Reviews

I’ve gone to this library recently just to have some quiet from home and manage my work. I have no bad reviews you walk in. They say hello you walk out they say have a great day. They interact with the patron give it a thumbs up all the way to the highest level, God bless.
Absolutely wonderful local library, Staff is kind resourceful and helpful. Computers available. There is a Children’s reading area. Wheelchair accessible
Wonderful happy place. The librarians are nice and helpful. A real Woodlawn gem.
Great library! Staff is so kind and goes all the way to help you. I give it a A+

There are around 5 floors each are designated for different things like the first floor is for Teens only and the others above are places like the terrace computer room or an adult only floor. There are many books about different topics ranging from manga to study books. There are many different sorts of programs that they do almost daily. If you are looking for a Library that has a sense of community this one is a great choice!

Such a beautiful Library! Love the seating area outside. Friendly staff. Will visit again.
The staff is welcoming and most helpful.
This Library used to be a Con Edison job that my mother worked at for many years! And this Library helps me when I get new video games from Gamestop! And I need to get some knowledge to try and bring The Shredder; Also Known As: Oroku Saki and his evil minions to justice for killing Hamato Yoshi; Better Known As Master Splinter!
The staff are nice they help you logging into the computer and help you find what you’re looking for and it’s creative and clean so I recommend going to the library.

Quiet, barely anyone in the library. They’re two sweet women who helped me apply for a library card and helped me with the process of printing something.
It was my first time visiting and it was surprisingly wonderful- very quiet, a decent selection of books, wide spaces, a terrace, and friendly staff. So much better than the somewhat rude and oppressive midtown staff and security.

Excellent customer service, quiet and elegant ambiance, safe and without any jokers or crazies like in other NYPL branches. The book collection is moderate but always something interesting. The computer work station section is useful and for those who really come to do work. There is a quiet meditative garden by the entrance. This is place and area are unlike anything in the Bronx or much of NYC.
It's no longer what it used to be. Years ago it was a real resource center which they try to maintain but due to the latest budget issues and what not it's a place to do research and get your work done and leave without the loud noise or panhandlers annoying you either
I had an awesome experience in this library. The staffs were friendly and willing to assist in any possible way. I will definitely visit again when I am around the area.
This Woodlawn library is staffed with lazy and questionably hired gossipers. There is NO confidentiality with regards to your loan information.
The front desk workers pretend there is something wrong with YOU because they are too lazy or overmedicated to listen to your voice correctly the first time you speak to them.
Children's storytime and children's department "supervisor" is operated by a heavily prescription medicated and obese woman who lives in a temporary boarding house on Woodlawn Avenue with shrines worshipping Menudo.
The surrounding neighborhood is entirely Cathlo-Caucasian and not welcoming to anyone from "the outside".
The copy machine is very complicated??
They are really helpful and welcoming.
Wish they accepted cc, dc instead of cash ONLY.

I didnt like that althgh it was empty, I wasnt allowed more time than 45mins on the computer.

Otherwise..staff was nice
Love the separate floors at this library. Grateful layout and use of space for younger patrons. Only wish there were longer hours
Library has a nice layout. Only one bathroom and was out of order. Not the best quiet place to study as noise coming from entrance/reception echos
Amazing staff and a very welcoming, comforting place to be in.

This library is very nice , from the cleanliness to the staff and beautiful interior . I absolutely love it. I’ve watched this library grow and change over time & it’s always been 4-5 stars , the librarians are very helpful and some of them have been there for years. Yes they may not have a huge selection of books , but they have do have some games and as I said the librarian will help you order the book and or find help find another location who does have it .
Not much to say, it's clean, there's plenty of computers, people were polite and helpful.
The man who is the security guard there is way too aggressive about closing times and if you dare to answer your cell phone, no matter how softly you speak or even if you are packing up to leave after your phone rings. He needs to take a chill pill and/or get a life. He announces closing time from 30 minutes out way too often and he is way too loud.
A cute neighborhood library, small but cozy. Not a huge book selection, but plenty of seating.

This library is clean great staff and they are very helpful with any questions you may have. They also have a variety of classes and activities there for different ages groups. I will be returning there
The staff was very helpful in my time of need,I offered a small thank you but they said it was not necessary,it was part of their job.
I didn’t even know this was here, until my normal library (Countee Cullen in Harlem) was closed for renovations. Super cool and nestled away! Staff was super helpful, only 4 stars just because their selection wasn’t as expansive as the ones in Manhattan. (May be due to this being a smaller branch).

