This castle was built in the 1100 to make a statement. I'm the boss and this is my home.

The walk around and inside the castle is not recommended for anyone with a walking problem or a wheelchair..
The castle itself has only a few exhibits but they are worth seeing.

The view from the top is amazing

What an amazing experience. The audio guide is brilliant and really helps share the history of this amazingly well preserved castle. Best attraction in Gent, but not the only!

Walked in to get tickets and had to wait half an hour. Would recommend to purchase timed tickets in advance. The audio guide was something different I suppose as it’s apparently narrated by a comedian but it certainly kept us entertained during the self guided tour around the castle.

Oh I was so disappointed… the castle looks fantastic from outside and on pictures but the inside was soulless and empty. Only in 1 hall you could see some weaponry. It was not even mentioned were they were found. The explanation on the cards was though interesting. Note that there are many stairs in the castle. If you’re not in a good physical condition, you’d have problems going up. All the spaces were just empty and looked like each other. Such a pity to waste so much space! You have a great view of Ghent at the top. Also, the entrance of the castle itself was not clear. You could see a board on which it was written ‘audio guide’ and then you have to guess …

Very nice castle. Audio guide, as stated by others is amusing and different but still helpful. Narrated by a comedian,

Also, apparently the first fireplace in Ghent...

We turned up in the afternoon and found thete were no more tickets left, so possibly worth booking online in advance.

Castle was great, and the audio guide was very good and funny and presented by a Belgian comedian. The history and information were very interesting and we highly recommend a visit and experience it. The views from the roof of the castle are exemplary and detailed ...

Definitely worth the visit. Especially for the audio guided tour. Having a comedian narrate the history was a stroke of brilliance. Kids get a simplified map of sorts and adults get a funny audio guide full of innuendos. The entry timings are fixed so book your slots early.

My favorite castle tour so far in Europe. They have done a great job with the audio tour and the exhibits as well. Loved the whole story telling going step by step throughout the castle.

I wish all castles follow their lead.

We bought the tickets online and the entry process was self automated entry by scanning online bar codes.

Kids under 12 are free.

It is an interesting place to visit and a historically educational place. You will see the city from a bird's eye view.

4-star experience for me, as it's definitely not that impressive for the tax you pay. Nice view and some floors of small history and bells, but overall that's it.
Something to note: try to be on the second floor around exact hour like xx:00 to hear really nice music coming from the bell!

Beautiful view of the Ghent and close by cathedrals and markets from up top. There are around 250 stairs and they get narrower as you go up. So, preferably take the lift while going to the top and come down via the stairs. The top may get also get crowded if you don't follow this path because that's how the markers are set up. There are also chambers which you can visit while coming down that talk about the history of the Belfry.

The most beautiful place I’ve seen from all the traveling I’ve done especially around Christmas and holiday time. Would highly recommend!

Excellent experience, the lift really helps on the way up! Typically tight walking and steps, not for the faint hearted, impressive dragon weather vane and bells, amazing views even on a murky grey day, great history. Very good value at €11 each (Dec 2023).

Worth the money more when it’s a clear day! I knew that I had to go up the tower when the day was sunny, and it’s rarely is in the winter. The bell tower interesting stories on the up, you could even catch the music being played.

Good experience and view of the city. We came during the raining day and the small narrow passage on top was flooding. A little hard to walk while it was dripping water from the top.

There is not much to view in the actual tower. And people were walking in both directions on the narrow, slippery stair cases. Kind of scary but still interesting. I wish there were more exhibits inside the tower, especially for the price. You are really just paying for the view.

Very interesting. It's a 366 step climb to the top, but you'll be rewarded with fabulous views all around the area. There are intermittent landings where you can take a breather if you need it, particularly the drum room that houses the mechanics.
