A couple small galleries to enjoy. The docent was very informative.
GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES
Fabulous small art gallery/museum. The layout has been beautifully designed and curated by Peter Lane, the paintings shine from the walls and I enjoyed my walk through. Worth a good hour of your time to stop and appreciate the fine artists on display. Lovely things for sale in gift shop.

I love this little museum. Even though I don't live on SJI, I have been a member since it opened, as I love their displays and the artists they feature. The three rooms of art are the "perfect bite." It is a lovely walk from the ferry and well worth it every time.
Tom Garrells' paintings are usually precise, detailed & architectural.

Looks great but it was closed on a Friday. It said it was supposed to be open. Rather annoyed since we walked up from the ferry terminal specifically to go there.
I really enjoyed how this museum narrows its focus for more impact. Currently, there are only three artists, and all are ceramicists, but all very different. My favorite is George Rodriguez' series on the Chinese zodiac, done with a Mexican twist with a series of collaborators. Patty Warashina's series she completed during the early years of covid displays how we all felt with humor and sympathy. And while Geoffrey Pagen's abstract tiles aren't my favorite, they are fascinating to look at. In all, worth seeking out whatever they have going on and well worth the walk up the hill from the ferry. There is a small parking lot if you're driving.
Best gift shop in all Friday Harbor.

I have purchased several prints by Stephen McMillan from the gallery by calling Jennifer at WaterWorks. I have not been to the gallery but I will the next time I visit San Juan Island. Stephen McMillan does amazing landscape aquatints with multitonal levels and some with multicolor plates.
I really enjoyed the exhibit by the local artists. It's nice to live in a community with such talent.

Small museum. There was an excellent exhibition when we visited: 'African Twighlight'. Highly recommendable.
The door said open but was locked and no one was inside. We went into another gallery next door for a few minutes and had a lovely experience. We went back and the clerk was there waiting by the door so we asked if we could come in.
She asked if we were looking to buy and we said possibly (we just bought a home and are looking for some art). She then asked if we were in college, to which we said yes, and proceeded to ask us to leave.

I love this shop, Allen is nice and can help you if you are selecting the perfect gifts or working on a project. Reasonable prices and an unusual selection of quality items. Love it!
Quaint, interesting, well worth the visit. Not big at all, but well distributed and with thought provoking exhibits
We recently made a purchase from Harbor Song, on a trip to the San Juan's. Mary is a lovely human and I appreciated her very much!
There are artists whose hands guide the creation of their art work and there are artists whose souls guide the creation of their art work. Tom and Mary are the latter. There's nothing wrong with either type of artists. This is just who Mary and Tom happen to be.
Mary didn't sell us a piece of art. She educated me on their process. Why they create what they do. Some of the ways they've drawn inspiration for their work. She let me pet their lovely dog (Dotty I do believe) and select a treasure for our home.
We actually ended up with two treasures, one of which we have prominently displayed in our dining room. Thank you for you contribution to our home and the experience!

They have a stunning selection of works by several different artists. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We noticed one work in particular and she quickly brought out several more pieces by the same artist.
Waterworks has some of the finest and most interesting art I have seen in a long time. Realist portraits, impressionism, to completely abstract. Painting and sculpture. A small space, well hung.
My boyfriend and I were exploring this beautiful island and had nothing but great experiences until we came here. When first entering this gallery we were kindly greeted by an employee who took the time to show us around and talk about the artists and their beautiful work. She entertained every question but when my boyfriend asked how long it typically takes to sell one of these artworks, the owner immediately attacked him for even asking. She said "some questions don't need to be answered." She made the assumption he was some sort of salesman who was being judgy about price. We love looking at art and this place was wonderful, we just did not feel welcome after that.
Great folks. We walked away with more than a few paintings. Really enjoyed their stories about the paintings.

Paintings, pictures, sculptures, postcards (you could spend a day just browsing those), baskets, rugs, nautical whimsys and more, all for sale, moderately priced. All in good taste!. This was a great place to start or stay on Friday Harbor...

When we picked up the painting, it was everything we could hope for and more.
Tom sends you a sketch before he starts painting and then sends you pictures of the project as he proceeds in case you want to make any changes.
I highly recommend Tom. He is a great artist and a good person to work with.
