Spent about an hour there self touring. Guided tours when school is in session. Best seen after Monticello because the scale of the dome is so much larger.

It was a great visit, I was impressed with how well maintained and all the access to the site. I really like history, and this is a great part of history. I was impressed about the campus and the friendliness of everyone.

When in Charlottesville, do stop by the Rotunda. This building, in memory of Woodrow Wilson, in the university founded by Thomas Jefferson, combines beautiful architecture and rich history. Admission is free.
Very nice building. The whole area of the University of Virginia is very impressive. Students simply have to feel at home here.
Not really a historical society, more like a opinionated, current event exhibit. But this come with all museum mostly today. It would be cool if they kept the old history and some other things in the city around. This is coming from half aboringal Australian half jamacian. Didnt see any offensive in history none of us has any control over.

Beautiful structures with a lot of Historic significance, yet fully functional in current day makes the visit to Rotunda a memorable experience.
The thought and the mission why this building was erected in the first place and the commitment to keep the original purpose intact after 200+ years is no small achievement and certainly not something one sees often.
The whole area is alive with UVA students whose presence assures the future of this structure and campus.

Truly a breathtaking sight and what many think of when they hear the word UVA. Big hoos fan and chose to check this out yesterday and it was an amazing view, great views inside and an amazing view of the lawn. Will come back again.
The greatest American who ever lived.

The Rotunda was designed by Thomas Jefferson and modeled it after the Pantheon in Rome. Construction began in 1822 and was completed in 1828
A magnificent building, there are tours guided by students but you can also do the tour alone. You cannot miss visiting the UVA Chapel which is the same grounds. A lot of history, very recommended

We only had a few hours and did the Highlights tour which let you see the 2nd and 3rd floors of the home which isn't part of a regular ticket. So worth it and Brie, our docent was so informative and answered so many of our questions!! Would highly recommend a visit to this site for a glimpse of life in our founding fathers era...

This is an outstanding property and we were really happy we came up for the day. Thomas Jefferson was quite the architect (along with all his other accomplishments) and this house/grounds has a lot of innovations that you will not see in other houses of that period. Highly recommend the behind the scenes tour and get there early as you can easily spend all day there.

Beautiful and historic grounds and you get very good views of the Virginian countryside. The tickets are pretty expensive for adults, however. The grounds are not as big as one would expect but pretty nice nevertheless. I would recommend to visit here if you are in Charlottesville because there is not much else to do

I visited the Thomas Jefferson Statue on UVA grounds and I was amazed by the beauty and history of this monument. The statue and the Rotunda symbolize Jefferson’s vision of education and architecture, and his contributions to the founding of the United States. It remains a powerful reminder of Jefferson’s legacy and influence. I highly recommend visiting this statue and learning more about Jefferson’s life and achievements.
Lovely tiny museum of local history. Currently featuring descriptive text written by local 8th and 9th graders. Great approach to getting youngsters involved in making history real.

I just finished reading the 1 star comments. Most of them are about the pricey tickets. 😱😱

The guided tour ticket is $42, and the ground tour ticket is $22.

I bought the guided tour ticket today, 01/20/2024. It was a 45 minutes with one tour guide, his name is Jim. He is a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide. 👍👍👍

Is it worth it to pay $42 dollars and see the third president's house? Well, if you think 45 minutes is too short, you can spend more time exploring the wine cellar, kitchen, and the garden.

I would suggest do some homework before you go. It is because the tour guide was a little bit fast taking before you can even understand the whole story.😅😅😅😅

However, I do have one feedback which I promised the staff I would write to the owner.

It is 26 degrees today with 19 miles per hour wind speed. All of the staffs who worked outdoors today were all shivering 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶.

Is it possible to provide the outdoor propane heater for their health issue concern? ❤️❤️❤️❤️

First time I have been when there were guided tours. Although the 45 minute tour was very informative, it requires the whole group to be in one room together with the doors closed so the other tour in the next room can not be heard. The rooms here are small and our group was too big to fit comfortably in the rooms. There is a strick no touching or leaning on anything at all policy which made the tight quarters feel even tighter. Tour sizes need to be smaller or maybe our day was just really busy, but I liked it better when we could do self guided tours. I would not recommend this tour for small children. The rooms are just too small with too much stuff.
But for history and architecture nerds, it is an amazing and interesting home. Don't miss the museum, it has some great displays that show how he modified and expanded the house over the years. And they have a model of his final renovation that was never completed.

This was well worth seeing. I did the highlights tour and felt for me, that was plenty. However there is a longer more in-depth tour that also would have been interesting.. Our guide Rogan was spectacular! He explained the history well and encouraged questions. I particularly liked how he addressed the difficult subject of slavery and Thomas Jefferson’s involvement. After the house tour there is an option to tour the slave quarters. Yet again, I was impressed how our guide Louie handled the delicate subject and encouraged thought.
The entire staff from check in to the guides did a tremendous job!
Thank you!

My wife and I recently visited the Thomas Jefferson Residence Museum, and it was an experience that far exceeded our expectations. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic, clearly passionate about their work. Their helpfulness added a special touch to our tour, making the rich history come alive. This museum is not only a testament to Jefferson’s legacy but also a treasure trove of American history. We highly recommend it to others and look forward to returning ourselves in the future.
I was so happy to stumble upon this place during a jogging expedition through downtown Charlottesville.

Like many buildings in Charlottesville, this building is so beautiful -- in the spirit of Thomas Jefferson's early architectural influence on Virginia and beyond. It has the magnificent marble Roman-style pillars, grand portico entrance-way, and marble balustrades around the roof- the style that Jefferson felt appropriate for important public buildings in the new democratic republic of America.

There are some very interesting displays, an impressive book collection and I assume all kinds of historical materials available to the public.

The workers that I met there were very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I was so happy to be able to chat to them and look forward to getting emails from their organisation.

Monticello offers a step back in time to learn about the history of one of the forefathers of this country. The tour of the home is pleasant and the tour guides are knowledgeable. There are also multiple other tours of the grounds that provide a great historical perspective of the land and of Jefferson. There is even a Thomas Jefferson character that is found on certain days and times. If you get the chance, stop by to see him. He plays the role with great accuracy and the interaction with him is very memorable.

You have failed this country it is a Disgrace what is happening , To OUR history right /wrong or indifferent. Taking down statues doesn’t erase nor solve any transgressions or deplorable things that have happened . Ignorance to facts is teachable, However for stupidity there is no remedy whatsoever. May GOD help us all before this DEMONIC SOCIALIST PARTY enslaves us all
Satin is convincing you he doesn’t exist.
Not much to see here in the way of exhibits and artifacts. Focused on providing research resources.
Had a great time there,I was an epileptic patient there for 2 months in 1977, under the care of Drs..Dryfus and Spacuza
Honestly what an immaculate representation of former President Thomas Jefferson, I was blown away by the amount of detail put into this truly remarkable statue. As a native Virginian, I pride myself in my ability to assess the monuments of my fellow Virginians, such as Jefferson himself and dear god was I blown away. I truly recommend you put this own your bucket list, maybe even twice, just to be sure you experience the greatness that is this statue.
Learning about all of the Presidents, the climate at the time after escaping religious and political persecution from England and other places, just shows the continued growth of humanity in many areas...
Had a great experience here
Overwhelmingly with the amt of records they have. Unfortunately not on the part of the family I was searching on.
Small but interesting display. Definitely worth popping in when you are in the area.
Not really much of a museum. It just has information on the folks in the Zion cemetery
