My husband & I had one of the BEST Mexican meals we’ve ever had today at this restaurant! I had the Tempura Battered Mahi Tacos & my husband had the steak fajitas which came on a hot sizzling platter with 3 boiling sauces: melted butter, sour cream sauce & a creamy queso sauce that I used on my tacos. The homemade salsa with the chips was so good I brought it home! We can’t wait to go back!!! And the decor & atmosphere with the open-air front doors was wonderful!!’
A “Hole in the wall” restaurant with fantastic food. Clientele were almost all speaking Spanish which I understand but don’t speak. EVERYONE was happy with the food and the service! And the manager even took the time to ask me, in English, if I was happy with the food! I will stop by anytime that I am in the area!

Food was just ok. My and my friends chicken was very dry. The salsa tastes more like pizza sauce. The staff was nice but spoke very little English.
10 out of 10! Brisket tacos were some of the best brisket we've ever had, the pork enchiladas were delicious and the ribeye fajitas were super filling. I loved the black beans. A smokey mezcalina and boss margarita were sublime drinks. The only average thing was the free salsa. The spicy one was better. Going to have to come back regularly!
Went for brunch last week, the service and food was delicious I came back this weekend. The staff is awesome, they care and are very accommodating and professional. The quality of food is awesome as well. Please stop by for a great meal in downtown Sarasota.
Authentic Mexican Food!! All natural flavor!! I'm from Mexico & recommend this place! Great service! I Recommend the tamarindo - natural drink & Bisted Mexicano! The tortillas are handmade! Muy delicioso 😋
Amazing food! Great taste and presentation. Lots of seafood options on the menu. Doesn’t look like anything special on the outside, but the friendly staff and great food more than make up for that. Fair pricing and quick service.
Cool little place to grab a bite to eat. Not terribly expensive and the food is good. They serve unlimited chips and salsa. We had about 8 in our group. Most ordered tacos and they looked super good. I got the spicy burger. Our service was great. He even announced my son in-laws birthday and he sang! Fun experience. We will be back!
Absolutely pathetic. Ordered tacos for taco tuzeday...none had sour cream, even though it was ordered; they did not give us a bottle of water that was ordered and paid for; chips were beyond soggy...they were CHEWY. Rice had absolutely no flavor; no straws to go with our 4 fountain drinks (ordered on the app, picked up via drive through, so this is 100% on the restaurant). When I spend $60 on 4 meals, I don't expect to walk away feeling McDonald's would have been a far superior decision...lesson learned-- will not make the mistake of coming here again
Had a late lunch here for the first time and it was an excellent choice! Staff was super nice. Good came quick and all of it was delicious. I had two tacos carnitas and mofongo and my date had the mole on top of chicken and rice and he loved it⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We arrived just before they closed last night, tired and hungry after a very ong day of travel. Paula greeted us and was so kind and agreed to let us in. She got the kitchen to fix us a meal and Mia the bartender fixed wonderful margaritas. The food and drinks were excellent, and Paula and Mia were very attentive and kind to us. They really saved us and let us end our long day on a very high note!
Food is a hit or a miss. Typically it's decent but some days taste a lot better than others. And the presentation is sometimes better than others. All depends on how theyre feeling. Pretty chill vibe. Pretty quick service. I come here about 2-3 times a month

Cons: I tend to order more expensive dishes in hopes I'll receive an amazing dining experience. I made the regrettable decision of the seafood enchiladas. Whomever prepared this for me should hang up the hat immediately.
Two soggy flour tortillas with rubber tasting small amount of seafood with some low quality shredded cheese on top. NO flavor. NO spices or herbs and most importantly NO enchilada sauce. And LOOKED absolutely nothing remotely like the photo you advertise online. I shelled $18 on valentines day for this embarrassment. I just won't go back to places if restaurants keep doing this to clients

Only place you can get real food for a reasonable amount. The staff super super super nice. Seafood so fresh portions great puts other places to shame. All families and community dine in dinner spot big menu great flan tastes home made. I'm a good cook and I go there for good food. I also complain about everything and this place so good I can't find one thing to complain about. What a pleasure. It's consistently good. Also I'm so picky I said I want this and this and this she said no problem and made it just the way I like it.
As soon as you walk in the surroundings are colorful, fun and artsy. The service was fast and informative being my first time. I was unpleasantly surprised that the food was just ok. It wasn't very flavorful and the meat portion was very small. I loved the environment but wasn't pleased with the product.
Spicy pig burrito was very good and flavorful. A welcomed change to the Sarasota norm.

