I recently had the pleasure of dining at Indigo Indian restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The lamb nihari was absolutely delicious, rich in flavour and perfectly cooked. The waiter, Arman, was exceptionally attentive and made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for authentic Indian cuisine and excellent service.
Best Indian food I’ve had in a while! Butter chicken is incredible and the guys in there are super friendly and welcoming! Couldn’t recommend more!
I was quite disappointed really. It wasn't busy but we were not very well attended to, and not terribly cheerfully. The food was OK, but not special and I wouldn't go back.
They also add a compulsory 10% service charge, which I totally disagree with, we always leave tips for good service and resent it being taken automatically.

As foreigners ordered takeaway here and whilst in a holiday cottage the driver managed to find us. Good service and food was delicious and warm when it arrived. A plus as well, delivery ahead of schedule.
The food was extremely tasty and the staff were extremely, kind, friendly and funny. Sayed especially went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and lightened the mood with his jokes and the way he presented himself. They're all good people
Excellent dinner on Thursday evening at Indigo with family. Staff are so friendly and helpful with the menu, sharing their recommendations and favourites. The food was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked! Can’t wait to come back again soon.
I cannot say enough good things about this place. The chutneys and Curries are so fresh and delicious. The chicken Jalfrezi is my favourite, always prepared with fresh peppers and tomato. But beyond the food, the service is always top notch. Sayiid and his crew make a point to getting to know their return customers and are super attentive. Best curry in Saffron Walden hands down.

To eat a kebab without previously drinking alcohol is a challenge especially on a Friday night when the pubs turn out.
Food was stone cold by the time I got home which was 5 minutes. The service was shocking and the server was rude and the website crashed and duplicated my order.
Order food, paid for the food, it never arrived and didn’t get a call to say why not or an apology and never received a refund. Paired for delivery to never arrive!
The current owner has turned this place into an absolute gem. Easily one of the tastiest and most consistent takeaways in Walden.

Very fast delivery but the worst curry I’ve ever eaten. How is it possible to make King Prawns taste like chicken? Apparently by seriously overcooking them - I won’t be back to spend £20 on a very poor meal
We went for breakfast, which the food was awful. The scrambled egg was like a solid piece of rubber, sausages, bacon, beans were all cold. Hash browns were also cold and rubbery.
Service was shocking, 3 staff walking around doing nothing, 1 chef we spoke to didn't speak to us, and they all looked miserable.
We will never return for another meal here, it was a complete waste of money.

I order from here regularly & not once had a problem. The portion sizes from this place are very large - for what you pay you're not under portioned, which is a common theme in other takeaways in the area. The delivery service is 5* too, the food always arrives well within the allocated time & it's always piping hot on arrival.

EXCELLENT Sunday lunch yesterday (though would prefer streaky rather than back bacon on my burger). VERY charming staff. (Surprisingly didn’t come up initially when we searched for a venue - which was lucky for us as we got a table - yay!)
We had an incredible time at The Eight Bells. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating to gluten free guests. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere in the old barn area was comfortable and inspired. Highly recommend a visit.
Super Sunday lunch for 4 of us. Roasts and desserts were delicious. Nut roast was the best I've ever had. Chilled water provided as soon as we arrived which was very welcome on such a hot day. Staff and manager were friendly and helpful. Thank you all.
Took ages to get out drinks despite being quiet. Chicken wings as starter were tough. Nowhere near as good as wetherspoons. Triple cooked chips as advertised are not, frozen and cooked once also very dry. The steak was chewy. Would not recommend it at all.
Fantastic. Fresh oil used. Fresh fish with a light crisp batter. Lovely chips perfectly fried. Friendly people who are attentive and rather sweet. Hardworking team. We will return.
This really is one of Saffron Walden's hidden gems. Its so close to the Market square yet easy to miss as its on the first floor with a single door entrance.

Really lovely space with a great friendly atmosphere.

Amazing visit here with my friend. All the staff are very friendly. So many options on the menu to choose from. The chicken burger was out of this world! Great coffee and cake selection too. Would highly recommend this little tucked away gem!

Busy place. Sat outside and enjoyed watching the world go by. Best coffee I’ve had when out for ages and liked the fact that a free bottle of water was provided as well. Only bought two slices of cake. Lemon drizzle which was good and gluten free chocolate brownie which my wife thought was too sweet. Good service provided.

