Almost everything we wanted to order, they were out and didn't have. We ordered chicken pizza, kids liked it, Sarisari was decent. I ordered the 3 choice, lechon, I had the burnt dried ends, mungo beans, was decent, and gisantis, which was cold and burnt. Husband ordered the pinapaitan, it was decent just, its served in a small bowl hardly any gravy, asked to have more gravy, she adds it to my bowl, which now has a saucer with gravy spilling everywhere. Our 1st server was nice and courteous. The other one needs to work on her customer service 🙄 when she brings our food there is no interest or concerns our bowls were plated sloppy and rice was cold. We left most of the food we ordered and just took home the pizza. Not sure if we'll ever go there again. I recommend you call ahead and make sure they have what you want.
My husband said, don't waste your time or money, go to Juliez, Elena's, or Thelmas!
Stink eye, screw face, and stingy portions are what's on the menu at Golden Coin
Always enjoy eating filipino food, and this used to be our go-to place. Like most places, the prices have gone up, but food is still delicious. Wasn't crowded when we arrived, and food came to the table pretty quick. Atmosphere is always nice here
Terrific food but a bit pricey for small bowl portions
My favorite restaurant for comfort foodies. Love goat meat...
Upon entering this restaurant, I was received with an attitude of neglectful indifference. However, rather than turning around and leaving, I was pleasantly surprised to see that an effort had been made to improve the food line presentation. Although, the hand written price altered signage was illegible. Upon ordering Mungo, I was informed that it was sold out but then a container from behind the line was presented and scraped along the sides to produce a small crusted over serving of what should have been added to the garbage bin. Unexpectedly, it was placed in a small serving dish and microwaved for reheating. Without realizing the scraps were intended for me, I had already ordered a different item, served with rice. Both dishes were presented on a tray to a cashier who proceeded to ring up what seemed an excessive charge. Famished and without complaint, I regrettably paid for what turned out to be a most disappointing meal. Initially, it was served cold and had to be returned for another microwave visit. Due to less than friendly staff, coupled with overpriced, below average food quality, I'll not be returning to Kambingan since there are so many better options. To each his own!

I use to go Waipahu location, menu selections for plate meals so confusing! Some choices they charge xtra for being a side choice? First place ever!! that do it that way! Honestly! I wouldn’t go back to any of thier location!! Overpriced!$$$$$ customer sevice sucks!! Food good! But OVERPRICED! And confusing and rip off! the way they charge?? For side dishes! The 2 and 3 choices plates! I radda go Kapolei!! Julie Z !! Reasonable thier price , fair!!and Excellent service! Food da best!!
We absolutely loved this place! We tried their Mongo beans, dinuguan, Kwali Lechon, local breakfast plate with Portuguese sausage, pinakbet, pinapaitan, longonisa breakfast plate, sisig fries, and pork lumpia. Then, we had the banana lumpia with Ube ice cream. All of it was delicious! This is better Filipino food than in L.A. and Vegas. The owner, Ron D, was so friendly and gave us a small bowl to try the Bichol Express. That was also delicious. We loved the food so much that we plan to come back before we leave back to the mainland. My cousin heard about this place from an Instagram influencer saying this is the best Filipino food to eat on the island. My brother also heard from his coworker that this place was excellent as well. If you want authentic Filipino food, go to Shay's.
It is a nice place. The unfortunate thing is that these types of restaurants no longer offer combo meals. You pay for each food item. A 1/2 lb cup of a dish costs between $6.75-7.75. A scoop of rice is $1.75. The rice scoops are pretty small, so you probably want two. That means a two-item combo will cost $17 minimum.

5/14/2022 Walked into Shay's 10 minutes after they opened because we were craving Filipino food. Hubby had heard about this place from his co-workers but we both had never tried before. He had Bicol Express and Lumpias and I wanted to try the Fried Bangus.

The guy who took our order was friendly and said it would be a while. Not a problem. We went outside to wait for our takeout order. After about 20 minutes, our food was ready and we were on our way home.

It was hubby and my first time trying Bicol Express and Fried Bangus. He liked the Bicol Express and I took a taste. Strong coconut flavor with spices & seasonings and tender pork. He needed a lot of rice to eat this one. He said he liked the taste but later he said that it was a little too much fat for him. I was surprised because he likes roast pork, chicharons, and other fatty foods. When I asked about his lumpia, he said it was just okay. He's eaten lots of lumpias so after he said that I figured I didn't need to try it.

I enjoyed my Bangus. The fish was fried perfectly and had lots of flavor. It came loaded on the top with chopped tomatoes and raw onions. I loved it and I hate raw onions but I did eat some with the fish. Yum!

I don't think we'll be back because it was pricey-er than I thought it would be for lunch.