A friend referred me to this restaurant. And I’m so glad he did. I happened to visit on taco Tuesday… All you can eat tacos… Yes please! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fabulous. The decor is beautiful and festive with indoor and patio dining available. Oh and their margaritas are the best! Overall a great dining experience! I highly recommend when visiting downtown Sarasota!
My coworkers and I were in town for a business trip and came to El Melvin for a team dinner. We were sat right away and our server, Kyle, took excellent care of us. Kyle was very kind, attentive, and he made us feel so welcomed. The food and drinks were amazing! My coworkers had cocktails that they said were delicious. I had a mindful cocktail and it was tasty as well. The chips, salsa, and guac were so fresh and the steak fajitas were great. The atmosphere was chill and I loved all the art work around the restaurant. Thank you Kyle for taking care of us tonight, you made our experience even more enjoyable. Whenever I’m back in Sarasota, I’ll make a stop!
1st time here with husband. 1st impression leaves little to be desired. Let me explain. We walk in and waited awhile before anyone acknowledged us. Staff made eye contact with us on several occasions and nothing. It only takes a quick second to say “hi, someone would be right with you” . It’s a pretty small place, it’s not hard to see who’s walking in. I work in serving clients and I think it’s very important to make a great first impression. And the simple was to do that is greet people the moment they walk into your establishment. We had to ask the bar tender is anyone going to attend to us?

Good, balanced flavor —-we came an hour before closing, got speedy service and good food! The drinks were yummy, too! I had a classic margarita on the rocks, and my dining companion had an espresso martini – – Mucho gusto!
Food left much to be desired. It was dry and tasteless and the servings were tiny. Anything with veggies in it including the salsa tasted like it was weeks old. Luckily there was plenty of hot sauce to slather on and the hot sauce was good. Service was below par, we were dining outside and they forgot my wife’s order. Would not recommend.
Good Mexican place for a quick bite. Great outdoor seating when the sun is out. The steak and chicken burritos were delicious, good size and if not hungry good for two. Quesadilla was good, but for the price ($15) with no sides not so sure if we would order again. Very cute indoor seating, wish I took a picture. The only downside was the service, they were not busy at all and it took 15-20mins for someone to stop by the table and greet us and that was because I had to ask someone at the front. Other than that, everything was good.
Food was very mediocre. Crispy chicken burrito was anything but crispy. Mushy frozen chicken with sauce gooped on it. Didn't have grilled onions or peppers as described. Only good part was the salsa.

Decent Mexican food in downtown Sarasota. The chips are really good, but each bill had a charge for chips, but only one person actually ordered them. Overall, it's not bad and I will be back.
Went here for lunch with a few others. Took 30 minutes to get food and drinks, there were 5 other people in the restaurant. Got charged gratuity automatically with a party of 4 which was not listed on the receipt.
I was in the area for work and wanted authentic Mexican cuisine so looked on line and seen this location along with their online menu. I am happy I made this choice, food was great and you have to try mommas hot sauce. Thank you for the great service and Great eats. Oh and everything is home made. Here’s to an amazing time.
This place was packed when we walked in, and I knew right away it was going to be a good meal, the auroma from the open kitchen was divine. My friend and I neither spoke much Spanish so we had to wait a little longer as the first person who attempted to help us during their rush didn't seem to speak English or at the very least she started in Spanish and the confused look on my friends face as he grabbed the menu to point might have lead her to believe we weren't ready yet. Either way it was well worth the wait. I was not patient enough to grab a photo of my pork chops with onions before I started eating so hopefully my empty plate tells you enough about how enjoyable this meal was. One of the staff from the kitchen area saw us using hot sauce and brought us a house made sauce.. possibly diablo based on my previous experiences in life lol 💯 I couldn't stop eating well past the point of 'full' will return for sure.
Authentic cuisine!! Best I’ve had in Sarasota area. Ordered tamales app and a torres de marisco with salsa verde. The table behind us ordered a tostada de ceviche and it looked amazing as well. We ordered sauce on the side for the torres de marisco because my mom cannot handle spicy so well. The salsa verde was so fresh and the heat level was perfectly paired with the dish, in my opinion. I had an ice cold Modelo Especial and she had a margarita Will definitely be back!