Nonetheless we’ll definitely be back!
Best customer service for dummies beginners computer wise. Best customer service getting to know their cliental for recommendations on books. Keep u updated and informed
The third staff with a cold was the most helpful. Alma, the lady in charge messed up the setting of the copier when she instructed me to touch finished. Drug/medical needle needs to be disposed of properly. It cannot just be through into the trash bin. The staff with dirt in the finger nails is unprofessional. The dirt can be a health hazard, at the very least poor hygiene.

I visit this library from time to time. Staff, including security, have always been helpful. Community forgets that libraries are for public use and people should act accordingly. As patrons, we should enter respectfully and educated. Services that are provided free to community should not be taken advantage of. Kindness and respect will get you a long way!!!

I love this library, I give it a four star due to limited outlets. They don’t have the ability to scan documents and the security can tend to discriminate when applying certain rules

My 3 and a half year old daughter loves to go to Edenwald Library she likes Mrs. Jackson the Librarian who likes storytime, Arts and Crafts and Computer. I walk with her everyday after school 3pm-5:30pm she's too young to do homework but I get to teach her different activities like ABC Mouse, Disney Junior and picture coloring.. This is my second home and I like how the staff takes care of her and the kids. Thank you for letting us be apart of your family!📚🍎🥰🙏

I like this library. It's pretty good. One suggestion tho. Can you put some Dragon Ball Z books on the shelves? I didn't see none and I'm really into Dragon Ball Z.
I love going to this library. Only thing I didn't like AT ALL is that the security guard hovered over me and my kids like we're criminals. Immediately left after that
I have been to many libraries and by far this is my fav one. My kids and I love it and they make us feel welcomed and there are many vary of genre; especially in the Children's section. I do miss the previous Children's Library Manage;the current one is nice.
A nice quiet clean library. There was tons of space in the community room. I hope they can have manipulatives for the toddlers. Good book choices.

The staff are so professional and helpful lol even when they are sick of you and your toddler. They go above and beyond to help with research and things that are not in their job requirement. For instance, this tax year they helped so many illiterate people who were filling taxes at the library 🙄 I would of charged that's a whole tax preparer. I love them so much my kids were raised in this library.
Clean and quiet with helpful staff. Wish they had more charging stations, Would have given 5 stars
This library is awesome. The staff goes out of there way to help you in anyway they can above and beyond. I wish all library's were like this one.

Small to medium library .. Friendly staff.. Second floor is for the tiny ones ( children).three floors but I gotta take one star for no working bathroom!!! Ugh......lucky just outside but across the street was a port a potty on a construction project I was able to unofficially pop in to get relief... Would recommend this place
Wonderful library! They have plenty of computers to use and they only charge $0.20 per sheet that you wish to print. Please note, they do not have a fax machine for public use
I went to this library for the first time recently and it was great. The staff is super kind and polite, always making sure that each person has their mask and cleaning the area. RECOMMENDED✅
This library has the best hours out of all the branches. During the week they are open until 9pm and even open on Sundays. The space is large and well kept, the children's area is very nice and the staff was very helpful.

The environment was very clean and well kept, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Shante (sp)was the librarian who assisted me and she helped me find what I needed, answered all of my questions, and even set me up with a card to allow me to continue my reading. The location is also less than a 10 min walk. 5 stars all around!
Nice atmosphere. Free wi-fi. Friendly staff. We went for our kids second Pfizer shot in a pop up area inside the library. Across the street from the number 5 train, also from the Bx28 and Bx38 busses at the Gun Hill Road and Dewitt Place stop.
Small, local library but with a great selection of children’s books. My kids love visiting. I like the reserve and pick up option but we always peruse the stacks as well. The children’s librarian is really friendly and knows the kids by first name basis. They always have a coloring page or giveaway to hand out to the children and it makes them feel special. They are doing a great job.
The Castle Hill Library is excellent. The have a wide varieties books reading materials and services. The staff is always excellent and professional. I always look forward to going to the Castle Hill Ave Library.

As always quiet and relaxing with plenty room to spread out . Also many computers available
I was so excited to visit tis library because of the amazing staff that always helped my daughter whenever she visit. I went to this library with my desktop just to have enough table space and privacy to write my thesis on my day off. Lo and behold THERE'S NO CHARGING POINT FOR ME TO WORK! My only option was to use the library computers with a 45 min time limits that can be extended only if there's no one waiting to use the computer. My day was messed up and I missed my assignment submission deadline.

My first time at this location. I walked in and an employee was talking very loudly to to someone. They were talking for about 20 minutes. I mean come on it's a library, if you must talk then speak quietly. At least 3 people in the library were talking on the phone. This location does have a guard and he told the people they couldn't be on the phone. I understand that you really can't always control what people do, but the employee loudly talking is a different story. I mean you work there, why are you do loud? You should know better.

