I’ve always loved coming here for my gardening needs, so was disappointed to arrive yesterday to find it closed without explanation. Finally found a brief post on their Facebook page explaining that retail sales are on hiatus indefinitely. Olde City ownership — please change this listing and your website to reflect that update so as not to cause more confusion!

They’re out of business and their phone number doesn’t work. I Ubered all the way here just for the place to be abandoned.

Wow. Wow. Wow. What a treat to find on a visit in the city. Never did I think so much could be packed into such a space! Any and everything hanging from the ceiling, the cutest little pots and planters and everything in between. I got some seeds, chunky mix and bamboo by the stick. The upstairs and outside hold plants galore, can’t wait to return

I called about bonsai pots, a representative by the name Cole/Coal answered. Very nice person, checked up on inventory for me. Good customer service. Definitely going.

I will not be going back here due to the poor customer service. The lady at the register was rude and dismissive towards me. Upon coming to the register I put my item on the counter, said hello, and she said “Is that it?” in a very snarky tone. It made me uncomfortable. She then asked me if I wanted a receipt or bag, I took a second to decide and told her I’d just take the receipt. She then took it upon herself to “correct” me, and snarkily said “Please?” I was so caught off guard by this, it was so rude when all I was trying to do was purchase an item from this store. She then silently ran the transaction and gave me my receipt, didn’t thank me for my purchase or anything. But I made sure to tell her thank you, all I got was a “You’re welcome”. I’m not sure what her issue was with me, but it felt targeted because she was very friendly to the people in front of me who spent a lot more money. I’ve worked in customer service for 8 years, I have never been that rude to a customer - do better.

Have been here multiple times and purchased several of my indoor plants from them. When you CAN get assistance they’re usually very helpful, it’s just the actually getting assistance that’s the problem. In store you will be waiting ages for someone to answer a question, and then they will be interrupted multiple times because they do not carry enough staff to manage the checkout and assist people.

Another completely unacceptable interaction, I would highly advise against customers on hold mid sentence. Asking them to hold at the beginning if the call or during an actual break in talking is one thing, but you literally asked me what I needed help with, and then put me on hold.

Yall already have questionable quality in plants, maybe do better with customer service. People will continue to buy sick/bad plants if the people selling it seems nice and like they actually care, like at least pretend for us.

I am very impressed with Townhome Landscapes thoroughness, attention to detail and all-around high quality work. I've tried other companies in DC in the past and found that they rushed through projects, did sloppy work and/or cut corners. Not Townhome Landscapes. I wish I had discovered them sooner! Ben put in the time, the work and the care and left my property looking immaculate. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Bought our Christmas tree there this year. After experiencing not so great service at a nearby gardening center, it was a refreshing change to shop at Ginkgo. We received friendly and genuinely caring service. Plus our tree is beautiful! Highly recommend.

I highly recommend you don't waste your time with this useless third party service. They have a list of lawn service providers and operate as a middleman between you and the actual service provider.
I called on a Friday and was told we could get service by Monday-Tuesday. On a gorgeous Tuesday morning, I got a message in-app (the only way you can directly communicate with your assigned provider) that they were rescheduling for Thursday due to inclement weather. Thursday afternoon came around and I both messaged the provider and called the dispatch. Never heard back from the provider and the dispatch assured me they would be there and had until 7 to complete the work. Nobody showed. Nobody contacted me. Friday morning, the in-app convo with the provider was closed.

With the amount of stress this has incurred for me and my husband (we have an inspection upcoming) and wasted time (waiting a whole week when I could have been looking elsewhere), I feel like Lawn Love owes ME money.

The customer service/dispatch operators also contradicted each other in the information they told me they had access to. The one flat out lied to me. I didn't even get the chance to waste my money so definitely don't waste your time.

