My daughters loved playing on the playground and running around the field. There were lots of places for me to sit back and watch them play. The only thing that would make it better is a bathroom.
Wonderful place to walk, meditate, jog, walk, take pictures, have a picnic, or just sit and chill. Short walk to many stores and restaurants. Easy access to the greenbelt and Boise river. Rental scooters and bikes everywhere.
We make an annual visit to the Fall Flights and I highly recommend you do the same! It's an incredible learning experience and so fun too. For fans of raptors, or those on the fence, you'll find it hard to not want to get invested in protecting these vital parts of the ecosystem.
Outstanding experience! I learned so much from the very knowledgeable and kind volunteers and to be able to see such amazing birds so up close and in person was mind blowing! Definitely recommended 5 stars.
Not a very big zoo, but also very small places where the animals have to live. I’ve been here this year in October. The people working here are very friendly. Great communication and very friendly.
The animals don’t look very happy, but there are some great animals to see. Most of them were inside, 50% I could not see with my own eyes. They did not have much space. The bear is a $5 fee to feed it and see it.
We were finished with watching in about 1-2 hours.

We embraced the rhythms, colors, and flavors of Hispanic Heritage Day at Idaho Botanical Garden! What better backdrop than this blue sky, foothills and foliage!
We loved this park. We had a great time here playing fetch with our dog, walking around the park, and the beautiful Rose Garden. Thete is also the Zoo just a few walks from the Rose Garden.
This is an incredible experience. We did the live raptor demonstration, and it was definitely an experience. If you are even remotely interested in birds of prey I'd highly recommend visiting.
Incredible garden. Some things not to miss are zone 2 landscapes and natural area, the tree house/fort, the koi pond and the English garden. Definitely would recommend visiting if your in Boise.
Very cool. Amazing history and tons of great info. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. If you go to Boise this is a must see! Highly recommend the historic prison tour also- you won't regret spending the extra 8$. 5 stars all the way!

My friend and I had a blast and also a sobering experience at the site and exploration of the execution area. Personal i am not one for the death penalty and this visit concreted the for me.

Extraordinary exhibit going on right now by Jacob Hashimoto, until January. Highly highly HIGHLY recommend going to see his beautiful pieces in their full, overwhelming, glory.
This was a great museum and exhibit of the Old Penitentiary. They had a vast amount of history, including statements on a video from old inmates. Some of the stories were horrific though. There were artifacts, photos and written history, as well as walking through some of the old cells. It was very interesting. Employees are very polite and friendly. There is also a gift shop. There is another museum called the J Curtis Earl Weapons Exhibit, on the same grounds and it is FREE (or included in the price). This museum is also very interesting. It contains information, photos, artifacts, uniforms, videos and weapons from several American wars, including: Spanish American War, World War I, World, World War II.
I've been to many other museums that are bigger and more interesting, many of them free. From the minute I walked in with my three kids (ages 13, 11, and 8), we were followed by an employee who had nothing better to do than hound us and tell us what not to do.
Water bottle? Not allowed. Pictures? Not allowed. He even asked my youngest, who was very careful to not touch any of the artwork, to not touch the WALL.

We loved our time at the Boise Zoo! The entry fee is reasonable, but the parking is a little tricky, so you have to be prepared to walk to the zoo from a bit of distance. We loved that they had signs posted to help educate you about the wildlife and the environments they come from. The animals were all fairly active around mid day, and they were a joy to observe. Would happily come back here again!
I was honestly extremely surprised by the variety of art exhibited in this museum. Who know Boise had so much to offer? Very nicely curated as well, staff is very friendly and prices accessible.
Boise Zoo offers a delightful experience for visitors of all ages. With a diverse range of animals and well-maintained exhibits, it provides an intimate setting to learn about wildlife. The educational programs are engaging, making it both fun and informative. A perfect spot for a family outing in Boise.
I'm a historian and I did not expect much of this place. I was so wrong. The exhibits and interpretation at the Old Idaho Penitentiary Museum are superb. You learn about the people who were imprisoned, how they were treated, and how they tried to build lives behind the walls. One of the best museums I've ever visited.
Great artwork . Good place, take kids get interested in arts.
They are on fall hours. Only open sat and sun. They should do a better job of updating Google maps. It's what most use
Who knew Boise was home to an international movement to preserve Peregrine Falcons and other endangered birds? You'll learn this and more plus if you catch one of the shows, you'll see live birds that can't adapt to the wild being cared for. It's heart warming and eye opening , don't miss it.
One of my absolute favorite parks in Boise! The trees are huge and beautiful and they create wonderful shade on a sunny day. Centrally located next to Zoo Boise, the museum and BSU. A walk on the path next to the river is beautiful and peaceful. Every year our church has a ginormous picnic followed by baptism in the river. This year we expected about 60 people getting baptized, there were hundreds. what an experience!
I arrived at 4:30pm and there was a "closed" sign in the window. Their website states last admission at 4. I walked the grounds which were interesting. Perhaps inside the visitors center gives more context... but the Warden's house, prison walls, woman's prison and barns/gardens in back are photogenic and free to walk.
went to outlaw fields for the boygenius show and it was beautiful! also amazing to go during the winter when they have their christmas light shows.

