Probably the best park in the area for general strolling around and nature walks.
You can get some good views and pictures strolling along the raised board walk area.
Small playground for the kiddies and a nice, small garden area which attracts lots of butterflies.

Ground is flat, easy for biking, shore is 1 mile away from the parking. Environmental center can view birds. It also has a small natural museum. Free events on weekends.
Scout Troop 36 community service project. The gem of the Ocean county parks. All types of trails, raised boardwalks, nature center, secluded beaches make this park unique. Been one of my favorites for a long time. Thanks troop 36 for taking care of her
Nice little park for young children. Swings , playground etc. Usually very clean. The township does a good job maintaining the parks. No bathrooms though besides some unsavory Porta potties
Great spacious place to take your dog, large or small. 2 separate fenced areas ( 1 for LG dogs & 1 for Sm dogs, let's your dog play safely with dogs their own size. Great playground for young children as well. Enjoy your time. Bring water & a bowl.

A hidden gem. Nestled in Holiday City South. Gaining popularity for its 2 softball fields, pickleball courts, doggie trails and picnic area. Plenty of parking and clean restrooms.plus playgrounds.
Cool spot for a sunrise..car show..lil fishing..but beware ..if you're there long enough you you'll see some crazy things happen..lol..plenty of parking.. 4 picnic benches with shade..and now restrooms..

There is a lot to explore here! There are beautiful views and good trails to explore, and some educational signs that help you understand some of the wildlife and the history. I tried to use their restroom, but I went on a federal holiday (New Year’s Day) so it was closed. It was also a little cold, and off-season, so, I don’t really blame the bathrooms for being closed. I really liked it a lot here, I definitely want to come back and explore more.
Beautiful park filled with some great activities for kids and adults! The bike trail is great, I also love the playgrounds and bathrooms are very clean. They have a great ball park as well for all types of baseball games, or kickball!
Read about it in the news paper and decided to check it out. One of the best dog parks around. Very clean. Great place for the family as well. So happy it’s close to home too.
Great place for visiting with the kids! We felt so welcomed here! It’s small but they have a presentation where you can touch and/or see up close 4 large insects 🕷️ highly recommend!

A nice location for a swap meet of the antique outboard motor club. Excellent facility. Plenty of parking, modern rest rooms. Nice pavilion.

Well maintained I even was there on. Rainy day but the serenity was there to enjoy fishing but a word of warning boats and jet skiers you can't fit under the bridge. The fishing is good though. Come for the many possible activities and learn the history too.
Lots of geese and geese poop other then that it’s a short walk by the Tom’s River. Scenery isn’t anything wow but well maintained and has some historical references that are nice to check out.
I love it, the only problem is the bathroom is covered with dirt and stuff. Hopefully we can get new bathrooms installed. And sometimes the swing ropes are broken (ITS BEING FIXED YAY)
Visited Insectropolis a few months back and it exactly as you might imagine. It's an insect museum. I was actually pretty surprised and the level of detail the exhibits have. My kids had a great time learning about insects and even getting to experience and touch some live insects. Just wish we would've visited when the bee exhibit was being held. We'll likely be back to see it. Great experience.

