchair. Pretty sure no handicap entrance.)

Nice stylish bar. Unfortunately there was no free pool table, but we didn't mind at all, it wasn't their fault. At least it shows that people are interested in this bar.

Classic dive bar vibes but with a great brunch option for a Sunday! They've got all day breakfast I think and have a bustling Sunday afternoon crowd! Staff was very attentive with all I could drink coffee! Would recommend as a neighborhood local spot!

My husband grew up on Munjoy Hill. We were driving around on a rainy Saturday and decided to pop in here. The bartender was super friendly and everyone in the bar treated us like family. Great little neighborhood spot!

Super cool spot. Cool, spooky atmosphere and friendly service. My husband enjoyed his Old Fashions (with smoked orange peel!) and I appreciated that they offered an NA cocktail list, some with NA spirits. One fun feature: they have old, food pedal-controlled sinks in the bathrooms!

Just went in to play their video lottery. But the busy place has lots of seating in like three seating areas, 21 and an older dining area, and a family dining area. Serve well drinks and domestic and micro brew on tap

Been here many times over many years, it's always a good time, good food and service. Now that I'm back in the area I'll have to visit more often.

Food here has always been pretty good. Tonight had the cheese stack to start which was a grilled cheese sliced in two and then just stacked...it was tasty. Then the BLT and fries was also good.. i like their fries because they are skin on. The only thing that was a little odd was my side caesar was very "peppery", had an overwhelming taste of pepper, it wasn't bad just a bit much.
Good beer selection. The staff was very friendly and attentive, very good service. I'll go back for sure.

Megan made me feel at home. The patrons were friendly and I don't know if they serve food normally (it was near closing time) but the chicken and mac n cheese were an awesome way to finish the evening! If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'm definitely stopping in.

I was walking by this place on my way to get dinner when I noticed they were hosting trivia later that evening. Came in for a beer and ended up staying several hours for trivia and conversation. Food wasn't anything that stood out, but since this place kept me there past my planned dinner down the road it was good enough to satisfy my hunger. Place was full and got even fuller when trivia started. Was a fun night and had some great conversations with the locals. I was passing through town, and I always love it when the locals freely are curious to strike up a conversation.

Quench is an awesome bartender! We came in during the 3-5 pm happy hour and got a Lobster roll on Hawaiian bread. Yasss!! And their cocktails are $8 during happy hour. Highly recommend! It's about 2 blocks from the cruise ship area but where locals go! You should definitely check it out, and drinks are very tasty!!

The Twilight Room is a wonderful little dive bar with a great selection of many beers on tap and a kitchen that loves cooking up a special of their choice.

If you are looking for a bright, well lit, mainstream brew pub this is not the place for you. If you want a neighborhood bar with a wonderful history that is just a bit worn with a lot of flavor then the Twilight Room is where you want to be.

Delicious burgers and fries! The ambience is rustic and cozy. My husband and I loved our meal and 70’s music very relaxed and chill vibe.

It's everything you ever wanted from a speakeasy. You could walk by and not even know it's there. You walk down some dark stairs of a brick tunnel to the basement that looks like it's been around a couple hundred years. Bottles line the walls. Friendly bartenders with a straightforward menu. You want to tell all your friends about this great place you found, but decide to keep this one to yourself.

Constantly reinventing itself, Bramhall offers ambiance, creative drinks and solid eats. Perfect for a date spot, an outing with friends or colleagues or just a night out for a drink. Summer time offers outdoor seating in the back and they’re always figuring out the next thing! Check them out. By the way, the Buffalo wings are a hidden gem! Best in the state, in a spot you’d never expect!

Great customer service throughout the visit. The braised Beef brisket is filling with good seasoned hash-browns (potato “thumb sized”cubed). You can order smaller portions like a salmon fillet and they have an amazing assortment of mimosas. I’ll have to come back before the summer is over to give an update eventually.

Just had absolutely THE BEST TIME at East Ender. So unexpected and so pleasantly surprised by the food, the atmosphere, and the AMAZING karaoke! The hubby and I were in heaven with every bit of the sunchoke dip, and the fried potatoes app. Then we went a little crazy and tried the deep fried deviled eggs?! Incredible. What a creative chef!!

We were shocked when they said they do karaoke every night in this tiny place, but it was the most fun I’ve ever had at karaoke!

Absolutely love this little gem! We are visiting from out of town with our kids and needed an early dinner. We were greeted with a warm welcome and an amazing meal. Our server was also tending bar - she made the best (thankfully non mix) margarita! We enjoyed oysters, the sun choke dip with the best bread ever, lobster rolls, a burger, popcorn chicken, and so many potatoes. Everything was quality, served fresh, hot, and delicious. We would not hesitate to recommend to anyone☺️

Excellent fried fish and potatoes or fish and chips. The potatoes were nice and crispy (I think they said they were triple fried) with great seasoning. Good dive bar type atmosphere with plenty of people to watch, both in the bar and on the street.

We visited on a Sunday night and easily found two seats at the bar. The bartender was very attentive and friendly. He knew their beer options well and was great at making recommendations for everyone just by asking what style of beer they liked. The mixed drinks are great too; I requested a strawberry margarita and it was perfect.
We ordered the burger, the mesquite chicken sandwich, and split the Cajun fries. It was all very good! Two drinks a piece and food came out under $60, which is very affordable in a city.

Came here on a Thursday early evening for drinks and a snack. Sat upstairs, great vibe and fun atmosphere. The drink menu has some great original cocktails as well as coverage of the classics, and a short but solid beer list. The bartender was friendly, wicked fast, and frequently checked in on our group of 4. We had the sunchoke dip, which was excellent - just wish they still had the crab ball from last year, another stellar dish. We will definitely be back for cocktails and a proper meal!

