A nice stop for a view. Be careful parking
What a beautiful place with a bunch of happy memories. I remember my Mom bringing me here to tire me out when I was little. Now it's a must see Illinois attraction.

Had to stop because of the sight of a river paddle boat and the statue on the opposite bank. After I got back on the road heading north I saw the sign for the paddle boat.

You don't see the overlook when you first get into the parking lot but there is a sign pointing where to go. It's right off the parking lot and right off the river after you climb some stairs.
It's a beautiful place to stop and relax. It's neat and clean. When walking around, I have noticed that trash barrels where secured with chains. Initially, I blamed visitors, but on the second thought I belive that the raising water would easily sweep away anything that floats.

Easy and low elevation summit (0.3 mile that gains 60 feet or so) to a gorgeous panoramic view of the Rock river winding through this hilly area. The overlook has a sturdy and well-built wooden staircase leading to two different levels of platform where you can take in the scenery. It's hot up there in the summer with NO shade, so make sure you hydrate after lingering. Nice place to see fall foliage as well. I think open year round? Ample parking adjacent to the river with a slight sloping bank good for boat/kayak launches. There's a few picnic tables there under some shade trees. Make this visit the final stop after longer hikes in Castle Rock State Park--nice forested trails with bubbling brooks. Minimal elevation overall, so easy hiking.
Nice place to visit, it so simple to get to that we took my 87 year old mom for a walk up to the observation platform.

We visited this overlook twice this year (winter and summer). It's an easy 5 minute walk, up the stairs. In winter you get better view of the Rock River, and in summer its partially obstructed by the tree line. The views are pretty in both the seasons nonetheless. There are two lower / upper decks, and both of them have a bench where you can just sit, relax and enjoy the views. If you'd like to spend more time, there are couple of picnic tables and grills near the river bank. Porta potty only in the summer.

We stop by here on our way to dixion ill kids love to look
It is what it is. Viewed Blackhawk from both sides of river. Wife grew up in Mt Morris and was very pleased with the restoration. There are no facilities on either side of river, but it is just a photo op destination and a place for a quick picnic at the statue .
Located just south of Oregon, Illinois and just minutes from numerous camping locations the overlook offers some incredible views of the Rock River. Open year round you my just want to come back several times and take in the views during the different seasons

Great stop for quick photo opportunities while in the area.
Beautiful view. You have to climb up a few flights of stairs but to me it was worth it. Our dogs weren't big fans of the stairs as they're made out of metal and are open, so we had to carry our 60lbs husky just down the stairs as he did ok walking upstairs but our 9 year lab old we had to carry her up and down the stairs. The view from the overlook is amazing. Nice lake and you're surrounded by lots of trees. Some people were kayaking on the lake and we saw a few hawks flying by us, which was very nice to see. There is another overlook, much smaller and more accessible as the stairs are much wider and made out of wood, not open. It's a view on the lake and some trees. We also did Heather Valley trail that's a mile down the road and it was nice. It was an hour hike in a forest and some was walking through a field of flowers, which was pretty nice. There were some hills that you had to climb on that trail but nothing extreme. There is also a small overlook which was pretty. They also had a much shorter trail there that was only 15min long. Nice views overall.

A beautuful setting, with the powerful Rock River, where you could easily view the famous Black Hawk statue. Autumn here, is the best way to view this.

Except for the shrouded Blackhawk statue this is one of my favorite places to be. My grandparents back yard was the Rock River with a view of Blackhawk. And seeing him shrouded hurts my heart. I hope they get the necessary funding to fix him
