It is a must-visit in Beijing. I went on a sunny warm day in early May. It was very full of locals as it was extended weekend of Labor Day. That made my visit a bit uncomfortable as they were thousands and thousands of people all around.
Architecture of the Summer Palace is amazing and it is full of history.
I used East and South-East entrance. Even in public holiday and nice weather, I didn’t have to wait more than 10 minutes to get tickets, which are affordable and worth the expense.
There are nice paths and bridges to walk in quiet; also the lake is beautiful.
I strongly suggest to pay the integrated ticket that allows you to see all attractions inside, as the Hall of the See of Wisdom and its Thousand-Hand Buddha Statue are amazing!!!

This place is magnificient really. The lake was super large. Imagine in the past workers were requested to dig the soil up just to make this lake and those soil, mud were piled up into a big hill at the back. The lake is huge with many lovely bridges to go.for a walk. They offer also boat services but the line is extremly long. Not to mention there are like more than 10.000 people there in a day, at the same time because we went there during the weekday but it was super crowded. You could hardly see anything or stop even for taking some nice photos coz the crowds would just keep pushing you forward. It was crazy packed with people almost like everywhere else in Beijing. However its history and beauty make it worth to come by even just a bit. We were trying to take some pics while it was raining.
Very huge. You pay for the park entrance and if you want to see the ruins you have to buy another ticket.

I recently visited this stunning place, and I must say, it's one of the most beautiful destinations I've ever experienced. The time spent here was absolutely worth it. To truly soak in the breathtaking views and scenery, I'd recommend allocating at least half a day. Yes, there are plenty of steps to climb, but the effort is handsomely rewarded by the unparalleled beauty awaiting at every turn. It's an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking natural splendor and tranquility.

This was the garden for the mother of the emperor. The total size is even bigger than the forbidden city. The lake is connected to the forbidden city though

It is advice you spend at least half day there as it is too big to finish all. If you want to take the boat to do a tour on the lake, you have to buy another ticket.

It is very beautiful there however what you seen there might not be the original as some of it was damaged and recovered by the gov.

Overall one of the must see places in Beijing. Recommended!!
A pretty small mountain, takes 10-15 minutes to go up the mountain and 7 - 9 minutes to come down. The view is good

Beautiful place, and I saw some locals dressed up like characters from Empresses in the Palace! Some of the stone steps can be a little tricky, but it's in general a very easy walk as well. Careful not to be on a bridge as sun sets, though! The insects swarm a little.

Big park! Lots of historical ruins. Would be great if you have a guide to explain its significance. Not easy to get around with kids as it’s impossible to cover everything in a day. To save your legs, you could take a boat ride. There was quite a queue for the boat ride, however I came on a weekend so that is to be expected. If you only have limited time and have to choose between this and summer palace I would choose summer place anytime.

This palace was built upon a hill facing a lake. Felt breeze while walking on the lawyers of buildings demonstrating their splendor, uniqueness and magnificence. It’s truly a summer palace for getaway. Come here early once door opened to avoid crowds. Order tickets online. We stopped by their restaurant for morning coffee tea break: delicious tea, desserts and various sweet soups. The lady even did a quick hairdo for our girls. We also saw an artist writing Chinese choreography on the floor.

One of the must-visit places in Beijing, the summer palace offers visit to a vast area of the summer palace, which is a large ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces. The area was an imperial garden in the Qing dynasty, which includes the Longevity Hill, the Kunming Lake and the Seventeen Hole Bridge. It covers an area of approximately 3 square kilometers.

This is a top attraction but a little bit of a let down after The Forbidden City. It's a pleasant park to explore, with plenty to see and do. You could spend a good half day here. It has one truly stunning view, across the lake to the Summer Palace, spoiled slightly by the regular heavy smog in the city.

You need a ticket, of course. There's two kinds of tickets: one for the park and one that includes the park and the palace/museums. We bought the more expensive one, but didn't end of up going inside anywhere. The park is huge.

We bought our tickets through trip dot com, which puts you in touch with third parties in China who can sort out the tickets for you. I wasn't sure if I could trust them, or that the email ticket they sent me would even work, but I was prepared to take a risk to reduce the hassle and learn more about what works and doesn't in China.

And our tickets worked fine.

The summer palace is so incredibly beautiful. I could walk around the ground for hours!! There is an incredible view every corner you turn. I could not stop taking pictures!! Definitely worth a visit!
I visited Baiwangshan (百望山) on a Monday in December and there was virtually no one else there. It is a mountainous park with many different paths, some are paved and suitable for wheelchairs while others are steep hiking trails with scree and steps. The routes are well marked with maps placed at regular intervals. You can spend many hours exploring the pavilions, memorials, statues, and towers situated along the trails. From the top, the view is quite magnificent. Admission fee is 6 yuan.

Ticketing is done in 2 tiers - access to the park and lake; and then access to the palace buildings. There are loads of domestic tourists as you get nearer the palace buildings and things can get a bit rowdy.

