We discovered this little gem by accident. A lovely little real ale outlet for Bollington Brewery serving guest ales.
It has an intimate welcoming atmosphere, good food and a huge plus for me. No TV!

Just visited with all the family (group of 13) for my mothers birthday. As always the service was great, friendly, happy, polite staff. Food came in good time of ordering especially considering the size of our group. Everybody food was great although the gammon was abit to salty for my liking but all depends how you like your gammon. Puddings were perfect as always. The Vanilla cheesecake was 👌

Brilliant value for money and will definitely be back again soon.

I enjoyed a delightful lunch here today complimented by a good glass of nicely chilled wine. I chose the steak and ale pie which was delicious as were the chips although the veg was slightly over done for my taste. The service was friendly and fairly prompt considering how busy they were, including our bus trip. I also indulged in a Bakewell tart with ice cream which didn't deliver the standard of the pie, sorry. I followed my meal with a pot of very good tea served in a pot which was sufficient for 2 cups.
The bar was tastefully decorated for Christmas and the atmosphere was very festive.
The toilets were very clean as were the premises. A very pleasant visit, thank you.

We were in early for a kids birthday party as they have a cinema room upstairs, so we waited in the bar downstairs, they have done a great job of updating the pub, we didn't have any food other than a bag of crisps, but they do have a good selection of quality ales, wines, and cider's definitely a good place to visit

Really, really disappointed with both the food and the response to us not being happy with what we were served.

We had heard great comments about the Sunday lunches here so gave it a go.

Lovely pub, spacious and clean. Ordered our food which was with us within minutes. I ordered beef sirloin (£20) and my partner had Roast pork (£17).

My beef was well cooked and tender. However, the vegetables were the main meal quantity wise and so heavily salted as to be like drinking sea water. I left most of the food.

The pork, again was tasty, but such tiny, fatty slices x 2 that the main meal was vegetables.

We did give feedback at the table that we weren't happy with the meal to be told:
The potatoes and yorkshires are batch cooked (obviously🙄) and noone had complained today and maybe it was a problem with my palate! Even though I had heard people at the next table say that they didn't enjoy their food, and would not be returning.

As regards the pork: apparently we should know that small joints result in small slices and two slices is standard
🙄 Then small joints and small slices should imply small prices?

The bill of £37 despite our quiet complaint was not reduced, there was no apology, and a service charge was added too.

After discussion the service charge was deducted.

We will not be back.

Horrific place! Will never go back!

We called in for a drink last Saturday, thr cost for 2 x gins was £17, which for a pub in macc I think is outrageous, there were kids running round , kids screaming, I thought the pub looked scruffy couldn't wait to drink up and leave. I have lived in broken cross for nearly 20 years and have regularly drank the pack, but that will be the last!

The staff really make this hotel. Every star I’ve awarded was for them and their helpfulness.

My issue is I believe some of the rooms to be grossly overpriced. I was visiting for a wedding and paid the same amount/more (£180) for my small double room as some of my friends paid for their large and vastly more luxurious rooms. I didn’t even have coffee making facilities. When I checked out, I wasn’t asked how my stay was, otherwise I would’ve brought this up.

Overall, the hotel/pub are cosy with lovely traditional features in some of the rooms. The breakfast was good, though my poached eggs were quite overdone.

The staff really are top notch and were so helpful taking my luggage up to my room when I checked in as I didn’t have time.

A great pub, really unique and finished to a high standard. Fab variety of seating, booths, high backed chairs and comfortable chairs, so every table is a treat. A good sized beer garden too, with plenty of seating - if the weather stays dry enough to enjoy. I appreciated the choice of beers and there was a good selection of rose wines to choose from - a much better selection than the usual Zinfandel or Pinot Blush options. The whole pub was dog friendly, which is great for us, dog biscuits on the bar and a doggy menu too.
We heard several people checking in during our visit, and were interested that all rooms are dog friendly too. Hopefully we'll have chance to stay over next time.
Gorgeous old English building, with rooms above the pub. Great atmosphere in the pub and the rooms were clean with plenty of refreshments, tea/coffee making facilities. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We travelled with 2 kids (aged 1 and 4). The room was spacious even with the toddler bed and cot. Breakfast was delicious but a little on the late side for us at 8:30am (as our kids were up at 6:15am). All in all a great place to stay. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful place the Windmill is. We were greeted with smiles on arrival, the selection of food and drink was very impressive and staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Six of us enjoyed a great evening of well kept and maintained drinks, beers that tasted like nectar and food that was cooked perfectly all backed by exceptional service.
We'd go every week if we didn't live over 100 miles away, if you are nearby treat yourself and go there!

Went for lunch with the family. Good choice of food for a chain pub. The specials were very good. Korean chicken was a delicious platter of kimchi, fried chicken, roast chicken and salad with rice. The pulled lamb flatbread was quite delicious too. Service was extremely polite, efficient and helpful. Many thanks to Holly for being a wonderful hostess. All the dishes were freshly prepared and served quite quickly too. The best of all was a very reasonable bill at the end, excellent value for money too
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here it feels cosy, welcoming and friendly. The Private car park at the rear leads to the beer garden and rear entrance. The bar is spacious and offers all sorts of beverage. Waiting staff make you feel welcome and take time to run through whatever specials they have. The food menu has a good selection available but it does need far more veggie stuff. Food is of a good quality and served piping hot. Bedrooms are above the main bar but still remain quiet and cosy. Beds are super comfy too.

We came here for some ale and dinner and were not disappointed. The pie was delicious and the ale was good. We would have liked some cheddar in the mac and cheese and some salt and pepper, that‘s the 1 missing star. Service is receiving 4 stars because we waited quite long for our food, it took about 45 minutes but the staff was very kind and attentive.
The dog friendliness is a huge plus!

