We found a cardinal with a damaged wing in our backyard and brought it here. I hope the little bird was well taken care of.
Such a nice place, super responsive when doing intake. Thank you for all that you do. Hope my little opossum friend heals soon!
A beautiful local nature museum, hiking trails & education center! We came for a short hike over the holiday weekend and enjoyed ourselves! Many different hikes to choose from flat, moderate to hard. It's definitely a nice option when we're ready for a nice hike in our neighborhood!
Every Science teacher in Philadelphia should be taking advantage of this amazing local resource! Talk about the ultimate field trip! My fifth graders had an amazing, informative and super-engaging experience. Field trips are lead by a team of expert environmental educators who have created a curriculum that is incredibly thoughtful, fun and standards-aligned.

There are programs for all ages, K-12. (Preschool too!) Available topics include sustainability, ecosystems, trees, soil and many more! Grant funding was available for my Title I school, making the trip completely free! The Center is also open to the public year-round!

The folks at The Schuylkill Center are absolute pros! Each person has their own expertise and specialty; they were all so knowledgeable! Our bus was met by the staff at the Welcome Center. After bathroom and water breaks, they did a circle-up to go over expectations. We separated into small groups and cycled through four stations over the course of the morning, hiking from one station to another.

After lunch at the pavilion, we hiked as a group to the Forest Free Play area, which is an awesome pine grove that is set up for tree climbing, fort building and general exploring. The kids had an absolute BLAST! It was so fun!

Shoutout to Teachers Sam, Sky, Jason, Declan, Amelia and all of the hardworking folks who are so dedicated to preserving a true Philadelphia Treasure! Can't wait to come back!
Wonderful people who graciously spend their time serving vulnerable creatures. Appreciate the kindness shown to us and to an injured animal we brought in. Thank you for all you do!
I’ve found myself two times at this location for a bird in serious need of help. Each time they accepted the bird and helped right away. Love this place and their mission to help wildlife.
Wonderful mission for the wildlife rescue center. Hope they do not sell land. Dropped off 2 fur items for babies to sleep on.

The land is not well tended in the extended areas. They probably need volunteers to do that. Give it a shot...wacking vines and trash trees down is fun......
I like the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education. It has great programming and beautiful grounds, but there are also a few things that could be improved.

First, they've added several trails and ponds. In the previous Summers, I had a few run-ins with ground bees.

The second thing is that their programming is excellent, friendly staff and volunteers, and the grounds are beautiful.

Schuylkill center focuses on a few ecologically connected exercises. From preschool to plant deals, and homestead plots to simple climbing, something kids and adults can equally be benefitted from.
Love my organic Garden however it was HOT yesterday.
I've been taking hikes here at this Schuylkill center for years now and it just keeps getting better!! They've added several trails and ponds I have had a few run-ins with ground bees in the previous Summers but no injuries thank goodness 🐝 I definitely recommend stopping by this Google center and taking a nice walk it's great in any season!
I love the outdoors and went on a nice little hike. The weather was a little chilly but it was a beautiful day. The woman in the picture is Rebecca Dhondt. She used to work here and has many fond memories.
Went for two events centered around the mudhif installation. Excellent programming, friendly staff and volunteers, and the grounds are beautiful. The dedicated, knowledgeable team at the wildlife clinic are also a credit to the mission of the center.
Great experience. Very well trained and communities staff. I found pigeon whose wings was broken. They took the pigeon same day I called. I went and drop off in box. Very good team. Very knowledgeable team. Great work! And very quick process of dropping the bird there
My dogs found a rabbit nest in the middle of our fenced lawn a few days ago. We called two rehab facilities close to our home, one of which advised us to remove the nest (wearing gloves/ try not to handle the babies as much as possible) just to the other side of the fence so dogs are no longer a threat, and the mother would likely find them since they’re close by. Both organizations advised us they were full, and would not be able to take the babies in.
Called Schuylkill tonight for some advise, as it doesn’t seem mama is coming back (the dogs, who are two hunting dogs, definitely chased her out of the yard before). The man on the phone was extremely condescending, even after I explained the situation and outlined the precautions we took and the advise of other rehab centers. He ended with telling me I needed to bring them to another rehab facility (that although is in my county, is still an hour away) tonight, that I should have called three days ago when the dogs first found the nest, AND insisted that there’s a way the dogs can co exist with the rabbits in the yard to allow for the nest to remain undisturbed.

I have two high energy hunting dogs, who unfortunately in this case, were simply following instinct. Unless I took the next 14+ days off to manage the dogs and the new wildlife in the backyard at the same time, or hired an extra dog walker to make several more visits to my house throughout the day, my dogs coexisting without destroying the nest is not realistic or feasible.

I hope this gentleman was simply having a bad day, and doesn’t treat everyone who calls in needing wildlife help this way. We were simply trying to get the best care possible for the babies, following previous advise from other wildlife facilities. Instead we were disrespected, scolded, and made to feel as if we and our dogs were absolutely terrible.
A well established yet easily overlooked green space in Philadelphia, the Schuylkill center offers a number of environmentally linked activities. From preschool to plant sales, and farm plots to easy hiking, there's something for everyone.
The helped us with an obviously injured owl that I witnessed being struck by a vehicle while driving. It was not only a Sunday afternoon, but a holiday as well. It was the only rescue that answered the phone and the woman offered to stay open until I arrived. They quickly assessed the animal on arrival and were compassionate towards me as well. A very positive experience and will support this wonderful organization in the future.