Otherwise the grounds itself are beautiful. Before exiting there are some buildings where Cixi used as offices and held court.

Tickets can be bought right at the entrance, we did not find it necessary to prebook.

Stunning palace with interesting history and lovely views. The boat ⛵ ride is fabulous ,you get to drive it yourself, and is definitely worth the price. Like the Forbidden city, this magnificent structure is also a hidden masterpiece of China 🇨🇳. I would recommend a visit.

Yuanmingyuan Park is a mesmerizing testament to China's rich history and the splendor of its imperial past. This park is an absolute treasure trove of cultural significance, offering a blend of scenic beauty and historical remnants that left me utterly captivated.

Walking through the vast grounds, I was enchanted by the remnants of ancient buildings, serene lakes, and carefully landscaped gardens. The park's layout beautifully combines elements of Chinese and Western architectural influences, creating a unique and awe-inspiring atmosphere.

Exploring the ruins, particularly the intricate European-style buildings and the majestic waterways, offered a glimpse into the opulence of the Qing Dynasty. The juxtaposition of Eastern and Western design elements within the same space was truly intriguing and added depth to the historical narrative.

The park's ambiance is serene and contemplative, providing a perfect setting for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. It's a place where one can appreciate the fusion of art, architecture, and nature while reflecting on the significance of the artifacts and the stories they hold.

While some structures lay in ruin, the remains evoke a sense of wonder and a poignant reminder of the park's rich history. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate, sharing stories that brought the park's past to life.

For anyone seeking a profound connection to China's imperial history, Yuanmingyuan Park is an absolute must-visit. It's a place that not only preserves history but also sparks curiosity and imagination about a bygone era.

Very beautiful ancient palace over 300 years old. Regardless of old sad stories, this place is worth visiting. The environment is so good and gave relaxing vibes. The lake was human made and it was so big.

Impressive relic site of previous summer palace of Qing dynasty. Destroyed by British and French army during second opium war in 1860.
The place was so beautiful, during our visit it was really crowded (weekend) and hot Summer time in Beijing. There are so many sightseeing in this place, mostly related to the emperor's history, prepare yourself because the path is climbing the stairs until top level, on the top you can see the lake view, the bridge and city view. Bought the entrance fee through online around RMB 60.

This park is especially beautiful in autumn. It’s very close to the subway. But normally in autumn when is the leaves turn yellow it will be full of people. So if you want to go here and take beautiful pictures you should go before 8 o’clock in the morning. Normally in high season, they would ask you to book ticket one day before you go. It’s always check this problem before you decide to visit how this park.

So called largest bell in the world. Very nice place to visit and educational but you can't knock the bell. Should visit on a big snow day.

This is a tip of Taihang mountain range. A perfect place to overlook the northwest part of Beijing downtown. Even more when the air quality is acceptable. Lots of celebrity writings and trails. Cheap admission fee but you need to pay more for the parking. The parking space is to the south of the gate.

Although most of the structures have been destroyed, but this is a place that everyone should visit.
Looking at the ruins, you can only imagine how glorious this place was and see the brilliance of the architect, engineer and the workmanship.

There's nothing we can do about it being destroyed by the war, we can only hope the stolen artifices will be returned to where it belongs.
Hopefully one day, we don't have to see those items in another country's museum.

For those who are planning to visit this amazing park, please be prepared to walk for long hours. If you can, spend some fun time in the maze. My kids really enjoyed it.

There is no restaurant in the park, but you can get some snacks and instant noodles in the souvenior shop.

The park operates until quite late at night, but I won't advise to stay on unless you are familiar with the places, equipped with GPS or have a torch light with you.

The last time I visited this park was in 2015. Lucky me, I saw black swans back then. This time I was not so lucky; perhaps there were too many motor boats operating on the lake.

Nevertheless, Yuan Ming Yuan will always had a place in my memories due to its imperfection. Maybe we all need to lose sometime before we know how to appreciate it.

It's a 1.2 km walk (20 min) from exit A of the National Library metro station on line 4 or 9. The museum is located inside of the Wanshou Temple (Temple of Longevity). The museum is small and can be quickly viewed in less than an hour. The permanent exhibits are organized well and display a few English signs. The collection is sparse with a few examples on enamels, jade carving, lacquer ware carving, ivory carving, and wood carving. There's is also a temporary exhibit on Liaonan shadow puppet theater with no English details.

The temporary exhibit is housed in a center building that is labeled "Beijing Art Museum Gallery". The permanent exhibits are housed along the outer buildings with no English signs to distinguish them from general rooms. Just poke your head in to find the rooms, the folks in the rooms will just shake their heads if you entered incorrectly.

Also, that bathrooms are squatters. Just yucky.

The entrance ticket includes admittance to the temple. On Wednesdays, the first 200 visitors are free. Otherwise 20 RMB for adults.
