Food is not celiac safe, even if they offer gluten-free. I feel they did not take precaution as I found bits of tobiko on my rolls (which is normally not gluten-free). Was extremely sick after eating here, never again. Still giving 3 stars as the food was tasty.

Update: Something in the rolls was not GF though, or the board/knife used to cut was maybe cross contaminated with gluten. My body would not react that way otherwise. I do appreciate the owner reaching out to me to clarify the tobiko is GF. Again, the food here was tasty and if I was not celiac I would definitely eat here again. This review is just a warning for other celiacs to take heed.

Just paid over $150 for three trays of sushi, smaller trays, and very disappointing. I paid extra on Uber Eats for quality, this tastes exactly like the cheapest option on Uber Eats. Definitely not worth it, and avoid the ones with avocado as it makes the entire roll super mushy and Soggy. Disappointing

We eat here regularly! Don't let the appearance fool you, it's so fresh we can't eat anywhere else. The Chef's special roll is different every time but always worth the risk; the creativity and flavours are top knotch. The price is not cheap but you 100% get what you pay for.

Stunning intimate restaurant with interaction with the chefs, the food is made in front of you and you can see the care an attention that is taken in preparation. We had the tasting menu pared with saki, what an exquisite combination that has to be tried. The many saki options was a new eye opening delight to be taught new tastes and pairing options. Highly recommend this restaurant and well deserving of the Michelin star. Love it . One of our pictures shows what real Wasabi looks like before being grated on this special device which is a replica of the sharkskin grates used in Japan. New fun fact!

Amazing find. Delicious authentic Japanese food! Udon broth was amazing. Tempura light and not greasy. Hot green tea and hot Sake were great too! The serving bowls, pots and cups were beautiful.

I came here to dine in for lunch on Thursday. I ordered the lunch combo that comes with 10 sashimi pieces and 5 nigiri, plus another combo that includes 6 pieces of dynamite sushi and 6 pieces of spider (i.e., soft shell crab) sushi. In total, the food cost over $40 after tax and tip.

PROS: The server was attentive, the interior decor of the restaurant was very nice and the washroom was clean.

CONS: Unfortunately, the food did not taste good. The dynamite sushi and the spider sushi both tasted the same, which is odd. None of the flavors really stood out, plus it did not taste very fresh. The sashimi and nigiri tasted average; I've had better ones from other restaurants. Also, it is worth noting that this restaurant is not authentically Japanese. I won't be coming back here due to the disappointing quality of the food.

The Best Japanese Sushi Izakaya with super fresh Sashimi, Sushi and all the delicious tapas to share. Great selection of sake, beer, wine and cocktails. The staff there is also super friendly with great service. A must try Japanese Restaurant in Toronto North York.

It is a vibrant and friendly restaurant catered to a younger crowd. When you walk in, the staff will shout their welcome loudly in unison. This is a popular place so reservation is highly recommended.

This is not your typical quiet Japanese restaurant. It is a unique blend of a bar and a Japanese eatery. The food served is between traditional Japanese and fusion items, offered in tapas style. The menu change often and the daily specials are superb.

The open kitchen, the friendly staff and the boisterous atmosphere make this restaurant an excellent place for gatherings.

Truly an unforgettable experience, from entering to leaving the staff are amazing, we had the obsession perfection and it was like the same suggests absolute perfection. The flavours and textures are truly unique and utterly satisfying. Truly the best meal I’ve ever had. This is a must experience if your in the area
Friendly service, clean and modern looking restaurant, food however, was somewhat bland and lacking strong flavor. Thai taste simply not present in the dish.

Food is amazing, season omakase that is authentic. Get the private room with Jackie for the best experience. 10/10 would 100% do it again and again and again. The wasabi and fish is better than anywhere else in Toronto. Jackie travels to personally inspect and acquire rare ingredients that bring out flavors we have never tasted before. It was an immaculate experience. Great presentation and amazing service. Friendly and worth it.

Servers are fantastic and the cocktails were amazing. Their tofu was quite good as well.

If you want to go with a large group for fun and drinks, Kinka is a great spot.

The best sushi place for real Omakase menu, arranged according to the guest(if visited a few times). Nowadays, Okamase became just course menu chef decide according to availability of the day and provides same menu for everyone at same time, this is not real Omakase.

Here, good ingredients, good technique and good sake, champagne and tea. And, friendly atmosphere.

Cute place to hangout at Sheppard Yonge! Drink and food price are reasonable, either tapas or noodles, etc are tasty. Got the cat drinks which is really good. They have non-alcoholic option too.
Good service and ambiance! Would go back to try more tapas and drinks.

Kinka Izakaya, the Japanese bar and restaurant, delivered an unforgettable dining experience that transported me to the lively streets of Tokyo. From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the energetic ambiance and the warm, inviting decor reminiscent of a traditional Japanese izakaya. The menu was a delightful journey through Japanese cuisine, featuring a wide array of small plates, skewers, and sushi. I indulged in their delectable takoyaki and the melt-in-your-mouth sashimi. The flavors were authentic and carefully crafted, showcasing the expertise of the chefs. The highlight was the beautiful presentation of each dish, a feast for both the eyes and taste buds.

The staff at Kinka Izakaya were incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, providing recommendations that perfectly complemented my dining preferences. Their passion for Japanese cuisine and dedication to offering an exceptional dining experience were evident throughout the meal. The restaurant had a lively yet cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for both intimate gatherings and spirited celebrations. Kinka Izakaya is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic Japanese culinary adventure. I'm eager to return and explore more of their menu, experiencing the true essence of Japanese dining once again.

