Merkez Park (English: Central Park) is a 33-hectare (82-acre) urban park that is located on both banks of the Seyhan River in Adana. The larger portion of the park, 30 hectares (74 acres), is on the west bank.

Type: Urban park
Location: Adana, Turkey
Coordinates: 36°59′44″N 35°20′06″E
Area: 33 ha (82 acres)
Created: 2004
Operated byAdana Metropolitan Municipality
Status: Open all year

Merkez Park starts just north of Sabancı Mosque and extends north to Galleria Shopping Mall. On the west of the park there is Fuzuli Street. On the east bank, the park starts north of the Sheraton Hotel (under construction) and extends north to the Acqualand Entertainment Center. On the east, the park is bordered with Hacı Sabancı Boulevard. Sinanpaşa and Yavuzlar footbridges connect both sections of the park.

A large portion of the area of the west bank of today's Merkez Park was a citrus garden. South of the garden, there was a neighborhood of shanty homes. At the very south, just north of D-400 State road, there was the Central Bus Terminal on the river side, and the Archaeology Museum (which is still there) and a gas station on the street side. North of the garden up to the old dam, was a reserve land for floods which used to happen frequently until the 1950s. On the east bank, there was a neighborhood of shanty homes and a large area of vacant land.

The idea to create a large urban park on the banks of the Seyhan River was first included in the city plan in 1988 by the mayor, Aytaç Durak. Named Merkez Park, it was planned to be built in an area from north of D-400 State road to the old dam. The project was presented to the public at the art gallery of the Municipal Hall. The first step to take was to relocate the Central Bus Terminal which was just north of D-400 State road. The Central Bus Terminal was moved to the west end of the city.

At the 1989 local elections, Selahattin Çolak was elected mayor, and he reversed the project. Although river banks are zoned as construction-free areas by laws, a large shopping mall was approved for the area just south of the Demirköprü bridge. On the area north of Demirköprü, Selahattin Çolak built a large amphitheater, named Mimar Sinan Amphitheater.

Footbridge over the Seyhan River, connecting the two sections of the park
At the 1994 local elections, Aytaç Durak was elected mayor for a second term. He had to modify the original plan of Merkez Park due to the constructions in the project area. The modified project resumed by re-zoning the neighborhood within the project area. There were around 100 homes in the area and demolition of the homes started in 1998. During this period, the Sinanpaşa footbridge was built to connect both banks of the Seyhan River. Sabancı Mosque, at the corner of Seyhan bridge, was completed in 1998.
Before the construction of Merkez Park, a citywide recreational pathway was completed on both banks of the Seyhan River. Park construction started by building the major pathway of the park from Galleria to Sabancı Mosque. Citrus trees were completely removed and converted into multi-functional green areas. The gas station next to the Archaeology Museum was moved to another location and the park was extended towards Sabancı Mosque. An underground car park was built at the area between Sabancı Mosque and the museum. The ground was set as green area. The construction of the west bank of the park was fully completed in 2008.

Merkez Park is well landscaped and carries a wide variety of trees and plants in an open concept. There are 67 species of trees and bushes, 40 species of cactuses, aromatic and ground covering plants. The number of total plants exceed 400 thousand. Some of the plants that were brought from Italy are shaped as animal figures. Within the park there are 12 ponds and a 2.2-hectare (5.4-acre) playground for children incl

Büyük Saat (English: The Great Clock Tower) is a historical clock tower in Adana, rising 32 m (105 ft) high. [1] The tower symbolizes the modernization of the city.
This is one of the greatest and beautiful mosque what I had ever seen! It's the second largest mosque in Turkey. There’re amazing views all around and exciting views inside.

Built in 1882, the Historical Great Clock Tower, one of the oldest symbols of Adana, was built to notify the people of the region of the beginning of working hours and 5 times prayer times. As of 2024, the Historical Great Clock Tower, which is 142 years old, still preserves the splendor of the first day.
It is one of the most important symbols of Adana, it has a fascinating structure and unique architecture, the Seyhan River flows past me, it is surrounded by the central park, which is a huge natural beauty, and it is one of the distinguished mosques that everyone should come and see.
If you are coming to the Mosque after seeing Taş köprü there is shortcut, an underground passage to the mosque but the passage stinks with urine and filth. You can make a bigger loop and pass through a traffic lights which are a bit far. But if you go through the underground passage the smell is terrible. Looks like an abandoned place. If you can bear the smell you can pass through it fast and reach the beautiful mosque that is worth visiting. I think municipal authorities should pay attention to this.
Gorgeous mosque. Incredibly ornate architecture. Great experience.

Adana Ulu Camii, a grand historical mosque located in the heart of Adana, is a testament to the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the region. Constructed in 1541, this mosque forms part of a complex that includes a madrasah and a mausoleum. Its unique architecture and intricate stonework make it stand out among other historical sites in the city. The mosque's proximity to the market and other landmarks like the old clock tower, Taskopru, and Sabanci Mescid, enhances its appeal for visitors. Additionally, the area is bustling with cafes and shops, adding to the lively atmosphere around the mosque.

The Ulu Camii complex is not just a place of worship but also a serene spot for relaxation and contemplation. Its courtyard, opposite the medressa, is a peaceful place where one can sit and enjoy Turkish tea. The marble courtyard and the mosque's interior, with its ceramic cladding, add to its beauty, though some may find the mosque not as astonishing compared to other historical mosques. Nevertheless, the mosque's blend of Seljuk and Ottoman architectural styles, and its part outdoor and part indoor structure, provide a unique experience.