Came here for Sunday Brunch, had the matcha latte and the shakshuka, everything was amazing! They have all of the milks, any one you want, the staff are attentive and friendly and obviously get along well with each other, which creates a great atmosphere. They were really helpful with my dietary issues and they do have Gluten Free bread, just ask. They have a section of the menu where you can just build your own breakfast if you have fussy eaters or dietary problems as well, a great variety. Lots of lovely dogs around as a big bonus. The food was filling and warming and just yummy. It’s all very reasonably priced, I paid £18 for my bill, service charge included. I would recommend to anyone.
Stopped by for lunch as we visited the area. Cute little place with good service. The food was tasty. The kids menu was varied. My wife and I had wraps which were very good. Vegetarian options available.
Needed to wait quite a bit to be seated The cakes looked lovely but we did not try. We had a goat cheese salad which was amazing and a roasted vegetable Filo quiche which I found a bit plain. I would definitely try their sweets next time

Lovely family Sunday lunch had here. There were 10 of us altogether, so we had a separate area with a long table seating us all. The service was very good. The waiter was cheerful, helpful, and friendly. Most had a roast beef lunch, I had the pork loin. The children had the burgers. My mother is a small eater so they allowed her to choose from the kids menu. Everyone said their food was delicious and the meat cooked to how they had ordered it.
I took my Fiancée to The Restaurant on Church Street for her birthday. Neither of us have ever eaten here before even though my Fiancée has lived in Saffron Walden since birth. What a lovely quiant place. Absolutely spectacular food, lovely staff and a lovely peaceful atmosphere. They had even prepared a birthday cake for her. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. We will definitely be returning soon.

I’m not going to lie, when the food arrived, I couldn’t believe the amount we got, the sandwiches were huge and they didn’t skimp on the jacket either. Went during our weekend break. A great place to have a drink and lovely food. Customer service was prompt and friendly, with a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. Jon made us feel very welcome. Thank you.

Food could have been a touch faster and the roast a touch more tender. But overall a solid 4.3.
I wouldn't travel all the way there for the roast alone, however if you're in the area visiting Saffron Walden or Audley End Housr, you can't go wrong.

Really friendly bar ladies .really nice food .the ultimate would have been slightly browner potatoes .but the meat was tender and homemade Yorkshire pudding.and lovely gravy and fresh horseradish .

This is a true gem among breakfast and brunch locations! An excellent and wide choice of food options. The dishes we've chosen were delicious, especially the Healthy Brunch - lots of healthy, colourful, and scrumptious food on the plate. The drinks menu (turmeric and blue butterfly lattes are on the pic) is also up to the high standard. Kids' menu available. Quick and friendly service. Reasonable prices.
Amazing place with both tables inside and outside. Staff was very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. The food was really really nice. We was a group of 7 and all had different food and all was amazed by the taste. Would definitely recommend a visit.

September 2023: We've continued to use this takeaway this year and have been impressed with the consistent quality they've maintained! Have worked through a lot of the menu now and nothing has disappointed. Best Cantonese-style baozi we've ever had outside of HK.

Produce ok. Saw people eating at tables so asked to do the same. Was charged extra for stuff on a plate. Locals came in and ordered to take away, then sat and ate at tables out of the boxes! Bit of a rip-off.
It's one of the best places to sit, eat beautifully made food and relax. The staff are wonderful and very friendly. The portions are very generous and it is just a delightful place to be.
We love this place. Excellent food, well presented. Always extremely fresh salads. Can be a bit noisy, but everything else compensates for that. Staff very hard working and polite, always on the ball as is the owner and his wife and of course " mum" who are hard at it cooking and preparing food. Would give them more than five stars +. Well done all of you, keep it up.

