Walked through Sungnyemun Gate just as the guards were being changed. Great photo opportunities. Then continued down to Sungnyemun grounds. Lots of buildings from when it was the palace. Also site of a museum. Grounds were very spacious so no crowds...great way to relax. Cost was only 1000 won to gain entry.

Didn't have the chance to enter as it was just closed!
But it looks kind of interesting especially when its juxtaposed in between all the sky scrapers and traffic in down town Seoul.

Beautiful Seoul City gate that dates back several centuries. One of our regular walking spots.
One of the gates for the Old Wall of Seoul. Well maintained and has a standing guard. The entrance is free.

One of the Eight Gates in the Fortress Wall of Seoul. Just about the noon, we were lucky to spot guards.

The Southern gates of Seoul, surrounded by skyscrapers, Sungnyemun is a well known gate in Seoul. It breaks the modernity of Seoul with traditional architecture.

Many new visitors might not know, but this gate was set on fire by an arsonist in 2008 and it was restored and reopened in 2013.

I came to Korea in 2012 and I remember not to be able to get close to it. However, now, if you are walking towards Seoul station, you often get to cross through this gate. I like the painting the and city view as you come out from it.

There are also performances of traditional guards changing their shifts, like the ones you see in most of the palaces.

It is a nice place to stop by, and pics come out very pretty here.

Wonderful historical site in a modern city. So well preserved. There are also very clean public restrooms on site. Right near Namdeamun market.

It's great to pass by these historical gates around seoul. But these gates do make walking and looping around them slightly more trying when u try to walk pass to the destination.

It would be cool if KTB can have a small sections on all the historical gates. Some are more in features and sights, some are just left with a facade.
