Somewhat fun outdoor activity with educational opportunities, and I love any place that supports a local ecosystem, but the trails are not very long and done plants are missing ID placards
Went on a cold Sunday. There was no wait and not many people in the park. Spent 2 to 3 hours there. The highlight was the Japanese and the prehistoric garden. Would definitely come back on a warm and sunny day. The garden has a lot of places to sit and relax.
Great relaxing space to explore in Austin! The gardens were all amazing, but the prehistoric was my favorite. There are plenty of places to sit & soak in the views of the city views as well. I got lucky with the weather (mid October), but there was a lot of shade & felt comfortable. I will definitely be back for another visit!
We had a very good experience at this dog friendly botanical garden, the weather was great and the gardens were lovely. Very reasonably priced entry fee and there was not much of a crowd which made for a peaceful morning. Would definitely return!
Well marked trail and beautiful. Lots of shade. Plenty of parking when I’ve been. Lots of trash cans and recycling bins at the end for any trash you might pick up along the trail. Not a lot of water at Sculpture Falls when we went but peaceful all the same.

An incredible place to visit to interact with animals, fish and exotic birds. I was able to feed and touch 3 different penguins, pet a boa, a black and white lemur and two toucans. It is small but well taken care of. A memory that I will always cherish. The staff and animal handlers were friendly and informative.
My 8 year old survived the trail. Safe for a kid. I also saw alot of furbabies. I would suggest little shoes for thrn though as there is a lot of broken rocks. There was no water at all ad I walked down the path, but it was a great walk.
Nice place to visit while in Austin, Tx. I encourage you to buy a succulents plants. They are easy to take care and not much water. To put on. Koi fishes and lilies, bonsai. Restrooms in facilities. Please don’t forget hats, sunscreen and water. Go visit!

The environment is a clean and well-lit ambience…. The staff is very friendly and they do not suffocate the visitor. The encounters were informative and virtually privatized. Emma was patient, kind and succinctly knowledgeable, especially after repeating to numerous customers—it was still very personable with a high-level of professionalism….. we will be bak, since the service and experience was worth us getting annual memberships 🙂….. Thank You Austin Aquarium!!!! 🐍🦆🐢🦖🐓🐛🦜🦘🦐✨🌎👌‼️‼️‼️‼️

P.S. Caring for Exotic Animals requires a “Community of service” and the prices factor into the operation, of such an establishment…. Thanks again ‼️

This museum is totally freaky with squeaky doors, old winding staircases and hidden things to find. Older wax museum for the first horror movies. Some pretty gruesome animals and freak show pictures. Only for those who like the creepy freak side show ambiance.
Lots of weird stuff / artifacts here. Owner Steve Busti created the store and collection with his wife Veronica, reflecting his lifelong fascination with the bizarre. There's a 3,000 year old mummy, and a replica skull of a Texan Bigfoot. There is a wax museum and also an exhibit with an iceman preserved in a freezer. Lots of crazy stuff to see and read.

Had an amazing time here! It's smaller than other aquariums, but much more interactive. There is a huge selection of animal/sea life from all over that you can actually interact with. They sell tokens in addition to the admission price that are used for animal interactions such as feeding the stingrays and birds, getting balloon animals and going into the animal exhibits. They have a small cafe with drinks and snacks. Parking is free and you can be in and out in a little over an hour. It was a great experience and we'll be back!

Nice place. I liked that many animals you were encouraged to pet. My only issue is price. It’s VERY expensive for what you see. We enjoyed ourselves but were there only about 30 minutes and that was including gift shop. I know maintaining animals is expensive, but just be warned, if cost is a factor. Staff are very nice.

Awesome location! The staff was super nice and very informative and knowledgeable on all the animals. Big shout out to Vonnie for making our experience a great first experience 😁 she was very patient with my daughter and explained everything with a smile! She even made sure we were able to get a few good pictures for memories! Thank you again to all the staff for a great experience, will definitely recommend and come back to spend more money here.

+ lots of habitats
+ plenty of shade & places to sit
+ outside food was allowed inside
- walkways not always stroller friendly, wheelchair friendly, or friendly to those who walk with a cane or other assistance
- It was very difficult to navigate the zoo—there wasn’t always an obvious way to walk, and if we turned one way, we didn’t know where it might lead or if it would lead us back to the main path. Despite maps in hand, I got lost a lot.

I don’t think the minuses warrant an entire star removed, especially since this is a smaller, private zoo. Overall, we were impressed by the exhibits and all the love & care that went into the zoo. We hope to return again.