It doesn't matter if you go in the daytime or the evening, the welcome you receive is a good one. The staff are energetic and do all they can to get you served quickly. There is a very good selection of wines, real ales and lagers. I have never been let down by the food wether it be a Sunday roast or a sandwich at lunch. The main bar is full of character with a log burner making it feel cosy during the winter months. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing Hangover Cure Breakfast (and in fact quite a nice sophisticated menu for people without hangovers). I did get my sausages forgotten (hence the photo is lacking them) but that was soon resolved. Great coffees, juices, smoothies, beer and wine etc. Highly recommended.
Absolutely brilliant value ( though it isn't cheap) and very delicious food. The prices are very good given the size of the portions. Today we had a sandwich, roast vegetable and cream cheese on malted bread plus a pot of herb tea each. The sandwich was really nice and very filling. The staff are nice, but quite hard pushed, the premises are small and it is popular, so it can be a bit slow and feel a little cramped. We didn't have a cake today but have had cake in the past & they are all great
Went for mother's day dinner. Loved the food, and service was excellent even though they took their time to bring food to the table. A bit of a long wait but we weren't bothered as we live local. Be ready to tip as it's embarrassing to press 'No' when the payment machine asks you for it and the waiter/tress is waiting in front of you! 😁
Coucou does amazing food. Doorstep sandwiches, great salads, but where they really score is desert. If you're not allergic to nuts, try the florentine, it's amazing.

Food is not average, service is really poor (waited over 45min for food - it's only an ~8 table place) and be prepared to go home smelling of kitchen...really disappointing considering the other reviews (dessert was left half eaten...)
Took my mum here for her 80th birthday as was about an hours drive for everyone to meet up. We were looking for somewhere a little bit more special and The Eight Bells ticked all the boxes. The restaurant is amazing and so is the food. Service was great and the staff really friendly. Also dog friendly except the restaurant which is handy to know

Update : my one frustration with kebabs has been the insistence on doing a little pot of salad, instead of piling it on the kebab. Last night they offered me the option. I'm happy.

Went in for coffee and cake, I had a slice of carrot cake which was recommended by one of the customers there, it was quite nice but if I am giving a honest comment and recommendation, I would say the carrot cake lacks the cream in the middle as carrot cake would taste nicer if there is a cream / line in the middle to separate two layers of the cake, and it would be nicer if it was a bit softer, but overall it was still delicious. The coconut flat white that I had was very nice too. Service was fast, price was fair.
By far the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Come here for my Friday treat after a hard days work and never disappoints. Literally the highlight of the week. Great welcoming staff and amazing food! An asset to the town

Great fish and chips and friendly service. Love the new addition to the drinks menu of beer or wine. Would be good though if there was an ale option rather than just two generic lagers. Perhaps a pale ale or an IPA. Overall, a fantastic chippy!
A disappointing experience unfortunately. The ambiance is great, the quality of the produce is excellent, both the fillet steak and the lamb was first class and cooked to perfection, however the sides were bland and un-imaginative. Staff were friendly but in-experienced and had absolutely no knowledge of the wine list or what they were serving when delivering the meal to our table. Great shame as it could have been one of those “finds” that leaves you raving about it and wanting to return.
The people who work there are so friendly. The cod goujons on special tonight are delicious. Please put them on specials board again.

Came here for a Father’s Day meal with three others. The first thing we noticed was how LOVELY the staff were, namely Julian and Toby K (whose names I asked for to mention here!).
They were super polite and ensured that we had everything we needed throughout our meal.
We ordered and the food was lovely, however sadly the one downside to this visit was the waiting times. We waited 45 mins for our starters, a further 40 mins for our mains and then 25 mins for dessert; our visit in total was over three hours which seemed quite unnecessary, although we understood it would be busy due to it being Father’s Day. We only ever saw two chefs in the kitchen who were pushing our meals at a fairly slow and relaxed pace, with multiple waiters standing around waiting for their table’s meals to be made.
Overall a good experience, however would maybe not visit on an ‘occasion’ day again just due to wait times.

We waited 45 mins for our starters, a further 40 mins for our mains and then 25 mins for dessert; our visit in total was over three hours which seemed quite unnecessary, although we understood it would be busy due to it being Father’s Day. We only ever saw two chefs in the kitchen who were pushing our meals at a fairly slow and relaxed pace, with multiple waiters standing around waiting for their table’s meals to be made.
Overall a good experience, however would maybe not visit on an ‘occasion’ day again just due to wait times.
Late night decision and so glad we did! Amazing chicken half pounder and my partner had a half pounder cheese and bacon burger and loved it. They were more than happy to add bacon to my burgers. Cheesy chip were lovely, only thing I'd say is, a bit more cheese throughout. Definitely the best chicken around! Really enjoyed our meal, such friendly staff, happy to cater to your requirements. The chicken pieces are delicious!

