I really have no recollection of visiting this pub, but I've not had any bad experiences at pubs lately. So I'm giving 5 🌟 across the board. Well done keep it up.
Had a cheddar cheese sandwich - unfortunately there wasn't much cheese in it! Bread was lovely though. Iced coffee was good.
Great pint of pale ale, really quirky pub
Our first visit, being introduced by friends. A lovely environment and very nice food. We look forward to visiting again next time we are in the area.

Great find. Lovely real ale, served in perfect condition. Locals all chatty and friendly. Couldn’t recommend enough👍
Like going back in time. What a lovely pub. No tvs no fruit machines, just great real served by a nice landlady. Amazing selection of ciders if that’s your thing. If I lived in bollington, this would be my local.
Very cosy and quirky pub with open fires in the winter but I’ve experienced them in June it was that cold! It’s hard to fault The Jolly Sailor. Nice staff, nice customers and nice beer.
Had a good couple of rounds while watching a live band, nice friendly place to go out for the evening
The door was open, so I went in for a delicious bitter shandy. There was general chat, no beery swearing or staring, and friendly service. In an armchair by a cosy fireplace, I checked my mobile, replied to some messages and reorganised my bag. After my drink, I went back out to the bright sunshine, refreshed. I will go back again!

Lovely little pub with nice outside area to sit. Welcoming owners and staff, dog friendly and good food. What more do you need?
Rude staff. Claims to be ‘dog friendly’ most certainly is not. My first time here and will not be returning.

Great pub. We were staying nearby for the night, read there was tapas and took a wonder up to check it out.
Beer is sublime, best pint of ale I've had in a while. Yes the tapas portions are big, but very nice, so no complaints for us!
Beer garden has some awesome views and the sunset was amazing. If we are ever back this way we will come again.

Didn't have food but the atmosphere was good
Yet again a delicious breakfast. Some might say its easy to do a breakfast but equally its easy to get it wrong. The food is always spot on. Red hot and super tasty. I must also say a massive thank you to the service staff they were so friendly and genuinely nice people. Service means everything to me and i will be back soon. Thank You so much. Atmosphere only 4 stars because it was very early. No doubt 5 stars later in the day.
Just a lovely pub. Great drinks (including Bass on cask with sparkler). Staff are the nicest, and a combination of open fires with comfortable seating means you can spend hours there. I did.

Loved the decor in this place, lots of artefacts from the silk industry in Macclesfield. Sadly the beer was lacking in flavour 😕
If you want a really decent pint & a proper pie, then this is your pub. Great small local traditional village pub, just like they use to be. 👍🏻
Had lunch here yesterday for a family Birthday, which we had had booked for some time. The food and the service were extremely disappointing. All the meals did not come out at the same time. We had to wait at least 15 minutes for each drink round. The Sunday dinner did not taste great, neither did the desserts. I would not recommend. Very disappointing.

Had the most wonderful roast dinner today. Home made yorkshire puddings, fantastically cooked beef and lashings of gravy. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble. Their tapas menu is also fantastic. Would highly recommend

We were staying locally but the menu in the hotel didn't appeal to us, hence we found ourselves in the Bulls Head and it was an excellent experience from the moment we entered the door to when we left. The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout the evening, the food was delicious - the best white bait I've ever had and the burger was also exceptional. The facilities were also clean and well maintained. Another big bonus is that it's 'dog friendly'. We were so impressed we popped in the following day for refreshments before travelling home. Thank you to Nathan and Ian for their excellent service.
Popped in on a dog walk to try out this place as its mentioned as good hikers pub. But we found it had a weird vibe going. Real locals bars and they/the landlady didn't seem to keen to us come in, got some funny looks... didn't feel welcome. Good beer though and a nice view out the back. Shame on the lacking hospitality.

We did the "Kids for Quids" £1/person/game if you start BEFORE 10am.
Incredible value as a result. After bowling the 8yr old in our family group spent well over an hour in the Games Arcade.
Staff are brilliant and always on hand to deal with and minor hiccups with the various machines.
Kids love winning "Gift Tickets" which each machine "spits" out as a form of prize. You "Feed" your trails of tickets into a counting machine which "burps" & prints out a total of the tickets "banked"
You then collect up your tokens towards prizes in display in cabinets.
Premise also houses Laser Quest and a "Jungle Jim's" style play barn. You can also have your kids party here too.