Large, clean facility. The children’s area is large and spacious with clean, always locked bathrooms. The security guard will check your bag on leaving as there is not an alarm system tracking the books. Great selection for adults and children. On Fordham, near parks and a multitude of shopping and restaurants.

This is my local branch and i love it! The librarians are kind and attentive. My toddler loves coming to the library and seeing all the colorful rugs and open space. I love that there is a great selection of books in spanish and books about diversity since my child is biracial. Unfortunately i haven't had opportunities to attend their programs but looking forward to it in the future.
A small library branch that is run by helpful and attentive people. I came into the library to print. I was in a rush. The librarians helped make a library card for me quickly and easily and gave me one-on-one computer help. Quiet location and great customer service.

Modest, but well kept supply of exactly what I needed there - books! I enjoyed my time there and the staff were extremely helpful in assisting me with my library card issue. Would definitely recommend!
Huntington Free Library and Reading room is more than just a Library. It's historic with lots of information and memory storage for the Bronx NY dating back to 1890.

Business is open from 2:00pm through 5:00pm all days except Sundays and Public holidays.

This building is dedicated to the memory ID Gollis Potter Huntington in 1890.

It's one of the ancient Public facilities I have ever visited during my time in New York City.

Good business is actually the history of this Library. You will love the memory of the East Tremont Avenue and Blonde's Circa in 1935, the Picture of the Owen Dolen Park in 1915. The Owen Dolen Park has long served as a recreational space and center for commerce when the area was the village downtown of Westchester, before the area became part of the Bronx.

The picture of Westchester and East Tremont Avenue just after the 6 train was created. Many of the bus lines that stop in the Square today service the same routes as these trolleys did.

Just view some of the pictures and see for yourselves, the beautiful history in records at the Huntington Free Library. I encourage tourists and individuals visiting NYC to visit here. It's cool.
Although a very nice library in the day

This library is like going into the feeding den at the Bronx zoo

There are elementary and middle school kids who come to hang out. They have no respect for the security guard nor the people who actually come to study

The staff just sit there like they are afraid of these kids. They need a police officer or two in here

Or just open up romps a room in here. What a disgrace

Overall a good place to sit down and study but the guy who is supposed to maintain discipline is very discriminative. He lets certain people talk so loud on the phone and yet stops others from even uttering a single word. Some people come and teach students privately here which disturb the other readers and is not supposed to happen in the library. That staff guy is the only bad thing about this library

Update 3/5/2021- this location is only for pick up and drop off.

This library is huge. They do search your bags when you are leaving out.The children’s area is very well kept as well the restrooms. They have security on every floor, if you actually want to get work done and use the computer it’s best if you go early before all the computers are occupied.

Staff no friendly and moody. Plenty of computers and laptops. On Summer time is nice and quiet, but school time is awful. Once the new lady manager screamed at the ps71 kids in front of everybody in the library. I felt very disrespected. She can’t control herself, can’t expect kids to behave. For story time Miss Ferrer did an awesome job, she was energetic, friendly and kids loved her, unfortunately she left. Library is clean.
I came here to work on a project with a classmate. This library is a good place to get work done. There were enough tables and chairs to accommodate everyone who wanted to be seated, and the computers never seemed too busy. I would come here again to get work done. It's not completely silent, but I didn't find the sounds from other people (including the children's room upstairs) to be distracting.

There is a quiet room however your “not allowed to close the door” ... then what’s the point of a QUIET room? The quiet room is right by the front and can hear and see everyone walking in making it a HUGE distraction for those that need to study. Unacceptable. This place is awful. It’s loud, dirty, and the homeless walk in and cause a ruckus by talking and moving around Non stop. The front desk people are even loud themselves.
The staff of the second floor are great, they work well with children, assist them with what they need and they have a variety of activities for children of all ages. However, the staff on the first floor are very unpleasant, unfriendly and they show no signs of enjoying their work.

When I greet them they don’t respond and appeared to get bothered if I request for assistance. I suggest they work on improving their costumer service skills.
The Castle Hill library is my favorite branch in the Bronx ! Despite the changing staff over the years ( my son and I have been going there since 2007) the staff is always professional, patient and kind. They expect and gently enforce ( by example) a quiet and reverent atmosphere. Its their behavior that sets the tone for exploring the joys of reading for the young and old alike. My hope would be that someday they could expand, add a second floor ( like they did in parkchester). As a child , I was taught to revere learning institutions . This branch is elite. The staff at Castle Hill provide a welcoming and non " stuffy" vibe but still is the quietest branch in comparison to the surrounding branches. I love it there.!

