If you've never visited, it's worth the trip! The current exhibit "Urban Arts Evolution" was excellent, exciting & very well curated! It evoked a very heartbreaking time in NYC, the start of the AIDS epidemic, which added to the energy & intensity of the vibrant work the artists created. The grounds are lovely and dotted with intriguing sculptures! A hidden gem on LI!

The Nassau County Museum of Art is a rather small museum, but the trails and sculpture garden are very nice. However, the day I visited was on a rainy day, so the expanse wasn't in its best shape. If I come again during the summer, hopefully the scenery will be more enjoyable.

I thought the interior of the museum was kinda "eh" considering it's $15. You can spend maybe 20-30 minutes looking at the exhibits there. It's cute and quaint. Exploring the campus was interesting, with different pieces scattered around and integrated with the landscape. I could imagine it's nice to visit during the summer when the leaves are more green!

Went on a docent led tour of the Gilded Age exhibit. The exhibit was interesting, with artwork, furniture, and decorative items. Plus the museum is held in a Gilded Age - era mansion. The docent, Kathy Z, was interesting, knowledgable and engaging. We also walked around the gardens admiring the sculptures. It was a wonderful afternoon.

This was my second visit to the museum. The first time I visited was for the "Modigliani and the Modern Portrait" exhibit. This time, I was excited to see the "Our Gilded Age" exhibit.

Both times I visited the museum, I was able to purchase tickets on site at the front desk. I highly recommend coming to the museum during tour hours. Exhibition tours are every Tuesday to Sunday at 2:00 pm. The "Our Gilded Age" exhibit tour was pretty popular, and our docent tour guide did an amazing job moving through the exhibits and re-telling the story of the Gilded Age. The pace was great, and the guide made the tour very engaging. There are multiple docents on site during tour hours, which is nice because you could come back to the same exhibit multiple times learning new things from different tour guides.

The space itself is beautiful. Although you must pay for tickets into the museum, the grounds are open to the public. It's a great place to go for a walk, especially with all the outdoor sculptures on view. I highly recommend going into the formal garden - the hedges, stone paths, and fountain in the middle make you feel transported back in time. There is also a lot of wildlife on the property, I once saw a deer! A great place to possibly do some bird watching as well.

Overall, this museum is worth visiting especially for an exhibit that interests you. I like how there are always new things on display, and even if you find yourself not resonating with the exhibits on view, you should definitely visit to walk the grounds.

Tip: You could also visit Cedarmere Preserve next door during sunset for a nice water view which was owned by the same person who once owned the museum's land (William C. Bryant).

Wonderful place to spend an afternoon! Beautiful art sculptures/pieces layered on a very walkable park like setting! Plenty of seating around the area for resting and enjoying the scenery! Recommended! Did not go into the Museum itself, ($15) just wanted to enjoy the beautiful day!

Four stars are for the grounds & trails. Two stars for the actual Art Museum/
Collections. Art is very subjective, we all know that. Just expected a little more from this location. Few rooms with works from limited artists.

We didn't do the museum but walked the grounds and checked out the main house (no charge). The current artwork displays in the house were interesting and well documented. I would have liked to learn more history of the house itself.

The "hiking" trails were not marked at all but passable. The historic cottage has sadly been neglected for years. It has a lot of visitor potential but apparently hasn't been funded for 30 years or so.

Worth a couple of hours visit. No food or beverages but there are restrooms in the house.

Beautiful outdoor museum! Lots of beautiful walking areas, gardens, sculptures, you name it! They have a large parking lot for busy days. Really beautiful place to walk around & take in the beauty! We saw lots of people having a picnic, walking around, enjoying the outdoors.

The museum is lovely but the star here is the grounds. This is a hidden gem of a sculpture garden around a one mile loop. It’s one of my favorite places in all seasons. You can park and walk. It doesn’t matter if the museum is open.

I was at this venue for the Twilight Pumpkin on 10/28/2007 & 10/26/2008. The hundreds of jack o'lanterns I remember were perfectly carved. I was here 2 full weeks ago with a group from a local studio for all abilities in my town. I enjoyed viewing the gift shop and most of the artworks in the museum. They inspired me to expand my art. The tour guide was very nice and loved my knowledge of art. I enjoyed looking at the outdoor sculptures despite one in the group invading my space, which was why I didn't fully enjoy the experience. It's beyond the museum's control, but had I been in a group where all participants were behaving themselves, I would have enjoyed it more. I may register for some summer classes and look at opportunities to improve my art at this place.

Quaint little museum. Fantastic value of your local library has free family tickets!

The art seemed to be mostly abstract and modern. The kind you feel your kids should be able to produce. Several gallery rooms downstairs, then several more upstairs. Spacious mansion gives ample space, light, and ceiling height to make it enjoyable.

The outdoor sculpture garden was even better. The art was just as hallucinogenic post modern, but the grounds are fantastic to walk around. Grab a map before leaving the museum building (left of the door) and check off the exhibits as you walk around.

Small but nice museum with special exhibitions. The outdoor space has sculptures to see and benches to relax. They have some nature trails which I want to check out next time. It was confusing to find the main entrance because it’s not clearly marked as “Nassau County Museum of Art.” You’ll know you’re in the right place if you see the “Arnold & Joan Saltzman Fine Art Building”. I got a free pass which was easily and quickly honored. I was very happy about that because I would’ve been disappointed had I paid $15 for the small selection.
