Pleasant viewing environment; nice café, too.

This gallery is small but beautifully designed inside and out with lots of different spaces currently exhibiting 3 very different artists.
It’s the kind of gallery where you pay because want to see the work so always check for what is on.

Attractive views from the cafe which was empty on a cold November lunchtime.. Pleasant staff. The soup was tasty but not a lot if it for the price. The flan looked nice and was similarly tasty, but with a rock hard base. My friend had a members card so didn't have to pay to go into the exhibitions which were OK.

The Cafe lets it down. High prices no atmosphere and the male staff member not interested in explaining about the coffees or food available. So we went to the pub opposite. Better value.

What an amazing place filled with out of the ordinary things to see and do for all the family. Friendly staff welcome you into another world and as you walk around enjoying the various seasonal exhibitions on show. The very building itself is alive with curves, beautiful stone work and the most remarkable carved wood I've seen anywhere. I've lived a few roads away from the museum for years and just never ventured inside until recently to see an art installation and performance by Orryelle and Melissa and I've been back a few times already and enjoy every bit of it.

Great amount of items from every period in history on display. Loved the Grey Owl story with a mock up of his log cabin and many personal items of his to see. Some stairs but there are lifts to all levels. Great art exhibition also. Worth a visit

Absolutely beautiful building with fantastic exhibits. Would highly recommend a visit.

Hastings Museum is a great place to take children of any age, my granddaughter is only just 3 and she enjoys an afternoon there. The rooms of local history is displayed well. She likes the animals section and an area upstairs full of pottery, only because there is a table laid out with a little tea service ready for the "Tiger that came to tea". I like the section dedicated to local man known as "Gray Owl". The exhibition room changes frequently, I like to see the new exhibition items.
It's a free museum, so go and there is a nice little shop, nice greetings cards.

It has a lot of artefacts on display and rich history to tell. Staff were friendly, self toured, and a great place to take the kids. It's not really wheelchair accessible as there's quite a number of stairs to climb and descend when going around the whole place. Mythomania was on display, and I saw one that looked like optimus prime. Loved it.

Small old town museum crammed with loads of local history

We come here at least once a month. Our 5 year old now always loved this museum and we hope the love with stay with her forever. There's a few places for kids imagination to run wild and I think that's what captured her the most and us too.

Helpful guides in each section.
Even the paintings which I did not like were interesting.
The restaurant was good with wonderful views of the cliff and the harbour arm.( I have the subject for a new painting).

The design of this museum is great. Lots of space. Child friendly. Wonderfully interesting contents. Great for adults too.
My only criticism would be that the notes next to the exhibits is too small. Which was frustrating for me. Maybe though there is a guide. I will definitely revisit.

A valuable community asset, if perhaps sometimes primarily for its cafe, whose balcony gives an overview of the working beach and, when we visited, the Green Man newly-goth-steampunk morris dancing. The art then on offer was of limited interest: spadefuls of gloomy oil paint, asymmetrical portaits etc. Another time, greater lively uplift, I hope!

We happened across this on one of the 'fun' days by chance, we frequently visit Hastings but hadn't been in before. The fun day was certainly that! My two kiddies had a blast and do did I! We did ribbon dancing in a beautiful multicoloured rainbow installation, we made self portrait posters inspired by the artists work and also drew self portraits and hung them in a gallery. The gallery is smallish, but, it is full of high quality art an amazing gift shop and if you're lucky enough to be there for a fun day make sure you join in too with all the activities!

Not surprisingly, great for books relating to Hastings and the surrounding area, and helpful staff too.

Okay, smallish gallery of contemporary art on the Hastings seafront. The building is more impressive than the art therein, and you'd be hard-pressed to spend more than 1 hour exploring the small exhibitions. Had I known how little there is to see in advance, I would have spent my money on something else. That said, during my visit there was an interesting temporary exhibit on different perspectives on life and tourism on the sea, with (mostly early to mid 20th century) paintings, old ads and photographs. Well put together, unfortunately I could not take photos (I loathe that). About 40-50 minutes worth of one's time. The rest? Not much. There's an art studio where "art" is being created on the premises (totally forgettable), a nice café on the upper level, and a decent museum (book)shop. All in all, underwhelming. I've been to countless regional arts galleries all over the UK in recent years, this was one of the most disappointing experiences.

Tons of information on what is a very historic town, shame the council doesn't do anything to promote it or the area. Please join the society if you can and they could do with some volunteers.

This little gem of a museum is worth a visit, there is always a display featuring an aspect of Hastings history, but perhaps more importantly, the staff are very knowledgeable, the archives extensive, and answers can be found to any questions you may have about the area. Of particular help with family history research. Donations of course welcome

An excellent local history resource. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and I gathered many helpful insights into the origins of this unique town.