Good choice of beers and the service was efficient. Food was beautifully cooked, but I ordered the sea bass with prawns, which was only served with 3 chunks of courgette, one and 1/2 new potatoes and 4 cherry tomatoes. Now, I don't have a particularly large appetite ,but even I thought the vegetable accompaniment was severely lacking. My poor partner was really disappointed.

Lovely pub with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Good quality food but small portions. Had crab to start and it was 3 tiny pieces of toast with crab on (£8-95). Main course of sea bass and prawns (£19-95) and it was very good quality but hardly any veg. 3 halves of small new potatoes and a couple of tiny slices of courgette. Didn't bother with a pudding as we thought they would be similarly small so just had a coffee. Had supper when we got home as we were still hungry.

We visited the Blacksmiths Arms for the first time today (June 2023)…. What a lovely experience. The bar and restaurant are very comfortably furnished in old English county style with plenty of space around the tables so things arn’t too cramped. The food was very well presented and cooked which is exactly what we expect from this Chef and Brewer brand. Holly & Jordan looked after us really well from start to finish. There’s a very large car park attached to the premises which together with a nice beer garden to the rear make for a relaxing experience. We will definitely return.

Doesn’t even deserve one star.. booked for 11 people turn up to be told they don’t accommodate 11 people with the worst attitude I have ever heard - how come the booking system takes 11? But man didn’t even try to contact us or apologise - I personally work in retail in customer service and I am gobsmacked the way I’ve just been spoken to by the man working alone 2pm on Sunday. I’m sure you’ll know who it is. We’ve took our service else where. That’s a good £300 loss.

A lovely pub with a good selection of hand pumps ales, wines, quality spirits, the owner has been spending money on the bar area (see pic) and re upholstering the seating, theres a real open fire and a reasonable amount of people coming and going, young and old, the toilets have been renovated a few years ago and still look good and they are clean (unlike many other pubs) there a pool table and darts board, it is a rarity for Macclesfield which seems to be losing pubs and gaining bars with shouty people and eye watering prices, yet the Tavern is reasonably priced.

Free Carpark to the rear off the building rough guess 12 Parking spaces if people parked sensibly
Carpark rough gravel so not really Disabled Friendly if in a Wheelchair & suffer with a bad back or on Crutches

Front Door Entrance is Wheelchair & Disabled Friendly

Outside Seating Area to the Rear / Front & Side of the Building with Sun Unbrellas available & also Ash Trays available on Outside Tables

Clean Premises
Clean Restrooms
Friendly Polite Staff

Menu not as good as it use to be - Menu sheet would of been better if laminated as it be easy to wipe clean with less germs on if you know what I mean

Fruit Machine's Indoors
1 Pool Table indoors & quite alot of TV's on the premises for watching the sport
Good choice of Beer's & Spirits available
Small Tap Room to the back of the building

I ate the Bacon Cheese Burger with Salad & Fries it was a good size portion ( my burger was abit dry on the outside edges otherwise I would of gave it a 5 * ) my son ate the Chicken Burger with Fries

Cuterly & Table Wear Clean

Method of Payment Cash or Card

Children Eat for a £1 when eating with a paying adult

I liked the tables as these tables didn't feel sticky at all not like some places that varnish there tables indoors & it leaves them feeling taggy & sticky if touched

Would definitely eat here again but I would try there Curry dish next time

The decor inside is beautiful and well set out. Our meal was really lovely and the young lady that served us was very helpful with her recommendations on the menu. I had the chicken curry on kebab which was very tasty and one she said is very popular.
Only downside I found was the steps up from the car park. There wasn't a rail to use as a support as I have poor mobility and struggle with steps at times. There was probably disabled access somewhere but I didn't see any signs.
I'd definitely go again however

Pleasant small courtyard that now has a white gazebo covering half of the outside space. Staff are friendly and other patrons were welcoming. A fab little pub in the centre of the village. There's plenty of parking out the back, with a large seating area overlooking the cricket club. You have to walk a few yards down the main street to get to the pub, but it's no real hassle. If you're lucky, like we were, there may be a cricket match on. The staff were fantastic - so friendly and nothing too much trouble. A real credit to the place. We ordered a pie and (from the specials) a lasagne. Both were excellent. I wish I could give this place 4.5 stars rather than just 4. We will definitely return.

Lights dimmed at 7.20pm Would of liked upto date music. I came in a few days after to notice they had relief management by the atmosphere it was a massive improvement upto date music all the locals seemed to be having a laugh. Decent local pub. Pool table. Darts board. Sports channel. There is a back room for food, so good for booking birthdays etc. Food is fine don’t expect anything exquisite but definitely good value. Not a bad choice of beers, be nice to have more Belgium beers.. There is an outside space for the summer months. Free parking is usually no problem at Thornton square or the side car park available by the side pub.

Really lovely country style pub. Warming real fire. Dog friendly. Food - I had the Sunday roast with beef, which was very nice. Yorkshire puds and gravy were delicious, beef not the best quality but for the price it’s definitely not complaint worthy. Burger was good. Drinks - I started with the 3mini beers and thought they were a little flat so then had the Czech lager which i didn’t think much of, so stuck with the safer Heineken.

What a Great pub. Good food, good ales and very welcoming. A popular place, for good reason. 👍🏻

Many good local ales on tap and a small but tasty menu. Very nice food with healthy options. Really enjoyed the homemade scotch egg and pork pie. Service was friendly, and dogs are welcome too :)
Will have to visit again for the free cinema upstairs!
