Westmoreland is a lovely place for a hike. Well marked trails. Lots of roots and stones! Birds, turtles, toads. A lake. Plenty of parking
Lovely property with many interlocking, undulating trails. Our April hike was very muddy and a bit buggy--waterproof hiking boots and a trekking pole are recommended!
Easy parking. Trails are easy to find. If you are doing the larger loop, prepare for 4-5 hour hike.

At the top of trails you simply are mesmerized by the 360 degree views.
A great place to hike. They have different trail segments that are interconnected and at each location there is a map that lets you see where you are. There are also HOME signs that let you know how to return to the parking lot.

A small, hilly patch of land with sort of weird vibrations, feels like a space might be considered sacred in another time -- probably my imagination.

Beautiful area to walk the trails by yourself, with friends, with your kids, or with your dog. There are benches and picnic tables around the property. Turkeys and Deer are often seen in the fields are red-tailed hawks fly overhead.

Beautiful nature preserve. What a blessing to witness nature in all its unspoilt glory.

Great place to go. Truly a hidden gem! The Mrs loved this one and so will yours

Just be careful if your route getting there is by the lake/reservoir as it's gravel for a couple miles (side note: Also a nice vista, we almost stopped the car there instead!).
Driveway into parking area is also uneven so have a vehicle with good tires and clearance

So first of all this is not the right address or location for the trailhead. There is a sign here that says Marsh Sanctuary and a little house with maps etc., but the real trailhead is on the other side, I'm not actually sure which road it is. This side runs through a backyard kind of, and this map makes it appear that the trail is the neighbor's semi-abandoned driveway. Either way though, lovely little, obscure trail, with a pond, benches, lanterns, and a little amphitheater.
Short hike. Not sure of distance. Flat woods hike. Good for what it is. 3 spaces for parking on wood chips. No restroom. No portOjohn.

The Merestead is a an absolute gorgeous 130 acre estate located in Mount Kisco, New York.

The Merestead was once the private country estate of 20th century business executive, William Sloan and prominently features his beautiful neo-Georgian mansion.

In May of 2021, I brought myself and wife for a visit of the Merestead and we both enjoyed viewing and taking pictures of the estate’s scenic countryside, its historic mansion and exploring the vast network of forest based trails.

The Merestead is a wonderful attraction and both my wife and I highly recommend that everyone take time to visit and stroll through this magnificent estate!!!

This place is my sanctuary! I have lived in NYC for 5 years and have explored many of the local preserves and this is one of my favorites mostly because the are no dogs allowed so you don't see dog poop everywhere like at Arthur Butler which is across the street. They also have a lot of great programs for both adult and kids and a nice little display in their main building.

I knew that I would have some time to kill in Mt. Kisco and found this sanctuary on Google Maps. The main entrance is on Sarles St and there is a much smaller one on S Bedford Rd that only has space for a few cars and it seems like you're parking in someone's private driveway. I parked in this area and walked through the woods to the main part of the sanctuary. Here you will find a nice pond, a few picnic tables and nice meadows. There is also a large vegetable garden of some sort, but the gate was locked. The climb to the top of the hill was steep, but there were some decent views at the top that will be obstructed when the leaves fill in. This is a great place for a nature stroll and to just enjoy some nature for a bit. Could make a good spot for a picnic too

Very beautiful old estate property. I took a tour of this place when it first opened. The house looked like some ghost family had just moved out. All of their things were still there. The park ranger even showed us the lady of the house's wedding lace! It was like a time capsule. Right now the house is undergoing an extensive renovation, but the trails are still open! Trails on the west side of Byram Lake Road are wooded and don't have views, but they are great in the summertime. I like to take my kids here, because (unlike a lot of hiking places), there's actually cell service! That way I can call for help if somebody turns an ankle, etc. The trails on the east side go up behind the house (you have to walk up the driveway). Up there, you're as high up as can be, and you can see miles and miles of rolling hills. You can experience Bedford like the billionaires do, for free! There are picnic tables at the top of the hill, if you and your family want to eat a snack.

Stumbled on this park while driving through the area. Very few people were here, it doesn't seem super busy. A few picnic tables around, good views.

Trails were quite well marked. Map was a little unclear as far as what colors the trails were blazed with.

Overall, honestly, a nice little area to walk around!
Nice trails. A little up and down.

It was a great place! The entry along Bedford is small - I would say about 4 cars can fit at any one time. We went along a gravel path behind the Marsh Sanctuary sign. A good distance up the hill, I met a lady with a cat who informed me that the direction I was heading was not part of the Sanctuary 🙈🙉🙊. It was a private road that led to a house on the hill. However, it looked so much part of a sanctuary. We had already taken photos up there 😁. She was really nice and said that it happens all the time. She informed us that there was a part of the Sanctuary on Sarles - a little further up going east on Bedford, so we headed there. Once there, I was awed by the sight of what was to come! We came across a garden that was chained up. Then we came across a pond. Headed further in and happened across a field that led up to the mountain 🏔️ top. Then we got the call that Olivia our 🐕 was ready to go home from the groomer. We'll be back another day!!!

Squishy grass & no animal poop...enjoy Grounding
Beautiful trail. Went on a Wednesday night at 5:30pm and the large parking lot was nearly empty. The well marked trails were a breeze to navigate. The Cole Nettles loop via Spruce Hill took just over an hour. Just don’t forget the insect repellent!

This park has potential, but it's not there yet. Though the park is open daily (in theory), the gate to visitor parking was locked with a car parked in front of it. There were no park staff around we could see, though inside was one country truck. The trail map isn't easy to follow (we supplemented with GPS), the trails are poorly blazed and hard to locate, and the wooded paths are poorly maintained - very overgrown - bring tick spray. We had a hard time finding many of the points of interest, gave up, had a picnic on the lone bench up by back of the main house, which was also hard to get to (I repeat - poorly blazed trails). This park is carry in, carry out so make sure to bring a bag with you. With better trail maintenance, this old estate could be a little gem.

Beautiful trails with clear markers and maps throughout, making it easy to navigate and to know how long it will take to get where you're going. I love moss and mushrooms, and there were plenty of both to look at, even in winter. Parts of the trail have evergreens that make it feel like you're hiking in spring.
Great little sanctuary to take a short hike and look at the local flora and fauna around us every day in the Hudson valley.
This place is gorgeous! We came in fall in mid October just in time to see the fall foliage and it is spectacular here. Beautiful high and low paths that are color coded and fairly easy to follow. Some of the terrain is suited for experienced or mildly experienced hikers and the up hill slopes can get a little brutal but its definitely worth the trek to get to the high points. Amazing views and very tranquil. We didn't run into to many people along our hike. The park has its own parking lot and also its own park offices that have a nice clean restroom and also recycling for water bottles. Very well kept.
