Our family have been members for 14 years. We love the children's and youth ministry. They offer Sunday School and Adult connect groups. It's a big church with a small church feel. Lots of great opportunities to get plugged in. If you're looking for a church that preaches the truth, this is the place for you!
Amazing church to go to!
My Home Church
First Baptist Church is a great church to attend has a lot of ministry ideas and always has activities that you can attend Sunday school classes are better than most churches I have visited in the past and it's within walking distance or biking distance they really help out especially if you have health conditions they have nurses some nurses I know from doctors offices I go to I even met a nurse that works at a doctor office I go to and he knows what to do for me and tells me to follow up in doctor office I had a medical situation on last Sunday and I can't remember nurses name but he was nice and knew exactly what to do and then I walked in the service at 11 am and I seen nurse that works at asthma clinic in Decatur Alabama that I go to well technician and I told him about the situation and he already knew I had appointment on Monday morning and told me to make sure I come for shots in Decatur Alabama and he said he would check me out and get me a blood sugar machine and do blood work while I was in office on Monday so thanks to the staff and nurse that helped me and I did follow up with two doctors i always look forward to learning more if it wasn't for the nurse a police officer that knows me i guess i would have been messed up the athens city police officers is always saving my life and trying to get me to doctor office and calling ambulance and rapid responders that deal with asthmatic patients and the ambulance service calls technician that is on call for me great job on last sunday and quick responses i give first baptist church a 5 from Mary Lewis

My Husband and I visited your Church last Sunday during the Morning Service. We really loved the message, singing, and felt the love of Jesus there. The only thing that is on my list of what I am looking for in a Church Home is I love singing from the Hymnal Book, I also loved the songs that the Music Director chose, but a mixture of old and new would be optimal to me.

I was only here for a visit. It seems like a nice church and has a lot to offer a family. It is a little too big for my taste although that will appeal to some. Go, worship, get the Word.

The most loving group of Christians I have ever known. They welcome everyone. It felt like home the first time I walked through the doors. Pastor Rick Cantrell and his wife Karen are the best. They truly care about their congregation. If you are looking for a loving Christian church where the pastor preaches from God's word, I highly recommend this little country church.
My son, 7, and niece, 5, went to the Vacation Bible School this year. They had an absolute blast. They came home everyday talking about Jesus and all the fun they had with the various activities.

I went there for dnow(youth conference) i repeat I do not attend this church I attend whbc with my family but dnow here was pretty amazing the sanctuary seemed nice and the church must be doing pretty well because they have a few locations now but I just thought the concert/conference was epic so I really can't comment on any other aspect of the church please do not think this is in any way a review of the church even though I'm sure it is lovely just wanted to show off some cool dnow photos.

West Highland Baptist is a very nice church every body loves to come and help warship our Lord and savior I haven't been going there at west highland.i was saved and baptized there the people are wonderful and that will welcome you with open arms.hope to see the one that read this post at west highland it is on 5 ave.the corner of 5th and Hine street. Have a very Bless Day God loves you and so do we so come and check us out we're good people we are Gods people.God is good all the time and he loves you he never leave you he always there when no one else is there even when someone is there he is still there taking good care of all of us never leaving you or forsaken you thank you and God bless you all amen

A nice clean great church good preaching
After a BAD experience with another local daycare, i was worried to try a new one. Let me tell you, FBC is AMAZING. The classes are small enough that I know they get plenty of one-on- one time, and my daughter is thriving there. This is her second year and she absolutely loves it. The director is incredibly kind and approachable, and the entire staff is fantastic- all the same- age classes do playtime together so all the teachers interact with the kids and form relationships with them, and love them like their own!
I also love the way they do open play. When the weather is nice, they go to the playground. When it's too hot or cold, they have a big gym with toys to play, and when the weather is too bad to go to the gym, they have a big finished basement to play in, so there's never that "cooped up" feeling.
All in all i would totally recommend FBC for your littles!

Pastor Kennedy does an amazing job preaching the Word of God. I wish more pastors had the same level of convictions and standards this pastor has. In fact, I wish more churches used the Bible as the final authority as Madison Street does.
A loving Southern Baptist congregation that is known for solid Bible teaching, community service, and a particularly great music ministry (love that choir). Has both blended and contemporary worship services and many activities throughout the week for all ages. There is plenty of convenient parking right next to the church.
Great Parking easy to get in for anyone with a disability. Men's conference How To Be a Man with Rick Burgess was awesome. About 600 men was there. Awesome Awesome Awesome
Nice service, great first experience for southern Baptist. Preacher reminded me of Kenneth Copeland, well spoken. Church was pretty, loved the stained glass windows. They offered Sunday school after four multiple ages.

This is the most humble, friendly, God Loving church family you will find anywhere. Bro. Gerome preaches from the bible, and you will love what you hear. Come join a church that loves God and loves you.
To get "plugged in", be sure to find a Connect Group aka Sunday School. This is a mega church, with probably a membership of about 1800, and about 900 regularly attending members. You'll be welcomed to join AWANA on Sunday evenings, choir, Young at Heart, Bible school, oh so many opportunities you just need to go! The pastor, Brother Dusty McClemore, is the real deal. You'll enjoy his sermons, and the music!
Great area! The place is protected with a security system at certain times, so it's definitely safe, and it's such a big area, perfect for the many activities they allow in it. Has three floors, parking across the street, and an elevator big enough for wheelchairs or anything big you need to transport to another floor. Good layout, and each room individually locks, keeping people out of rooms they don't belong in. Great place overall.
Because I live out of state and am not able to attend, I am so very thankful for the sermons that I am able to access on line. Please, please don't ever do away with this spirit filled learning; Pastor Joel, your message to me and many others is delivered in a way that I know is pleasing to our Almighty God and Father.

We weren't a huge fan. First, Pastor Dusty referred to Abraham and David as Christians. I'm pretty sure Christ hadn't been born yet in the Old Testament. So my intellectual side wouldn't want to go back which is totally fine. Not all churches fit all people. What I REALLY haven't liked is the ONE phone call, TWO pieces of mail, and THREE emails I've gotten in the last 6 days since I visited. TOO MUCH!!
I do not appreciate your church members banging, literally banging, on my door tonight, asking if I go to church. 1. I had JUST gotten my cranky, teething 11 month old down for a nap finally. He woke up. 2. It's NONE of your business if we go to church or not, i don't care if you have the best daycare there is.
I recommend you tell your members not to do this anymore; it's really scary to a mother home alone with her child when a strange man comes banging on the door.

West highland is a great church my church family at West highland Baptise r just like your real family so come jon us Sunday at the end of 5th and hine st come and see us
