A decent place. The waitress was really kind and the food was good as well.

Semi authentic Japanese food in Hamburg city center. Many Japanese people eat here, which is a good sign. I like their teriyaki dishes, the sauce is so special, I think it is homemade. Their sushi is simple yet very tasty, clean taste, no need to add too much soy sauce. Tempura is light battered, crispy, and not oily. My favorite is their aubergine baked in miso sauce, simple yet very tasty.
The atmosphere is too cold, no music nor warm lights. It feels like eating in a tv studio. Too bad!

Came without reservation. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Service was excellent - very attentive and friendly. Sushi was delicious and authentic. Kirin beer on tab - hard to find. Little on the expensive side, but worth it. Hey, 5x year Michelin Guide restaurant. Decoration could be a little nicer, though. Will be back!

Had a great dining experience at Matsumi. The authenticity of the restaurant is evident in every dish. The staff were top-notch and the food was excellent.
However, we had a dinner on a warm summer evening and the lack of adequate ventilation or air conditioning made it quite warm, which detracted from the overall experience. Despite that, the cuisine and service were outstanding!

Sadly some meals are way too salty to eat. According to the german law you are eligible for a new meal or a refund… this restaurant just doesn’t care! The government should check on them… will definitely report them

I still like the food very much, although they increased the price dramatically after Covid. It is still my favorite Japanese restaurant in Hamburg.

Authentic and very good quality Japanese cuisine. I would recommend the speciality menu (6 course) so you can enjoy a large variety of dishes. The fish is either brought from the Hamburg fish market or imported by plane from Japan.

Excellent food at a good price. Probably the best chicken teriyaki I have had. Recommended.

Very traditional Japanese restaurant, offering local food with good quality. Each tables for two people are separate by Forderung screen, which provides good privacy. We ordered shabu shabu pot with two different meant: Argentina beef and Waygu meat. It is also served with other vegetables including tofu, China kohl, onion and glass noodle. In addition, we had sushi with Lachs and tuna which is really fresh and tasty. The restaurant is visited by many celebrities as well such as Roger Federer. Can not wait to come back again and try more dishes here!

Warm atmosphere, food was good, staff were very friendly and helpful.
Price was on the high-end, quite expensive.

But this is a good experience for the one who want to try fresh seafood with authentic Japanese cuisine.
Japanese food done well.
Kirin beer on the tap. Excellent sushi and fried chicken.

Eat there multiple times but still never disappointed!! One of the few Japanese restaurants from all over Germany that I could actually eat raw fish. Their Menu is quite fun to experience but Kobe-Beef is not really worth the money. Would recommend
to go there for lunch menu.

Matsumi is a great traditional Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere is great. You really get the feeling you're in Japan with the pretty wooden elements of the interior, Japanese ambient music, and the staff speaking Japanese in the background.

We had a spot at the bar where the sushi was being prepared carefully in front of us by the chefs. You could really see that they have an eye for detail and that they take their time to prepare the sushi orders.

They give you hot wet towels to clean your hands before ordering. I think this was great.

We ordered a 6-course menu with eel on rice and sushi with fresh wasabi. The dishes were well presented. One of the small salads was a bit on the salty side.
The sushi and sashimi were very fresh and delicious. Eel on rice was very tasty. The ice cream was great as well, as it wasn't too sweet.

It is expensive for what you get. Both me and my partner were not completely full, and were €180,- lighter when we left the restaurant.

TLDR: It's on the pricey side but this is the place you'd want to visit for taste, quality and ambiance - not for quantity or bang-for-buck. Take a course menu and you will eat at a slow pace to really savour your meal(s).

If you're hungry, have a snack before (or after) as portion size is quite small.

---📑 The Setup:
We attended Matsumi as a couple and both went for a 6-course menu with the mains as "Sushi" and "Una-Ju" (eel on rice). We could only get a Bar seating so we could not try any Wagyu / Sukiyaki unfortunately. :)

---🍱 The Food:
See pictures. The 'green tea' is nice and mild.
The food was very carefully arranged and the courses came in well-paced (over the course of 2h as advertised). The portion size was quite small, this is something to be aware of in case you come in hungry - we came here for experience, taste and quality alone and deliberately had a small meal beforehand.
Each dish is executed individually and carefully by the chefs which out great attention to small details - something which you an see well if you sit at the bar.

Taste wise all dishes were very tasty and seemingly became better and better with each course.
The first "radish salad" was our least favourite (too salty) and the sashimi was our most favourite.