The new dog park at Whispering Pines is just TERRIBLE. There is no grass, just dirty mulch, no benches for people to sit while their dogs play, and absolutely NO shade as all the beautiful trees were cut down to make nothing more than a big dirty dog pen! Also, there needs to be TWO gates for safety so the dogs can't run out when another one enters. It is a disgrace, and very few people are using it. Let's get real and make it into a decent dog park that we can all enjoy!
I like this park a lot. One of my friends has lived in this park. It's a great place to suck down a few beers if one can do so without drawing attention to themselves.
Really unique and special museum concerning the history of Barnegat Bay sailboat racing and boatbuilding. Absolutely everything I hoped for - really neat history along with a current workshop for restorations and building boats. A must-see for any sailor in the area.
Such a great playground! Huge, clean and so much to do. My 3-year-old loved it. There is a huge parking lot, bathrooms and even a mist sprayer for really hot days. So happy we found this place.
Worst dog park I've ever been to. Put down mulch instead of grass, no trees, no benches, no water and no release date upon entry. Whoever designed this does not know anything about dogs
This place is perfect for spending a couple of hours with children. It has ample parking space and the entrance fee is highly affordable. To know their summer hours, you can either visit their website or make a phone call. The place is impeccably clean and well-organized. While most of the insects are exhibited with detailed information, there are also engaging interactive displays. Majority of the bugs are not alive, but you can observe some live ones. My family had a great time visiting, and seeing our grandkids enjoying themselves made it all worth it. Additionally, there is a presentation which was enthusiastically delivered by a knowledgeable lady. She brought three insects for everyone to see up close and even touch if desired. It was highly educational. The place also offers handicap access. The restrooms are also very clean. You can stop by their small gift shop with cool stuff on your way out. The staff members are friendly and provide excellent customer service.
So many fun things to do for the little ones. My boys enjoy the skate park.
Awesome place to bring young kids expect about a two hour experience. Most of the insects that they have are on display accompanied by lots of information. They do have some live insects that you can see. As well as great interactive displays. During my visit with they did have someone bringing live bugs out for everyone to see up close and personal as well as touch. It was very informative and the gentleman who is hosting was knowledgeable. There is a gift shop and restrooms as well and handicap access.

Very beautiful! Nice to see color markers on trees to follow different trails. Important note: a lot of mosquitoes + deer flies in July, a repellent is a must have in the summer season
It's ok for a large gathering but the playground is underwhelming. Swings are too high for little kids to use. My niece went down the slide and got stuck twice on the way down. Better for dogs.
Very informative, clean, and a great job using space efficiently. They had a live presentation and many interactive exhibits. Great for kids of all ages and many opportunities to learn new things. Would recommend to anyone who has some free time and wants to learn some new things.

This is a really nice park. My dog and I love coming here and walking around. There is a lot of open space to run around and play fetch, or sit in the shade at one of the picnic tables.
Very small and you have to pay a small fee to park. 75 cents per hour. Machine accepts change but it doesn't work so you have to put in a credit card or pay cash and you don't get any change back. Its got a gazebo and a small walking path. But that's about it. Not much too it. But it is cute and scenic. I was just looking for a scenic outdoor area to sit down at and each lunch and enjoy a little nature.

I always take my kids here. To play and run. There's tables with seats if you just want to watch them while they play and has lots of shades for those sunny days. And it's always clean. Perfect for picnic if you ever want to have a family reunion with kids. But letting everyone know that this place is almost always packed. Either from school kids events or just a lot of families with their kids. But there's always parking able. Bathrooms sometimes are open sometimes they are closed but there is always one portable potty wheelchair assessable big enough to have some else to help if help is needed of course. Always clean too. But I always bring one extra toilet paper and alcohol to clean sits when my kids use it or I use it. Trust me this Park is always packed lots of people and kids but it's beautiful playground. Recommended.
Such a great park through and through. There are two sides so be sure to check out both. One offers a boat ramp w/ quiet beach, and some bike/running trails. The other offers mostly trails and fantastic views.

This has two off leash dog parks contrary to what other reviewers say. Very nice parks. Has a small and large park. My only criticism is there is no fresh water available and no potty facility for humans.
My first visit to this place … such a nice and peaceful atmosphere. Multiple short trails, ospreys, a long walk on the main trail that ends up in a clean beach was cherry on top. Ideal for walking running or bicycling, kite flying on the beach if you like it. Even if the day is sunny being a marshy place, with wind can make it cold so be prepared for that. Some of the areas might have ticks so you may want to bring the repellents, we didn’t take any. Overall a very clean and beautiful place to explore.
Great spot to catch Pokemons! Currently it has 2 gyms and 3 stops. You can hit two of the stops and one of the gyms all at once.
I've been going to this park since I was a kid so maybe it's nostalgia but I love it. The trail is nice and peaceful considering it's proximity to the highway. It's a small quaint place to have a nice walk. Plenty of benches and places to chill. Paved main trail and plenty of unpaved branches

Highly recommend! The museum was clean, new looking, fun, and very affordable. The place is small but packed with so much. My family loves bugs and animals so this was a perfect place to visit. If you happen to be in the area like us, definitely stop by.

