Such an amazing attraction in the heart of knysna, conveniently located accross from the Knysna mall. Tickets available for R20 cash at the Spar or the Foundation clothing store.

The fauna, flora and fungi are a treat to see. So grateful to have green spaces in Knysna. Hope it can stay this way.

Nature is worth supporting.
A sneaky little gem in Knysna that I think only the locals know about:)

Netter kleiner Ausflug zu einer seit Langem geschlossenen Brücke
Went there with my grandmother back in 2017. One of the two little houses at the back of the museum is my grandmother’s childhood home. The house was given to her father by the owner of the railway company he used to work at. My grandmother really enjoyed seeing her childhood again. Will definitely visit again and bring her with as well.

A small museum with free entry. Old jail converted to a museum. Worth a quick visit. Lots of interesting exhibitions to view.

Some interesting items but the museum is a bit worn down
Museum in desperate need of some TLC. Dirty floors, paint peeling from the ceilings, some displays have water damage and a general lack of care. Labels on artefacts are faded and difficult to read. Displays haven't been touched in 20 years.

Really enjoyed this little outing. It’s not just about the Old Gaol, but also has a maritime section, angling section and a lot about the history of Knysna which I found fascinating. No guided tours (I prefer to take my time anyway so suited me fine) & lots of info on the walls as well as QR codes for further reading. AND… it was FREE!

Was a good experience. Could use some better upkeeping, but was still very interesting.
Lovely little underrated museum. It is free to enter, and nice to see the life of the area when it was formed.

Great space where the Knysna Art Society showcase exhibitions. Also houses a museum.
Could do better and it is very very old I know it is supposed too be like that but maybe make it into a real museum?
This truly is a hidden gem in the middle of Knysna. The reserve is absolutely gorgeous and the hike is short, yet relaxing and beautiful. Reserve does need more signage to find it easily as we drove past it the first time.
Not very easy to find air well kept, but a great piece of history.
Staff always friendly and helpful ❤
Lovely walk tucked away in the centre of Knysna. Just a few steps in and all the sounds of the busy town melt away to the sounds of nature and birds. Beautiful view from the view pont at the top. Entrance is only R20 person and your permit number is needed to open the gate.
Hidden gem in Knysna! Various short trails, great viewing point, very clean and well kept, various benches with some picnic areas.

This historical landmark gem is part of a popular bicycle trail with a beautiful view from the bridge over the Knysna River. The Red Bridge was built in 1923 and refurbished in 2014. To get there, you drive on a small stretch of dirt road, park near the bridge and view. No entry fee and no bathrooms nearby. It's also frequented by youngsters who like to jump off the bride and into the river to take a refreshing dip.
This is where you get all the useful information about the beautiful town of Knysna and the staff here is wonderful with useful information. Everything they inform you about is truthful and real.( ˘ ³˘)♥

It’s a cool experience but obviously you have to be careful with the kids. We still talking about this from nearly a month ago haha.

Also cool to cycle over on route to phantom pass.

Hang out spot to fish, swim or if you are brave enough to jump off the bridge.
Nice short hike with a beautiful view of the Knysna Estuary. It's not really stroller friendly, especially when getting closer to the top. If you're going with a baby, rather make use of a kangaroo pouch or just carry them in your arms.
The one staff member that was there, was really insightful and friendly. A lot of interesting history of Knysna to be seen.
If you are white and/or support racism you should definitely go here.
We felt very uncomfortable being treated differently (in a bad way).
Sadly a long forgotten heritage site that's no longer looked tended & cared for
One of the best preserved museums in herritage sites ive come accross. No entry fee is required and they have a very rich history of the town of Knysna. A must see when you visit.

We were in and out pretty fast because we came just before closing time, but we saw a few interesting things. You learn a lot about how Knysna was founded and about the lake and the ships that first entered the lake. Knysna has a rich history and it's always fun learning more about it. Would like to visit again some day.
Gorgeous place. Perfect for 2 or more people. The trails are clearly marked and easy to follow. It’s gorgeous.
We stopped here shortly before closing time. A very friendly consultant greeted me upon arrival. The consultant had great insight and knowledge about local attractions, made wonderful recommendations and provided me with a local map with notes and directions which made it easy for us to navigate the area.

Absolutely outstanding customer service, the ladies on duty during our recent visit (14th to 17th Feb 22) were very knowledgable, extremely helpful and went out of their way to even phone bookings for us. A real credit to Knysna Tourism.
The women that help me gave me extremely good advice. Nice to see a capable person in a job.

Beautiful bridge in beautiful surroundings.

We come here often especially since they reworked on the bridge and made it safer and better as it was old and worn plus a bit of a safety hazard.

It's surrounded by beautiful scenery and the river is deep enough to jump off which we be doing in the summer and have seen people do! Also it's a good fishing 🎣 spot too.

The walk across is short to when u get to the phantom pass road but very scenic and beautiful.

It's very peaceful here so definitely take that short drive to come have a look at some history and beautiful scenery!

Its a bridge, a red one :) Nice view of the lagoon, especially at sunset.
Part of popular mountain bike route.
Safe to jump off when tide is high
Sad state, but still a cool piece of history
The lady there was so helpful and very kind. Suggested alternative things to do, due to covid-19 lockdown regulations closing all beaches on the garden route. They adhere to all covid-19 regulations.
This was not a good experience for us. As you turn left from n2 and right into a narrow creepy road, which is not a clean site, bottels and plastics along the road, branches untrimmed, as you enter a circle look-alike we found homeless people relaxed on the grounds. Not safe at all. We couldnt, didnt want to drive any further as it was a high risk hazzard for unsafe.

Well kept. Need more signage for directions and information
Sehr gute und informative Tour
Not very safe to stop there. Area run down and neglected. Go with backup
Very nice and scary old dolls, but what a great experience. Service was very nice and friendly, no entrance fee, just donations. All the stuff is very old but very good condition.
Great way to learn about the local life.

Really enjoyed it .Lovely to see our history preserve. The Art galery was amazing.Very interesting display of historical pieces
Park in the centre of the town, maybe private owned as to enter you need to pay 20 rand! Was a rainy day and you can easily do the path in an hour! Some interesting flowers on the way!

If you looking for a nice jump spot, this is it. Just do your checks, water can get very shallow during low tide.
Nice to visit the museum if you are a fan of history. They are still under construction of a few areas. Some work needs to be done, maybe a pamflet when you enter the museum would be helpful during self guided tour.
It’s grounds were in fairly good condition but some parts needed trimming back. A wonderful community project that allows some relief from town. Take bug spray because the ticks are BAD!
The grave site is fairly beautiful. During late spring when the Agapanthus flowers are in bloom it looks especially neat. However, the site is quite remote and doesn't feel safe. I wouldn't advise anyone to go there alone. But if you can go as a tour group it is a lovely piece of Knysna history and definitely worth the trip.
Great historical value, however the information sign is damaged and there was rubbish lying around
A 2 hour tour trough the township of Knysna was very interesting. They gave information about the life in this township and its history.

We visited a African doctor, kinder-garden, shops and had a nice lunch before we returned to the petrol station.

It is definitely something to do during your stay in Africa.
Very very positive and informative. Tuli provided an excellent and positive outline of the townships including a visit to a local preschool. Lunch at Tuli's home was quite special. Emil added additional history. An extremely enjoyable tour and completely different from what I had expected.