Visitors appreciate the mosque's neat architecture and its historical significance. However, some may feel that while it is a beautiful site, it doesn't offer an overwhelming sense of grandeur. Overall, the Adana Ulu Camii is a beautiful, peaceful, and historically significant site that is definitely worth a visit when in Adana

A beautiful park in Adana where you can spend time. It used to be a much sweeter park but now it has become a bit ordinary. I recommend daytime for those who want to visit and spend time. It may not be safe in the evening. I haven't had any problems so far, but I don't recommend it because of a few incidents I heard about.
Ich war sehr schön und fasziniert von dem was ich gesehen habe. Unbeschreiblich schön. Da muss man gewesen sein. Ich kann es nicht mit Worten beschreiben. Kann ich jedem empfehlen.
It was a very cute city with a miniature version of a clock tower. BüyükSaat basically meant a big watch in Turkish which actually made sense. But the old town around the tower was very cute with a lot of food options that were cheap and really good.
Beautiful place to chill and picture some great views

I would give it 5, if there was an english translation. But the place is amazing you will see attaturk’s furniture and many items he used to use. It has a small garden used as a coffee shop. It is near the cinema museum. Must visit when in adana

Pretty park in the heart of Adana. Nice paths to walk, but the area are not shaded (perhaps because the trees are not that tall?) so it can be very hot during summer days.

It's a very big park where families with children can have a peaceful time. There is a beautiful mosque in the park. There is underground parking for cars.
Nice place so far, but very crowdy in the evening and lots of scooters making quite "good" noise. The Mosque is breathtaking from the park view
The mosque is big and beauty. Also clean, you have to go and see there.
This was one of my favorite places in Adana. I walked around for a while in this park. It’s clean, and it feels really safe in contrast to the historical centre. There are many great spots for pictures in this park.
This was my first visit to Adana. I explored the historical area around the clock tower, however the area near to this mosque was my favorite. It’s a big complex, the mosque it’s among the biggest most I’ve visited I. Türkiye. It’s supposed to be the biggest mosque between Istanbul and Saudi Arabia. The park around this mosque was my favorite place to walk in Adana.
If you are flying to Adana, take a cab to the clock tower and start your city center journey from here. I spent a couple of hours in this area until I had to take my bus to Mersin later in the afternoon. There are a lot of food options, souvenir shops, it’s really close to the old stone bridge. If you like walking it will take you around 15 minutes from here to visit Adana’s biggest mosque at the other side of the D-400. It’s supposed to be te biggest mosque between Istanbul and Saudi Arabia.
It is a very big and beautiful mosque, there were even guests who filmed documentaries from England during my visit.

Nice place, located in the old center next to the old mosque and hammam. But usual there are a lot of cars are parking around the tower and it spoils the view.
Good place for walking. There are beautiful views and nice installations.

Very beautiful mosque with awesome design and beautiful decorations. Very large interior and exterior surrounding yard. There is a huge park outside the mosque that has many activities for families and children. The mosque is also right on the river and a short walk from the old city.

A beautiful place to view or pray. The locals were nice and respectful. Just being inside such an old place makes you realize the deep history of the area.
This magnificent building besides being an icon of the city of Adana, is also the first largest mosque in Turkey until 2019. It has 6 minarets with a large garden around it. Really beautiful place.

It’s a nice stop for a landmark. There are some shops for souvenirs and all. Worth visiting but it’s not a must.
It’s a lovely park with some water fountains and plenty of benches. The location is perfect it’s close to the stone bridge and the mosque. It’s perfect for a picnic or just a hang out.
Nice and clean place. Great mosque for dimension! It is very seem to blue mosque (Istanbul) but here is very calm. There is very nice area (Merkez Park) near the mosque.

Grand Mosque was built by Ramazanoğlu Halil Bey in 1513. In 1541, the mosque was expanded and restored by Piri Mehmet Pasha. Seljuk, Mameluk and Ottoman architectural characteristics can be observed in the mosque. Grand Mosque has 4 parts: Shrine, main prayer place, yard and the old rectangular building in the west. A shrine with a dome on top of it was built in the east of the mosque in 1508. The madrassah was built accordingly with the classical Ottoman Madrassah plan on the order of Ramazanoğlu Piri Paşa in 1540.

Great Mosque is an ancient 16th-century mosque in Adana, Turkey, located besides the Ramazanoglu Hall on Kizilay street. Construction of the mosque was started in 1513 and was completed in 1541. The building of the mosque was affected in 1998 by an earthquake and then was restored in 2004. The design of the building represents the ancient Ottoman architecture. Beautiful minarets display the influence of Mamluk art, in which the exterior is decorated with attractive two colored stones. The mosque has an ancient great Madrassah in its east, which is beautifully decorated in Ottoman architecture.

it's very beautiful when you get inside there's a tranquillity of spiritual power.
It got all facilities which keeps human's basic needs satisfactory such as free WC and cheaper markets.
Yilmaz Guney is a film legend in Turkey and is also from Adana. However, Adana's contribution to Turkish cinema and art is not limited to Yılmaz Güney.
There are so many artists from Adana, when you visit this museum, you will have made a nostalgic trip in our history of cinema.

Adana Grand Mosque was built by Emirate Halil in the 16th century during the Ramazanoğlu Emirate.
The mosque shows the Egyptian Memluk, Turkish Seljuk and Ottoman architectural features.
Until the end of the 20th century, Before the Sabancı Central Mosque was built that remained the largest mosque in Adana.
