The Konark Sun Temple in Odisha, India, is a marvel of ancient architecture. Built in the 13th century, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a testament to the skill and creativity of its builders. The temple's intricate carvings depict mythological stories and daily life, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of that era. The main sanctum, shaped like a colossal chariot with intricately carved wheels, adds a unique and awe-inspiring touch to the site. However, erosion and weathering have taken a toll on the structure. Despite the challenges, the Konark Sun Temple remains a must-visit destination for history and architecture enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into India's glorious past.

Surya mandir, one time visit. It charge 40/- per person.
Plan the visit in such a way that it is visited either in morning or evening (best hours to visit).
It also has market stalls on entrance (keep the shopping in the end of the visit).
Best priced bags, wooden jewellery boxes are available and don’t forget to bargain.
Suggestion - Keep water bottle with you.

A beautiful sculpture dedicated to Hindu God Surya. Parts of the temple remain intact but there are some parts that have ruined. Government is trying to restore but the original sculptural innovations and quality of its carvings are quite unique and it will be difficult task.

The Konark Sun Temple is very beautiful and a must visit place. It shows the intelligence of the ancient Indian architectures.
There is are sun dial also which shows the real time according to the shadow which is amazing and the most important part of the temple.
The history behind this structure will definitely surprise you.
But the sun shines very bright there, so keep your sunglasses with you and also do not forget your hat or cap whatever you want to carry.

We have visited this place on Oct 1st 2023. Undoubtedly this is one of the best example for temple architecture in India. The place is well maintained and they have paid parking space for motorcycles, four wheelers and auto. Firstly there is a museum for which they charge Rs 50/- each, the museum is so good with lots of historical information on architectural design of kalinga period. Next for entering the Konark temple they charge Rs 40/- each. The temple is usually crowded on weekends and on public holidays but there is no wait time as there is huge space to roam over. Highly recommended spot while you plan Odisha trip.

The Konark Sun Temple is very brilliant and shows the intelligence of the ancient Indian building construction and the architecture.
Some of the parts of the temple have been broken.
There are sun dial also which shows the real time according to the shadow which is amazing and most important part of the temple.
But it still looks so attractive and mind blowing.
The history behind this structure will definitely blow your mind.
The Sun God idol is also present there. But no worship is allowed there.
Surrounding the structure there is beautiful greenery where you can sit also.
But the sun shines very bright there, so keep your sunglasses with you and also do not forget your hat or cap whatever you want to carry.
In short, I would like to say that it is a very beautiful historical architectural structure where you can and you should visit with your family and friends.

Excellent view but sad to see that Muslim and Portuguese invaders destroyed main temple I can't imagine how they built this impossible architecture. We Indians lost our knowledge technology because of them. What if now a days have this much of technology just imagine our India would be top. Sad to see like this.

Konark Sun Temple is an architectural wonder. The Mandapa is so grand, can imagine how grand the Shikhara would have been.
Carry an umbrella or wear sunglasses coz it is really sunny out there.

Tickets and everything is fine. Don't forget to buy souvenirs on your way out.

This is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of India. It is definitely worth visiting. There's also a museum, the museum also showcases a short film about the history of Sun Temple. There are few restaurants available but I didn't find them good :(

I visited this place during my Puri visit.
The Konark Sun Temple is indeed a magnificent representation of Indian heritage and architecture. Being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it holds significant historical and cultural importance. It's fascinating to know that the temple is open for visitors throughout the year, allowing people from all around to experience its grandeur.
The availability of guides to help understand the architecture and history of the temple is a great option, especially for those who wish to delve deeper into the intricate details and stories behind the temple's construction. Additionally, modern technology allows visitors to explore the temple's history through online resources like Google, which can provide valuable insights as well.
Although a part of the temple was unfortunately torn down during the British colonial era, the remaining structure still stands as a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans of that time. Exploring the temple area and witnessing its architecture can be an awe-inspiring experience.
As a bonus, the temple's surroundings might offer fantastic opportunities for photography, capturing the beauty and essence of this historical site. Moreover, purchasing Cashew from the local vendors adds a touch of enjoying the regional flavors and specialties.
