I second what Brenda said about Mrs Civil. When she initially contacted me when i filed my claim last year everything seemed fine. I was due to get back pay on my case and she manipulated my paperwork and changed the date in which I filed which resulted in me not getting a dime. I contacted her in regards to my issues and was met with push back and rudeness. I went through months of contacting a supervisor. Only for them to tell me to file and appeal. I have heard nothing about my appeal and it’s still processing after 90 days!!! She ruined my experience and messed my money up that was needed.. and get this She is also the investigator assigned to my appeals case. smh Pray for me!

The only bad thing about this office is the adults who don't know how to control themselves in public. Everything else is fine.

I had the most horrific experience with someone that calls her self a manager her name is Miss. Civil, this lady is rude disrespectful and very condescending and has failed to do her job or many levels as it pertains to my case. My most recent experience with her is that she took the liberty to withhold my back pay from January- June and disregarded my overpayment waiver filed 10/2020 without an agreement to even repay. She also said that I would not receive benefits for October and forward going. This lady need to be investigated thoroughly. I really feel sorry for the residents served in ward 8 in Washington, D.C. She also told me that I should go and apply for social services/welfare until my benefits came. She refused to clarify anything for me. It was clear to me that I wasn’t going to get any resolution working with her. The following day I left her a detailed voicemail elaborating on all of the unprofessional things that was stated to me and asked her to transfer jurisdiction over my case to another service center where I could be serviced fairly, that was the only time I ever received a return call from this woman and my most professional experience with her, you definitely need a tracking tool when dealing with a person like her she needs to go we don’t need someone like her in our community serving our people. Please interview others that she has serviced.This review is to advocate for a community already underserved on many levels.

I’m having a hard time believing some of these reviews that are deliberately counter to the negative reviews. I have dealt with this office for several years and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve had something done correctly through them. As I type this, I am waiting for a response to my appeal to the decision to reduce my son’s payments because despite me giving them the correct information, they have incorrect numbers for my income. Also, they had incorrect amounts of what my son receives. I’ve been told I missed phone appointments when in reality, I was never contacted. I was told directly by an employee that the last person to be made supervisor, was making things worse than they already were. It wasn’t exactly a picnic before. I literally have an issue with this office every year. I once had a case worker input several pieces of misinformation to my case, which stopped my payments, and then retired. So to see people saying the negative reviews are incorrect is…interesting. But hey, maybe it just depends who your case is assigned to.

After making me wait in line for an hour they said they can’t help me because I’m not a resident of DC. I asked isn’t it a federal agency and it shouldn’t matter, they answered “I don’t go to make my drivers license in your state, why do you come here”.

Leaving a review simply because the past reviews are not accurate. I had a great experience here and the staff were so kind and efficient. I legit came In at 11:50 AM and I am walking out of the building at 12:31 PM. Super pleased with my experience, I think Thursdays are the best days to go.

My niece,13 years old is not properly receiving her social security benefits. Reginald Gatlin, 52 years old is the payee for my niece.He has been mismanaging my niece’s Ssi benefits for the past 10 months, since 8-2022.He thinks that the benefits belong to him. He is an alcoholic and a deadbeat dad. He is partying off of my niece’s benefits. This is not right! My niece’s mother died on 4-2-2021.
The maternal grandmother was the payee for my niece in the beginning of the Ssi benefits 12-2021 to 07-2022. Then, Reginald Gatlin wanted control over the Ssi benefits. The maternal grandmother did no wrong being my niece’s payee. Everything was great!
Maternal grandmother tried to be the payee again with the Social Security Administration. I have contacted the SSA many times. All we have been getting is the run around! No one is listening! No help!

I am very frustrated, a month trying to talk to someone over phone no one respond. They let me wait for more than half an hour with no response, or speaking to someone working from home does not have any information to share. Please, improve your service , and hire qualified employees. It’s sucks!

No one has been working on my case since I've been to the office back in December of 2022, concerning my back lump-sum payments..

Showed up at 9am. There was a line of 15 or 20 people to check in and get an assigned number to wait. As I got closer to the check in point, I noticed they had stopped calling those numbers. I was checked in at 9:15 or so and they did not call any numbers until after 9:50am. That entire time there were just 15-20 people waiting with no progress.
No line to check in by 9:20 or so so don’t rush to get here but expect to wait a few hours??
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to stay any longer so I left. Not sure what the employees were doing during that one hour period. But no one was getting service.

I've read bad reviews for this location but I actually had a great experience. I went on a Thursday around 2pm and there were about 15 people ahead of me in line. There were only a couple of booths open but the ladies processed my applications in about an hour. All of the staff were very pleasant and helpful and someone mailed my replacement cards immediately. I received them super fast. Thanks a lot!

Completely unhelpful, since I don't have a phone number or address in the US, I can no longer open my SS portal, since I cant be "verified". Also, cant act on behalf of my mother (who also lives overseas) because they don't recognize POA, even if issued by the State of her residence, subject to court approval at a hearing with her doctor, and her lawyer present, to enforce a POA instrument that she executed herself years before. Equally unhelpful or sympathetic, when trying to send them my fathers death certificate. I mean, I understand preserving peoples privacy, but if you live outside the US, despite a responsibility to continue to pay US taxes, they can't find enough ways to do less for you.

Not entirely sure why so many bad ratings. I found every single worker there to be considerate and nice. They even offered masks to those who forgot to bring one. Checkin was quick and ofcourse the wait times depend on how long it takes to process the requests of those who came before you. The elder gentleman helping me was kind and respectful and answered all my questions. If you are coming from L'Enfant Plaza metro make sure to exit in the right direction. It's bit of a confusing walk from there to the SSA office.

I wanted to take the opportunity to say that the experience I had with this office was amazing. Ms. King was outstanding with the service she provided related to finalizing my application. She was very professional, friendly and was able to process everything on one phone call. Couldn't ask for better service.
Sometimes we don't realize that these people are overworked and understaffed, doing the best they can do with what they have. Giving them their accolades goes a long way!

I went here to change my name without an appointment. There was a small line when I arrived at 9am. The wait is okay. I waited an hour and half. But the wait depends on what other people are there for. Your wait may not be as long or could be longer. The women at the window are nice. Mrs. P at window 3 was amazing. Thanks for making the process easy.

Really great and so easy experience. I had to do a name and gender change on my social security card. I had the application and all necessary paperwork in hand and prepared before I came. I showed up at 10:12, and had this all done by 10:45. Was even able to park out front. Everyone was kind and really, a super easy experience. I recommend coming to this office. There were only about 4 people in the waiting area and I was called quickly.