Really pleased with the service and quality of the crew that cuts the lawn. in the past it was hard to get someone consistently to cut my mothers lawn. Lawn Love is perfect and always does a great job. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

UPDATE: If you love yourself or your property, stay far away from Lawn Love. After my initial review, LL reached out to me, offering to make this service free due to the multiple cancelations and being a week and a half late (at the time) providing service. I told them if everything went to plan, I would happily change my rating and update the review. Someone did show up, take pictures of my property, and provide a quote, which I approved. They never showed up again or communicated. I was forced to hire another company. And I remain firm in my initial review. At best its a scam, at worst it's a poorly run, unscrupulous business. You're better off hiring a landscaper off of TaskRabbit.

Refused to schedule without giving your complete CC (cvv code included) over the phone when I could've independently added it through the app which was provided after scheduling. Even better, no one ever showed up. I'd recommend this service only to someone I disliked.

If you need any type of lawn or landscaping done I HIGHLY recommend! Ben and his team were amazing. I had a huge bush that I needed cut down tremendously because it was growing up the side of my house & had gotten out of control. They took care of it and it turned out even better than I could have imagined. I will definitely be using this company again for any lawn or landscaping needs I have in the future.

The selection for plants, specially indoor plants, are unbeatable in this store. I probably spent over an hour here yesterday and could have easily spent more time. For me, I really appreciated their selection of indoor vines because I just don’t see don’t frequently.

District Landscapes was perfect for our small yard, and Sean was the model of professionalism and hard work. He helped us choose what sod would work with our yard after we lost almost all of it from a previous installation. And worked with us on the timing of the install and how best to order it. Hopefully we will never have to do this a third time, but if we do we will go back to District Landscapes.

I am two mows in with this company and very upset with the way our lawn looks! I didn’t believe the price was so low and now I see why. The quality of work is poor. The lawn “professionals”(. I’ve used two now, and supposedly a top rated one just left my home) do not do a complete or neat job on lawns. Is bagging the cut grass or cleaning fences and corners something that has to be explained over and over?🤦🏽‍♀️
I was trying to give my husband a break from doing it this time and they’ve left the property a mess! Why are lawn services so bad?
I don’t want a 3 cut minimum when you can’t get 1 cut right after two tries!

Sean was great! From the initial estimate, he thoroughly explained the process and his recommendations. He removed all of the previous sod and crabgrass, leveled our yard, added topsoil, and installed new sod. He also helped us decide what to plant in our flowerbed. Sean made sure that everything looked pristine before he left and gave us care instructions to maintain our beautiful new yard. I would recommend him without hesitation!

Had a Patio Installed and my driveway refinished and Both turned out great! Ben was extremely professional and detail oriented. Communication was great throughout the project. Would definitely recommend for any home improvement projects.

Our HOA has used Townhome Landscapes to care for the lawn and garden at our rowhouse in downtown DC the past several years. During that time, Ben and his team have done exceptional work mowing the grass and tending to weeds in our urban yard on a regular basis. They are detailed, reliable, and responsive, and a pleasure to do business with.

Quick, careful, and respectful. Never have problems and they work with our crazy schedule as far as getting in contact with them. A++

Lawn Love is the absolute worst. I did a trial run to see if they were reliable but they are the complete opposite. Here are my reasons you should stay away from lawn love services:
1: The customer service doesn’t exist. I’ve reached out to customer support numerous times they will completely ignore you and never respond.
2: The lawn services they hire are rude. I’ve reached out to the lawn service directly to give them the courtesy of letting them know I didn’t need services for the week. He gave me an attitude and sarcastically explained to me how his services “wasn’t like Amazon where it’s next day services.” And even if my grass was cut, they would miss spots.
3. There is a huge issue with the lack of communication. They literally discontinued my services without my permission and they never gave me a warning. Reached out to customer service and miraculously they responded. They said that because I skipped a few scheduled cuts, they discontinued my services.

Save yourself from the stress of Lawn Love. I guarantee you there is a better service out there. Hire a direct service and cut the middleman out. LAWN LOVE IS AWFUL.

I get my lawn mowing and maintenance from lawn Love, from Brandon and his crew. Highly recommend Brandon - very communicative, i always get a message about upcoming scheduling so I know when they are coming. If inclement weather adds delays, rescheduling is done very quickly. The service is top notch. 10/10 experience. I will continue to solicit Brandon and Lawn Love for my lawn needs and more - great work!!!

