One of the most interesting and vibrant places you must visit during your stay in Athens is the Flea Market in Monastiraki.
It is not really a flea market except on Sundays when some of the stores close and people bring tables and carpets and sell all kinds of stuff from useless junk to antiques.
You have to get here early because after about 12 the crowd becomes impossible and if you want to take a break it's difficult to find available table at the many cafes and restaurants in the area.
Since ancient times, the wider area around Monastiraki hosted the central commercial and economic traffic of the city. Thus, during the Archaic times there was the Ancient Market, during the Roman times the Roman market, while during the Frankish and Turkish times the Staropazaro and the Old Market on Mitropoleos Street
Lots of shops selling beautiful local stuff. Great for tourists to buy souvenirs and gifts. Clothes, shoes, leather, ceramics, traditional dresses, textiles, etc.
You get cheap stuff in the market but be careful with some items because they may not work

I got some used and good 👍 items and they are working perfectly
It is very nice! All old stuff. Open on Sunday

I really enjoyed this market, especially the little coves where they sold antiques on tables. They have lots of booths and stores with new things but of course the antiques are what make it unique in the world. Allow an hour or three to really walk around and enjoy the sights. You’ll walk by Hadrian’s Library while shopping. Like nothing else in the world!
The best part of the market! Make sure you hit the antique stores!

A scenic route perfect for a nighttime stroll. Always bustling, well-lit, and often with some street music and stalls with local goods. Not a huge market but nice for a casual and quick walk.
Cheaper souvenir options available here for tourists. Do not expect too many quality options though, it's a quantity marketplace. We found some good outlets here for our spoils.

Please do note that most shops here close by 9pm. Some good restaurant will still be open though so choose your poison...

It’s definitely meant to attract tourist but they have more than your common souvenirs. There were some unique stores but also some regular souvenirs shops with items you can get elsewhere. We found a unique store where we purchased a one of a kind metal sculpture. I would definitely recommend to spend some time here.
Nice street to stroll for souvenirs. Watch the pickpocketers
Really great place to go shopping. Don't hesitate to compare prices before buying. Nice atmosphere.
So many stores that cover everything you could possibly need as a tourist. Some cheaper than others so don’t go for the first thing you see. If you can’t find the t-shirt you want in your size or print, some stores are able to print one for you on the spot in a matter of minutes at no additional cost.
Very vibey, lots of trinkets and gifts to buy. Lots of the same thing, but also variation such as handmade leather goods, art, and quality jewelry.
Nice marked, you will for sure find some souvenirs here. Be careful about pocket thiewes

This is definitely a place to visit but make sure you have plenty of money, time, and a good pair of walking shoes. You will fine, clothes, shoes made of real leather, purses, jewelry, food, fresh fruit, etc
Barely a market. Just a few stalls all selling the same stuff - mostly jewelry.
As per all flea market, please remind that cameras are definitely likely not working although most of the seller will declare the opposit. You are playing the lottery. Go in a shop, i would recommend photo Sofoklis

Great view of The Acropolis
Great place to spend your weekend! Lot of souvenir and gifts. Nice scenery around the main road. You can walk from monastiraki flea market to thissio and then to Acropoli.
Mad place, lots of stuff. Some things i wish I could bring home some is crapp, but this is a market, and either you like it or not.
For me, it would be great to just walk around for my self and just spend time.
Enjoy it...
Do not buy cherry at this market, you can not see what they will scoop out for you. We bought one scoop for 5 euros. All of the cherries are rotten and moldy. Cannot find single one which is normal and fresh.

Fresh goods at affordable price on the platform market, opens only sat from 7 am to 3 pm
Not many fleas but loads of touristy stuff for the discerning and un discerning punter.
Hoping to get that life size statue through customs as hand luggage somehow.
This is a very authentic flea market with much of old original antiques. The sellers usually don't speak English but know well how to negotiate. Best coming on Saturdays and Sundays.
Produce Market ( Laiki Bazar ) 6th Months at street of Michali voda Attiki, and 6th Months at street of Alkamenous Attiki, everyone can find here fresh vegetables, fruits 🍓 dry fruits, eggs 🥚 fish 🐠🐟 chocolate 🍫 toffee for kids, and Plates 🍽️ 🍵 cups frai pan 🍳 tishou paper for kitchen, and Men women Clothes, tshirts, pants, jacket 🧥, Shoe's 👟 ballet 🩰 Bags 🛍️ and lots of things,
Market with typical things to buy. Food, electric stuff, clothes, tools, accessoires...
Τόσο ενδιαφέρον. Τρελαίνομαι για αυτό το μέρος.
Worth a visit. And for those who are complaining that it's purely "touristic", well, never visit the Eiffel tower neighborhood with all the illegal immigrants who are selling you so-called French souvenirs from China or shops where sellers are as sympathic as a jail keeper. I know, I live there (in Paris)
Yes, it's a touristic area, but you can get the feeling of the city and the connection with the Ancient Times. Just for a visit.

Street markets are the best in Athens. Always fresh goods with reasonable prices!
The street markets in Athens impress me all the time. The vegetables and fruits are most from local providers or farmers and the quality is amazing. The prices are really effordable and if you ever had fresh oranges from Greece market you never want to go back to the stuff they sell in supermarkets. The traders are very helpful and friendly. Also taste the goods is not a problem at most of the spots. If you are on vacation you should try this unique experience.
A really big market. You can find pretty much everything and in good quality.
The market is lovely, very clean although very lively and nearly crowded even on weekdays! I loved everything about it! If you walk from Omonia into the market and then out on the other side, you will get to Plaka right under the Acropolis. Make sure to check those too ;)