This location is quiet, clean, and staff are very friendly and quite courteous. The selection a bit sparse but for small location It's well-stocked you can also request any books that you want at the front desk.
Let's first mention the amazing staff that works at this location. The library is tiny yet spacious and we'll kept. The first day I enter r this library I needed to print a few documents for an upcoming exam. I didnt have a library card, but the librarian issued me a temp and showed me where to print.I spent 10 mins and was pleased with th level of courtesy that was shown. Yes I understand that all branches will issue a temp, I'm just pleased by the way I was received and assisted. Ladies if you are reading this I'm coming back today to sign up for a library card!!!

The library became poorly managed under the new interim manager Nanor Pogosian. The Wednesday’s story-time was canceled three times a month!!! (That is three out of four.)The story-time was always on time before, but no more.
Manor Pogosian herself is a very cold person. You would see no smile on her face. She is very mean and unprofessional. Sometimes, I wonder if she hates people, because she is so unfriendly and bad-tempered. This library was very welcoming before, but now you can only experience unpleasant and unwelcoming atmosphere.
I will hesitate to go to this library. However,it was our favorite place to go in the area for the past few years before those good staffs left.So sad!!!

Library plays a very important role in a community, but those unprofessional and unqualified people like Miss Manor Pogosian make it a disaster! When can they have a new and good manager with better management and better service??

The personnel here is so nice! They help you at every step of the way and have many activities for kids and teens. Would definitely go back!
I've been going to this library for over 20years and enjoyed myself. The 3 star review is due to the security guard that is there. He is rude and stares at the little girls. I actually witnessed as he stared at my 12year old little girl and others. The staff are great at this location but he needs to go ASAP! Yes children do act up at times but to tell them to never come back is ridiculous. We worry about our children having a safe place to go and trust that they will be safe in the library but he is unstable and I believe a predator.
Not a wide range of books at all for a growing mind. The environment needs better atmosphere and welcoming employees. Its almost like a graveyard in there. Kids dont have an area to socialize or be fruitful in learning.

Oh my god. This library is generally good. I mean, sometimes it's really hard to concentrate. I generally come here to code, which doesn't require silence, but it would be nice to have sometimes. There's this creepy old guy that watches porn. It's not really porn, but it's like pictures of naked women and he thinks he's slick, but I've noticed. Uhm, there's this lady who sings out loud and nobody says anything?? I'm not bothered, but it's alarming sometimes, because it sounds like she's sobbing hysterically half the time. Uh-- other than that, most of the regulars are genuinely nice people. The staff are extremely friendly.

The Staff are very nice, and very helpful. The children that come in are rude and loud.Once while on the computer, two kids maybe 14 and 10 were acting very rude, laughing, and talking, and singing. A young girl was doing the same thing another day.Worst of all she had a terrible voice! Go get signing lessons before you sing outloud. Oh and Remember disrespectful young people and some not so young, Its a library so Be Quiet!
I love my local Library! Books are great. Most of the time there are little kids running but is to rush to their section, second floor. Overall, I wish I could donate more to them.

Pleasant, quiet and a nice environment. A decent, but not extensive collection of books and DVDs for browsing and leisure use (not for research purposes for adults, with a roomy section and selection for children. Also, a nice looking neighborhood exterior fronted by the two Riverdale library lions.

They're friendly and knowledgeable. It's like coming home. I love going to that branch!
This place is a historical gem... Built in the late 1800s, this was the first library in the Bronx. Not your traditional "lending library", they had multiple reading rooms. For its time, it was controversial for being free and open to all races. The interior is hardly ever open to the public but in speaking to the President Tom Casey, he welcomes visitors and is a total wealth of knowledge. The place is full of historical artifacts and alot of history. "Boardwalk Empire" was filmed here various times.

Loudest library I've ever stepped foot in and I've lived the worse parts of the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. The local area kids and teens treat the bottom floor as a playground, video arcade and nightclub (playing music through their cell phones) and the noise is sometimes LOUDER than a schoolyard. Complaints to staff result in literally nothing but a quick "kids quiet down" which lasts about 2 seconds. I'm also pretty sure that some of the staff here will gossip about you to the kids outside should you become aggressive in your complaints. I've caught them doing it more than once. Also, the foul language in there resembles the type of filth you hear outside a parole office.

3 stars because they run pretty long hours.
I think the library offers many resources for people ranging from classes to performances. However, I am upset about the recent cutbacks to children's programmings. They used to have a Mad Science program and have a children's play or performance every Saturday. They hardly have anything anymore. This change occured after the start of the 2012 school year(September). I suppose this is due to decrease funding. It's unfortunate to say the least. Overall the library is neat and kept in order. Sure the children's section can be loud, but that's why a whole floor is devoted to it. In think floors 3-5 are great and quiet enough for people who want to study or read in peace. Oh..but the bathrooms are horrible, absolutely horrendous. Going there often with children, I noticed that the children's bathrooms smells better than the adult bathrooms.