I am not a very adept gardener or plant owner, so I really appreciated how helpful Jeremy was. It’s a great neighborhood gardening center. Picked up a cute pot for my monstera. Will be back.

My regular lawn guybecame irregular so I had no choice but to find a new service. Searched for services and Lawn Love came up, so I decided to give them a try, also love the name. So far so good!!! Only my second service and the guys they sent are super super great! Because of my great turf maintenance (patting myself on the back) my grass grows thick and fast so I know hopefully I will have regular cutting with no fear of irregularities.

Sean provided amazing service!! He provided a consultation, estimate, date of service, and deadline for completion. He executed flawlessly and completed the project a day early. He was personable, courteous, and delivers well above expectations. During our project he maintained an impeccable work site and left the property in better condition (the whole property was left in amazing condition, he even cleared things we hadn't thought about or requested). We highly recommend this company and will certainly retain his services in the future.

I would give more stars if Google would allow it.

Used District Landscape for placement of new sod and weed treatment for my yard. My lawn looks absolutely amazing! Worth the investment for the expertise and experience. I was given clear instructions on how to care for my lawn, and they were very receptive to my calls and emails with any remaining questions I had. I highly recommend!

Ben is professional and responsive to all contact. That's important! He is easy to communicate with and he does a good job on my lawn. He takes pride in his work and it shows in the finished job. Hire him, you will not be disappointed.

Great place to buy firewood. Nice sized pieces that you can pick on your own for a good price. Convenient for those who don’t need to purchase wood by the cord. A nice neighborhood gem.

I hired Sean to re-sod my backyard. He is extremely knowledgeable about the different types of grasses and provides recommendations based on your specific environment/durability preferences. When Sean installed our initial round of sod, he was not satisfied with the quality and offered to replace the areas that he believed were not up to his standards free of charge. He is on time, shows up when he says he will, and very reliable. Definitely recommend his services!

Wow. Sean is the definition of top-rate customer service. He was prompt to arrive for our consultation and quick to follow up with a very reasonable estimate. Once the sod was ready he was able to finish the job in record time.

He’s exactly the perfectionist you want to tackle your lawn care needs. While laying the sod he expressed some concerns about the state it was delivered from the farm. Upon a follow-up check he decided (insisted, really) to redo the entire job.

Sean is DC-based, familiar with native plants and grasses, and was glad to take on our smaller project.

I finally had the chance to stop by Ginkgo Gardens, and it completely exceeded my expectations. There is a WIDE variety of plants, planters, tools, and more! During checkout, I told the man I was just beginning my gardening journey and he pulled out this book to help me with the plants I bought today! Thank you so much for the amazing experience and exceptional customer service. This isn’t the closest plant nursery to me, but it is 100% worth the trip. I will definitely be back soon!

Super kind staff, Christmas trees looks great, nice fire pit to get warm while chosing the tree...they should put a hot chocolate / Glühwein stand, my kids and I would have been happy clients :-)

Sean did an amazing job on our lawn. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable about DC-specific grass, plants, etc., but he was a pleasure to work with - professional, friendly, and kind. We are very impressed with his work and will look to use him again in the future!

Went to try the Spicy Water food. Delicious! Added bonus- we got to shop for a few perennials after a nice lunch of chicken, fries, and perfect plantains.

My first impression of this place is that it's a garden where plants are available to be taken home. The outdoor space is absolutely brimming with happy plants of all sizes so much do that it spills out onto the sidewalk out front. The indoor space has two levels. The second level is accessible by stairs and has a very lovely balcony with more plants and outdoor furnishings.
I didn't notice an ADA option to ascend. It would likely be a tough store to navigate anyhow with such narrow aisles all around. Parking is available on the street. Read the signs because some spots are affected by the school nearby.
They had a great variety of planters from basic nursery plastic to ceramic and even brushed metal. As you can imagine the nice ones are pricey as are the larger plants. Furnishings and racks can also be purchased here. They even have terrarium components. Literally whatever you may need for basic indoor and outdoor gardening is under this roof. Go check it out!