Setting: Beachy place with good amount of parking just off a main road. Outside and inside seating with live music so expect a loud setting and loud people.
Service: Servers are young and not really attentive after food is brought (refills). Our server did make up for it by bringing sodas to go.

If you're into cheese and hot sauce this is the place for you. The servings were filling, the service was excellent, and the menu offered a large enough selection but wasn't overwhelming. Even the kids found stuff they liked.
Only came here because we had tickets from the Tampa Ray's game for free tacos, but also wanted a decent margarita. Lady at front counter was the rudest person I have ever dealt with in any kind of food establishment, and neither had any clue about the drinks, nor had a care in the world about our needs. Food looked decent, but chips were stale, tacos blasé, and margs were awful. Only giving 2 stars because our tickets kept us from wasting much money.
We love this place for so many reasons. Delicious food! The whole snapper is fantastic! Friendliest staff, inexpensive beers and margaritas, great music all adds up to a wonderful festive atmosphere and an always amazing meal.

I came to the plaza for the 1st time to try the Peruvian Restaurant which was closed. By pure accident I found this place and was surprised to see it almost full. As it looks pretty deserted outside. The smell was delicious, soft Mexican music playing (looks like the have live music too...), the sangria was not bad. I ordered a Mariscada Azteca with white rice and was pleasantly surprised. Service was quick and cordial. Recommend to those in the area. I am sure I will be back to try the enticing items in the large menu.
This place is absolutely awesome. The food is out of this world. I love Mexican food and I've been to many places, but this is just the next level. The fact that there were many Mexican people in the dining ther says a lot - you know is good.

The fish tacos were outstanding and the green sauce topped it all off perfectly! And I'm told that next week their tacos will be 2 bucks a piece. Killer job!
A friend and I were going to get dinner at Wicked Cantina, but they had an hour wait so we ended up coming here for a way more authentic experience. The guacamole was amazing! The service was friendly and personable. I’m going to come back and have my birthday party here 🎉
Listen, when you're the only white person there, you know the food is going to be fire, and it was! Everyone was super nice, and several people offered to translate for me if I needed help. Make sure you tru one of the agua frescas, the pineapple was delicious! Would definitely recommend!
The food was awesome. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. The servers were friendly and attentive to your needs. The owner also is very nice and makes sure each guest is happy. Definitely will be going back since the menu was pretty extensive.
No refills. The soft drinks are not fountain drinks but cans...at 1.50 each. The ceiling tiles near the vent had floating dust balls barely hanging on. Staff is very friendly though. The food is good, although small for price on this side of the bridge. For example, asked for added Pineapple, and they charged 2 dollars -for 3 pieces of pineapple.
Excellent authentic Mexican cuisine! Servers are always friendly and attentive. Limited parking out front with handicap accessibility, additional parking around the side of the building. I keep going back for more!
My family is always on the lookout for good tacos and Mexican food. This spot is tiny and tranquil. We were there for lunch around 11am. We ate the La briar enchilada combo with green sauce, steak taco and aguachili. Everything was fresh and so delicious. Oh and the green sauce that comes with the tacos is fantastic.
