This school is ghetto and racist an ratchet. These kids need Jesus. Too much drama and they always try to have s3x. They always have fights, and I MEAN ALWAYS. SCREW THIS SCHOOL!!!!!!

You should be as long you’re being yourself and not starting drama. But wearing uniform sucks.

The school has a lot of great programs for children and seem to care about the students but I feel the teachers seem to be bias about al the children that attend. They seem to put all the students in one category and that is concerning as a parent.

Great School

My child is a new student to this school. She was only there for 4 days before she was jumped by other students. My daughter called me EVERYDAY of the 4 days she was there to let me know that the students there were taunting her. I advised my child to reframe from any unnecessary issue that may occur. I also made her aware that she was the new kid on the block and all attention would be on her because she is a beautiful young lady, and that she should ignore any statements made. This went on for 3 days in a CLASSROOM in which the teacher never introduced herself or made us aware of the classroom curriculum, none the less no one at the school gave us any information in reference to the school i.e. handbook or anything, they just made her a quick schedule and sent her on her way . My child got in a fight on the 4th day at this school and the staff was VERY nonchalant about the situation like this happens everyday, which is sad. They proceeded to say that my child was the problem because she engaged in the arguments. One of the admins even treated me as if i was a student attending the school by shaking his head the hole time im trying to explain my concerns. It was also evident that the staff shows favoritism towards certain students and they engage in conversation with the students like they are friends of the family or something. The hole time i was there i seen OVER 20 students roaming the halls and staff walk right by without asking questions. Now granted my child did put on a scene but this was only after she was provoked for 3 days, she stood her ground and let the other students know that she was NOT afraid of them and she would stand her ground need be, because she was NOT going to be bullied, harassed, or taunted because she was a new student, and she was suspended. This school needs a hell of a lot a work from parents students and staff in order to get this school where it needs to be. If students dont do what they are suppose to do and parents don't get involved , and staff only comes to work to clock in to get a pay check this school will remain at low standards. The test scores are extremely low and the reviews are over whelming. Please do your research before leaving your child in this dangerous environment because the staff gives off the impression that they don't care and they are just dealing with what has been sent to them. It's terrible. The principal even mentioned to me on the 4th day he had to step in during a issue with my child the prior day, but I was not informed of ANYTHING until the day of the fight. I have attended this school a total of 2 scholastic years. The school is fine in it's own right. They never seem to have enough food for all the students. The health level is at least a C. The teachers won't send you to the nurse for injury. The school goes against dekalb county student code of conduct rules such as; A student may not be suspended for attendance related issues (i:e; late to class). The student may recieve a warning and/or phone call for the first 2 offenses, in this school however, you get instant all day in school suspension. The Spanish teacher Dr. Juan Rodriguez threatens students' grades and constantly calls security on students asking him questions or explaining something. He does not grade work himself, he makes students do it for him. He is biased towards his teacher pet's. I personally know a student who skips his class every single day and has had a solid 88 for the entire semester. This teacher also shoves students and ignores both parents amd teachers. He takes personal calls during class and is very rude to students he personally does not like. He is extremely dismissive and will talk about anything and everything to avoid a question. The disciplinary vice principal refuses to do anything about this teacher. Mr. Andy Rhodes is a world history teacher that uses videos to explain things to his students, he expect all work to be done within 90 minutes but only let's you work on certain things at certain times, this has caused alot of outrage in students. He grades students on their mood rather than their knowledge and comprehension. He tried to refer a student for being 'rude' even though the student wasn't talking to him or about him. Being rude is not an applicable reason for referral. He even gave a student several zeroes for doing his closing work. This has been the only thing I've seen so far that has been unordinary. The classrooms are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The a/c will blast at 33 degrees outside. Major props of good work to two particular teachers by the names of Ms. Fletcher and Mrs. Nogueras.

a librian took 20 dollars out of my bag and acted like she didnt . i started a fundraiser and they shut me down

My daughter loves going to school at Laurel Ridge. Parents are involved and the PTA is very organized. The culture is very inclusive and kids and teachers seem to be kind and respectful. I am very happy we moved to this area!

I attended in 1964 and I feel it was great to have had the chance to go to Towers.

Great place to learn for the children

My child have attend Towers High School for three years now. Every time I step in the office not just the staff greet me the students coming in and out the office do as well. Rather I email or phone the staff for any reason, I receive a reply promptly. I have experience noting but professionalism and family hospitality when from Towers High School Staff. The staff commutation, I rate them a 10. I am on a parent email/text list. This keeps me updated when my son has a quiz or a test. Do to a Towers High School assisting me with my son's success in his education. My son has been an honored student from the day he begun Towers High School. Thank you Staff of Towers High School, please...Keep up the good work.

Very dissapointed in the administration. Particularly the Principle. Who lied to the news channel about contacting the parents about the incident that happened with the guys having the guns on campus. I do NOT feel safe with my child being there. We weren't notified about our children and if this happens again, how will I know except from finding out from my child. Administration needs to do better. But i'm not going to find out if they are doing better. My child is out to a better school who informs parents of emergencies like this. And yes the teachers take their time submitting grades on the Infinite portal. How are you suppose to keep up with your childs grades and they are not put in on time. VERY SLACK.. FIND A BETTER SCHOOL. DEKALB COUNTY SCHOOLS PAY ATTENTION.. HIRE BETTER QUALIFIED PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIE TO PARENTS.

I still go here and it's a good school. The students have a little too much drama and fights and stuff but as long as your not involved your OK. But the only thing I don't like is if one students messes up, the teachers punish the whole class.

