1st time i ever been there 10 pound entry to genuinely wait 30 mins to be served tragic bar please save yourself your mood and go elsewhere place is terrible 2 people making drinks for 100s of people disgusting service

Avoid! Not a safe place .Wow! This place never going back. Where do I begin?
The entrance stank of urine! Which was nowhere near the toilets. During the evening, the toilets were closed, meaning men and women had to share the same block..... neither gender was happy about it.
For a music venue, the sound system is a key part of the venue.
The sound quality was dreadful. The music selection 90's night over 30's the DJ played were good. Sadly, speakers sounded as if they had blown... so much distortion on the base. The high frequencies were painful. I'm really shocked at just how awful it was in there! We left after about 40 mins.
We hailed a cab outside the venue, which was dodgy as the cab driver insisted on cash and then started driving 3 miles in the wrong direction from our hotel. I emailed the venue to warn them of potential fake cabbies trying to abduct women, but no reply!!!

The place is so dirty, stinks terrible. Rude staff, there’s a blond with huge teeth, he couldn’t be more rude, he’s clearly unhappy with his job. Such a bad experience

Great place for a drink and all age range in there xxl is really busy

I struggle to understand why LGBTQ+ venues hire bouncers and staff that aren’t inclusive. Experienced micro-aggressions from one of the bouncers here. She was rude, aggressive, unpleasant & miserable. Will never go back to this venue again and will continue to recommend all of my friends to go elsewhere. Not a safe space.
Please avoid this venue at all costs.

Staff are really nice, they play good music. Have good events. Student nights on a Thursday is very cheap for a vod lemonade & if u lose something it’s so easy to contact them to get it back! More than what you can ask for x

Nothing like the Old Boltz which was great

The New Boltz is just a bar with dance area that was open New Year and small cruise area, as well as cinema room upstairs.

I attended New Year, which was good and I did enoy it. Staff were friendly and drinks reasonably prices.

The less than pleasant experience started before I got there. The website has absolutely no information, their email address does not work and while they read their messages on social media, they do not respond to any of them. I managed to find out via other attendees that the performance I was interested was at 1am but I was ready to have a fun night it so it was no problem. Got there a couple of minutes before 10pm then everyone was kicked out to queue up again. They took us to a completely different room upstairs and then a couple of hours later let us downstairs again to the 'main' room. No matter who I asked in the venue, no one seemed to have any information whatsoever which just felt weird considering they all worked there. The lack of communication from staff really created a confusing night but the performers were great which made things much better.

Terrible place, really so nasty that I've never seen one anywhere. It's a shame that the second largest city in England has such a disgusting place. Service at the bar is poor but the worst are the guys who come there. Old, and the main guests are the bar staff, so the bar is frequented by people who work there. Disgusting loud laughter at the whole club is terrible. Never again. After leaving this place, my well-being was terrible

Was so much better at the old venue.
I'm glad it reopened elsewhere but they need to invest on making a similar atmosphere and 'spaces' as before.
It's laid out like a nightclub but people don't go to dance; also blue lights are horrible: bring back red lights, stand around bar, private themed rooms, authentic cottages and a proper maze...
There is so much unused space, it's not expensive to do. I don't understand why they haven't .

Edit. Actually got in this time. Boy do I regret, £3 to get into a mostly closed off venue with drinks 100% watered down. I drink spirits near daily, each and every one tasted extremely off when trying friends, even when mixer comes from the can. Wasn't allowed to have my whisky straight either. They outright refused and it's 100% down to the drinks being watered down I have zero doubts. This place has had its day sadly.

Absolutely disgusting door staff. Illegally refused acceptable ID which I know for a fact is acceptable from working within the same regulations for 7+ years. I even confronted with legal evidence and they still lied and denied with no good reason, I suspect they don't like the goth/industrial subculture and it was discrimination based on that alone. I say that as after proving my points by government legislation they then continued to accuse me of being something you never want to accuse someone of being, whilst with someone 25yo, with said person able to prove it by three separate means, all of which they refused to accept against legal statutes already in place. I have never been so insulted in my entire life. The only upside, several people left the qué due to the door staffs behaviour, less money for them!

Talk about a case of character harassment right? Which I'll add is easily challenged by legal means especially with several witnesses. I add that for whoever reads this, hopefully someone reads these given the sea of negativity! When's action happening?

Finally, and definitely worth adding. Considering how many LGBTQ+ people struggle with IDs. I've never been more disgusted at a place that considers itself LGBTQ+ friendly. It is by far the least acceptable place as judged by every other bar in vacinity granting access for the same IDs. And commenting on the disgusting behaviour that is ongoing within.

If you want a night supportive of the LGBTQ+ sub culture. Pick literally anywhere else nearby.

Personal note. Having known this place for 14 years, it's absolutely disgraceful how much it has changed and even as just an ally, I'll never visit this place again. My friends should feel comfortable, not discriminated against.

Gales is the worst LQBTQ+ venue and that sign doesn't change things.

Edit. After writing this, found out a friend who was inside before we arrived was also abused the same evening twice with absolutely no actions taken by any of the door staff. Worst part, from what I've been told, by multiple people, they backed up the abuser in one instance. Never going Gales again that place has become something shambolic.

Terrible place.. 95% of people here are old retired grandparents
P.S Regulars who are every day and sit next to the playing machine - behave with culture and stop laughing at the whole club. Not everyone wants to play the prude and some come to crusing.
Let the staff do something about it.

Brilliant dancers and performances here. Staff have always been mostly friendly. My only issue at the moment would be how aggressively social distancing measures are enforced. Surely, people in the same house or social bubble should be able to stand up at the table?

Just saw new year 2020 in this amazing club, so much fun to be had in here! The club was warm and very friendly, with cheap drinks. Easy access and somewhere to leave your bag and coat. The club has a varied clientele and was impressed by the facilities. Will defo be back here to enjoy the company of like minded guys. Very much a place to relax and enjoy life in. LOVED IT

I was surprised to read the negative reviews below; haven't been in a couple of years, but it was great to revisit and experience the vibe again. And, it is just as was.

The bar staff were exceptional. It was good old-fashioned pub staff engagement, professional, engaging, friendly and fun. The clientele, again, were hugely chatty and included everyone in the banter. The regulars clearly have a rapport and get along well - again good old fashioned teasing, leggier-pulling & camaraderie.

There are darkrooms and all but there's no pressure to use these - just enjoy the good old British pub community spirit, which is at its very best here.
