Visiting the Old Opera House in Frankfurt was truly a magical experience. As I approached the building, I was immediately struck by its grand architecture – the intricate details, the grand columns, and the way it majestically stands against the modern skyline. It felt like stepping back in time to an era of elegance and classical beauty.

Inside, the atmosphere was equally enchanting. The acoustics were incredible, and whether it’s a concert or just a casual visit, the ambiance transports you to a world of music and art. I couldn't help but admire the beautiful chandeliers and classic interior design, which add to the timeless charm of the place.

Overall, the Old Opera House is a must-see in Frankfurt, whether you're an opera enthusiast or simply looking to experience a piece of the city's cultural heritage. I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary!

FRATOPIA FESTIVAL OF DISCOVERIES

My wife and I went to the free festival, it was a lot of fun. It was interesting being able to wander around the Opera house and seeing the different events.

The Alte Oper in Frankfurt is a stunning venue that beautifully blends historical charm with modern functionality. The architecture is breathtaking, with elegant neoclassical details that make it a landmark in the city. The acoustics are excellent, ensuring a memorable experience for any performance. Whether you're a local or a visitor, attending an event at the Alte Oper is a must.

The tickets are not cheap, really not cheap, but it is worth it
Have attended several performances and always entertaining. A great way to spend an evening in Frankfurt!

One of the most beautiful concert halls I've ever been in. The acoustic was exquisite and the experience overall incredible. Obviously this was not only attributable to the hall but rather the concert itself, but the venue certainly contributed with its atmosphere.
My wife and I are regular visitors of the theater. We love Schauspiel because of many reasons - repertoire, of course actors are amazing, decorations are of high quality, convenient chairs, great sound. In case of short breaks there are possibilities to eat some snacks and drink a glass of wine or other beverage. The theater is located right in the city center. There are possibilities to get there by public transportation or park a car - just find a public garage on a map. Highly recommend to everyone.
Ps. you can buy a loyalty card and get good discounts for performances. So we did already.

The old opera house is within a walking distance from the main train station. It is inside the charming inner city of Frankfurt am Main. The house was badly damaged during the WWII bombings but rebuilt in the 70s. It is in active use today. The surroundings are beautiful in Spring time when the cherry trees are blooming. A lot of good restaurants in the vicinity. No wonder it is a popular area for the locals.

I walked to Alte Oper from Frankfurt Central station and was glad I took the 20 minutes to do so. I did not go inside but walked around the outside. It’s a stunning building in the heart of downtown, with beautiful architecture, shapes and contours. It also contrasts against the high-rise buildings that surround it. There is also a great restaurant nearby and sitting place right in front of the building.
I haven’t missed much on the programme of ET for the past 20+ years. Neither did my children as they grew up. We have wonderful memories of so many plays, we still recall and talk about them at times. I must have connected the leaders of such an institution with those positive memories, expecting kinder behaviour or a kind apology for situations caused by their mistakes and then worsened by their behaviour.

Last season I bought a few online tickets and appeared timely in the theatre. In the first instance it appeared that my seat was booked twice. I moved to another available seat leaving mine to the family that wanted to be seated with their children. The second time the theatre was full, and I was asked to move to the first row since the seat was sold twice again. I mentioned to the young staff member that I do not prefer the first row and would like to stay in my seat this time. A nervous man appeared and before understanding the situation he reprimanded me loudly, in third person, that “people are not being cooperative here!” He then went on to shout directly at me very loudly “Sit down!”

I didn’t want to hold the entire theatre from moving on, so I sat down instead of making my own scene. During the break I went up and asked to speak to the manager about the incident. I was told that the nervous man was indeed the manager himself. I thought he might have been nervous to get the play started timely and encouraged myself to be more understanding of the situation.

Later that week I wrote an email to the manager about the incident and my discontent about his disrespectful reaction rather than offering an apology for having booked seats twice -this is what the airlines do at the least. He didn’t reply. His assistant wrote back instead, asking if I actually had a valid ticket at all. After I sent her the valid tickets, I have never heard back again from her or from the manager. Not even a simple apology that there must have been something wrong with the ticketing system, let alone about the manager’s behaviour.

I work for large multinationals and always thought things were more civilized in the cultural scene.
I'm speaking in particular about the play kinder transport. I was lucky enough to see this today and was blown away by the talented cast. The raw emotion was outstanding. Amazingly directed and written. Was left utterly speechless...A must see.
It was so awesome and we had lots of fun with the songs from gigi and the others, which give us the feeling of to be united and the partizipation together with them the artists to do something on time👍🏾🙌🏾🤍🖤🤎💜💙💚💛🧡❤🤜🏽🤛🏼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❣️
Absolutely fantastic 👏
Well worth a watch , grate cast & brilliant show
It's a nice experience to see a performance at that building. I like the big metal clouds that exist at the common space of the building.