Lawn Love… sigh.

My wife and I had our first child about 2.5-3 months before reaching out to Lawn Love to help us with our yard. Last spring, we had sodded the entire back yard due to it being a dirt lot and wanted to ensure that the time and effort we expended would not go to waste. Plus, we just needed/wanted to take some of the weight off of our shoulders and have the yard:

1) Aerated
2) Seeded
3) Weeds pulled from the mulched areas in the front and on the side of the house
4) Spray the entire property with weed prevention

The 1st time (yes, first time) Lawn Love arrived at our house they aerated the yard, but left a 3-4 foot perimeter around both the front and back yards untouched. They did seed the yard. They did not however weed nor spray.

We contacted Lawn Love and questioned their work and requested that they come back and finish the work we requested. We also contacted our credit card company to request that the payment be held until the work had been completed.

The 2nd time Lawn Love came to our place, they cut the front and back yard, which we did not ask for. Normally, I’d be elated that someone had cut the yard, however I had cut the yard the night before Lawn Love had previously seeded. Per the instructions sent to my wife and I concerning aftercare for the newly seeded yard, “Keep your lawn mower away from your new grass until it’s around 5” tall, and don’t cut it to less than 3”, to help protect the tender stems.” Lawn Love cut the back yard grass down to what I assume is the lowest mower setting which was significantly lower than 3” and did not bother to bag the clippings. To put things into perspective, I filled 2 kitchen garbage bags with grass clippings left in the back yard alone. Needless to say, my backyard is now largely dead between the mowing, killing of the original seeding, and the amount of clippings left everywhere. Also: No weeding. No spray.

Once again, we reached out to Lawn Love and requested that they return to our place to complete the work we’d paid for. To prepare for this appointment, we discussed with Lawn Love the proposed work via text message presuming that by virtue of the instructions being provided in writing this time that this would finish the project off.

The 3rd time Lawn Love came over, they once again cut the lawn (still haven’t asked for the lawn to be cut), but weirdly only the front yard this time. They did weed, but only the front half of the house. We’d been texting with Lawn Love and specifically said to weed the front yard and the side of the house. We live in a townhouse with only one side yard; they never even walked around the side of the house. Once again, no spray.

Again, we reach out to Lawn Love immediately. Lawn Love agreed to come back that same evening and finish the job.

That evening, the 4th time Lawn Love came to our place, they did weed the side yard… only half of it. They walked past a 5’x15’ weed-y bed and didn’t touch it. They also indicated that they would not be spraying as they did not have the spray.

In short:
Lawn Love took four appointments to “complete” the originally requested work…
Performed services we did not ask for…
Scalped our existing grass…
Destroyed the newly planted grass seed that they themselves had just laid down…
Sold us services they don’t even offer…
…and still failed to complete 4 pretty straightforward tasks which resulted in my wife, less than 4 months post-partum and in between breast-feeding sessions, pulling the remainder of the weeds out of pure frustration.

I have been trying to maintain my garden but I have been to busy for it. Once every week, they send a guy that does the cutting and the mowing. That way, my garden has remained beautiful and well-maintained despite myself.

Ben and Sam have been cutting my lawn for more than 7 years. They are professional and the price is right. They do an excellent job and are responsive to any requests. I highly recommend them.

These guys are really good at what they do. They were prompt in responding and did their work on time. My garden looks amazing. I’d definitely be recommending you guys to everyone I know.

Wonderful selection of regular as well as unusual plants. Constantly changing mix. Also, garden supplies are good. Go to the very back of the lot (southwest corner) for bargains on 'distressed' plants. TLC will usually revive them. Staff very helpful. Worth waiting if they are busy.

Old City is an unusual establishment. I walk by it frequently: this week, they were still selling pansies along with calibrachoa, zinnias, and marigolds. The people are friendly, the selection good, and I enjoy the non-chain vibe. The place does looks abandoned during the winter.