Absolutely incredible place to visit! Many interaction opportunities, the staff are all well educated and very friendly! Our favorite moment of the day was getting to hang out with Brandi and Sid the Sloth! They were both amazing and really made the visit special! I would come back here a thousand times more just to feed the parakeets! Awesome place with awesome animals and experiences for a really great price! 100% recommend! Also, Sid you are the most beautiful boy, I hope to see you again!

Wow! I went with my husband and best friend for a day of fun things, which included our first visit to the Austin Aquarium. We were already very pleased with how happy and well-socialized the animals seemed, and the variety considering how relatively small the building is! I was grabbing a sloth souvenir for my sloth-loving mom as we were leaving, and educator Ryan asked in passing if we were sloth fans. I told him it was for my mom and mentioned that we’d looked in on the sloth but didn’t see him, and he said he had some time to show us Sid! Ryan was so frickin’ friendly and knowledgeable, and passion practically oozed from him as he told the three of us a BUNCH of information about sloths, training, and sloth conservation as we stood in Sid’s enclosure for almost half an hour. He absolutely turned our pleasant visit into an unforgettable experience, and I’m so grateful for him!

This time of the year it is kind of dried out. But you can find residual ponds here and there. Bit long hike from the parking area. But it is worth the effort.
The folks who are working here just elevated the experience- loved it here. So rich in culture and history. Great grassroots exhibition.

Extremely surprised how interactive the visit was! My friend and I got to pet a lot of the animals as well as feed them! There are tokens for purchase to feed animals, but most of the exhibits were free so you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy! All the employees truly care about the animals and making everyones experience so much fun. The employees are knowledgeable about the animals too! Ryan was an employee who showed us Louie the crocodile! Such a fun experience! Highly recommend!

It's a cute little zoo and a good price to spend an hour or two. There's a petting area in the center of the zoo, you can feed some of the animals for a small fee for the food. Really nice gift shop and lots of little areas to sit and eat lunch. You can also ride the train for $5.00.
The climbing here was, at some point, very good. No matter what time of year, what temperature, what conditions, every route on every wall is a grease fest. Everything is slimy with years of sweaty hand residue from people here every day on every wall because access is SO easy. That being said, the routes are all still pretty on-grade, which means they feather bagged them originally, so it's fine. There are only a couple walls worth visiting if you climb hard. Be prepared to be surrounded by gumbies, muggles, and all sorts of the weather is good.

Small, but impressive museum in Central Austin. I've driven past this museum hundreds of times and never noticed this mini-castle that's a block off of 45th street. If you're curious about Austin/Texas history, this museum is worth checking out. The architecture of the building is pretty cool see. Inside there's various sculptures of famous European and Texas figures.

We decided to arrive early due to the extreme heat that these days bring and it was really a good visit. My children had a lot of fun feeding goats and whit the ride on train too, we were able to see many animals and above all we appreciate each biography to understand the wonderful work they do giving all these animals a new home! We were delighted and, of course, in love with the love and dedication that they put into the zoo! Thank you!! and of course, we will return (in cooler days) LOL
Absolutely beautiful grounds! There’s a small entrance fee but worth it-Austin residents get a discount. The grounds are well-maintained and feature a prehistoric garden, waterfall, statues of dinosaur and other animals, herb garden, Japanese garden and so much more.

The name says it all!!! You'll find anything from old clipped fingernails to mermaid fossils, wax figures, and more!! They have cool things at the gift shop as well. I tried mango habanero roasted cricket snacks and they actually good. The cashier told me they have to stock up on those regularly
Great small museum for visit even if you are not the sculptures expert, you can enjoy the story of this wonderful talented woman and her husband, loved the interior and atmosphere, you will have a list with names of presented sculptures. Absolutely recommended if you are in Austin, no cost, not crowded, located in green zone.

Modern day cabinet of curiosities featuring taxidermy, wax figures, movie memorabilia, an actual mummy, and various unexplained objects... all it was missing was the crystal skull. Quite a fun little time if you like this sort of thing, and well worth the price of admission. Also the AC was blowing quite cold, which was refreshing on such a hot summer day.
It is super affordable and not overly crowded. The garden is loaded with sculptures from both Umlauf but also visiting artists have work there as well. Plus I got engaged there so what's not to love!

Wow, this place is a gem among gems! We were met by an extremely helpful curator who gave us a history of the museum. The building is stunning and you simply must experience the charm of being surrounded by the sculptures. A must see in Austin!
It was not what I expected of a botanical garden. The Japanese garden inside was nice but the rest lacks variety. The cactus and succulents garden has almost no succulents at all. A few big cacti and that's it. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice place to walk around but if you really like seeing exotic plants don't expect much of it.

