This is an off-the-radar gem that needs more attention! We had a couple of hours this morning in Palermo before we had to leave and chose this because it was close and looked interesting. (I'm a book lover and word nerd.) It totally exceeded our expectations. We didn't realize it was by guided tour only and so just showed up. They had to call the guy who could give the tour in English. Turns out, he'd worked there since 1998! So we waited around for him to show up, not sure what to expect. It was *amazing*. We got a personal tour that lasted about an hour, visiting the church and other spaces that all house books and manuscripts. Our guide (never got his name) was pulling books from the 1500s off the shelves and thumbing through them to show us. It was amazing. He was lovely and very informative and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves books, words, knowledge.

Really old books and architecture. Great place for a visit. We had a really good guide who showed us the whole library.

I recommend this place to nomads like me, who can work remotely and ask for silence. You can turn your laptop on and find yourself in the world of a very old library with dusted books and amazing architecture. Better than working in cafes :)

An extraordinary place right in the center of Palermo.

Magnificent library, librarians very eager to show it off. Not a word of English. Loved em.

A very decent library for studying and it’s free.

This place is truly something special. Wheather you're tourist or actually want to study, feel like a quite moment in Palermo, or just up for a laugh, it's worth a visit. There's about 5 receptionists. One of them has been learning English online for 20 years with not much result. He's great fun though.
In the end, you get a security bag to put your stuff in - it's sealed and monitored at all times. Truly Sicilian library experience.
