Cannot recommend them enough. If you are looking for a way to start in comedy, this is the best place. Really helpful teachers and supportive environment all around. Much appreciated.

Comedians were decent, enjoyed the show. However, the $18 drink per person rule is ridiculous because the drinks are TINY. You pay $16 per drink and barely get 150 milliliters. It's truly ridiculous. Just raise the prices for the tickets and sell normal-sized drinks for normal prices. The way it is right now is just an annoying way of making the tickets $20 more expensive.

Other comedy clubs in the city can do it, so you can as well.

We are so happy we hired the Met Players! From the moment we first emailed them, we could sense their excitement for us and passion for what they do. They were incredibly communicative over email and very organized in terms of planning for our wedding day. We had a lot of specific requests and they accommodated every single one flawlessly (for example, we asked for some piano instrumental versions of Lord of the Rings songs to play before the ceremony and gave very specific timing instructions for songs to walk down the aisle to).

The band completely understood the vibe we were going for which was a fun and lively dance floor, and the dance floor was truly packed all night. They helped us have an amazing hora, kept timelines on track by announcing speeches and parent dances, and ended their set with a great performance of Don't Stop Believin.

I highly recommend the Met Players for a band that's truly excited, fun, and talented! We hadn't seen them live before we booked, but based on reviews and word of mouth we felt comfortable booking anyway and from the first email we got from our event coordinator I knew we made the right choice. We loved them, and so did our guests because we got many, many compliments!

Great experience, excellent show, good talent, great music. We sat, right balcony first row so we couldn't see the drummer but still really good seats. The refreshments were a tad bit expensive as was the souvenirs but it's all about the show. Last time I was in Harlem I didn't make the show so I was looking forward and this was our last night in N.Y. , did not disappoint. Thanks

My review is more about the artist that the space, however the efficiency of the space made the event even more enjoyable. The staff was pleasant and chill.

We came on Friday for the Tiwa Savage concert. She was 2 1/2 hours late. VERY unprofessional. The DJ was good and did his best to entertain the crowd, but after an hour wait. They switched to another DJ. She was not as good at holding the crowd. All the while asking :Are you ready for Tiwa Savage?"

Then another hour wait.

I paid $250 for these tickets to celebrate my husband's birthday. He was very disappointed that we arrived at the Apollo at 6:50 pm. Tiwa Savage came out at 9:50 :pm.

We had reservations at SugarMonk for 10:30 pm so we didn't get to hear much of her performance. Very disappointing as we flew from California to visit Harlem.

I don't think this is right to have a headlining performer be that late.

You need to be considerate of your customers.

I’m not writing this review for customers as much as I am for the venue. I’ve been a long time stand up ny fan. I go to comedy shows all over the city but stand up ny has been my “home” club. During covid I was delighted by the outdoor shows and went multiple times. Lately I’ve been surprised how awful the talent has been. The shows are so cringe and people are laughing out of pity. It feels like they can’t fill the time slots so they just get any volunteers who want a break. This happened in the beginning of the summer but I gave it another chance last weekend and there were 11 people in the audience. The show wasn’t tolerable but I stayed out of respect. I don’t know why the club has gone from amazing to this. I know they fill the venue when it’s a “special” guest but for their daily/ weekly shows they can’t continue like this. I want to see the club thrive and come back to its “glory” days so I’ll keep supporting but it’s truly embarrassing to watch their shows lately. Good luck!

From the moment you express interest in The Metropolitan Players there staff offers you clear instructions, supports you through the process, coordinates with your venue and vendors to ensure an amazing night. If that wasn't enough their talent is second to none. This band is incredible in its musical ability, the bring the hype and energy to the dance floor. We cannot recommend them enough.

If you come to NY, please make sure you visit this cultural landmark. Sitting in the heart of Harlem it is nestled on streets with rich history. There have been historic performances there and still aids artists as a launching pad today.

Amateur night is always a great time. But be aware there's always something going on there.

This is one of our favorite spots to visit in New York City. We've been to the amateur night talent show 3 times. It's one of the best values for money and the show is always very entertaining. They spend quite a bit of time getting the audience ready to be entertained and I have never been disappointed by the show itself

I walked for 40 mins to get to see comedy standups here but I couldn't find it at the address. It was a building with nany businesses but not laughing buddha on the list. And I tried to call them and no one answered. On their website seems like their address has changed I hope they fix the address if they do that I'll remove my review. I hope next person doesn't get fooled by google map address.
I was lucky though went to a bar nearby for standup comedy and it was fun!