I use to go their my 4th,5th grade year I'm a sophomore now but brings back wonderful memories miss that school😥😊

I GO TO THIS SCHOOL!It's awesome!I'm in the 5th grade and I have been going there ever since Pre-k(The lowest grade in the school)!The school goes to Pre-k through 5th grade. It's so much fun and all the teachers are super nice!:) In 5th grade you go on this trip at the end of the school year to Tybee Island and you stay for 3 days!In 5th grade you also have a barbecue at the end of the year , where you have hamburgers , ribs , and hot dogs!I highly suggest going to this elementary school!If you do then I wish you good luck on each and every one of your school years there!Also if you do go there than I hope you enjoy the elementary school as much as I did!:)

Columbia Middle School is a wonderful school i personally recommend it i went there for all of my Middle School years

Honestly i believe that if you get in trouble or have behavioral problems it isn't the teachers fault

This school is complete garbage, the bathroom are disgusting, we barely have property doors in the restroom, teachers spend more time talking with other teachers then teaching, last but not least the teachers always put in grades last minute. I understand that they can be busy at times but they shouldn't have a pile of work from a month ago to grade when grades are due to put in. Evermore when that happens they give you the wrong grade that you know you didn't deserve, And when you come forward about it they 'll tell you that they will fix the error but never do. So you're whole GPA is ruined because of them. They need more consistency at this school.

Some of the teacher's are good but ms.cheely need to go back to 6grade somewhere becauseshe not ready for 7th and I hope she don't move along to 8th grade next year

Ayee Class of 2010. Columbia was not that bad when I attended. However, freshman year the school was pretty rough. We had a lot of principals. The teachers made commuting to Decatur 5 days of of the week doable. Very excited about Boochie leading Columbia. I would def say if you plan to attend college apply yourself while you can now with a free education.

Two of my kids went their are ups and downs. But far as the kids learning the teachers do care CMS is the best 2017-2018 New year let's do it......

Um Rockstar x I just want to let u know that Columbia isn't the worst and also don't blame the school for the fact that u got suspended and got influenced by other people. Tbh my 7th grade year was by far OK but the way u describe CMS isn't true

The school is great. You'll have a few ups and downs. The teachers care about your learning, if a student doesn't want to learn, they get sent out the class, so the other students can learn. The building is nice. There are occasional fights, the administration will do anything to make there are no more. One minor issue is bugs. But the janitors will get rid of it. You'll get bullied, but once you cry a little, you'll get thick skin. It's a great school. The one thing I don't like is the schools ego. But other than that it's great. But you'll have to experience it for yourself.

Best elementary in Decatur

Okay. I don't go to this school lolz =P And I don't even have kids yet.

But, I live in the area and my sister, who does have a lil girl, is looking to move closer to me (Yay! =)), and wanted to check out some of the elementary schools in the local area. She's not looking to move til the end of summer, but getting her ducks in a row early. :)

Anyway, I went with her on a tour of the school to check it out.

It's pretty nice. It's definitely an older school, but I kinda like that - it gives it a nice old-world feel of the days when innocence was a bit more the norm.

All of the teachers and staff seemed so nice and friendly and they were all very knowledgeable. The way it's built, there's a cute little courtyard in the middle of the school and that's really neat.

They have a big cafeteria, with one of those stages up front :)

A nice big gym in its own building for the kiddies to play their games and exercise.

A very nice little library.

The outside is pretty huge out back, with some basketball courts and a nice wooded area. The playground was pretty lacking though. But when I asked about it, they said that actually they are building a new, better and bigger one this very month!

They have a dedicated system for disadvantaged children and they do participate in the pre-K lottery thing, which my sis was really excited about =P.

It's literally right in the middle of a big neighborhood (it borders on mine), so it's REALLY convenient if you live in the area.

And of course being Asian, we were concerned about racial diversity - but no need - walking around we saw students from everywhere, so that's really nice too.

I wish I could give it a 0.5, for being a stable building and working on the cockroach problem. This school is hopeless and the community that suffocates it is a shining example of that. This is not an institute for education. Those who don't lose themselves and their integrity here should be given an award. This is coming from a former student, class of 2014. Half of these kids barely know how to spell or act decent in society. Most of them are betting on a athletic degree or ROTC to get to college, but you need tenacity, humbleness, and pride (not arrogance) for that type of thing, so I guess that is why the community is so sad. If only the neighborhood was cleaned up, if only the school had more money, if only the teachers weren't pushed to their limit, if only accredited colleges came to CHS, if only the students were not treated like animals, if only the board of education had people who generally cared. This school would be rather nice, but it is not. So I am here to tell you, move out this community and find a decent school, because the only third redeeming quality this institute has is that it is not a worse school, Towers.

Too much learning

We watched the finals tonight - congratulations. The coach's blurb at the end was somewhat accurate - the girl's basketball team was disciplined, but unfortunately, not like #13 needed to be disciplined: with soap in her mouth. She stole the ball during the 4th quarter, but as she ran out of bounds she was clearly seen dropping the "F" bomb several times, clearly not realizing the camera had zoomed in on her face. Is this the type of "discipline","school spirit" and leadership that is promoted at this school? If I were the parent of a child at this school, I'd be far more annoyed than I am now. This is not appropriate language for a girls baseketball team - I hope she and the coach are reprimanded for this behavior. Clearly, if this is on national TV, it's not a first.

Great School Wonderful Teachers BUT WORST PRINCIPLE EVER ! Principle Amy Is Disrespectful To Students,Staff,and Parents !

Dekalb county moved this horrible principal, from Columbia Middle School last year due to parent and staff complaints. Almost the entire staff put in to be transferred , why would they reward her by moving her to a high school to make a bigger mess out of things?
