Marott Woods is a lovely Nature Preserve! I’d love to go more with my pup but there are too many off leash dogs.
From the Marott Woods Nature Preserve website…
“Although Marott Woods has come to be commonly referred to as a park, it has been a nature preserve since its inception. Protecting the habitat takes precedent over our personal whims. Because of this, activities like off-path hiking, biking, fires, and off-leash animals are all illegal under state law.”

Beware of off leash dogs!! This is a great city park but many seem to think that leash laws don’t apply in Marott park. If you have a reactive dog, avoid it!! And owners/handlers, please be smarter and leash your dog! Trails are well maintained and there is easy river access.

The park is really pretty and I'm so surprised that it's so close to home. There are picnic tables, trails, places to walk down to the White River, and more.

A great place to relax, and take in nature, very close to Broad Ripple, there are trails, and viewing vistas.

As of this review there is construction going on and you can’t get to the trailhead. It would be nice to have seen that on the website prior to the drive out there. I will update when I am actually able to hike here.

Best place to get lost in nature without actually having to go far...I feel blessed to have something this wonderful near my home!

Nice place lots to do and pet friendly just have to keep them on the leash and it’s free ❤️

A+

Nice and convenient place downtown for a more "nature" run. You have a choice between the paved bike path above and the trail below. Nice extension to the Canal Walk which is a bit limiting + you can extend it as long as you want northward -- don't go South of Washington (other side of the river) as it gets a lot less nice. Possibility to go anytime of day -- the bike trail is lit, the dirt trail is not (bring a headlamp if at night).

Love this trail. Very well secluded . Nice parking space. Great for families and the river part is peaceful and fun for stomping with the kids.

This is a great hidden gem. Parking is very limited (atleast during tge off season, I imagine they unlock the gates when weather warms up to allow for more oarking space). It is part of eagle Creek park but there is no fee required for entry. The main loop overlooks the river. There is even a cool cinder block structure hidden in the woods. It appears to be a youngster hangout. This part of Eagle Creek is much less populated with visitors than the part east of the resevoir. I consider it a must hike for the hiking enthusiast.

30-40 minute walk. Great view of the river. There are benches

There is a well built official trail that is extremely well marked that offers nice views overlooking the reservoir towards Starling Nature Sanctuary and even provides a path out to the reservoir at about the halfway point. Additionally, these trails provide access to countless additional unmarked trails winding all the way through the west side of the park to the Great Bear statue off of 56th street. The only negative is that it seems hit or miss whether the gate is open; there is a small parking lot outside the gate, but it makes the walk to the official trails almost as long as the hike itself.

I've been walking in these woods since 1978 and I've enjoyed every walk.
And now to make it even better they are putting in a whole new set of trails! This is a great place to go for some quiet time on a trail in the woods.

Great place to hike in Indianapolis! There are a seemingly endless amount of interconnected trails between Wilson Road and 56th Street.
The south entrance and parking lot on 56th Street has a large, metal bear monument and is a popular place for fishermen. Unfortunately there is a lot trash everywhere throughout the woods, in the parking lot, and in the water left by people who have no respect for nature.
The north entrance at Scott Starling Nature Preserve on the other hand is more secluded and has way less litter. There is also less parking, but it is split between two trailheads.

This so far is my favorite park in indy. It's very stunning and flows like you are going hiking within your own city. I enjoy the natural stairs that have been implemented but even more so i love the flowing water that lives on the top of the hill after you climb it. Almost as if you have been rewarded for your short journey. Sometimes if you catch it after it rains, there is flowing water throughtout the whole park. By the higher river, i like to do my meditation there. It's perfect with the flowing water and fallen trees that you can rest on. Not many come to this park at the same time, so it never feels over crowded and the pollution is very low. I'd come to this if you would like some peaceful alone time. Or if you want to bring a group of friends or your dog. However you come, you won't regret it.

This was a peaceful hike. There were guide posts along the way that were easy to follow.

It is a very beautiful park! Had great trails, beautiful scenery, and most of all an amazing place to bring the family

I've hiked Eagle Creek for years and just recently found out about this place and was very pleasantly surprised how nice the views and hikes were. The trail are very well marked and not to difficult to hike. It's a good hike and you'll be amazed that it's not more popular. If the gates are closed to the entrance just park next to it and walk the road till you get to the trail. Adds less then a mile onto your overall walk.
