They got solid teaching here. The people are friendly and the place feels like an intimate tight-knit community. However, as a new attendee, I didn't feel like I belonged. Even after filling out the visitors' card, nobody reached out. It was not my expectation, but I think that the best way to reflect love and care is by choosing to be invested in and taking the initiative to make newcomers feel welcome. they also take corporate prayer and communion seriously. I'm not sure to which denomination they belong, but I also noticed that they recited prayers, a thing I saw more in Anglican and Catholic tradition. Overall, they teach the Gospel with simplicity.

This is a great Church where Christian living is taught in accordance to the Holy Bible. The praise and worship is on uplifting, and so are the sermons.

Vibrant, inclusive, and true to keeping the Word. This church is amazing and always welcomes anyone to visit. Youth group is amazing!

Morning Star has been one of the most wonderful churches I’ve been to. It’s very genuine in the sense that I actively feel the Holy Spirit and His discernment at work in many of the people I’ve come to know. The people I’ve come to know in this church have been so encouraging and engaging, but also truly bold in the fact that they want you to grow. Truth is spoken boldly, but always from a point of grace that wants you to better be who God calls His people to be. I came from a church that didn’t have this fire to speak truth and hold others accountable, which caused for some very serious things to be swept under the rug. Talk about some church hurt. But God is always so good, and led my husband and myself into a community that truly cares for its people to model Christ, and model the Truth of the Bible; to set standards that they graciously yet firmly expect to be met. MSC and it’s community has been nothing but a place of growth for me and my husband, and I’m so excited to see what all God has in store for us during our time here!

This is a cult church, everything about this church is just a lie and fake.

This church is full of gaslighting bullies. I also noticed the gaslighting in the responses from the owner toward bad reviews. There is a lot of narcissistic people going to the church that dehumanize people and when you mention things that you would like them to stop, they make up things that were never stated to make themselves look like the victim. (This is a classic example of gaslighting) They find a way to make themselves the victim when they get called out on their toxic behavior. For real change to happen, these people need to stop trying to control the narrative and stop sugar coating things for the narcissist that reside at this church. If people were serious about change then they would stop using Jesus and God as a scapegoat every time that they are called out and it seems that the owner is no different.Transparency and holding others accountable without sugarcoating, and being self-aware of how your actions impact others is the only way for true change to happened. It is clear that people in this church don't take others seriously otherwise there would be no room for narcissists to get away with their behavior. I would like to also point out the fact that they've gotten so used to treating people this way that they have normalized the abuse. I call cognitive dissonance at this point.

After living here about 6 years I finally visited this church after years of people recommending it and I’m so glad I did! I am an introverted, artsy, alternative type that moved from a major metro to KS and wanted to find a place with meaningful friendships and teaching or I didn’t see the point in going to church. I have been so pleased and wish I’d visited years ago. I don’t feel like there are fake or pushy people, and they study the real Bible without any restrictive unnecessary things like dress codes or outdated music or ceremonies. The leadership is diverse both in ethnicity and age, and I have actually made friends with some of the girls here, which is a bigger deal in your 30s as a non outgoing person. I feel like the money I give is spent wisely and on useful things to truly help love people too. So glad I found a place where I can sit in the back w my spouse and not feel either alone or harassed, just welcomed. This has been a huge improvement in my marriage and sense of community belonging since We’ve started going about a year ago.

So welcoming and truly help me appreciate everything Jesus did for us. This church saved me.

This is not authentic Christianity. If you want to belong to the faith of the Apostles, please become Orthodox.

Some very concerning theological beliefs, and a very manipulative college ministry. Many of the Bible studies run by people from this church have been rife with Word of Faith, "body quaking" sessions. I've seen friends come out completely differently after attending this Church, and not in a good way. Perhaps its changed since I was a student at KU, but at the time I didn't feel the Holy Spirit at this Church, it felt very dark here.
If you aren't a student-athlete at KU, don't expect anybody to come up to you, either. It's great to have ministries that support student athletes. I just wish the ministry that did wasn't as theologically suspect as this one is.
If you are a student at KU and looking for a Church to call home, I would consider nearby Overbrook, Kansas's Grace Community Church.

