Very nice field to play & the view from here to the Big City Manhattan amazing 😎.
Whitey Ford was an Astoria native who, after signing with the Yankees in 1947, became a Cy Young Award winner, a six-time World Series champion, and one of the greatest pitchers in Yankee history. In August 2000, this field overlooking the East River was named after the "Chairman of the Board" at a special Yankee Stadium ceremony.
For a field named after a Yankee legend much better care should be taken. Great location to play a game. Bad location for parking. Ther are no bathroom facilities available.
It's great having a local ballfield, but it's very poorly maintained. The parks department hardly ever cuts the grass. Drainage is very poor and the field gets flooded after small rain storms. The entire field needs to be renovated. I'm sure the field is largely neglected because of its location, but I'm sure as the area gentrifies and is filled with new "luxury" construction, it will get more attention.
Field is not in the greatest condition but it's a great field play
This place needs a lot of TLC. I'm sure that once the building next to it is complete the parks department will be forced to put a tin of money in. Let's hope anyway.
Astoria park too crowded for your liking? This little park is nestled at the end of multiple bus lines. Nice little place to relax
The views are amazing. But the overall park isn't much. And the baseball/softball field could use to attention.
