Lovely staff, super friendly and helpful with little recipe tips and everything! Wonderful meat! Thank you! 😊

Paid Ribeye price for what was at best Save-On Quality Rib Steak. This was my first experience going to an actual butcher for steak and probably my last!
Came in and asked for Ribeye steaks. Rather curt service from lady at the counter who quickly slapped 2 steaks on a scale that was higher than eye level, and I'm pretty tall.
They were wrapped up and I assumed I had purchased Ribeye steaks. It was night and we used the BBQ outside so only noticed what we had gotten after they were cooked. Check out the photo for the cooked result. Does anyone think that looks at all like ribeye ?
One bite and it was immediately obvious this was not Ribeye. Was tough and barely any eye meat on the edge that you'd expect even from a decent Rib Steak. Anyone who knows steak can see from the photo that this is not a Ribeye. Very disappointed and we will never be back.

Amazing shop we always get our Christmas goodies here.

Love the red barn. Locally sourced items and hard to find any were here else items l. Always fresh and the stir is always clean and staff is great.

all cashiers were on their phones, couldn’t tell if any of them were open to ring me through since they didn’t greet me, also didn’t tell me my total or tell me to have a good day.

I have an 18 year old homestay student from England visiting for his gap year. He expressed a fondness for sausages (something I rarely eat), so I went - of course - to the Red Barn Market on Oak Bay Avenue. I took a chance on the Octoberfest sausages. Wow - heavy score. My student's face lit up and he said he'd never tasted sausages that good in England! I hope they keep them in stock! The meat department at Red Barn is so helpful and the meat is always of a superior quality. That's why I always take advantage of the Barn Bucks offers! Thanks, Red Barn, for the huge smile on my homesick student's face!

Great local market.
Good sale prices and variety. Their SIMON brand Steak and Mushroom pies are some of the best I’ve ever had! They also have steak and vegetables and a chicken variety.
They also have a “make as you order” sandwich counter.

Great grocery store with lots of local items, including produce. Plenty of foods targeted for dietary restrictions.

This place has gone downhill, used to be great for fresh veggies and meat, not so much now. Prices and quality are the worst in the area. Meat department is very limited. 2 stars for the sandwich bar.

Love the place! Its where I go for those special products hard to find at regular grocers. Many local farms are sourced and the veggies are bursting with full flavor. Even the imports are chosen for quality and the freshness of flavor. I don't mind the occasional "bad apple," keeping in mind that organic lacks pesticides, wax and other chemicals. Staff are always helpful and friendly, and the general ambiance is one of a family run business. Their deli makes the best & biggest custom sandwiches/ wraps crammed to the brink with fresh veggies too! Oh, and the deals in the meat department will blow your mind.

I ordered a Christmas turkey from this butcher and then several weeks later had to cancel my order a few days before I was supposed to pick it up. I was worried about how they would react but they were so polite and gracious. I really appreciated their understanding and kindness.

Their products are just great. One suggestion I do have: please, place the ingredients of your fabulous soups on the label. Why should your customer guess what's in them? Knowledge increases confidence in buying. Thank You!

Went in for the black pudding, also got some lamb’s liver and the best scotch egg I’ve had in Canada. I saw the plate of them by the register and got one on a whim - they were still cooling! A little different seasoning than back home, but wow! Definitely worth the visit. Friendly, knowledgeable service, too.

Whoever trained these people to be courteous and friendly, plus so knowledgable, did a great job. It is a pleasure to come in and hear the stories from your staff about your products. Just today, Brandon was telling me how humanely the local pigs are treated on the farm: heated floors, view of the sea, etc. When your staff is excited about what they sell, it really shows. Thank you all.

I have had consistently positive experiences shopping here. I have bought the cuts of meat for steaks and soups, sausages, bacon, premade soups, sauces, and meatballs. They even made a Shepherd's Pie once. Everything has tasted awesome, been fresh and a joy to eat. I hesitate to go in "just to look" because I always end up buying something. The rotation of premade meals and ingredients shifts with the interests of the chef, which means there is often something new to try, but also means that it can be difficult to buy more of something you loved. (I'm still waiting to get more of the Bacon Corn Chowder) :(
I see a few comments saying that the staff are not always the most helpful, but I have found them friendly. It is true they are not trained salespeople, it's a butcher shop, so people should expect different kinds of interactions than those at a restaurant or standard grocery store.
Apparently, they have a BBQ on Saturdays in the summer, but I have always tragically missed it.

If $11.99 for a really average sandwich seems like a good deal, this is your place. Not as charming as it used to be and the butchers are now hidden behind freezers of pre packaged stuff. The packaged to go food is their priority now and it's really hit and miss. If you travel to other cities and see what their urban grocers are doing, Red Barn just doesn't compare on price or quality. Still a nice place, glad they're around but they used to be so much better.