Rev City Church has welcomed our family with open and loving arms. We are grateful for pastors who will preach from the written word of God; who are bold, authentic and who will fight for every precious soul to know Jesus. The worship team is phenomenal!! We have moved back to Topeka, but Rev City is our church and we happily make the drive to Lawrence each Sunday to be a part of it.

This church is amazing! The leadership here is incredible and so genuine. They really care about each person who walks through the church doors and helping them in whatever way they can grow closer to Jesus. This church has absolutely became a second family to me, and I would not trade my relationships with people here for the world! They are dedicated to raising disciples of Jesus.

I absolutely LOVE this Church! Pastor T and his wife Amity, Pastor Eddie and his wife Beth and the whole staff! The moment you walk in it is warm and inviting. The people there are friendly and willing to help and get to know you. They have a wonderful kids ministry and make the learning fun. But what I love most is that Pastor T preaches God's word from the BIBLE and shows you how to have a personal relationship with Jesus. They welcome Everyone and make an effort to help you in your faith whether you have never had a relationship with God or you are a new believer or a mature one. They are intentional on helping everyone to grow stronger in their faith and closer to Jesus.
If you are looking for a church to show you who Jesus is, I invite you to visit Rev City!
You will not regret it!

Since the first time we visited Rev City Church, we were welcomed so warmly! So many came up to us and said hi and introduced themselves, I was honestly shocked! I have visited so many churches that do not do that. We were invited to one of their life groups right away and felt so welcomed that we attended one the first week they started that semester. The time of worship on Sundays is incredible! The music is of high quality and you can really feel God’s presence there. Pastor Thomas is a phenomenal preacher. He truly is inspired. That first sermon we heard made such an impact on us that we continued coming back for more. At Rev City they have a saying, “We are family”. I can confidently tell you this is true.

I have been attending Rev City for over a year now and continue to be so blessed here! All three pastors are anointed and bring really powerful messages that encourage, challenge, and ultimately point us to Jesus. The worship and production teams are very gifted, and do an amazing job of creating an atmosphere of worship, encouraging everyone to really enter in. I’m in my 20s, and building community in fellowship groups outside of service has been very life-giving for me. I genuinely look forward to service every week!

My wife and I moved to Lawrence 18 months ago and made it our priority to find a church home. We made a list of local churches to try, and planned to visit the full list of churches before committing to a specific church.
After our first Sunday attending Rev City, we felt at home and have attended ever since. The people are warm, welcoming and authentic followers of Jesus. The teaching is solid and filled with scripture. Worship is focused on Jesus and is produced with excellence. The pastoral staff does a great job of shepherding the church and genuinely cares about *your* individual spiritual health.
My advice is to get plugged into a life group and begin serving right away. Opportunities for community include men's and women's life groups, married life groups, Fall & Spring softball leagues and more. The ways to serve at Rev City are endless - from holding doors, to working with kids and helping with tech production.
Rev City Church is effective in reaching souls for Christ and improving the spiritual outlook of families in Lawrence, KS. Highly recommend.

We had a Saturday event here, which was amazing. The building and rooms were inviting and the people were wonderful hosts. Every detail was lovingly taken care of, making it easy to encounter God, the very reason for our gathering.