Super cool place to visit. This place is free and run by volunteers so please donate if you can when you visit. We had a great time, the staff were very nice.
We bought our tickets online and then paid for the tour in person to see what times they have. We are glad we bought the tour and highly recommend it. It is really affordable for all of the information we heard. Danielle was our guide and she was amazing, she had lots of cool facts and answered all of our questions.
Fun time. Plenty of shaded area along the path to help with the heat! Cool kids play area giant giraffe slide and little animal statues to climb. Giraffe feeding was fun! Seemed like a quarter of the animals were either no longer here or just put away. Good value for your buck! Monkeys came in clutch like they always do with a good show! Clean bathrooms and overall clean zoo!
A fantastic wealth of information and fun -- especially if you rock hound. Coyote was wonderful as were all of the staff. It's a small museum with a great wealth of information.
Lots of fun! Half an hour is plenty of time to go around the pond and coo at all the ducks and wildlife. Be prepared to get a small leg workout!
This is a wonderful park with walk/bike trails and good access. The only view of the Boise river is at a bridge. Great way to get some exercise on a Sunday morning.
This place was great the volunteers were helpful and very experienced. I believe it was Julie who had 900 hours which was impressive until we meet someone with 1500 hours needless to say they enjoy it.
Honestly it was very nice my only complaint is that the facility is a bit small and most of the birds are indoors. Unlike the condors (picture attached) the peregrine falcon is my favorite bird of prey so it was nice too see it and I would probably go back. Price seems a bit steep for what is there but they do alot for conservation so they say, which makes it more worth it.
All in all, it was a very nice experience.

This is one of the nicest bird sanctuaries that I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. The overall exhibit is amazing and the must-see falconry demonstrations are world class. Add in the incredible Falconry Archives Museum and it is just a fascinating experience for lovers of Birds of Prey, or just birds and nature, in general. Kudos to your efforts and your knowledgeable, helpful and awesome staff.
They gave us an extra 10 mins for an hour that we paid for & we pretty much used all the time will be going again was a great work out
A fun thing to do on an afternoon in Boise. Situated right near downtown in a large park, this zoo isn't too big, but it still has interesting things to see and do. We enjoyed the otters, capybaras, and large birds that were there. You may want to think about the weather when visiting because many of the animals were sleeping or taking shelter in the 95+ degree heat of our visit. You can see basically everything in the zoo in an hour or so, so you don't need to plan for a super long visit.
Beautiful park!! Highly recommend renting the electric scooters and cruising around all the trails. Worth every penny! So much to do here. Saw people out paddle boarding, kayaking, walking, running, swimming, fishing, biking, picnicking, even wake-surfing! Such a pretty place with giant trees, river views, green grass and views to spare.
This was a great visit. We had an elderly client with us with healing head and face burns. This zoo had lots of trees and shade areas for us to walk and relax before the real heat of the day started. It was near 100 for the highs that day but we got a solid two hours in before we had to leave from the heat.
I'm not a big fan of birds but this place almost converted me. The outdoor show is as up-close as you get, with birds dragging their feathers across your head as they fly over. Great variety of birds and demonstrations. Staff was clearly devoted to the cause. I think kids would think it both cool and scary and fascinating, so they'd be talking about it for days afterward. Price is family-friendly, too. Highly recommended.
I love the Idaho Botanical Garden as a venue. I have seen a lot of great shows there. The show on the 14th of July was a slight departure from my usual experience. The music playlist chosen prior to Big Head Todd was fantastic. Whoever chose that playlist deserves to be commended. Awesome job! Big Head Todd and the Monsters were great!! Excellent music, good crowd connection, great guitar work by Todd. The headliner was Blues Traveler, who I love; however, their live show was a jumble and kind of mushed together. They played a resonable version of Last Dance With Mary Jane, but people were being didappointed and started leaving early. I don't think I would go to another Blues Traveler show, but I would absolutelt see Big Head Todd and the Monsters again!
Beautiful place for a gathering. We saw Opera in the Park at the Gene Harris bandshell. Sound was fabulous, the people were so relaxed and happy. Even the kids had a good time.
Bathrooms were just behind the berm of the grass amphitheater. Very clean. No towels but there was soap and water.
And as always in Boise, the trees were magnificent and provided alot of shade.

