A huge building which they clearly have problems trying to fill. There is very little ‘contemporary art’. Rather a disparate collection portraying everything you could imagine from accounts of domestic violence and videos of gay pride marchers being attacked, to some fat older guy (presumably the ‘artist’) who had had his naked body photographed in lots of contorted positions. Not a pretty sight! Spare spaces were filled with mannequins, one with a superman cape, another with a white T-shirt and the bottom half of a pair of jeans. There was supposed to be a slide/helter skelter, which would have livened things up, but ‘no, it’s reserved for children on their birthdays’.
Overall, a very depressing experience. Give it a miss. We did only see two other visitors!

In this museum, I think a lot depends on the exhibition they have at the moment. The staff is really nice. When you finish your tour inside, you can leave the museum via slide, and have a fun ride down :)

This museum gave me the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Eastern Europe, and of course, especially the Croatian and Serbian regions. As we re-embrace civilisation after the collapse of the Soviet Union, we can't help but need to think about what true freedom and democracy are. Of course, the respectful activities exhibited in the museum about the treatment of the mentally ill were also impressive, we all need a world of love and peace and an end to violence and war!
The museum has a very interesting collections of Croatian art. Nice building and cafe as well
I like to visit the museum, I like creativity and innovation. But this one was not so impressive. I was taken aback by the fact what kind of things and ideas today are considered art, and I was impressed by a quote that I read here "... it is not important what you exhibited, importat is that you were invited to exhibit your works... " Museum is a very large space, and it is not filled. However, some parts are quite good and they awake strong emotions.
I still believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Considering that it was the Night of the Museum, there were not many visitors. I was also impressed by the set of random circumstances that I caught with my camera, which has a good message and depicts the perfect society in which we live.
While walking through the museum, somehow the fairy tale The Emperor's New Clothes and the sentence: "The Emperor is naked" kept spinning in my head. By the end, I felt like a child that said it.

Everyone will find the most and the least favorite set of exhibits in this museum.
Quite a lot of exhibits have historical purposes, and most of them are dedicated to Croatia's past, so if you are not a local, like me, you may find it difficult to understand the full picture.
There is plenty of descriptive text, too. If you read it all, you may spend several hours examining it all. Sometimes, an exhibit brings no meaning if you don't read what it is about.
If you feel bored, you'd better switch the set.

We wanted to enjoy longer the exhibition. Lots of inspiring works. strongly recommend to enjoy the art.
Great contemporary art museum. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. Nice restaurant with outdoor seating. $10 euros entry fee for adults.
Interesting mix of art. No real stand out pieces but eclectic collection. Exhibition of Sanja Ivekovic starts today, ends 2nd November 2023.
I don't agree with several of the previous reviews which I thought were rather negative. I think this place has the right balance of open space and art exhibits.
I love the traditional classic oil and watercolour paintings of the 19th and 20th centuries, but the joy of contemporary art is just not knowing what to expect. It would have been a fairly easy task to define what constituted art 150 years ago. But in modern times, to try and define what art is, is an almost pointless excercise, because by trying to do so (at least in the physical sense) automatically puts boundaries around it and limits it's scope.
Without mentioning any of the exhibitors by name, there is a huge variety of contemporary art here using many different media to express an idea, emotion, feeling etc. There is plenty of "Video Art" here and when you walk through a corridor of hanging thin tube filming as you go, you become a part of the artwork, albeit for a brief moment in time.
Keep an open mind, come visit, you will find something that entertains or amuses; maybe something you find beautiful or just something that makes you think. Perhaps this intangible aspect of art, rather than it's physical manifestation, is the best definition of what art is, in it's broadest sense.

This museums for Contemporary Art, like most museums for modern or contemporary art now, are like new cathedrals. Vast empty spaces in a large concrete building.
The art seems to get lost in those spaces and more often you are puzzled by the meaning of it all.
This museum is no different although sometimes there is a surprise work of art around a corner that strikes your imagination

Great museum of contemporary art!
Some years ago we went there for the first time, and we spent a few hours there. The exhibitions are really versatile and interesting.
This year in june we visited the museum again. Unfortunately a part of the museum was closed due to changes in the administration and exhibitions, but we managed to see an exhibition about the Zagreb Festival of Animated Films.
It was definitely worth the visit and we highly recommend this museum!