This park has lots of trails, playground, picnic area and a nature center. It’s easily accessible with a stroller. We love the nature center where they have different shows like scales and tales. They also have a butterfly garden outside of the nature center.
It’s a great place to come and observe osprey nests.

A great experience! Jeff our guide was outstanding! He took time and accommodated us even though we hadn't booked a tour. So interesting and gave an great perspective on the past. This was a perfect museum experience! Look at the "Last Supper" fireplace metal piece...Michael Angelo or Leonardo DaVinci?

Always a great time when dog with no recall are allowed to run up aggressively barking at us with no leash on. Good thing this park had a fence.
The park has areas where you can sail in from the river and temporarily tie up your boat for a walk about.

During warm weather months, a Farmers Market is held here on Wednesday until 4:00 pm.
The only downside is that portions of the park, including the central gazebo are fouled with Canada geese droppings. I did not encounter any geese during my visit.
The main access point and parking lot is off of Water Street in Downtown Toms River. The island portion of the park is accessible by a footbridge. A secondary parking lot and access is found on the western, far side of the park. Huddy Psrk one of the many Toms River riverside parks that add to the charm of the town making it highly desirable location.

Great place to take the kids to see some wildlife or just hangout there are some fish to be caught snapper bluefish, bunker, spots, crabs yellow perch and the list goes on also a cool place to dock the boat and go eat.
Super awesome place to check out! Definitely worth the price to see so many different bugs. They have tanks of live bugs as well, including at least 20 tarantulas! A nice guide gives a 15 minute presentation about a few live bugs that you can touch and learn about. Great for kids to ask questions. Amazing taxidermy collection. Everyone is nice and laid back. Gift shop is a bit pricey, but they have some unique taxidermy butterfly art for sale.
Cattus Island Park is 530 acres nestled between Silver Bay and Barnegat Bay and has 7 miles of trails. I walked the main trail which is a dirt and gravel path down to an isolated beach overlooking Silver Bay. The view walking this path was so beautiful as was walking on the boardwalk path. It was a bit of a challenge getting to the beach because the flies were relentless. There was a sign at the entrance to the park stating the fly season specifically referring to the Horse Fly and the Deer Fly is June through August so if you plan on coming during this time frame, just be prepared. I hope to come here again in the Fall so I can go on the Hidden Beach Trail. Fun Fact: There are Osprey Nest Platforms throughout the park that were built by the local Boy Scouts.
Unfortunately closed the day we stopped by, but looking forward to our visit next Thursday!

The path seems to go pretty far so if you want to go all the way around be prepared to go far. Mileage posts to show you how far you’ve gone.
Other than some small trails that go to and from the fields there seems to be only 1 major path.