A very small and unhappy man would not let one of his staff bowl. Ot would have been 5 star but he is horrible. This happened in macclesfield

Wow, I’m not a rude person by anymeans, spoke to a girl regarding an offer which had some confusion regarding a 2 games for the price of 1 (was told one thing by a member of staff another day) this was resolved and was going to simply book for us all to come. When I rang back (to ask if I could book through them and pay cash on arrival) the lady who answered wasn’t the same girl and was extremely rude, not helpful and asked “is there a problem” in an aggressive manner. Safe to say we have booked another bowling lane elsewhere and won’t be returning.
A proper backstreet pub, lots of different real ales on, bass is exceptional!! Many, many ciders! Try a cider tapas board! Great idea!

They charged me 50 tickets for something that said 40 tickets. shocking job staff were awful an an appalling. Toilets were smelly and poo up the wall. Laser quest was supposed to be 30min but was only 27min. Never going here again

Called in with friends at opening time after a walk in the surrounding area. Friendly welcoming pub, good selection of ales and malt whisky. Bought a bag of crisps to try the food!!
Very evident that the Cotton Tree was very popular even mid afternoon on a Thursday and I am not surprised.

Took my daughter and seven friends to play laser tag and bowling on Saturday. They had an amazing time. The place was really busy but the staff made sure that they all had an amazing time. Would highly recommend going.
(Also they've got rid of parking eye so you no longer have to worry about parking).

Went for the Sunday carvery and having booked already we were seated and told someone would come to take our order, but after at least a 15 minute wait we had to find somebody to come to us. Although the majority of the food was very tasty, the parsnips were cut like tree trunks and tasted very woody. The decor leaves a lot to be desired also. All the seating was worn and damaged and all very dirty. Definitely needs a complete refurbishment program and a good clean.
The service was atrocious. Waited 40mins before anyone came to take drinks order and a further 20 before they arrived. Ki one ce to take food order or to tell us to go to carvery. We then had to wait at tje carvery as no-one was serving. Mum.whos disabled was kept waiting at the counter as no one was serving
The welcome was good and the area of the restaurant that we were located was ideal. The quality of the carvery meat, Turkey, Beef and Gammon was excellent but unfortunately this is where the positives ended.

Beautifully restored building. Very comfortable and atmospheric. Good choices on evening menu. Nice meal with prompt friendly service. Stayed overnight on B&B basis. Good sized comfortable standard room and bathroom. Bathroom ready for upgrading/redecorating but more than adequate.

Lovely pub, spacious and clean. Ordered our food which was with us within minutes. I ordered beef sirloin (£20) and my partner had Roast pork (£17).
My beef was well cooked and tender. However, the vegetables were the main meal quantity wise and so heavily salted as to be like drinking sea water. I left most of the food.
The pork, again was tasty, but such tiny, fatty slices x 2 that the main meal was vegetables.
We did give feedback at the table that we weren't happy with the meal to be told:
The potatoes and yorkshires are batch cooked (obviously🙄) and noone had complained today and maybe it was a problem with my palate! Even though I had heard people at the next table say that they didn't enjoy their food, and would not be returning.
As regards the pork: apparently we should know that small joints result in small slices and two slices is standard

The bill of £37 despite our quiet complaint was not reduced, there was no apology, and a service charge was added too.
After discussion the service charge was deducted.

It's a very quirky pub with an arty and decadent feel to it. Great atmosphere and even better ale. A must visit in Macclesfield.
Out of the way Robbies pub, good beer, check opening times before trekking up there!
Went for breakfast. There were not very many people in, but we were still not made a priority. Food was a buffet, and due to the hot lights keeping it warm, it all tasted rubbery. The mushrooms had just come out and were fine. Bacon was like leather.
Went today for Sunday lunch with my dad, great food and excellent service. Highly recommend and big shot out to out to our lovely waitress Paige who was very friendly and helpful 😂. Will definitely be back. Many thanks

The queue was so big had to wait ages. You really need to look in to a better way of queueing. My wife ordered fish pie. The waitresses said when the chef puts it out, she would let us know. The waitress did us, but by the time my wife had queued the pie was. We told the waitress this and she said she would take it off the bill. She never asked if my wife would like another one. So my wife had just got a few vegetables on her plate and she just ate these. When we got the bill we had been charged £11.74 for a vegetable carvery. Rather then £12.99 for the fish pie. We weren't told this would happen.
Waited around 10/15 minutes to be seated. Once we were taken round to be seated we realised the restaurant was near enough empty! So there was no reasonable excuse for us to be waiting that long.