🍣 Sushi/Sashimi: all of it was incredibly fresh and tasty; the sashimi came presented on parilla leaves and other edible garnish and was well cut and portioned for sashimi. Our personal favourite was the Tuna Belly and Salmon.

⚠️ side note: when the menu mentions 'x rolls' they do not mean that you get a roll (as is common at other places) but rather that you get x 'pieces' in total of said roll. Something to keep in mind.

🗾 Wasabi: this is one of few places which optionally serves real, fresh wasabi. If you have heard tales of real wasabi tasting vastly different than paste - give it a try. Personally I found both equally pungent but the real wasabi has a more creamy texture and some earthy flavour notes which other paste does not have.

🍨 Dessert: the ice cream we were served was great. It was very flavourful (sesame) and creamy but did not contain an abundance of sugar. This was a pleasant surprise as its often way too sweet.

---⛩️ Ambiance:
The music is a gentle, traditional Japanese background track list which plays at a low and comfortable volume - not overbearing, just present in the background.
The interior has a very strong Japanese (traditional) aesthetic with a lot of wooden elements.
Our Bar seating had a little origami crane on the 'table', which was comfortable to sit at.

---👤 Service:
During the meal the waiters did not inquire much about our meal or if we had any additional wishes; this was okay for us as we were content with our experience but it couldn't hurt to check in once or twice.
However, the staff was very friendly and went out of their way to try solve a problem we had with a Voucher, which we greatly appreciate.

We ordered food from here at Lieferando and waited for our order for over 1.5 hours. We called to ask why is it late, they say it will arrive in ten minutes. Then we wait for another half an hour. Not a good option to order from here if you’re hungry.

Very bad food quality, at least the backed chicken with rice I ordered. The taste was that bad that it was hard to finish it. I honestly cannot recommend this place.

It's on the 4th floor of Alsterhaus.
One of the best sushi restaurants in Hamburg. Authentic Japanese cuisine, highly recommended. Reasonably priced.
My blood sugar values went through the roof and I ate only sauce & soup - this is usually perfect (at other places) = they put waaaay too much sugar! That’s horrible. Hate this place.

I've ordered food twice. Big portions, affordable and very tasty food. I recommend trying them if you haven't done that already.

We ordered from there a few days ago. We ordered teriyaki Salomon and rice and fried noodles with chicken. The salmon was over fried, to the point where the thinner end of the fillet was basically dry rubber. The teriyaki sauce was not teriyaki sauce. Teriyaki sauce is thicker with a distinct taste. This was watered down soya sauce only. The fried noodles had absolutely no taste at all. Very lack lustre. For almost 10 euro a meal, would expect much more. Maybe they’re high rating comes from the sushi, but I’m flabbergasted by the rating, still. Will never order again.

I ordered some rice with chicken, and my wife got the noodles with shrimp. We also shared some sushi. The sushi was good, the noodles and rice were OK, maybe some more seasoning would be nice. But they have some really good teas, I will definitely go back to get some sushi and tea.

A bit pricy but it deserves. Very fancy presentation shows how the chief is treating his guests. The aperitif is innovative and good: plump wine mixed with sparkling water. 5 courses menu is a lot for one person but you can take away if you do not want to waste the delicious food.
The view is the best and the environment is calm and relaxed. Highly recommended.

We actually planned to eat at the billy burger right next to it but it was so crowded so we decided to eat at yoshi sushi place. We have heard it before it is quite expensive but it should be a real sushi place to eat.

We ordered the lunch menu, bento and sushi maki roll set. Service was nice but very slow. Food took about 20 minutes or more to come.. bento was all very nice but it's really not soooo much for this price. I guess it's like elegant eating not making you fell full. Miso soup was yummy not too salty but also not really special. My sushi maki roll set was ok, one roll with cucumber, the other with avocado and one with crab meat stick. I was expecting some fish at least (salmon maybe) for this price.. well overall it's tasty, simple but way too expensive. At the end we pay for lunch special between 30-40 euro per person. I was also kind of surprise Japanese green tea costs 7,8€ but it didn't really taste so different then normal green tea in other Asian restaurant.

I think this would only be the place for people who has way too much money to spend for food, oh well the sushi here is at least way better than henssler henssler!!
For sushi I was not 100% being convinced that it worth that much money. After lunch I went to the Lindner Bakery across yoshi to get some (big)dessert so my stomach is finally satisfied!
