Great store! Been open for more than 35 years. Quite a history to the region. Loads of collection as well and reasonable prices.

Selection is okay but the prices are getting ridiculous, as everyone knows. Practically all the jewelry is kept in cases now, even the really cheap stuff that no one wants. And of course there’s no one there to bring the jewelry out if you’d like to see or purchase it because they cut all the staff since they have self checkout machines now.

One of the best selections in the city. Thanks, middle-class Orleansers. Four stars because Value Village is for-profit and prices are way too high for a thrift shop whose inventory is acquired for free.

My mom who is a senior citizen enjoys purchasing clothing & bedding items to send to less fortunate in our country & I dont mind driving her to & from this store each time. Yesterday, after scanning the items, we needed help on how to proceed to pay, I kindly (excused me can you please help us here?) asked one of the sales clerks (Grace) to show us how we could proceed with the self service payment (my mom always paid in a cash register with a sales clerk but this day there was a long line). Grace came very angry & rough pointing buttons so hard on us, making us felt so stupid & ignorant. She also stated that we should not be calling her like a taxi catering us, she acted so mean to me & my mother & this was a shame on our part being treated like that. Grace words and actions was a very poor customer service that should not be tolerated especially dealing with a 64 year old & a 91 year old ladies. We went to see the manager to inform her about this incident, the manager gave us a 20% coupon to use next time as an apology gratitude. This is not what we need, the management of this store should train their people to act with kindness, courtesy & professionalism. Grace is not a right person to work in a customer service environment like Value Village.

LOVE this little used bookstore tucked away between the library and the rest of Ray Friel. I've found many gems here and the volunteers are exceptionally helpful. Happy reading!

Overpriced and substandard merchandise leaves this chain a must miss in your thrift store hunt and itinerary. Keep searching right past any of their locations. Recent news reports and employee testimonials are absolutely valid about their pricing structure!

A worker kindly stated "we prefer you donate a bags worth of items to get a coupon" when I brought in an article of clothing for a coupon. I'm giving you something for free and in turn you sell it for profit. God forbid you give a coupon to buy something you also received for free. Ever since then I go out of my way to donate one thing for a coupon. Your prices are becoming ridiculous and VV made half a billion dollars in profit from items you got for free last year. Be gratefull I donated at all.

Store could definitely be in better shape. Items feel abit thrown in place but overall an ok experience. Prices have continued to climb on products over the years so hard to find a deal worth buying that isn't on a sell forum for less

We went to Ottawa for a short trip, by chance we visited this book store, my husband is a Poet and writer.he grabbed his favourite books, variety of books ,for all ages with a good price, love this place . Come to see and enjoy your time.

Prices keep going up (to the point the cheapest pair of jeans is 20$?). However, staff is friendly and do their best to keep an organised and clean interior.

SO many options, books spilling over onto the floor. The books are in great condition for used books. Expect to pay about 50% of the retail price for books. Most I saw were between 7$ and 20$, depending on the quality, age, or popularity. It's important to note that they only take books in Tuesday - Saturday, when the owner is in.

Tucked away in the Fallingbrook Shopping Centre is a quaint used book market, a treasure trove for bibliophiles. This cozy nook is filled with rows of shelves, each laden with books that hold countless stories waiting to be discovered. The scent of old paper and ink permeates the air, inviting customers to lose themselves in the charm of second-hand literature. From classic novels to contemporary bestsellers, the variety is commendable.
However, this hidden gem seems to remain just that - hidden, largely due to its pricing strategy. The books, though rich in character and history, are tagged with prices that don't quite compete with other market offerings. This aspect, unfortunately, seems to deter potential buyers who are seeking more budget-friendly options. It's a place that, with more competitive pricing, could easily see an increase in sales and become a bustling hub for book lovers searching for their next great read at an affordable price. As it stands, the used book market at Fallingbrook Shopping Centre remains a charming yet underappreciated part of the shopping experience.

Today (Monday, Oct 2) I walked up to the door of the shop and found it locked. I figured, No Problem, I must be early (noting the sign saying it opens at noon). As I turned away from the door, a woman was walking the sidewalk in front of the store and we made eye contact. She obviously had seen me try the door. She didn't say anything. I turned and got back in my car, to see that same woman opening the door, going in, and then I looked at the time. 11:59.
She could have smiled and said something about being just about to open up the shop, but I got an impersonal look and that was it.
The usual staff member I see, another woman, is invariably helpful and sociable. But the one today needs some tutoring in how to work in the service industry.

Great selection of books! They have everything ranging from novels to non-fiction. Plus, French books are also available to purchase and some of them are under $10! Note that if donating, the owner is absent on Sundays and Mondays so you have to send them an email.

3.5 rating.
This bookstore is great and not so great. I really think it depends on what you are looking for.
- If you are looking for a specific type of book or maybe a newer book than this is a good choice. They might have it and it will cheaper than retail.
- If you are looking for a good deal on something not brand new or harder to find. Then not so great. Prices went up A LOT here. I think one of the cashiers told me a book is 4$ min now? Many places out there where you can get a much better prices (i.e other stores and even some online websites), but it will be cheaper than retail so if that's good with you then great! I have found some cool paranormal romance books here and they do have a great selection of them if that's also your jam.
- If you are looking to sell books? I would avoid unless you are thinking of giving them away anyways and thought why not get some spare change. They don't give a lot for books here. They are also selective with which books they take. So if you are looking for the most money, I would suggest driving somewhere else or selling on Marketplace or Kijiji.
EX: when I was kid (so yes a while ago, but I was there not too long ago when someone traded in books and while it's better now it's not a lot better and owners have not changed), I really wanted this one book I saw here. It was a teen book, paperback. So I went home and filled a large bag with some of my books ( I started the book nerd life young). Majority of the books were great condition, some hardbacks, most newer books, and then I went back in. The lady gave me maybe 2$ for ALL those books. My dad who was with me said "You know, she really just wants this one book and was hoping that by trading all those books she could get it" and the lady basically said take it (the 2$) or leave it. My pre-teen self is still bitter I gave the books away so I could rush out of there and almost instantly regretted taking the 2$.
Saying that after a year or so of boycotting I have been there many times since. The owner is not mean or anything, I have had some good conversations with her since. Maybe she was going through something at that time.
So to summarize, if you are looking to stock up on books and not looking for something specific would not be the first place I recommend. If you want newer books or want a specific book and don't want to pay full price good choice. If you are OK with paying a bit more than most used bookstores because there is good variety and book choices than this is also a good place.
Lastly, owner only takes in specific types of books and almost always only if they are in amazing condition. She also doesn't pay much for them. Pro for the buyer, not so good for anyone who wants to sell.

I’ve shopped many times at this store for books for myself or gifts for others and I always have a hard time not buying huge stacks! The staff are friendly and helpful. You can also sell them your used books for store credit

I love having the option to recycle or provide more life to products I no longer need or use. Being able to drop off just about anything while helping my community is fantastic. I've purchased some used books in the past. The only issue is you have to take the time to really look it over to make sure items are not damaged or smell terrible. You'll always find some very random stuff and possible gems. This location is very busy but seems to be well managed. Some items are pretty rough or dirty though and the price doesn't always make sense. Plenty of parking available in multiple lots. Very convenient business hours.