The staff really make this hotel. Every star I’ve awarded was for them and their helpfulness.
My issue is I believe some of the rooms to be grossly overpriced. I was visiting for a wedding and paid the same amount/more (£180) for my small double room as some of my friends paid for their large and vastly more luxurious rooms. I didn’t even have coffee making facilities. When I checked out, I wasn’t asked how my stay was, otherwise I would’ve brought this up.
Overall, the hotel/pub are cosy with lovely traditional features in some of the rooms. The breakfast was good, though my poached eggs were quite overdone.

A great pub, really unique and finished to a high standard. Fab variety of seating, booths, high backed chairs and comfortable chairs, so every table is a treat. A good sized beer garden too, with plenty of seating - if the weather stays dry enough to enjoy. I appreciated the choice of beers and there was a good selection of rose wines to choose from - a much better selection than the usual Zinfandel or Pinot Blush options. The whole pub was dog friendly, which is great for us, dog biscuits on the bar and a doggy menu too.
We heard several people checking in during our visit, and were interested that all rooms are dog friendly too. Hopefully we'll have chance to stay over next time.

Gorgeous old English building, with rooms above the pub. Great atmosphere in the pub and the rooms were clean with plenty of refreshments, tea/coffee making facilities. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We travelled with 2 kids (aged 1 and 4). The room was spacious even with the toddler bed and cot. Breakfast was delicious but a little on the late side for us at 8:30am (as our kids were up at 6:15am). All in all a great place to stay. Highly recommended!
What a wonderful place the Windmill is. We were greeted with smiles on arrival, the selection of food and drink was very impressive and staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Six of us enjoyed a great evening of well kept and maintained drinks, beers that tasted like nectar and food that was cooked perfectly all backed by exceptional service.
We'd go every week if we didn't live over 100 miles away, if you are nearby treat yourself and go there!

Went for breakfast for first time in 3 years. Used to be brilliant. No more. Not only no scrambled egg, but no eggs at all until 10 minutes after I arrived. Staff appeared to be disinterested. I'll go elsewhere for breakfast in future.
We went to the superbowl for my grandsons 5th birthday. We had a ball. The food we ordered arrived on time. The staff were very friendly and approachable. The only gripe I had was the lanes are looking a little careworn. Nevertheless, Albert had a great day to remember. Would certainly go again.
We had a great experience when visiting this morning for my sons birthday. He just took his two friends so we didn’t book a party or anything, but they certainly made him feel really special and couldn’t do enough for us. The manager was very friendly, and even gave us a birthday treat. The lady running the lazer tag was very inclusive and even turned the music down slightly due to neurodiverse in the group. The bowling was all set up for us ready to go once they finished their game. Honestly, we had a great time and felt very looked after.

Fantastic venue. A good range of food drink and arcade games to entertain young and old. Bowling was fun and the facilities were clean. Good onsite parking bad great value for money.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here it feels cosy, welcoming and friendly. The Private car park at the rear leads to the beer garden and rear entrance. The bar is spacious and offers all sorts of beverage. Waiting staff make you feel welcome and take time to run through whatever specials they have. The food menu has a good selection available but it does need far more veggie stuff. Food is of a good quality and served piping hot. Bedrooms are above the main bar but still remain quiet and cosy. Beds are super comfy too.

(7) . £30approx 🍻 The Bitter is ok ish not brilliant I think it was the female landlady with private pub number plate leaving the car park when I met the landlord at the bar …mmm . Fab eclectic place, quirky decor and the best owners. Great entertainment on selected nights, but enjoyed the music on this quieter Tuesday night.
Good choice of beers and the service was efficient. Food was beautifully cooked, but I ordered the sea bass with prawns, which was only served with 3 chunks of courgette,one and 1/2 new potatoes and 4 cherry tomatoes. Now, I don't have a particularly large appetite ,but even I thought the vegetable accompaniment was severely lacking. My poor partner was really disappointed.

