Had a great tour and stargazing night, although the name of our guide I have forgotten he was brilliant, Korean/Canadian accents. He was filled with knowledge and seemed like he really enjoyed what he did. It made the whole experience so much better. Thanks heaps
We finally made it here only to find it derelict and closed. It's such a shame. We were looking forward to this so much after wanting to come for some time. Also, this was the only place to get a cup of tea around here. Now there's nothing.

Nothing really to see. No water being let out. Lovely kept area. Saw a couple of kangaroos in the paddock near the viewing area.
One of my highlights to Canberra recently. You don't have to be an astronomy buff to appreciate this place. It has expansive views over Canberra City & you get 360° views of the ranges beyond - gives you a location perspective of this Capital City & it is captivating!! ✨️✨️. Winding road up & not very well maintained. Plenty of parking - signposted.

It is also a MTB riders' mecca. Mini bus loads cart the bikes to the top & was told they come a long way for this particular downhill popular mountain bike trail. There is a great walking trail from base to summit.

Apart from the heritage magnificent Observatories - mostly only the shell remains after the great fire of 2003, there are newer buildings for astrophysics study by Aust Nat Uni (ANU) & one functioning telescope. Enough info boards to read & value Aust's first Observatory established in 1910. Canberra's light pollution has put paid to ongoing development but you can book online for astro viewing on certain nights. Website info is not good - might be best to contact directly.

Cafe was closed on my visit on Sat 30 Sept recently & not sure where toilets are (must be somewhere). There is one BBQ facility. Not many picnic table setting - byo.
The public observatory night was held by the astronomical society and passionate students. Visibility of planets and nebulae are dependant on the night. Dress warm for the chilly outdoors, avoid using lights, and keep in mind you will have to wait in line for telescopes particularly the domes. Overall, it was intriguing experience in a relaxed "atmosphere".
Cold and windy during winter. A great destination to observe the sunset. Plentiful of wallabies and kangaroos. The observatory has a beautiful history. If you manage to find the piano, it is still working with some off keys. Didn't stay for stargazing, but imagine it to be an amazing place. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the ACT 🩵

Nice place.
BBQ area.
Wish there were toilets.
The kids really enjoyed this place and just realised they have BBQ facilities. I'm looking forward to having a BBQ durring a summer afternoon look over the mountains.
Sometimes you can hear the lions or monkeys at the zoo the other side of the Molonglo river
Once a month there's an open night which presents visitors the fabulous experience of stargazing. Thanks to all of the volunteers who brought their telescopes and knowledge here to share with us.
Not the largest dam by far but still has an interesting history and purpose. Keeping the water supply for Canberra secure for future generations.
Worth a stop for 15-20 mins if the weather's dry, to take in the scenery and see how the Scrivener Dam works. Close to the Zoo and the Arboretum so doing a trip to either of those from the City, will bring you here.

Handy lookout spot at the Spillway. Parking available and something to do and see close to Govt House Lookout and Arboretum. Water flowing the day we went, lots of recent rain in Canberra
This was a fascinating place to explore, with both new observatories and older buildings around the site, all within walking distance from each other. Tours are available on certain days but not necessarily needed. At the top there's a breathtaking views, a few biking tracks too and lots of kangaroos in the area.

Worth checking out.
Saw it after the heavy amount of rain ACT has had. Wasn't disappointed!
