Entertaining play with quality actors. Well worth time and ticket price
being in mary poppins cured me of my depression

Beautiful theatre! 98 year old building with a lot of history.
The Garage Theatre is a hole-in-the-wall establishment lodged between two ordinary storefronts. It is a theater that is by no means theater-shaped; I suspect the architecture itself informs the independent plays that unfurl onstage. To give you an example, Hat Box, written and directed by Lola Binks, premiered at the Garage in April 2024. The title undersells the premise. It is a play rife with monologues, eavesdropping, and complex interpersonal drama. The fact that the stage is roughly divided into an upstairs landing, a downstairs parlour, and a narrow entryway allows these ideas to shine through in the spaces they inhabit. Keep in mind that it's also very tiny. The Garage offers audiences unique, albeit off-color experiences for (relatively) mature theatregoers that don't mind walking away changed and slightly confused.
I’ve not laughed so much as I did last night at the Long Beach Playhouse’s production of Ben Hur. It is a zany madcap slapstick comedy full of one liners, puns and silly nonsense lines. Hilarious set design and props including a calckity tiny Jesus-on-a-stick and chariots fashioned from desk chairs and cardboard. Don’t miss it, show closes tomorrow night, Saturday March 23 2024. And not a bad seat in this small community playhouse.
Great performance that feels intimate.
Sonya is fabulous! She's not only a wonderfully creative person to work with kids, she can also bring out the most in them, whether it's a shy kiddo who needs to come out of his shell, or a people-loving child who wants to take center stage even when he has no lines in a scene :)
Sonya is the best at making kids feel welcomed; she's fun, patient, and she also encourages something that's so much more prevalent in Europe than in our culture: getting kids to pay attention to one another. She works impeccably well with mixed aged children and [somehow] gets them to care for one another - not just the usual emphasis on individual worth that we tend to cherish so much. Thank you, Sonya, for all you do!

A lot of fun at a small, intimate venue where the audience can sit a few feet away from the performers. We enjoyed an Agatha Chistie, Hercule Poirot mystery.
This is a gorgeous theatre!! I highly recommend it!
They could do better at booking things (they had a musical in the theatre upstairs and a party with loud music on the first floor at the same time, which was disruptive for those of us watching the musical) and having an entrance/exit for parking (instead of creating a bottleneck of cars in both directions). It's still a great space, though!

"Rent" performance was great! All actors did an amazing job! Seats were comfortable & all seats had a clear view of the stage! We still prefer the first floor stage, but the upstairs play did not disappoint! Will continue to attend plays @ this venue!
Travis is a great worker and I recommend going to his top tier plays and musicals! They are a magical experience that I will never forget.

If you're in Long Beach and there is something playing here , it's definitely worth the visit. We looked up plays in Long Beach and found 5his wonderful little theater. I prefer small venues and local talent and this place is a winner. Grab some wine and snacks and enjoy the local vibe and great talent .

I went to see the Alice in Wonderland Radio Show tonight and I was so surprised by the production. It’s better than anything I could’ve imagined… I truly wish everyone could go to experience a radio show at least once in their life & this is a great place to start.

Tiny venue but very fun and entertaining shows. Easy access from I-710 highway and major surface streets. Parking structure neighboring property.

Went for grandkid's dance recital. Large theater, comfortable seats.
Over 90 years of bringing live productions to the community, this theater is truly a Long Beach gem. Today I saw veteran actor, Robyn Hastings performing in the play, "Intimate Apparel." What a treat. Great acting, great seats, friendly staff and the wine ain't bad either.
Small theater, doesn't hold many people, but GREAT show!
The best little theater in the state. Everyone is so friendly. I go for the shows but I stay for the community and the staff. Made me feel like family. I can't wait for the next big show.
This place is great. I love going to their shows. They have a unique sense of theater and it makes it an exciting show. They draw in crowds of all ages but some shows are more for the younger generations. I go back here sometimes and I think you should check them out sometime. They are great for a date night.

They do put together some good Broadway shows. Also they do have some good volunteers that help with the front of the show and also some that help with the backstage of the show.

