Location a bit sketchy and there is not many seats inside but the sushi is good quality for its price point.

The salmon roll is $10 at time of writing, slightly more expensive than nearby alternatives but seems to be expertly prepared.

The braised pork belly buns are delicious and come with thick slabs of pork meat.

The fried rice rolls appetizers are also quick good and does their job to stimulate the appetite.

The cha shu ramen itself is slightly spicy and includes a sliced slab of corn which is an interesting choice, at first glance, it seems a bit like instant ramen but upon tasing the noodles are certainly higher quality than that of instant ramen. The eggs are hard boiled and reminiscent of soy sauced braised salty tea eggs, the broth is flavorful but nothing too special and the same can be said for the cha shu pork pieces. Overall 4/5. The ramen passable but the sushi is the main highlight of this place.

Um my first time here it was two of my children and myself. One whom of which loves Japanese culture a lot! Their food he wasn't ready for though! Lol! Ultimately he dis enjoy his ramen a lot as did I. It's really good. They're nice enough...and it's all authentic as I believe it to be.

Had the Veggie Ramen and Shrimp Tempura roll, broth was a little on the salty side but very flavorful and comforting. Lived their corn. They gave us hot green tea at the end of the meal, it was a great way to end the evening.

Left overs were even better the next day as even more flavor soaked in, oh so good

Very clean and friendly staff. Quick service and expecting a quick turnaround. The food was mediocre. Very light on broth and couldn't taste too much of chicken. Chashu was chewy and poorly seasoned. I wouldn't go back if I wanted authentic Japanese ramen.

This place is one of a kind, a true treasure trove. So sad that it is only up north, I was so kindly shown this place while on vacation and the ("Miso Ramen & Curry Rice") is to die for.😫 But I only got to visit twice before having to head home. If your trying to get a seat inside you have to come early because this place is always busy and filled no matter what because the food is 🥴!! Even placing a order to go trust me everything will make it home still piping hot and fresh🔥, Can't wait to come back!💛💙
P.s ordering online is just as great to 🙃

Verdict: Highly Recommended

Been here twice now with the new refreshed Japanese menu. Food is excellent with the new menu. Have been able to try the sukiyaki, karaage, ebi tempura and the seven fishes sushi which were all exceptional.

Service is prompt and attentive. It’s always a pleasant time here.

Ambiance is great, although wish they refreshed the interiors a bit but still nice nonetheless.
Perfect place to eat on a rainy day! It was exactly what we needed. Prompt service, generous portions, and everyone is so kind! Street parking only. Definitely the best Ramen I've eaten in Philly! 🙌

I went there with my family and it was the best dinner experience I've ever had! I got the 7 fishes, The hot stone wagyu, Hokkaido Scallop, Miso Foie Gras, Crispy Pork Gyoza, The mochi potato’s and last but definitely not least we had the Cedar-Smoked Shima Aji. I could not recommend everything we got more everything melted in my Mouth had amazing flavor. The deserts were amazing! The shaved ice was so refreshing and delicious. The strawberries were so creamy and rich and were my personal favorite, The Whoopi’s pie was so delicious and flavorful. The waiters and staff were the nicest staff I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant. they gave recommendations and helped us order. I could not recommend this place more!!!!!

Pod is back! If you enjoyed Pod in the past then you’ll love this updated version in the same place in University City. The decor is updated but the service is as great as you may recall in the past. The menu is diverse although of course on a Japanese-fusion theme ranging from sushi/sashimi to noodles and rice to fuller entrees. Do try the desserts too! Definitely recommended for a visit into the city or if you live nearby - a classic place returns and even better!

I ordered their signature ramen and the pork cutlet curry rice bowl. The ramen taste good. The broth is quite strong and taste good. You may taste the bamboo shoots quite strong too. The curry is good. A very good curry taste. The pork cutlet is cooked very well. It quite juicy and tender. In my personal opinion, the food portion is quite big. Compared to the price, the portion and the taste of the food is worth it. The staff is also friendly and helpful. Good eating experience.

I have coming to Dawa from SJ for several years. Fish is always so fresh and portion is very generous. Omakasa is my favorite! When you do book Omakasa make sure you come hungry! It is 22 course meal!

We came for happy hour on a Wednesday and loved the experience. The restaurant is spacious and street parking was easy to find. Their happy hour menu included food and drinks and we ordered the hot Wagyu as well. A little pricey but overall delicious and we would come back!

Every bite was a perfect combination of flavors. The butter crab roll and tuna nachos were especially life changing. I'll be back as many times as possible

GET THE SPAGHETTI!! It’s so good. Shrimp & tuna roll was the runner up followed by the butter krab roll. All good just liked the spaghetti the best. Had the cucumber sake mojito and a glass of orange wine both bangin’!!