Really wanted to love this place but left very disappointed. Ordered the lunch special and upon its arrival, we noticed each piece was coated and dripping in oil. Each bite was like an “oil gusher” which is not how I typically envision enjoying my sushi. The server never came back to check on us after dropping the food. For $60, it wasn’t just the oil leaving a bad taste in our mouths. Seriously disappointed in this place. There are much better (and affordable) sushi spots in the city.

I'm never disappointed in the food; however, the service is the SLOWEST EVER! Although we weren't in a rush on a Wednesday evening, it was a full house. They were definitely understaffed. They welcome everyone with a pleasant greeting and bid you farewell with lively pleasantries as well.
A mediocre Thai restaurant with rather unfriendly staffs.

I’ve ordered their Tom Yum noodle soup and my friend got the green curry, in which we were both disappointed.

For a bland Tom Yum noodle soup with chicken meats that’s hard as a rock, paying more than $22 seemed like a slight ripoff when there are other restaurants that serves better Thai noodle soup.
The fragrant eggplant was amazing - good eggplant dishes are hard to beat in my book!, Everything else I tried was alsoreally good. Highly recommended, as long as you are happy with vegetarian - only.

Had lunch specials, was good
Friendly staff here, the atmosphere was nice.. there were little bugs on our table at the front window, but we are downtown and hard to regulate these things. One of those kill it and move on and enjoy meal😊

p.s.
a homeless person came in to ask for food, and I was completely impressed with the restaurant's compassion. They invited the individual in to sit, and they fed her 🥰

You got me always coming back now
Thank you
Its a small Thai restaurant in Downtown. I am a Vegetarian and not many Thai restaurants are veg friendly but this one has an amazing Vegetarian dedicated menu in addition to regular sea food & chicken/pork menu. they have great delicious exotic dishes .. I had their crispy rice with Mushrooms and vegetables and cannot forget the taste for a week. I want to go here again. I tried Mushroom skewer they were also extraordinary.. pricing wise it is very feasible 15$ per person without the drinks. I am a huge fan of this place.
It is a small sitting place but food is outstanding .. they have all the variety of food - Vegan, Sea food, Chicken, Pork etc.

We had a dinner here there is many table and good vibe as well. My bf crazy about raw fish and I don’t like that so usually hard to go sushi restaurant together but here they have a various of roll not only fish rolls. I really recommend this place who don’t like fish at all. However you can get fresh fish rolls too.

Went here with some friends to celebrate a birthday. The food was top notch in terms of quality but it was a bit on the pricier side. The service was friendly but we did have to reorder some dishes again because the service forgot our order. Stay away from the 7 samurai drinks, although it looked pretty, it was very low on alcohol. The ambiance was quite good however and we had a great time. I would come here again for the food.
Decent for a quick bite. Their thai green curry was good, tasted healthy. We also ordered dumplings that we liked. We tried the seafood fried rice as well but don’t recommend it, it tastes artificial. Would go back
This is a fantastic restaurant! Pad Thai is my favorite dish, and the spring rolls are so crispy and delicious. I also really enjoy the Thai Fire Rice. Every time I go downtown, I make sure to visit this place. Even my baby enjoys the food and the owner is incredibly friendly. They even gave some snacks for my child as a gift.

I am beyond thrilled to have stumbled upon this amazing Japanese restaurant, and I just can't recommend it enough! A few things really made this dining experience stand out for me, and I have to share them.

First off, their sushi game is seriously on point! They've taken care of every little detail, from the sauce and fish to the rice, everything was paired to perfection. I didn't even need to add anything - this is hands down the best sushi I've ever had in the GTA!

Now, let me tell you about the delightful surprise I encountered. There was this soup, which honestly looked like a noodle dish at first glance. But guess what? Those "noodles" were actually delicate, transparent baby eels! Such an inventive and tasty creation!

And finally, the sea urchin - oh, the sea urchin! It was so sweet and completely free of any bitterness, making it an absolute treat to savor.

In conclusion, if you haven't been to this Japanese restaurant yet, you're seriously missing out! Trust me, you won't regret giving it a try.
It was okay. I had their Pad Thai chicken lunch special. They serve it with salad and soup, and spring rolls. The soup had some unprocessed parts of vegetables that shouldn't go into the soup. Pad thai noodles were flavourful, but barely any chicken in the dish.

It is a good deal overall if you are hungry; their specials are priced well.

Truly one of the most disappointing visit and menu I ever had. I came before covid, it was amazing and super dream worthy experience but this time around it was a complete joke. Picked the $480 menu. I was expecting a lot more for what I'm paying but nothing was special, thought it was super basic. Between every nigiri, too much wasabi couldn't taste the freshness of the fish. Also told the staff I was allergic to the melon dessert, didn't get a replacement dessert. Not only was the owner giving us dirty/judgemental looks, other chef was rude.

An unbelievable experience. My wife and I visited Shoushin for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. On the day we went, the restaurant had just recently received a Michelin Star and rightfully so... The quality of fish, the presentation, the flavors, the service and the overall atmosphere were second to none. We tasted things that we have never tasted before and Shoushin just blew ours minds! There were things that my wife and I normally don't eat at any other Japanese restaurants (I usually don't like squid and she does not like Uni)... but here... the taste and quality had us enjoying absolutely everything (even the slice of melon at the end of the meal was like nothing we ever tasted before)! All of the staff were extremely friendly, courteous and knowledgeable in each of their roles and I must say that this restaurant offered some of the best service we have ever received at any restaurant. We will definitely be back to enjoy another incredible meal with all the wonderful people at Shoushin!