When they're busy the service is incredibly poor, being a lone traveller there's nothing worse than slow service, waiting an hour for food isn't good, although I was on a meal deal so 2 courses I gave up on my dessert as by this time I'd been there over 1 and half hours, if I'd waited for dessert to be ordered then arrive I'm guessing the whole experience would have been at least two and a half hours.
So now even though I like the hotel I probably won't be coming back to stay in a hurry as the restaurant can't cope when busy.
For balance here's my review when they weren't busy and for fairness I've changed my five star to two stars.
This Beefeater is first class with great service and food, the menu has plenty of choice although a bit lacking in Vegan choices edit* they now offer more choice even Vegan options although that said it's a Beefeater so the type of food they do is in the name 😉.

The staff at the hotel are very friendly too.

This restaurant, The Restaurant, is so inconsistent that last night's visit, after about 20 years, will be my final one. Rubbery pigeon followed by rubbery lamb. When the chef proprietor gets it right, it's worth the money and the incredibly variable service, but when he gets it wrong it's really not - and that simply happens too often.
Such a great curry house, really friendly, excellent food and fast delivery.
The food, service and the ambience is just wow! There was this waitress who were so welcoming. I was a bit doubtful whether the food would match my Indian taste. But I was totally overwhelmed by their presentation and the taste. And the dessert, it was the best thing I've ever tasted. Do try their Mango Passion fruit crème brûlée.

Good food. Only had a takeaway twice but both times we've been pleased. New year's Eve was a bit of a fiasco (waited an hour and a half for food) but more down to the ordering app not limiting the number of customers than the restaurant themselves.
Excellent food at reasonable price. We have had our twice only but always excellent.
Had quite a wait on news years eve to pick up our pre-ordered food but it seems there was a glitch with online tool.

We ordered our take away on New Year's Eve, using the "all eat" app.
You select your collection time, we chose 7.30pm.
On arrival there was about 20 people in the queue also waiting for their order! And it was freezing!
There was no order to prioritising customer orders.
My husband waited until 8.15pm before just having to abandon any hope of receiving our food.
Nobody came out to talk to their customers and explain what was going on!?
Their website is clearly unmanaged and just let's endless amounts of people order..... It would appear EVERYONE chose the 7.30pm slot for collection!
I imagine an awful lot of other people went without their Takeaway too.
The one saving grace was that I had received a refund without any contact with them.
I can't even review the food as we never got it!

Had to wait nearly an hour and a half for an average 4 dish sized order and when collected there were no free veg spring rolls as advertised. When I asked the lady was told she can give me prawn crackers instead (from a mountain of bags that had been there for how long?) When I declined had to wait another 10 mins whilst they cooked them. Food was so so, quite oliy and salty but no more than a lot of takeaways, portions not huge and meat content a bit light. Biggest issues were the Ho Fun which was just an undercooked mount of stuck together thick noodles and my request for no prawns in the Singapore vermicelli was completely ignored and good job it was not for allergy reasons! Wont be going back i am afraid.
Ordered at 6.30 by phone, told collection at 7.30 . Arrived at 7.25 had to wait until 8.15 to collect my order as there was already 12 people waiting most was told collect at 7.30. Got my order home. No sweet & sour sauce for chicken balls. Also as we spent over £10 & £20 we should of received fortune cookies and 10 spring rolls free. We spent £51.00 These also wasn’t in our order .
As we were in lockdown they only took cash no cards . Which I thought strange as it’s non contact payment !!

Was genuinely surprised. The food was far better than I thought it would be, and the atmosphere of the place was nothing short than amazing. I had the lentil soup and the sirloin steak salad. Both were a real treat.
I absolutely loved this little cafe hidden in Saffron Alden. Not only is the food beautiful to see but it's absolutely yummy too! The choice is overbearing and mouth watering.
The staff are friendly and welcoming. I had the mushroom and stilton quiche with salad and then a millionaire's shortbread, delicious!
Definitely go there if you have the chance!