My neighborhood. It feels so nice to see the opera building on the way to home. There is most of the time some events in front. You can just enjoy by sitting next to the fountain. My happy place <3

The Old Opera House Frankfurt. A piece of Frankfurter history in the modern world. Magnificent building, restaurant and parking available at the Alte Oper. In summer it’s beautiful due to the water fountain. There is a guy who blows amazing colourful bubbles infront of the Alte Oper, an unforgettable experience for kids. One of the Frankfurter landmarks

Unsere Oper
This is ‚our‘ Frankfurt citizens Opera house and proud that the last generation rebuilt it and saved it from destruction. It shows the love of Frankfurters for culture and the arts.
Went on a recent visit to see Berlin Berlin, which was a stunning performance in cultured ambience (including half time dancing in front of the Opera)

Alte Oper is a concert hall in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany. It is located in the inner city, Innenstadt, within the banking district Bankenviertel. Today's Alte Oper was built in 1880 as the city's opera house, which was destroyed by bombs in 1944. It was rebuilt in the 1970s as a concert hall with a large hall and smaller venues, opened in 1981. The square in front of the building is still known as Opernplatz.

Many important works were performed for the first time when it was Frankfurt's opera house, including Schreker's Der ferne Klang and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in 1937. The Oper Frankfurt now plays in the Opern- und Schauspielhaus Frankfurt, completed in 1951.
I have seen 4 shows here. All were of low quality. I am surprised that this is possible in a big city like Frankfurt. Really disappointing...

Stunning historic building from the 19th century. Apparently it was bombed during the war, but the external area survived and the internal area was rebuilt in a lovely modern style. It is beautiful inside and out. At night the area around is lit up by beautiful street lamps.

The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English (as mein Deutsche is a bit sketchy). We visited in April '23 and booked to see West Side Story - with an American cast. Fabulous show. Well worth visiting the Alte Oper as they have a great schedule of events and performances.

You can drinks inside of course, but there are many restaurants and places to get a drink in the immediate area.
Great theatre though the choice of productions in the last few years has been hit and miss in my humble opinion. Sister Act like which is on currently is great, despite an uninspiring set. Less good is the bar management - chaotic /disorganised- queue for interval drinks blocking way for people wanting to get to bar (and toilet). Would be easy to solve and make the pre-show experience less stressful (and more profitable for the theatre).

As a composer of classical music, I‘ve visited the place countless times over the past 7 years. The architecture of the building is beautiful. Both on the inside and outside.
The surrounding area is kind of a mixed bag, though. Throughout the day it’s mostly crowded with tourist. I don’t like that at all. That’s why I only visit the place in the afternoon, when all the tourists go to bed and the concerts begin.
I can understand that tourists want to take pictures of the place but many of the folks that crowd the area are just loitering teens aka locals. Can’t relate.

A large variety of plays including the Main Stage, the "Box" and the Kammerspiele. Always very good and mostly with a hint of politics. Definetly worth it!
Students Pay 8euros, or can get a card ( Junges Schauspiel) for 20euros, which include activities, three free entries and the rest of the tickets dor 5 euros!
I watched a performance of Sweeny Todd. Outstanding performances from the whole cast and crew. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. The theatre itself is easily located and spotted from the street. The interior layout goes to the basement of the building with a bar on each of the two subfloor level to accommodate the balcony and general audiences. A dedicated coat check line leaving the theatre would have eased some confusion from the guests wondering why the line wasn't moving up the stairs. Otherwise the theatre was excellent and I would love to return for another show.
Not very big, but rather charming and interesting theatre. The person doing the selection knows his job. The pieces played here are top notch. You won't make a mistake coming here at least once a month. Highly recommended!

Have been to two plays and I loved it so far!
This place is just amazing....
atonement, single performance, kids specials.. it has it all.
Stage Work at its perfection ( and some really crazy stuff).
prices are almost unbeatable (Brexit victims will appreciate fast 😏)
Kids editions, especially at X-Mas are legendary ( and tickets are sold at Rock/Pop-star speed.
Just go there and enjoy.
Sehr schönes Theater. Gute Auswahl an Stücken. Tolle Bar mit einer guten Gin Auswahl.

Nice theatre with regularly changing good and interesting plays. Especially the musicals are my favorites. The cast changes with the plays and were always really good. The bar is nice and has a good selection of gin and an ever changing cocktail list aligned to the plays.
It's a must visit if you are in town.

Small stage hall is nice and cosy. Well ventilated and climatized. Been there only once, but the stage was well crafted to the diverse scenes of the place (Talanted Mr. Ripley)