Main course of sea bass and prawns (£19-95) and it was very good quality but hardly any veg. 3 halves of small new potatoes and a couple of tiny slices of courgette. Didn't bother with a pudding as we thought they would be similarly small so just had a coffee. Had supper when we got home as we were still hungry.

The other meals being sent to other tables all looked amazing.

It's always great when a place exceeds your expectations. The food was better than we expected. The staff are really friendly and they coped with our 'awkward' dietary requirements with ease. Good beer selection as well. Comfy seating. Air conditioned. We will definitely be going again.

Second time at the fountain today. We had 2 for 1 cocktails followed by 2 roast dinners and pasta meal for my granddaughter which she ate all of and a dessert of strawberries and ice cream we had 2 desserts, toffee pudding and red velvet cake. The food was cooked beautifully and very tasty, the carrots were so nice. Very clean and tidy. Great room for baby changing. High chairs provided. The hospitality was outstanding. Great place to relax. We were expecting to pay way more, and we’re very surprised with the bill. Extremely competitively priced. Thank you for looking after us x
It was OK. I called in here on the way home for a last pint before I fell through the doors. Yeah, easy access, plenty of seats and it was reasonable. I Did feel a little old, though...
First visit and wow food was absolutely amazing. The roast dinner was delicious. Staff were very attentive and helpful. The restaurant was clean and very welcoming. Will certainly be back very soon.
Like stepping back to a former age. No frills - just great LIVE music, an all age audience that appreciates it and a no nonsence entry donation.

Popped in here while I was in Macclesfield.
Good cool pint of Bass, much appreciated in the current hot weather we’re getting.
Pub itself has plenty of decor and interesting furnishings to satisfy any pub crawler! And if Bass isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of other good stuff on tap which you can see in pics I’ll attach!
Recommended if you’re in town and after good ale, good surroundings and good atmosphere!

Its quirky layout with a number of rooms on different levels allows for great socializing and because it is on a pedestrianised street the clientele can be found outside on the street and in the covered smoking area as well.
I've been numerous times to Mash and the bands and acts I've seen have all been good and enjoyed by the many attending.
The bar area can be crowded at times and the stairs are sometimes deadly to those under the influence but it's always a good location for whatever type of event you're attending.

The decor inside is beautiful and well set out. Our meal was really lovely and the young lady that served us was very helpful with her recommendations on the menu. I had the chicken curry on kebab which was very tasty and one she said is very popular.
Only downside I found was the steps up from the car park. There wasn't a rail to use as a support as I have poor mobility and struggle with steps at times. There was probably disabled access somewhere but I didn't see any signs.

Absolutely fantastic food (portions were really big, how can they afford it in these days?!), great atmosphere and service. If we only lived closer we would be there every weekend. Well worth the trip though!
Lovely friendly locals bar near town centre. Lovely pint of Theakstones Best. Proper cosy bar. Small covered outdoor seating. Good choice.
A charming traditional pub that makes a nod towards the railways, with signage from nearby stations and railways of old. They have a real fire, live folk music and a sweet/ tuck shop. Definitely worth a visit.
*Update. The pub only accepts cash. They accepted card payments during Covid because they had to, but have now reverted to cash only. Make a mental note, as I forgot and the nearest cash machine is outside the Co-op

Excellent food couldn't fault any of it, especially as my hubby used to be a chef and faults lots of foods but he was very impressed. Beautifully presented, catered for a toddler too.

I had the sirloin steak which was perfect, excellent peppercorn sauce and chips.
There is lots of outdoor seating and a separate kids area with hedge maze.
Lots of parking available.
Wheelchair accessible.

A small group of us stopped here after a hike. Great little pub. Nice beer garden. The lady working was very nice! Pizza and chips were delicious.

Decent local pub. Pool table. Darts board. Sports channel. There is a back room for food, so good for booking birthdays etc. Food is fine don’t expect anything exquisite but definitely good value. Not a bad choice of beers, be nice to have more Belgium beers.. There is an outside space for the summer months. Free parking is usually no problem at Thornton square or the side car park available by the side pub.

Good beers, very close to my auntie's house. Only issue was it was hard to tell who works there. Other than that, the atmosphere is nice. And was never too busy, at least while I was there