This was my 1st time visiting the Center and I am so impressed! What a Gorgeous place ! They put on live Talks -scheduled several times a day. Stephanie is the Curator and she's the Woman in my photo. Stephanie told us a lot of valuable information about Vultures and Birds of Prey plus showed us Lucy & Oliver ! Lucy is the Turkey Vulture & Oliver is the African Owl. If one enjoys Birds and want to see unusual ones this place is a Must -See !
Pretty cool little free museum. Kinda tucked into the old Penitinteray. I liked the interactive display showing what minerals are in the make up of our house.
An easily accessible and well-kept grounds that used to be part of the prison gardens! Great place to see as a new person to the area or visitor. We enjoyed an iced tea from Zero Six Coffee Fix right down the road as we walked around the ever-forking paths of the property!
I love going to the botanical gardens especially when we've had a lot of rain. I love to see all the different flowers, trees, and plants. I especially love the English garden area.

Every time I travel places I have to visit the Botanical Gardens. I had a great time here. Went on June 8th, the weather was perfect. I could spend the whole day here. So relaxing! We got the double pass where you can visit the Botanical Gardens and the Old Idaho Penitentiary good savings
We did the self guided tour. It was fascinating and some great history here. The Rose Garden was beautiful. Be sure to check out the J. Curtis Earl Memorial Exhibit. Great information in there, too. On my next visit, I will do the guided tour.
Pretty cool place! Took my bf here for his first art museum and he loved it! Really pretty. Small enough that you don’t need to spend a whole afternoon there, but large enough to be able to spend at least 2-3 hours there, depending on your appreciation for art. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Boise.
I was very disappointed. After paying for the museum, we were told half of the museum wasn't open, including the sculpture garden. We were also told we couldn't take pictures. My eagerness to see the place became very deflated. The place was mediocre at best. I would never go back. I've never been to an art museum where I was not allowed to take pictures to share with my family after returning from a trip. I don't know why this place thinks their stuff is so sacred. It's just nothing special, and I don't have any photos to share to promote this place.
This was a nice little museum about Idaho Black History went with my Dad, niece, and nephew. We enjoyed talking to Phillip Thompson, Board of Director/President of the museum, on June 9th. He was very friendly and gave us some great informative information as we walked through the museum. Check it out when you're in the area. Also, check the times it's open before arriving.
As a first-time visitor, I was not super impressed when I first walked in - but the gardens really don't get going until you get past the open concert field and up to the hillside. Then it's wonder on wonder in a series of small gardens, like a walled English garden, a kid's play garden, desert plants, native plants, all sorts. The woman who sold me my ticket recommended a way to go and she was right - once you get to the main part, with the bathrooms and gift shop on your right and the English garden to your left, sort of head to the right up the hill, make your way to the top, and walk down a small "back way" trail to the firewise garden. To do this, make sure you find the Lewis & Clark trail, which zig zags all the way up the hill. Once you finally reach the top (it's long!) there's a Sacagawea statue - walk up some stone step behind that to access the trail. But any way you visit, it's going to take some wandering around to see everything.

The weather was perfect and the scenery was amazing with lots of Canadian Geese, Mallard and Wood Ducks along with LOTS of goslings & ducklings as well.
We took our pup out on the water and she loved it too!

