This place is super cute and they take great care of an odd assortment of animals.
Don was especially great. He was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all the animals. Truly a delight!

Great place! The people were so informative and caring. I can’t wait to go back and see the animals again.

Steve the owner explained that NY State took his big animals when his wife passed. But he is exceptionally educated about the animals, birds and insects. He takes a donation. I was thrilled to see 2 Eurasian owls with orange eyes!

Very informative staff and organization with a selfless cause. Depending on when you go, the animals at the refuge may vary. When we visited, new enclosures were being constructed. Great place to visit on a sunny day. There are nature trails as well (optional). Steve was very informative, but there is very little about each animal's personal story and how/why they arrived at the refuge on display unless you asked someone.

Great opportunity to teach kids about local adirondack wildlife conservation. The speakers were very knowledgeable and willing to take the time to engage visitors. The animals are well cared for and the grounds appear clean and well managed. This is a must stop in the Lake Placid area. Our family will certainly be returning when we visit the area again. Highly recommended.

Wonderful experience. Staff was attentive to all the animals needs and along with wild desires. Donations were accepted at the door, as you felt was appropriate. Was able to see many animals including bears, owls, and coyotes, many more too. Highly recommend this experience was approximately 30-50 minutes. Walk was not too strenuous and well paved for most part. There is an educational experience which includes a lecture with the tour at certain times of the day!

Absolutely wonderful place. The animals are exciting to see an quite the variety. The trails are really nice too if you just want to take a short nature hike while you're there. Donations are requested but it is free to visit otherwise. Really enjoyed our time there

This was the nicest sanctuary I've ever visited. The people that worked their were wonderful and very generous with all their knowledge. I meet many of the employees/volunteers but Wendy and her husband Steve really stood out. They really care about the animals and educating the public about the various animals. Steve was in with the wolves and was so kind even to 2 separate idiots who brought their dogs to " bond" with the wolves stood in front of their enclosure. It is amazing how stupid some people can be, but he did not get mad just very kindly tried to explain how the omega wolf who was showing interest in someones goldendoodle would be punished by the alpha male because of this interest .The idiots did not get the hint and then their dog barked at the wolves, not so bright. Of course they were in a cage, but why would these people stay after hearing the wolf would be in trouble by the alpha wolf. Steve was so much nicer to these folks than I would have been.
The whole sanctuary was so interesting the staff friendly and a definite highlight of my trip to the Adirondacks.
They had great photographs ready to frame, even matted at extreamly reasonable rates .
There is nothing of more value in the area, you pay what you think it was worth, they did have suggested guidelines, but I would say any price was a bargain for the amount I learned that day.
I went with a group of adults but kids would love the place, the ones I saw were well behaved which was nice not to have loud running kids banging on the fencing. I would suggest leaving house pets at home, it only upsets the animals, I'm sure the peoples pets were not that happy about being there either, especially the 10 pound dog the owners had to hold since it did not want to walk by the coyotes.