I am absolutely blown away by The Metropolitan Players. From the very beginning, my husband and I felt cared for, appreciated, and genuinely excited about the process. The coordinator that we were assigned, Mandy, was also our sound engineer and all-around go-to person on the day of the wedding. Mandy is friendly, professional, and patient. We had so many questions for her to make sure everything would go smoothly, and all of our requests were met with care. As a musician myself, the seamless logistics of the day (especially when it comes to sound), were very important to me. Every step of the way, Mandy answered e-mails, questions, hopped on Zoom calls with us. We were truly in the best hands and we felt like everything would be taken care of on the day-of. When there are a million things going on on the day of your wedding, you just have to put your faith and trust in the vendors. And I felt more than comfortable doing this with The Metropolitan Players.

Now, on to the band. Oh... my... GOODNESS, they totally blew our socks off! Our setup included everything - the four vocalists, the horns, drums, bass, keyboards, etc. The band knocked it out of the park. They satisfied all of our requests and exceeded our expectations, both musically and energetically. Singers and instrumentalists were coming out into the audience. Arrangements were tight. Singing was powerful and on-point. They made our guests, and us, feel like rockstars. Our guests made sure to let us know afterwards that the band was one of the best features of the night. We went for a more vintage vibe with a lot of funk, soul, and R&B. The Metropolitan Players DELIVERED.

If you are looking to have live music at your wedding, it certainly enhances the experience and makes it more than memorable. And The Metropolitan Players is your go-to band for your wedding, given their professionalism, high level of musicianship, efficiency, and just overall kindness and friendliness. Who doesn't want to work with people who are upbeat and pleasant? I would highly recommend this band to any and all of my friends getting married.

I have been going to shows at Stand Up NY for over 30 years! Every time I go I have a good time. In addition to funny comedians, the staff is super nice. And if you get there at the right time, you can even meet some famous people! Looking for a fun night out on the Upper West Side? Stand Up NY is a no brainer!

THE ABSOLUTE BEST WEDDING BAND EVER!! After seeing the Met Players at my brother's wedding, we knew we couldn't pick anyone else for our own. They did not disappoint. Their performance for our ceremony brought the guests to tears and their renditions at the reception were so good my father feared the dance floor was going to cave in. Thank you so much for making our wedding the most incredible night ever!

We had the pleasure of visiting the Apollo Theater with friends and family and had a pleasant experience. Upon entering, we did not notice any slip or trip hazards. The gift shop had several items for purchase which were good quality. If you are in Harlem and have never been, make sure you visit the Apollo and visit their website to see what events are being held.

Had an AMAZING night on Friday. Got to see 8 stellar comedians in one show, with a celebrity appearance (Ronnie from Daily Show). While it would have been nice to get a drink a bit earlier while sitting and waiting, the servers were super nice and friendly and efficient considering only 2 of them and crowded venue. The night’s flow was good, comedy excellent, vibe/ambiance perfect. Laughed a ton, so that’s what counts.

I am a new comic. I went to the Wednesday Feb 15, 2023 (5:30pm) open mic with Laughing Buddha Comedy at Parkside Lounge on the lower east side and I just want to share that both of the hosts were terrific, welcoming and very funny. The audience was super supportive, and there were good vibes all around from the other comics. I didn't know a single person there but by the end of the night I had made new friends and had a wonderful time! I'm looking forward to attending more shows and open mics!

I wish I had the option to give more stars because 5 simply doesn’t cut it for the Met Players!!!!! 100% the BEST decision we made for our wedding! We got married on 9/9/22 and our guests are STILL talking about the band and saying it’s the best wedding entertainment they have ever experienced! The Met Players bring the energy, start the party and keep the dance floor packed all night long! They can customize anything you need and will make your wedding feel so personalized and unique! Live near this place, went in for a show tonight (Saturday) that was being taped. I’ve been to a handful of shows, some are great, some are less so. That’s life. That’s comedy. This show definitely had some awesome comedians and great acts but the guy running it was brutal. It was being taped and the host wanted us to laugh and clap on command. He was doing little hand signs, just very forced. So uncomfortable. We got our check at intermission so we could bail and the server berated us for leaving because she would need to fill the table. But we were in the far back and there were plenty of open tables. This seems like a great club, the drinks were good, the decor was decent, and I bet with other hosts on other nights it’s great, but it wasn’t tonight. If I come back and it’s different, I’ll update this but for now, two stars is the best I can do.