I've been to the zoo many times, and it's a great experience every time. I love the events they have, and just seeing all the animals is a ton of fun. I wish they had more food options, but I typically get dip and dots, which is a little on the expensive side. The penguins and monkeys are always my favorite to see, and I love going through the gift shop on my way out.
Definitely a smaller-scale zoo, but many of the enclosures are very attractive/high quality, especially around the African areas. (Some others, less so.) I will say that the animals almost always have a space away from the public and sometimes you can't see them, so it pays to make a few passes during your visit (I never saw the tiger or snow leopard, and only the sloth bear on a second pass. The red pandas were hard to find.) Just as often, they are right inside the glass, so you can be essentially right next to them. I had fun watching an otter and the sloth bear this way for quite a bit. I do wish they'd clean the windows more often - they're almost hard to see through they're so dirty.

Lovely restored little church with lots of informational signs, roughly in chronological order starting on your right as you walk in. Fantastically great portrait of MLK and a really great mural above the entry, too. Lots of QR codes to read more information on several topics, and it a little broader than just African American history - one about Idaho's "area 51" is a lot of fun.

Boise park standards are pretty high. This is a run of the mill meh park with the tiniest public pool. Sweet swings though!
It was a great experience and completely worth the $2 additional for the guided tour. The guides are highly knowledgeable and have some great stories about the penitentiary and some of the former "guests".
The unrelated historical weapons display and tour is fantastic. All donated by a private collector, there's everything from colonial days through Vietnam. There are some really rare pieces in the collection. Worth a visit.

My entire Latin class had a picnic there! There was tons of shade and open space! We had a lot of fun!
Stopped by here with some minerals buddies and we enjoyed it quite a bit. Lots of good geology information and even some oldies but goodies like the minerals in your life display that had asbestos in your walls.
Nice little neighborhood park. Tennis court, hoops, and play ground equipment. We go there for our son's soccer practice and there's plenty of space for multiple teams to practice at once.
Wonderful homeschool field trip! So many hands-on learning opportunities! A little bit of everything - earthquakes, prehistoric geography, fossils, gems & minerals, rock cycles, rock formation and mining history. The volunteers were great about answering our questions and sharing their knowledge with us. Looking forward to getting together a group of homeschoolers next year and doing the guided tour! Free admission. Limited hours/days of operations, so checking their website before you go would be a good idea. Highly recommend!
Loved this place! So many amazing artifacts and rocks. This is a kids dream come true. It is also an adults dream come true if you love to Rockhound and or prospect. Well worth every moment.

My grandpa and I decided to go to the Boise Art Museum (or BAM) for some rare one-on-one time together. We had a great time! The main two artists had a bunch of mind blowing art pieces that are easily one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Hurry down to the art museum soon if you want to see some beautiful and unique art!
It's in a great location of downtown Boise. They also have accessible ramps. The gift shop is small, not too much room for a wheelchair to go in. Overall, it was not a bad visit.
Pool, playground and big field for football, soccer, and ultimate Frisbee. Birderedcbybroad on two sides and the parking lot is pretty small.
Dogs love this place...make a Dogs Day!!
Bucolic location for any event - attended a funeral service here - very peaceful - could seat as many as a hundred people at stationary square picnic style tables. Electrical, but no wifi, so bring a phone that you can tether if you want internet.
I grew up playing in this park. It brings me such joy being able to bring my son and niece/nephews here to play too. The new remodel is beautiful 💕
We tried paddle boating and it was my first time. It is located within Julia Davis Park past the zoo. It was hot to go today, July 29th, at 11am. The seats not that comfortable and if you have long legs, do not pick seat to left, otherwise, have to bend right knee certain way because of metal steering wheel "not comfortable". The guy was nice and helped to keep boat steady to get off and on. I recommend if go time of year when we did pocket fan and water. The scenery was beautiful and we saw quite a few ducks. Overall, we had alot of fun.
Its a very small park, its for children. Okay just to take your dog for a walk. But be sure to bring your dog poopie bags. I always carried a poopie bags for my dog. I might not come back to this one. The winstead park is much better.
Very beautifully emotionally, I am hoping everyone has a chance to visit the Idaho Black History Museum 😀💜 Was very blessed to have a chance to eat lunch and visit inside I can't wait to go back with my mom and son!

