Very peaceful and beautiful church. We went on a Friday and it wasn’t crowded at all. Although tourists were not allowed to enter into the church, you can enjoy the exterior. Very well maintained.
Merry Christmas 🎅
We went for our Christmas service here. It was predominantly the local Goans- but they did accommodate us within. It was a great service - it was in Konkani, but emotions of pure love was felt. Service completed late into the night and we left completely satisfied.
We have been to this church multiple times before - mostly during the day time. But we were here during Christmas and took this opportunity to visit during the midnight mass. A definite visit if you are in this vicinity ❤️

Very peaceful place ✌️
Built in the 19th century, the church dedicated to the Mother of God or Our Lady is known as Mae de Deus. Its foundation stone was first laid on 7th February 1867 and this beautiful church was inaugurated on 26th November 1873. With Gothic spires and pristine white walls, the Mae de Deus Church is an important landmark in Goa, reminiscent of a fairy-tale castle.
This is one of the best churches in Goa. Be careful of dogs because they run faster than you.

Title: A Timeless Gem: Mae De Deus Church in North Goa

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Nestled in the heart of North Goa, the Mae De Deus Church is a splendid architectural marvel and a cherished tourist attraction that stands as a testament to Goa's rich cultural heritage. During my visit to this iconic landmark, I was captivated by its timeless charm and the serenity it exuded.

Architectural Marvel (4.5/5):
The Mae De Deus Church is a splendid example of Neo-Gothic architecture, which is quite rare in India. Its intricate detailing, soaring spires, and stunning stained glass windows are a sight to behold. The pastel-colored facade adds a touch of grace to the structure, making it a striking visual spectacle that stands out amidst the greenery of the surrounding area.

Spiritual Oasis (4/5):
The church is not just a feast for the eyes but also a place of spiritual solace. As I stepped inside, I was greeted by a tranquil ambiance that provided a welcome escape from the bustling tourist spots in Goa. The hushed whispers of prayer and the flickering candles added to the atmosphere of reverence. Whether you're a devout Christian or simply seeking a moment of quiet reflection, the Mae De Deus Church offers a serene sanctuary.

Historical Significance (4/5):
Beyond its architectural beauty, the church also holds historical significance. Built in the late 19th century, it reflects the enduring presence of Christianity in Goa. It's a reminder of the state's colonial past and its rich cultural amalgamation.

Cultural Exploration (4/5):
Visiting the Mae De Deus Church provides a unique opportunity to delve into the cultural tapestry of Goa. It's not just a religious site but also a place where you can appreciate the fusion of European architectural influences with the local Goan culture. The church's unique blend of styles makes it a fascinating subject for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts.

Accessibility (4/5):
Located in the vibrant village of Saligao, the Mae De Deus Church is easily accessible by road from popular North Goa destinations like Calangute and Candolim. It's also a convenient stopover while exploring the nearby beaches and attractions, making it a worthwhile addition to your Goa itinerary.

Overall Experience (4/5):
My visit to the Mae De Deus Church was a delightful journey into the history and culture of Goa. It's a place that seamlessly marries architectural grandeur with spiritual tranquility. While it may not be as famous as some of the beaches or nightlife spots in Goa, it offers a unique and enriching experience that's worth every moment spent.

In conclusion, the Mae De Deus Church in North Goa is a hidden gem that beckons travelers to explore its historical and spiritual significance. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking a peaceful escape from the tourist crowds, this charming church is a must-visit destination that showcases the enduring beauty of Goa's heritage.

It's really peaceful to sit and watch the sun setting, and if you're lucky enough to see a peacock.

One of the busy four way chowk
Mae Deus Church is a Mother of God situated right in the heart of Saligao. It is a pleasure and happiness to tell that being bron and brought from my Native place in Saligao. We have a lovely experience in having the mother with us. Although now it has been 150 years old church wit it's Gotic architecture, we are very proud to have it with us.