We went on a monday evening, a free night found on Eventbrite. Being from Belgium and English not being our native language, we were not sure we would “get” everything. We were wrong, we had a blast. Staff was super friendly. I dont’t know about some other reviews, but our tab was spot on.
And the comedians were superb, really bravo!

The venue is spacious, plenty of seating options and one of the few comedy clubs in upper west sides. Friendly staff and excellent service.
The line up were amazing which concluded with Erik Scott who was super talented and pro.
Had a good laugh, will definitely come back to this spot.

Arrive early. Seating can fill pretty quickly. Often times there may be a drink minimum or admission cost but worth the comedy you will see. Two shows are often available as well- One that starts at 8pm and one at around 11I believe. An enjoyable night out.

This is a small/cozy place - with that being said, they have great comics! Loved the set.

However, the wait staff was quite disappointing. I got the unlimited non-alcoholic package with an order of nachos for 2 and they brought the check totally skipping my nachos order and second round of drinks. Moreover, they had the gall to expect additional tips over 18% pre-collected gratuity.

I would prefer paying the comics via tickets, who actually bring the business, rather than have the waitstaff take a cut for no reason at all.

Wow! We booked the Metropolitan Players for our destination wedding in upstate New York, so we weren't able to see them in person before our wedding day. WOW! They were even better than our wildest dreams. Hands down the best band we have ever seen and all of our guests won't stop saying the same. They were so professional, so organized, listened and fed off the crowd, learned all of our requests flawlessly, and kept the dance floor packed all night long. The band was so important to us since we wanted a fun party and we got the most epic dance party! Will be dreaming about this night forever. Thank you Metropolitan Players for being one of our favorite parts of our very best day! We never wanted the night to end!!!

I have had the pleasure of seeing The Metropolitan Players play at my sister’s and best friend’s wedding, so I knew we had to have them play at our wedding as well. They are not only incredibly talented in their ability to perform, but also in their capabilities behind the scenes. Erin and Drew are phenomenal as they guide you through the best package for your wedding and are there to help you pick the right songs for your special moments. The pandemic presented an array of challenges and Erin made herself available even after hours to talk through suggestions and solutions. I am so grateful for her professionalism, knowledge and patience. However, the hardest part of it all was choosing between the artists. They are all so amazing and truly gifted. Our performers made the night and we are still talking about how talented they were-in fact all our guests commented on how exceptional The Met Players were. And although we had to downsize from our original 9-piece band, the cocktail hour and reception never felt without. It was a pleasure working with Erin, Drew and the entire band and we highly recommend them. Thank you again for making our night truly magical!

We hired Marcia and had a fantastic experience! She was on time, very professional, interactive and most importantly the kids and even adults loved the show!

I took Jeff’s intro class because I knew I needed that push to get on stage and work on my material—I’m almost 4 weeks in and I couldn’t be happier with my choice to get started with Laughing Buddha. Jeff gives wonderful feedback. The class size is small, I perform standup in every class (and attend open mics for added practice) and I have grown significantly more disciplined with my performing and writing habits as a result. I think I gained very valuable insight about my own comedic voice as result of this class and Jeff’s feedback—for which I am tremendously grateful. Jeff’s class is a wonderful and supportive place for beginners and amateurs ready to put in the work necessary to refine their material.

Marcia the Musical Moose performed for my daughter's birthdays. She loved it and so did the other kids. They all had a fantastic time. She sang beautifully and the songs were just right. The theme-based mini stage was lovely and colorful. All the kids were very curious. They all wanted to be part of the show.. Kids and parents were very happy and excited to see the musical show....Marcia the Moose is certainly a must see!