We absolutely loved it.
We thought it was going to be short and boring, because of how small it was on the outside.
BUT, the museum just kept going and going and going, to different cool areas. It was soooooo worth it. Makes you think why they don't charge more. But I'm blessed they are nice enough to be more affordable, than the other museums.
Their gift shops had affordable prices too.
The staff were so sweet and nice and knowledgeable.
We live 3 hours away, but would go again.
I have so many pictures and videos from here.

An amazing collection of pictures, album covers and biographies of Texas musicians of many different genres. This is a real historical archive that preserves the memories of many musicians who might otherwise be forgotten.

There was no water at the time of this review, if you're going to sculpture falls to cool down, don't waste your time! It's a beautiful hiking trail though so if you're going to hike, it still has that option available.

Very unusual collection of Ney's sculpture art work and family history. There isn't an admission fee but donations are encouraged.
Very well-kept and active botanical garden. I’ve come a few times and always have a nice, relaxing hike. At a steady pace, it takes about 1.5 hours to traverse the whole garden.

Their garden sections are themed and range from a Japanese garden to a cactus, desert and prehistoric times. All very well laid out and with beautiful landscapes as well as places to rest for a bit.

I’ve yet to check any of the classes or activities but they seem very interesting.
My favorite hike/run/walk spot in Austin! Great for a swim when the creek is flowing. Do be careful of snakes!
Been doing hiking in this space for many years and it never disappoints. If you start at Barton Springs Pool the area runs along Barton creek to Ben White then to West Lake Hills. Some of the side trails are challenging and dangerous that run up and along the cliffs. The water in the creek can vary depending on how much recent rainfall. Make sure you bring plenty of water and proper hiking shoes for the journey.

The kids will have fun. The peacocks are definitely the stars of the show as many of them have escaped their enclosure and have no fear of visitors. As others have said, this isn't one of those manicured zoos with wide open fields where you struggle to see the animal hiding in the back because they're asleep in the shade during the heat of the day. This is a zoo with many smaller cages and pens, close together to minimize walking in the Texas heat; and you spend far less time trying to spot a cool animal as they are often 2 feet in front of you. They have plenty of exotic animals (Monkeys, Big Cats, Zebras, Alpacas, Capybaras, Ostriches, Lemurs, Enormous Tortises) and just as many Texas staples (Wolves, foxes, longhorns, groundhogs, Goats, wild boar, and even a cute Armadillo), My 4 and 9-year-old were able to walk the whole thing and ride the train in about 1.5 hours. We're from the north, so I'm glad I packed bottles of water for a hot July day. The reptile house was one of the few air conditioned places besides the gift shop. I would've given this place 5 stars if the bathrooms had AC and the train ride had been a bit longer. There's a lot of potential here too and I hope they refurb the pirate ship we spotted as they're renovating. It was about $53 to gain entry with 2 adults and 2 children. The train was an additional $20 plus tax. There were a number of feeding/close encounter opportunities available for $25 that we passed on. If you forget your own drinks/snacks, they will happily charge $3.5 to $5 apiece when you get to the ice cream stand at the train; luckily, we brought our own.

If you're into anything weird, spooky and just the macabre in general, this is the place for you! Me and my partner went earlier this week and had a blast! There were 4 separate areas and they all have really cool stuff to see and a lot of the objects/props have interesting stories to read about so I recommend taking your time! There are also 2 gifts shops with weird and unique goodies to buy (i recommend the Museum of The Weird comic) The staff was also very friendly and helpful! There's free 2 hour parking on the street if you can manage to get a spot as well. All in all it was a great experience and I recommend this to anyone who's looking for someone cool to do!
June 2023:

Years and years have gone by and today was sober enough to walk in to see the Museum of the Weird. Well not exactly not the sober part, but it was on my list of places to see over the summer. My first impression was this place was small but as I walked inside I enter a new realm. Just the lobby has lots to see. I bought tickets and my wife and I entered at our own risk. I don’t want to give out surprises but his place was amazing, and crammed full of weirdness and exotic trinkets. It’s much bigger than I thought with lots of rooms and floors to see.

As the sign said you will see shrunken heads, fee jee mermaid, cyclops pig, and much more like wax figures. There is even a second gift shop on the top floor. I was very fun to visit and see in keeping Austin weird.

It was weird and funky. It was a perfect respite from the heat. Wasn't very busy when we went in, packed on the way out.

Make sure you look for the exits. it could be bad if something happened and you had to evacuate quickly. Safety first.