I feel bad for giving this park a lower rating. If it weren't for the pre-teen/teens yelling curse words with no respect or regard to the young children playing or the fact everyone of them are disrespectful to the area, throwing and leaving trash 😡 - it'd be a really nice park, with great shade areas along with a little picnic table area. The grass is always kept well and the area is a good spot.

One of my fave parks in Boise. Tons of shade and can have your own space. Never have seen it overcrowded. The bathrooms are nice and we'll kept. Good park to go and relax. Enjoy a book in the shade.
It was closed both times I went but thank you Boise for having a Black history museum here even though it's just a few Blacks here. But I was still able to walk outside and read the posts that were there. The ground are kept nicely and the huge Abraham Lincoln (who most likely was a Black man contrary to what "history" states) statute that's nearby is just phenomenal.
I liked stopping by the park during my free time from work, but on two occasions I've had problems with the locals. One time I noticed a man taking pics of my car and when I asked what he was doing, he told me I didn't need to be at that park, since I have 6B license plates, why am I at that park? I couldn't believe it! Then just recently I was sitting there eating my lunch and looking at my computer and then I get 2 police officers knocking on my car window, I rolled down my window and started getting questioned by officer's as to what I was doing. I told them and asked what the problem was and I was told someone called in on me because I looked suspect. I know I don't have the nicest car and might not blend in, but I wasn't doing anything but sitting in my car and I suspect a local woman called in about me. Do they not realize it's a public park for EVERYONE, not just local visitors? People like them are the problem in this world.
Small place, but very cool! Looking at the exhibits gives you a small sense of what the African- Americans went through, unfortunately even today. The docent was very knowledgeable about the museum and the treatment of the African- Americans in Idaho .

This is a smaller park on Ustick Rd. and it's a great place to go play tennis,or bring your children and dogs, or to just hang out and relax. There are bathrooms that are clean and private and it's a nice, safe park for kid's and adults!
Julia Davis Park is an 89.4 acre park which was created in 1907 and located along the Boise River. The park contains a Rose Garden, the Boise Zoo, Boise Paddle Boat Rental, a Tennis court, a toddler playground, picnic pavilions and several museums. The friendship bridge connects the park with Boise State University.
This park provides access to the Boise River Greenbelt. The scenic view that the park provides is the main attraction. The rose garden has a pavilion where anyone can arrange an event only by reservation. There is a sitting Abraham Lincoln statue adjacent to Rose garden.

It's not very large, but then again I don't think Idaho has had a lot of black people in its history.
This park is pretty great. The equipment is more for older children 5+ but it doesn't stop my 3 year old one from playing on it and having fun. In the next couple months they are going to build a picnic shelter and a new sidewalk on the outside of the park.
A definite must see when coming to Boise, I am of the belief that all people from any walk of life or ethnic backgrounds should visit such an important and Vidal part of the American historical experience.
What a "Gem" of a museum! Very good interactive displays. Very knowledgeable staff. If you are interested in Idaho beauty and history, local geology, and our rich history of mining, meteorites, and a member built seismometer, this place is a must see!
The parking size is perfectly suited for a normal day use besides what would you like more park or more parking
Just FANTASTIC !!! Incredible graphics in several different media*, they show the hills, Mountains, Valley's, plateaus and faults, in ways that reveal how Idaho came to be what it is today. Rich in history, there is information on the early miners (including women miners), the incredible Wealth taken from the Earth's crust, even Earthquakes and how crust "movements" have changed the surrounding areas. *In addition to a huge wall map that shows the state in bold 3D Relief, there is an Excellent touch-screen display that goes from an overview, down to incredible detail on each of the mining districts and individual mines (with great old pictures of the buildings, people and equipment they used). The docents were very knowledgeable and great at sharing their wealth of knowledge !!! All this and Free admission !!!!
I've been going to this park since I was a little girl. This is my favorite park because of its large shade trees, ponds, paddle boats, ducks, and geese. The Boise River runs right next to it with bike paths. the Boise art museum, band shell, rose garden, playgrounds, the Idaho Historical museum, and Zoo Boise. There's also other events held here like "Art in the Park", with vendors and food trucks. The park always provides plenty of Porta-pottys and information booths. There are plenty of parking areas and shuttles provided for special events. I feel safe when I visit. It's a great place to spend the day.