Great service, food, and atmosphere! We had the popcorn shrimp and buffalo wings both dairy free, both delicious. Tried the specialty cocktails with Wild Roots vodka and they were both so refreshing. We came on a Saturday when they had live music and it was great! Made a great summer night :-)

Dive bar at its finest......first of all a must try are the lobster tacos! You will fall in love with the flavors 😋. They are known for their delicious burgers and truffle fries. You may think they just serve beer and simple cocktails, but they can make pretty much anything! I put it to the test by requesting a whiskey sour with egg whites, and it was amazing! If you're visiting the Old Port in Portland, ME, this is a place to visit!

Great service and a cool bar but don't eat here. $25 for lobster roll that tasted like Walmart imitation crab meat. Disappointed...

I've been here a few times and everyone is really nice. The bartender Steve is a complete gentleman and is very nice as well.

Really nice place right under our hotel. Good food and nice service. The burger was good but the Parmesan truffle fries were TOP. Not expensive at all for such a good place.
Plus the grilles looked really clean and the cook was always with gloves!

Very cool place! Spent a week in Portland and this ended up being a favorite. Returned multiple times during my stay. Megan, Tiana, & Tanya were great! All of the regular patrons are very friendly and will strike up a conversation with anyone. Also met the owner! Really great spot with great drinks at the best price. A real gem.

Come here for late night snacks and food!! Staff here was amazing! The burger was delicious. The amount of fries they give you are very generous! The aesthetics was very interesting. There is seating around the bar and you can also choose to sit at a table if you want to. Beer is deliciously good.

Came here after not getting fulfilled at another place and the food here was 5/5! Very fulfilling. Well cooked and yes, fresh off the oven fresh. Would highly recommend coming here if you need late night snacks and a drink.

This place has been around for a while now. We stopped by for just a quick drink or two to help with our thirst. We were pretty much the only ones here and sat at the bar. The place is smaller and has video lottery. The bartender was nice and quick with our drinks. Overall, it was a good experience.

OK. That was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. We also had the clam strip. It was also excellent.

It's a bar, so don't expect a high-end atmosphere. The service makes up for that.

I hate to give this a 1 star experience because it has so much going for it, but that’s truthfully what it was. We just moved 1 block from this establishment, so my wife and I were really excited to have a spot so close to us. However, the experience was terrible. The bartender was very mean to it group. First, she told us she wouldn’t serve us because she already did last call….we showed up 50 minutes before close and it was packed. Then we got like 4 bud lights, in bottles. We tipped her $3, and she lost her mind on us. Considering it was my wife’s surprise birthday party that I threw, I was not happy that the bartender was telling us not to come back because we don’t tip. First, opening a couple of bottles of beer requires almost no skill, so no I will not tip $10+ which is what she wanted. Second, you don’t tell the patron, especially one whose birthday it is, that they’re cheap and need to leave. I’ve literally never experienced this before in my life, and I bartended for years in Portland. Totally bizarre and disappointing. Do not go here.

Stopped in for their happy hour for the oysters when waiting for a table next door and they did not disappoint! Wife loved them. We also had the deep fried deviled eggs and split a lobster roll. All great!

This place reminded me of my hometown, a cool little hole in the wall that opens up into a very cozy bar with friendly service and locals who are happy to strike up conversation with you. We enjoyed meeting the owner and just chatting. The drinks here are strong and well poured. In the evening, they have music on the back deck.

I’m blown away by their food… SUPER impressed by the level of quality, quantity, and fast delivery of all food options. Burger is the best I’ve ever had at a bar, coast to coast. Lobster roll also had a generous amount of meat! All very tasty 👏 thank you!

A hidden gem on Congress. It's a basement lounge/bar but has some amazing cocktails and yummy bar eats. They also have a full meal menu during the dinner hours. Service is swift and friendly. The space is definitely darker and basement like but has lots of charm and plenty of elbow room. You also won't find it to be too loud or obnoxiously chaotic. I love this place so much.

Came for drinks first time and returned for apps and drinks second time. Same great bartender upstairs and super friendly as usual. Had the fried deviled eggs which being a southern is different. They had a good taste and not what I expected. Still tasted like a deviled egg and not to overly fried. Also had the nachos which omg loved them. Not soggy not overdone and just perfect

Everything here looked amazing. The halibut fish and chips with a wedge salad were delicious. They have a really good happy hour weekdays till five. Would be a great place and deal for lunch!

Great food and good prices during happy hour. We enjoyed both the beer and each of the appetizer items that we received. The fish-and-chips are a really nice smaller meal.

Great neighborhood bar. I stopped in to the Liar or a lazy Saturday and it did not disappoint. They had sports on the TVs. Friendly bartender, and a nice relaxed environment. I had a Bloody Mary, and it was made well and tasted good. I didn’t try the food, but food I saw come out looked good. They have lotto too. They are following all of the current COVID-19 guidelines as well which I appreciate. Definitely stop by The Liar if you’re in the area.

It's actually a nice place for dinner/happy hour. The food is typical pub food, but if you need a quick stop in the Bethany neighborhood, then you should definitely go. Surprisingly the green beans were pretty good!

Great place for dinner, lunch or drinks. They have a great selection of local craft beers on draft and a full bar. Food is very good. Had the Fish and chips today. They were excellent. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Good Pub with laid back, open areas and multiple TV's for Sports. Fair selection of Brews mixed with good flavorful foods. I highly recommend their Happy Hour and Appetizers...especially the Brussels Sprouts and Calamari. Pricing isn't bad for the area.