This is a really nice private zoo. It is not a large zoo, but much better than some large zoos around the country. If you live in the area or just visiting, be sure to check out this hidden jet. They have a nice variety of animals. Be sure to take the time to do the train, it's well worth the money. If coming during the warmer months go first thing in the morning. All the zoo keepers and employees are very knowledgeable and friendly. You don't have to go with kids to enjoy. I'll definitely be back for more visits!!
There are some great sculptures to take a look at and the grounds are great to walk around, but ultimately I give this only a 4 star review because there's not too much to see and some of the pieces or themes are a bit too repetitive.
Great old home with tons of history!
There are several photos on Google already. I am adding the wicker loveseat from 1880 during the time of the Neills. This is part of an original 5 piece set of which 3 remain. Tge arm chairs were already uploaded by someone else. This is the only existing slave dwelling in Austin. There are a few other exterior photos at different angles. Due to this not being an agricultural producing plantation the dwelling matches the exterior of the main house. However, it had a dirt floor and little is known about the residents. Approximately 10 ten enslaved persons lived in the two floors.
Unveiling Austin's Hidden History!

Prior to my involvement as a volunteer at the Neil-Cochran House Museum, I had no knowledge of the existence of surviving "slave quarters" in Austin. However, visiting the museum enlightened me about the realities of life in Austin during the 1800s. Contrary to popular assumptions of peace and idyllic surroundings, the museum offers a wealth of information on the tumultuous nature of that era. Visit the museum, you'll thank me later!

LOVE this rescue/conservation zoo! The staff are very informative so my girls, hubs and I always learn new things about the animals. We went over a year ago and there was a lot of construction but it's open now and they seem to be adding! Came on my daughter's birthday during the week and we had delicious pulled pork sammies at the food truck for lunch 🥰🦋

The zoo was decent. Aside from a few animals, it was less unique and more like a trip to the farm. Definitely recommend for 5+. My 2 and 3 yo's didn't really have the best of time. There are free roaming peacocks, and while they are gorgeous and definitely a novelty attraction, the staff will tell you to keep 5+ ft from them as they can get aggressive. But it's mildly difficult to enjoy the park when you're worried about your toddler possibly being attacked by one, and even more so when they block the pathway and you have to forgo a whole section of the park. I applaud their efforts for conservation, but we likely won't be going back unless they add a "must-see" attraction. CoA should definitely invest and help as a zoo is a massive attraction for parents and kids and gives the city another adventure/attraction.
This is a fantastic little sculpture garden in Austin! It is a little small though, as you won’t spend more than 25 minutes here. The grounds were beautiful though, and I got free military admission which I appreciated!

A small historical and natural museum close to downtown.
Being in Austin, I wasnt aware of this place for a quite long time.
Visited for an Art exhibition. The sculptures were arranged and decorated with lot of efforts as you can see from pictures.
The place is well preserved from the old times including the staircases. The chair at the lawn and garden was very peaceful.
Checkout the timing in the Facebook page for any special events.

No water in sight 4/22/23. Lots of people around. Trails were not marked in anyway, seems like there used to be some signs but were never replaced. Easy enough to follow the well-trodden paths, but after about a mile we turned around - trail can be rocky and uneven. Did see lots of salamanders. We didn't see any freshly broken car windows, but definitely plenty of broken glass in the car park as others have said.
Peaceful sculpture garden. Works are generally biblical or based on Greek mythology. Admission is only $7 for adults. Stop by if you have half an hour to kill.
A very cool place to visit. I went there for a wedding, walking around the museum was like experiencing life in that beautiful house. Highly recommended!
Nice relaxing spot. Very well kept and a pretty setting to view the nice collection.

Mark down is because it is a very busy trail and parking is on the side of an access road. Otherwise, very nice out and back trail along the River and some areas where people were swimming. Many with dogs off leash.
To have a beautiful gem like this right in the center of town is one of those things that reminds me why I love living in Austin for over 30 years. It’s serene and contemplative, from the lush green trees to of course the art, the running water, and the gorgeous pond. I really love it here.

Great trail. Not a curated trail with purposely smoothed areas, and it can get a little tight at times as groups pass by in opposite directions, but the uneven terrain is never laborious. I have 2 medium sized dogs and they traveled without issue. While the trail is more or less a straight line following the creek, there is plenty of interesting distractions on the sides to keep it from ever feeling drab. Took my kids (each around 10), and they didn't have any trouble hiking it either, and loved the varied geography. Only downside is parking can fill up and stretch pretty far down the on ramp leading to the trailhead.

Beautiful place to hike! Definitely bring a map or use a map app so you don’t get lost, there are a lot of trails that run parallel to the main train that make it confusing. Great views and a fun place to adventure!