This review is way overdue but, I must let Ms. Moose know how much we love you!! Marcia the Musical Moose was kind enough to entertain my children and their friends at 2 birthday parties. First, my daughter's 2nd birthday, in 2009, and then my son's 4th birthday, in 2016! The best part is that she remembered us. We also had the parties in 2 different towns and she traveled to us, no problem. If you want the perfect entertainment for your young child's birthday party, please do yourself a favor and book Marcia the Musical Moose TODAY! My son and his friends are always excited when Marcia is coming to throw a show. She took a stage on my son's First, Second and Third Birthday Party with kids 1 to 8 years old. They were all captivated by the story, puppets (that they can meet), magic tricks and music. Marcia is very easy to work with, very straightforward and always on time. Over the past three years we saw Barnyard friends, Jungle fun and Under the sea. They are all fun! Thank you Marcia for keeping our bday parties stress free and fun. I have a feeling we will see you again.

Marcia performed at my daughters' birthday party and all of the children were enthralled! The children ranged in age from 2-8 and Marcia had a great way at engaging the whole group. She delivers a quality program that I highly recommend!

My daughters and son adore Marcia the Moose! She became a family tradition, performing at their 2nd and 3rd birthday parties and then at their friend's parties too! She made each party extra-special and fun for all, even the adults! It was amazing to watch how she was able to keep the kids entertained and engaged throughout! I highly recommend her!

The children laughed and giggled. They enjoyed the funny and unusual puppet voices and characters that the moose created.
They loved the songs and we adults joined in on some of the singing.

Fantastic with kids

Laughing Buddha is a great community for comedians and has awesome classes. I took a 5 week class with comedy pro Pat Dixon (Comedy Central, all over NYC) on crafting a set, and it was a great chance to learn how to strip down your writing. Pat was also awesome because he made himself available beyond the class - we were able to email him audio of our set audio and get some feedback. James, the class assistant was awesome too - always made sure things ran smoothly and had some great feedback to offer to us (also a very funny dude).
The LBC mics are also unparalleled, they are so supportive and actually stick to the rules of no phones/notes in the showroom, and the hosts enforce it! Don't miss the chance to check out their mics or shows.

The History Channel world War II series may be the worst history of the war ever done. Visually British Bren gunners defending in snow-less woods against the bulge, featuring Russian T-34 on the attack. Other equipment goofs too numerous to mention. Content..Gives the impression that Roosevelt ordered Patton to attack the bulge direct from the dummy army in England and ignores the race across that France that could have ended the war in fall of 1944. The history channel and American Heroes Channel have have done many excellent programs on WW II. If you are serious about WW II don't waste time with this absurdity.

Just plan ahead and get into the Cellar instead of coming here. If they have to put people on the street to get you to come to this show, it's not going to be a good show. The other two venues on the street have lines for a reason.

I have been doing Laughing Buddha Comedy open mics for the past six months. It is a great environment and is as advertised. You can practice your routines, break in new material, and meet other aspiring comedians who will help you along. You will be encouraged and maybe even critiqued. If your stuff is good, you will know it and, if not, you will at least be met with polite quiteness.

Another great feature is the good structure of the open mics. They start on time, there is not favoritism, and you will get exactly the amount of time that you are promised.

Another important feature: you are not allowed to make fun of middle-aged bald guys trying to recapture their dreams of being the next Jonathon Winters (Hey a guy can dream can't he?)

$20 cover, seating downstairs was not stellar but the overall experience & hilarious comedians made it totally worth it. Highly recommend!

I am a comedy novice and was lucky enough to find out about Laughing Buddha Comedy early on. Jeff Lawrence and the entire staff are wonderful and very supportive. Every open mic that I have attended has been a positive experience as Laughing Buddha fosters an atmosphere of mutual support for comics at all levels.

I have also attended a couple of workshops run by Jeff Lawrence which have been very informative, helpful and most of all, enjoyable. Jeff is a pro and treats all with respect. I highly recommend Laughing Buddha Comedy for anyone with an interest in the stand up world.

I have been doing comedy for about a year and have taken classes from 3 different places. My favorite is Laughing Buddha Comedy School, because I didn't feel like I was learning how to be funny for someone else, I was asked to look at myself and talk about me. It makes my humor honest and meaningful. I speak from my mind and my heart.

The classes covered multiple aspects of stand up comedy and were super informative. I got stage time at the Laughing Buddha mics to practice my material in front of people. Jeff is very direct and tells it like it is. I was asked to think about the stuff I bring up and why it's important to me. It was fun and challenging. I am so excited to keep developing better and better material.

On my recent trip to NYC Johnny McCarthy and Rick Shapiro took me to the Comedy Village (among other comedy clubs) And hands down they had the BEST line up and it was by far one of the most enjoyable experiences of my trip!