Love the vibe here. It gives me the feeling like I'm in a Squish Game theme Kshow. Definitely a great place to hangout with a girl group and Instagram checkin. The price is pricey that worths the vibe but not the food. The staff are very diverse and friendly. Highly recommend being here for the vibe!
Now that I've been here, I am consistently dissapointed with other sushi restaurants. Chef Joseph puts a lot of thought into everything he serves, and you can tell. I'm always excited to hear what they just got in that day. I always order the 'chef sushi special' and it's WORTH IT. Every piece of nigiri is balanced and delicious. Before coming here, I'd only order salmon. Now, I appreciate a variety of fish because it's been offered to me fresh and perfectly pairs with wasabi, perilla, or sometimes nothing at all depending on what's appropriate. Also the only place i have found in PA tjat offers Hokkaido uni that actually tastes freash. I have never once been dissapointed here!
I will admit this is a restaurant that wouldn’t really get me excited seeing it from the outside.

But as soon as you enter, you’re greeted with well-meaning, helpful and kind staff that just sets you up for a good meal.

The sushi selection was good and tasted fresh! The dumplings were definitely home made and made with quality ingredients that I definitely enjoyed. The Tonkotsu ramen was suprisingly soooo good!

The place needs a bit of help with the aesthetic and to definitely compete with the growing restaurant scene here in fishtown but I do hope they stay and continue to be the gem that they are.

Great food, service, and ambiance – I might say Terakawa is super authentic. The staffs were also friendly as we were waitlisted for only about 10 minutes. I got Chicken Shoyu ramen which was good as the broth was flavorful with a rich aroma. I and my friends also ordered some side dishes like seaweed salad, chicken kara-age (the chicken was cooked just right! Really love their homemade signature sauce), takoyaki, and others. Also, super cool interior!

A roller coaster experience. Definitely not a true, authentic Korean dinner, it has a funky twist with its atmosphere, decor and menu. The menu seems to be a fusion of multiple cuisines. The fried chicken, was terrible, it was bland and tasted like the old cooking oil it was fried in, no seasoning. The banchan dishes are not free and are charged per plate, which were mediocre at best. The Ssam platter was delicious and wonderful, worth coming back for. The fries were some of the best I’ve had. The hand rolls were hand rolls. Next time, only order the fries and Ssam platter. Maybe a handrollnif you’re still hungry.

The best sushi I have had. Period. And my all time favorite sushi restaurant. One of the greatest hidden gems of Philadephia!

I've had sushi in Japan, South Korea, and all across the tristate area, and recently in Hawaii and Dawa still stays at the top. There are other places in NYC/DC/LA that serve flashy omakase, but they usually charge the equivalent of a down payment on a Rav4 for a single meal. Dawa offers world-class sushi and sashimi for a reasonable price.

Everything from the freshness of the fish, the clean aroma, the temperature of the nigiri, the texture and mouthfeel of the rice grains that are expertly molded, is great. Even the house blend soy sauce has a subtle but noticeable unctuous punch. It's incredible to experience how much the chef cares about creating an incredible culinary experience. I get the chef's special every time I eat at Dawa, and look forward to trying out their Omakase soon.

Though I usually focus on sushi when I eat at Dawa, I've tried their ramen, buns, and tempura and it was tasty! For anyone who wants to try some of the best sushi ever made by an incredible chef, I highly recommend Dawa!

Thank you Chef Joseph!

Although the building entrance is kinda weird, the lady is extremely nice and took care of our table super well, she also recommend the best thing on the menu.

The crispy rice has a crunchy and soft texture from outside to inside, they fried it. Topped with bluefin tuna and Serrano peppers OMG Korean style sushi technology. 10/10

Spider roll is also crazy good, idk how they make sushi so good with the sauce they have 9.5/10

Fried octopus is quite normal imo, they did pull out kewpie mayo as part of the sauce, 6/10

Ramen taste like Korean style noodles with Taiwanese style soup, it feels like eating the Taiwanese Japanese ramen back in Taiwan with Korean instant ramen noodles, no wonder Kenny likes it alot, not a big fan of there ramen but it's still good. 8/10

Meow~

For veggie options, their ramen bowl was delicious. They made it spicy as requested and it was right on the dot. However, I wasn't a fan of their croquettes.

My friend ordered their tan tan ramen and he couldn't stop raving about it.

I'd definitely come back for their ramen!!!!
Service was okay. There was only one person servicing the tables. The eggs were not very good. I would have enjoyed an entire corn instead of a slab. Pork belly bun was okay. Very pricey for the quality of food. Tea was good!

First time eating here. I can can say, I see why the place fills up so quick. Real friendly staff from the chef preparing your meals to the servers & managers. And the food doesn't disappoint at all. I tried there , Crispy Pork belly bun & Karaage Chicken appetizers & top the meal off with there signature noodle dish. Oh YES I WILL BE BACK 😋😊😉