Looking for a church then.go to Greenhouse a place to grow great kids services the pastor always has new lessons and the worship brings the presence of God loving and down to earth come as you are Church

I have never been to the Free State Church. I am part of the ICOC, though. I have been a disciple and part of the ICOC for 27 years now and there has been a lot of negative things posted and said about the church and the way it dealt with things way back. I know that there are many things in everyone's experiences that can cause people to post responses saying to stay away. Everyone has their own individual walk with God that needs to be walked according to what God says in his Word.
Unfortunately, when we decide to do things our own way, we can get attitudes towards those people or organizations who conflict with our plans. It should be God's plans and not ours to begin with. That is not to say that people did not get hurt over 20 years ago with all that went on in the church. Everyone, including people in churches, goes through times of pruning and change. I am sure that there are still people (because we are human) that still will not deal with things the best. That is why it is super important to be open and honest about feelings or thoughts, etc. but done with the actual people, and not posted as negative or not-helpful on social media sites. Of course, that is not saying that people are in sin who do so either. The Bible is very clear about how we are to deal with things that cause discomfort and struggle. We should go to the person or people that have possibly caused the problems with us, but first praying to God to make sure that we are not taking things too personally or are wrong ourselves. We should never be afraid to talk over things. And, if the other person does not work with you on the issue, then bring another into the mix (biblical). Anyway, I do hope that this church sector, like the others, remembers what happened with the Henry Kriete letter and the changes that ensued afterwards. Sorry for the length of this but felt the urge to post it.

Next they’ll be dancing!
Listen man, if you don’t like music or any entertainment value with your religious teachings then don’t go. I disagree fundamentally with the religion that you and this church both share but I definitely don’t think either of you should have your religious freedom infringed upon. What did you expect as an outcome because of your comment?

Sounds just like a social asl gathering no different than visiting a club in town they have great music as well.
When will we decide to seek the teachings of Christ and stop the entertainment in our gatherings.
Sad to read these posts that they have great music.
Folks this is not a place to entertain but a place to hear the teachings of our Lord and savior not a social club to entertain.
Please seek the guidance of the true teacher the Holy Spirit.

My faith has been transformed since attending The Greenhouse 5 years ago. Jared and his team do an amazing job of clearly communicating how to follow Jesus in real time by not only living by example, but by facilitating a relational environment. There are countless opportunities to get involved with outreach events that serve the city/people of Lawrence and to connect with others in various stages of life. I would recommend this church to anyone who is looking to find a community of people that they can “do life with” and wants to grow in their relationship with God and as a husband/wife/father/mother.

This church is responsible for my salvation. They are committed to the Word and exploring all the ways we can enhance our relationship with God. The entire congregation is friendly and welcoming, and made me, who has never felt like I fit in anywhere, feel like I had come home.
I've been attending Free State Church for almost a year and a half, and in that time the church has gone through a number of (IMO) extremely positive changes (going from really good to great!). There is an energy and a focus on our Lord, and an overwhelming desire to improve our community.
I can't speak for the negative reviews that have been posted here, but I have never felt anything but love, inclusion, and welcome. Praise Jesus!

This is the first place I ever truly felt at home and experienced what family really is.
I grew up "believing" in God, but never really knew what that meant other than Jesus apparently died for me. 7 years ago I was invited out to a church event by a campus student. She got together with me to look at scripture and help me grow *my* relationship with God through understanding the *Bible* - not her opinions. What I valued most about that was the fact that I couldn't, and still cannot, argue against what scripture says. I was presented with the information but it was up to me to decide how I want to live my life or if I see things that need to change. She, among countless others, have helped me continue to grow my heart toward God. The deep and honest connections I have here have challenged me to be better than even my own expectations - not better for people, but better for God. As a naturally insecure, quiet, introverted person by nature, I've fiercely challenged *myself*, through the use of scripture and action, to become outwardly focused and secure in who God has made me. This church has provided me a safe space to feel genuine love and support, and a family that isn't afraid to ask the hard questions and encourage me along the way.
At the end of the day, we are still humans and not God himself. People will always fall short of perfection - even scripture says so. But that doesn't mean we should stop striving for it. This church family has helped me believe in myself and see that God's perfection is worth pursuing.

This is a great church to help anyone on there journey to find and build a relationship with God. I was raised in a non denominational church my whole life and have had countless experiences with all different church’s. During my upbringing I noticed that so many churches were full of hypocrites that claim to love God but don’t put Gods word into action in day to day life. This really pushed me away from churchs in general. There are many church’s out there that do follow Gods word and do live the word out in there lives and this is one of them. I am so happy that I was introduced to this group of believers and would recommend this congregation to anyone interested in the Bible.