Some really good off road trails and plenty of black top trails. Have to warn you about the wild life. As I was sitting on the bench in the photo 2 women were passing and said be careful of the snake that's behind you! Being the city boy that I am I jumped up and said snake what snake. They pretty much saw the terror in my face when I saw a big black water snake that was a couple of feet next to me. The snake got scared cause I probably was a little loud thank God and took off. No worries just be careful where you sit. 😆 lol
I’m in love with this little park! I grew up in Howell and had no clue this was even here! You can tell this is a preserved land because of how much natural scape is in tact. There are also many osprey perches with active ospreys in them! I took as much time as I could, following the blue trail around to the hidden beach trail, then back around. It wound up being 4 miles! I highly recommend a day in this park. Wish we could swim though.
Castle Park 🏰 A staple of Toms River Parks n Rec program. This park has been revamped throughout the years. It has quite a bit of different play areas. Several types of swings for all ages comfort levels and disabilities. It has a large Rock probably not meant for climbing but that's what all the kids do from it. They have recently built a skate park on the land right beside the park and it looks good. The ice cream man swings by often and you can always buy a snack from them. The one gripe is there is quite a large amount of bees that come and hang near the trash can by the entrance, it a result of the ice cream being thrown into that trash. My daughter has been stung 2x at that trash can.
Very insightful on the history of Toms River. It was free to walk thru, however, they did have a "tip" jar that you could leave a little tip for the workers.
I never paid much attention as a child, to the Toms River Seaport Society. I finally went today 12/21/21. It was very informative, the staff was very nice and opened up all of the exhibits for my son and I to walk thru at our own pace. It was very hospitable.
If you like boats and NJ history you need to check this place out
Great park for kids to play. Pavilion provides some shade and tables for picnicking. The rubberized grounds surrounding the play area is nice for the little ones. A real restroom and more shade would make this park better however.

I was ok. My son got really hurt because the steps to the play-gym are black grated-like and blend together. It's hard to tell where one step starts and one ends... my son missed the 2nd to last step, fell and slammed his knees into the bottom step. It hurt so bad that he couldn't get up for a while. His knees are really bruised. 😬😔

Sprawling park that allows you to be forget the outside works for just a little bit as it's parts and playgrounds are secluded in the sense foliage while still providing fun and interaction. The children's Memorial Garden is definitely a quite tranquil place of stunning beauty. My only issue is that you can't drive between the two major sections of park but at the same time this prevents individuals from using it as a short cut.
Really a gem in disguise. I had never been there before but the museum is now open 3 days a week, so I went in. A remarkable collection of local historical boats (fishing and sailing) as well as all sorts of nautical memorabilia.
Well worth a visit.

Super cute little park. 2 baseball fields. A playground with swings. A big outdoor covered area with picnic tables. I went when nobody was around but it seemed like a clean, well maintained place.

This is a beautiful park with a 3.4mi out and back paved path from restroom to restroom. There are benches along the way and a bathroom, playground and covered picnic area at each end. There are no maps or directional signs, but it is fairly obvious which direction to go. Everyone is friendly and will point you in the right direction if needed. Pictures updated for summer. Very beautiful and easy walk or great for you kids on bikes.

Great place to walk. We'll paved path plus little side paths through the woods. The deer must be used to people, they stayed in their grazing areas and just watched us as we walked by.
Very neat and clean park for kids. Kids really had fun.
This park got a reputation from the 80s and 90s as a place where kids go to get into trouble and do drugs. I visited it with friends to get exercise a few months back and it did not have that lifeless feeling anymore. They fixed it up and made it look and feel welcoming. Leave at dusk when the park closes.

I came here for research on a project and the amount of information available is outstanding! I learned a lot from coming here and plan on returning for personal teaching. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, even if they aren't the expert they will try to help you and usually direct you to one of them who are an expert. They have numerous contacts if you need interviews. I actually plan on volunteering here this summer!

Nice area for Soccer, Baseball, and Basketball. Would be nice if the playground was a little bigger, and didn't have spray paint/graffiti all over it. I hear they're revamping the area and adding a spray park, so it will be nice to see how that pans out.
Amazing place to research your Ocean Countu roots and history. The museum and exhibits are top notch!

Pretty neat
I give this park a low rating because i like a park with walking paths or trails. This doesnt have that. There are a couple of basketball courts, a small playground, a baseball field and some woods that are kind of littered with trash that teenagers would leave around. There are much nicer parks nearby.
Been there many times and have introduced the experience to others. A lovely, historical, old Victorian home and garden, run by a friendly staff. This site also affords research opportunities.