4 stars because hubby was not impressed with the lumpia, the pork pieces in the Bicol Express, and the amount of food in his order

The only place in the Waipio area where you can get your Filipino food fix. The food is tasty and fresh and the staff is friendly.
Really bad experience. Called in an order for lumpia and she said she'll call when the order is ready. Went in 40 minutes later to pay figured the order should be ready by the time i got there. Told her im gonna pay while they finishing the order. She told me again she was gonna call when its ready. She went to check on my order and came back just to tell me she forgot to put in my order. Almost an hour of forgetting to walk 5 feet to put my order in to the cooks. Are you serious? How do you call somebody their order ready, when they not even cooking it? Then she said do you still want it? Are you serious? I rather take my money to a place that cooks my food when ordered.
A very informal place to eat but you can get fresh vegetables if your local. It gets busy at lunch looks like and a local stop for sure. A one off stop if your visiting.

Called in an order for pick up - lechon kawali (NO onions) plate lunch w/pansit instead of rice, squid adobo, and adobo pizza. Squid adobo (no photo) was tasty but chewy/rubbery instead of tender. Best thing: Adobo pizza does not disappoint😋 Worst thing: Lechon kawali was not crispy/crunchy AND had onions; I emphasized that the dish had to be remade, onions could not just be taken out because my cousin is allergic, but that is EXACTLY what must have happened because when I opened the container at home there was a slice of onion! Thankfully, my cousin didn't suffer serious adverse reaction.

Possibly the best Filipino cuisine in Oahu. Their pinapaitan is the best I’ve tasted. The Kari-Kari is a must. Service is good and friendly. This place is a favorite with my friends.
Great tasting authentic Filipino food. Cafeteria style serving. Always fresh.
Both the service and the food was excellent. Great selection Filipino cuisine and the prices were affordable I had the lechon kawali with mini adobo fried rice. The flavors are exactly what I remember growing up. More than enough food to take home the extra. I even ordered take out of the Ube pancakes.

Update: Value didn't even matter as we got sick from the oddly mushy lechon (or maybe it was the other super greasy items). We threw most of it out after trying to rescue the meal with rice and soaking up the grease with paper towels. This is NOT what Filipino food is supposed to taste like. Shame because it didn't look gross in the pans. :(
--------
Surprised to see that they put the small side order in a much smaller container than advertised on their counter, but still charged the higher price (grrrr, this is what happens when you leave & ask your family to buy something but they didn't pay attention or didn't want to challenge the old nanas taking advantage of this...), shorting each order by maybe a 1/4 to 1/3. Food would have been an okay value if they actually gave you the amount advertised for the price they advertised, but terrible value as they cheated it...

Food looks good in pans. Unfortunately, also counted 2 flies buzzing around, even though shop doors were closed. Did not see any flies land on food, though also did not see any door blower to keep out flying insects. The cafeteria-style serving areas are so close to the door that I would seriously avoid this place in the summer if they do not install one.

New shop is much cleaner than other Golden Coins (looking at YOU, Waipahu 2-story one).

No bathroom access visible but did not need it.

2 4-top & 2 2-top tables to eat-in, cozy but not overly cramped. No room for a stroller without inconveniencing other customers tho.

Clean cold/frozen case, well-stocked.

Charge cards accepted. No tap to pay (Apple/Samsung pay).

Free parking in lot. Few handicapped stalls. All stalls are close to shops, but narrow & small spaces make it difficult to open your door if you are mobility-challenged. If you have a truck or larger SUV, hope you have great spatial awareness or excellent insurance...

Pre-packaged foods seem a little pricy for area.

Had serious hope for this shop before I saw the takeout order. Disappointing. Will not return.

Asked a worker what the difference was between a few of the desserts they had on the counter, and worker simply told me the names then walked to the other end of the counter and began talking smack about me not knowing what I was buying, laughing the whole time. She didn’t even try to be quiet about it! So terribly rude and such bad customer service. Food is not that great to take that kind of treatment. If could give a zero I would!!

Fantastic Filipino Foods! Hot, Fresh, Tasty and Huge Portions at very reasonable prices! Even a military or senior citizen discount for those 55 and older. Pork Adobo, Sari Sari, Bicol Express, Lechon Kawali and Pork Adobo Omelet were all excellent! Pork and Banana Lumpia were all delicious too! For a limited time their Ube Pancakes were wonderful. Now our favorite restaurant, we will definitely be back.

Food wasn't great, good but I've had better flavored food. Price was decent but service/staff acted like they did not want to work. Don't think I'll be back.

The usuals of what you'll find at any of their other Golden Coin locations. They and neighbor Coffee or Tea are the first two draws for this tiny strip mall (Crossroads at Waipio), since the other spaces are either doctor-type offices or empty.
The dessert was awesome. I had the banana lumpia and loved it! It wasn't too busy when I was there. Perfect place for a Filipino food experience and they have enough seating for dining alone or with someone, they also have a banquet room. Make sure to check them out and to ask for their pricing. It wasn't too expensive but then I only bought a banana lumpia. It was really good.