I’ve thought and prayed over this review for the past 24 hours but I think an honest review needs to be reported. Our family is new to the area - moved here just before Christmas- and we are looking for a church that will meet our needs. When we came into the building yesterday for the 11:00 service, we wandered around without any direction. No one seemed to notice we were there. The first person to reach out and say hello was a man in the congregation who sat in front of us - and he said hello at the coffee station, then again during “meet and greet time” (20 minutes into the service). I would promote him to head of the Welcoming Committee! My husband and I have served in church ministry ourselves, so we know what we could expect when we walk into the doors of a church for the first time. No one helped us to find classes for our kids. No one showed us to the Sanctuary. We noticed there was a Welcome desk but the one person standing behind the desk was occupied with one gentleman for as long as I stood waiting for my son to go to the restroom (5 minutes or more). This is the third church we have visited in Lawrence & I would like to give Morning Star another try but our first-impression is quite lacking in comparison to the other two. The Worship was great. The sermon was relevant and applicable. Our pre-teen enjoyed his class. But the first 15 minutes of our visit left us really sad & unfortunately colored our entire visit.

I spent a little less than a year at the church but that was more than enough time to see it’s true colors. Initially I was drawn in by the people, as far as I know just about everyone is. The first thing you should know is that this is a small congregation associated with the ICOC. If you don’t know what that is, take a moment and look it up.
While the church itself vehemently claims they have changed, I can confirm that things have not changed enough. The environment created there is controlling due to the great pressure to conform to their standards and behaviors. I’m not saying everything they do is ungodly, I’m saying too much of it goes too far (I could right a 10 page essay on this subject alone).
They attempt to exercise control over the lives of the congregation but the kicker is you won’t see it. They mask it with love bombing and forced connections, lulling you into a false sense of security. This all sounds over dramatic but my experience isn’t unusual, people come and go like seasons in this church, if you choose to attend that is your choice but do so with caution and cognizance.

Non-judgmental venue. Live music and down to earth teachings. Just feels right! =) shopping for a church that fits? Check out the Greenhouse Culture.

This church has given me countless opportunities to grow in my relationship with God, as well as have many professional skills that has helped as I go through school. I love their Sunday worship and how many options there are for people of various age groups!

My husband and I are looking for a new church home so we wanted to start here. We did not feel Christ love come from anyone there. No one greated us or showed us around. During the service I could here the kids church rocking out so it made it hard to focus on the word being preached... bad 1st impressions not going back ever.

Love Pastor Jared and his entire team. They have an incredible church family. I am so thankful and proud of what they are doing in Lawrence!

I first started coming to this church when I was 11 years old, as time went on, the more aware I became the fire I once had started to spew out. Most of the people there are great and genuine, but that's where it stops. If you are looking for a place to be comfortable it is the place for you. Be mindful though that your relationship is with God not people. Now I feel like the church oversteps it's bounds and tried to guilt you on your personal life choices such as what job you take, who you want to be with, the timing of your relationships and marriages, who you should date, when you are ready to leave etc. About these things they can not point to scriptures specifically they will show you scriptures on unity and question the heart you have for God. Another reason I rate this a 2 is because they will judge (they say they don't) YOUR relationship with God based on attendance to events and not the results of what you do. They are so focused inwardly about themselves and their organizations and not about their communities in Lawrence. Real world, scary things were going on that effected me a young Black man, and no mention of these things not in conversation or in sermon except for be careful what you post and this world is evil. I could honestly write a novel but since leaving I felt I have grown the most with impacting Lawrence, Kansas and teaching/serving the youth here. I feel more inclined to have true real conversations about religion rather than being guilted and spewed the same nonsense since I was 11. This post will probably be removed but I felt compelled to put this so those who chose to visit can get a true sense of things from both sides.