Around 45 minute walk from the trailhead. Most of the trail is shaded, but bring a small bottle of water with you. The falls were dry in October due to lack of rain, but still had some standing water. The rock formation around the falls are nice to see.
Lovely little hidden gem in the shadow of downtown Austin! I had no idea it existed, nor the story behind the man behind the place. Excellent for meditation, reading, relaxing, escaping the chaos for a bit. The curator and docents are all kind, knowledgeable and wow approachable. I'll be back, frequently! ♡
Beautiful spot to hike. You can hike as long as you like along side the dry river bed (do not know if it really fills and when). The path is narrow and some people were biking which was not so safe for them or the hikers.
We never knew this was here ! We all enjoyed it!
My husband found this place on a post from Instagram. We went to visit with our kids. We all didn’t know much about Elisabet Ney but after our visit we all learned something new. They provide a booklet of very informative information for you to read along the way. It also goes by numbers so you know what your reading on. I highly recommend and don’t forget to go upstairs
What an self pace experience to step back into history. One of oldest residences along side slave quarters attached is something heartbreaking but rich with culture. In person face to face experience of history is always one for my books.

The hike is amazing but if there is anywhere else to park and walk from other than on the side of S Mopac I would opt for it. There is a very high chance your car or someone you go with will get broken into. It’s not worth a $300-400 window repair. Don’t leave any valuables in your car, or just don’t go at all. Pictures of my car that got broke into today below.

Still a work in progress! More a 3.5, but... Loads of information about the Texas music scene! Trying to add to space and add to the information! Enjoy, wish there had been souvenirs.
Every time I come back to Austin, I try one new place to visit. I checked out the Umlauf Sculpture Garden! Tickets are only $7/person, which makes sense as the garden is rather smaller than I anticipated. I would say you will finish exploring the garden in about 40 minutes. But I still enjoyed it. I came on a Friday morning when they opened. The staff was nice and you get a sculpture guide so you can read more about each sculpture created by Charles Umlauf. When you're done, return the guide. I will say that there's very limited parking so if this garden is on your list, I recommend coming as soon as they open to get a parking spot close to the entrance, otherwise there's overflow parking down the street.

This is a great hike... I actually like hiking here. There's a lot of uphill and downhill or you can take the other trail that's more flat. The reason I give this trail only 3 🌟 is because safety. I would not recommend doing this trail alone, especially if it's not during peak times (10-5) on weekends. A lot of cars VISIBLY get broken into here. There was nothing but shattered glass throughout the entire parking area. Just be careful. There are PLENTY of other places you can hike or walk a trail and feel safe and know your belongings aren't likely to get stolen or even come back to a broken window.

Went for a early morning hike with the Mrs. it was a beautiful sight and can't wait to go back after a few rains. The hike is moderate a few steep inclines but fairly smooth when you are near the water.

For hiking or biking it is a great place, considering it is in the middle of the city. Be aware it doesn't have public restroom. Also there are two different paths if you are into hiking go to the upper one. The one close to the creek it is better for biking.

Beautiful spot. Easy hike for the kids. Great swimming. This was the kids favorite spot on our trip. Our car window and the car next to us were smashed in when we got back. Don’t leave valuables in the car.

One year later… I changed mine to 4 stars because the second time we came out we still saw shattered windows when we came back out. We met someone coming out of the trail that said the water was dried up due to the drought and within 5 minutes of walking for a bit, hearing that, and turning around back to the car, windows were smashed. Someone said the saw them running back into the woods. Our windows weren’t smashed this time, but this seems this is a common occurrence. There’s a police camera there now but that didn’t make a difference.

Love everything about this hike! There are always a lot of people here but all just having fun in the water. Find a place to sit in the creek along the way or hike however long you want. The trails are not too steep but some places you might need a little traction. Always enjoy going here by myself or with friends and it never disappoints. Also: it can be very hot in the summer of course so definitely bring a swim suit so you can cool off.
Lovely little museum in the heart of the city. The museum is located one of the oldest buildings in Austin Texas. The building itself is incredibly beautiful and historic and the art within is such a nice treat. Many local artists are highlighted here.
Free parking in the back, can’t believe it coz’ usually parking on downtown is an issue. There was a super knowable girl in charge the museum that answer all my questions. Museum was clean and open on Sundays. The history of the house is very interesting and well preserved, they even illustrate the kind of food they used to have.

My wife said that the displays reminded her of her grade school scrap book projects. While the museum is long on displays and short on artifacts, it’s hard to criticize a museum that free and run by volunteers. I would take headphones to listen to the YouTube videos that are easily accessed through QR codes.