Que Sera Sera! Ernest Borgnine is honorably remembered by the theater that bears his name. I came here with my husband to watch the recent wonderful performance about Doris Day. The theater has a dedicated parking lot immediately next door making it very convenient. Upon entry, one is struck by the dramatic entry into a 90 year old building that is beautifully iconic. I gave the performance a 5 for the performer's tslents including the live musicians. There is a sizable lounge that serves snacks and beverages during intermission. My original review was removed for some unknown reason. However, I'm re- reviewing in the hopes that theater patrons will be stirred to give this venue a try. It really is a pleasure to watch live entertainment!!!
My wife and I have seen about 4 plays and each one was very enjoyable.
A really fine play, I enjoyed it very much. I must add my granddaughter was a participant. Savannah McFarland.
What a charming little playhouse and a lovely production! This was my first time but certainly not my last. Certainly not sacrificing quality either, the acting was tremendous!

Tiny theater with a great vibe and a dedicated cast and crew. Saw reenactment of the War of the Worlds 1938 broadcast and it was marvolous!

This is the best play I have ever been to at the the Long Beach Playhouse. The Haunting of the Hill House was awesome!! Extremely talented actors. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!! "ELEANOR" is in another category, she NAILED IT!! BUT THEODORA, LUKE, DR MONTAGUE WERE NOT FAR BEHIND. Will definitely go see this play again!!
It is a great venue for dance and theater performances. I have attended many dance performances there over the years plus a couple theatrical performances.
All around creatively constructive ambiance full of spontaneity, sincere art, passionate people, and plenty of community. Some Artist friends and I popped in and caught the Love, Thunder, and... Dynamite opening premier and what a spectacular performance! Whether a tourist or Long Beach native the "double deuce" is definitely a place to catch local theater majors, and the like. 5/5*

The quality of the production of In the Penal Colony was superb. The theater itself is well laid out and parking is very easy. There is plenty of disabled parking. The seating inside the theater is not the most comfortable and not always raked appropriately, but the sound is good. Over all probably 4.5 stars.
I really came here to support a friend. I like the venue but really this review is for the acoustics and speaker system.
During the play I felt some of the actors and actresses strained their voices while singing to project their voices. Sitting in back probably didn't help much but, again, the acoustics weren't up to par here, in my opinion.
The theatre itself was cozy, lighting was good. Seats were comfortable. Concessions served beer and some snacks but nothing major. Parking was decent with a long parking lot and easy in and out.
Again, the venue is not bad, they just need to update the sound system.

Act Out is a great community theater. I've loved all that I've seen there. It is really cool that it is a tuition free theater that reaches teens.
Such a lovely small black box theater and not just Shakespeare! Radio shows, musicals and everything in between! A fun few hours and for $12.50, not an expensive option!
Never had an issue finding parking, and if you have to walk a few blocks, it's a great stroll while checking out the neighborhood restaurants and shops!

Love this wonderful tuition free theater. My daughter loves this place and gained so much confidence in each show she has been in . Thank you Act Out Theatre I would give you 10 stars if they would let me

Adorable space. You walk across the set to your seats, which are mostly old movie theater chairs. Plays here are infrequent, but enjoyable
Awesome local company. I'm never disappointed by their shows, and their frequent selection of less-performed work is a treat. The space is small and intimate, and the company always comes up with creative ways to use it.
I've been to two of their productions and have been blown away both times by the sea, the costumes, and the acting. You can tell the entire crew and cast put their hearts into it!

Great place for community theater
If you like small, intimate theater and "black box" type seating, it's a great place! These folks LOVE what they do and it's just fun!!
Saw a production of "The Stinky Cheese Man" here and it was incredible! The cast was super into their roles and got the audience involved, which really made the night memorable. It's a very small venue, holding maybe 30 or 40 people, but I really enjoy intimate shows so I'll definitely be coming back.
This place was absolutely awesome to visit. We went to see their production of the Evil Dead the musical and they did such a great job!! So much fun and messy and we loved how intimate the room was. Super cozy and it is really incredible to be so close to tue action.
Everyone participating in the production was so colorful and inviting. I really loved seeing this show and hope to return for other productions. I am so glad a place like this exists and appreciate everyones hard work that went into entertaining us, when we visited. I had such a great time and left feeling so happy and excited. You guys rock!!!

Sonya Henning of EAMTA has created a fun space and exciting curriculum for students to explore their inner creativity and let it shine it through dance and theatrical expression. The instructors balance the art of teaching team-building as well as personal self-expression, emphasizing and nurturing the strengths that are unique to each and everyone who participates. I highly recommend EAMTA!
Cannot speak more highly of the incredible classes at Emerging Artists! Instructors, curriculum and beautiful space are all top of the line and the joy on the children's faces really says it all...
