Easily one of the best place to eat in Penang. Good to call ahead to reserve. Must order their fried chicken and brinjal

One of the worst experiences with regards to restaurants. Like what the other patron mentioned, the food is kopitiam at best. But I feel it’s worse than some of the better zhu char in Sg Dua or Sg Ara. The moment the dishes were served, I knew we are in for a rough ride. The colour of the dishes were so dull, indicating lack of freshness. The 香片tea tasted weird. The best dish was probably the plain white rice. Utterly dissatisfying.

Deliciois dishes are similar to homecook style. Very unique cooking. Menu is not fancy but list quite interesting. Limited tables available. Must make reservation, recommend to go at 5.30pm. After 6 pm, will be full house. Waitresses mostly are elderly.

Ordered 4 dishes
Bitterground with fry eggs
Kangkong Belacang
Lemon chicken
Pig stomach Soup

Dinner chair covers are dirty, after I observed.

I ordered simple and regular dishes for my dinner.

All 4 dishes served are either weird taste, too salty and not fully cook. I think this restaurant exist is just a joke.
Reliable and dependable quality and service. Consistent always! Love the food and good portion sizes

Pre CNY dinner, 9 February 2024, 8pm

My family and I took this package (picture of menu as seen), and we were disappointed. The menu stated that it was meant to be for 10 pax but we left still feeling hungry (our table only had 8 pax of people). There are four dishes there were really just sad.

For the first dish “combination platter” the portion of egg and sweet potato roll given was just pitiful. There was only 6 sweet potato rolls to be shared among 8 people. As for the egg, each of us only could take half a spoon of it.

As for the “braised shark’s fin soup with abalone slice”, the name is misleading. You can see from the picture, there aren’t any slices visible.

The “mix fruits salad ocean prawn” only had pineapples and the prawns didn’t taste fresh at all.

Lastly, the “double boiled snow fungus with peach gum” just left us speechless. There was zero sugar in it. My cousin even had go ask the waiter and waitress to try it for themselves because they didn’t believe that there wasn’t any sugar in it. They went to get sugar syrup for us and told us the chef had forgotten to put sugar for this batch. The other tables sitting near us were affected as well.

After dinner, went to feedback these to the lady at the counter. Her response wasn’t sincere. For the sweet potato roll, she mentioned that there was a mix up. We should have received more (how can there be a mix up when we paid for 10 pax?) for the “mix fruit”, she said tomatoes were included too (I was just speechless at this). As for the zero sugar, she claimed there was sugar in it, they diluted it due to previous tables complaining that it was too sweet (why did your waiter and waitress told us that this batch sugar was missed out?).

When mistakes were made, it is better to just admit them and apologize sincerely. After pushing for a better solution, they gave us a mere RM100 discount for two tables.

First time and last time. Not recommended to visit.

Very very very bad experience on this restaurant. We eat their CNY 2024 package which course RM988++ (for 10pax) , 8course. All the food portions were so small not even enough for 10people and food standard was like normal “kopitiam zhucha”standard. Can’t even consider restaurant standard and all their food ingredients was way so normal which didn’t even worth for RM588. But what we took is RM988 package without tax.

Somemore dessert come without taste( can consider no sugar). We even call the waitress to taste themself. We did review and feedback to their female owner/ supervisor but wht we get is excuses. They should not take so many orders if they cant afford it. FEEL LIKE GETTING SCAM.

Not a bad place to eat. We are able to assess the quality and flavour because we have tried a number of their dishes. I fail to see why some of the commenters gave any of the items a low rating, unless the chef was having a bad day.
It was a location for big gatherings. The only tables available were huge ones. You might not find the venue appropriate if you are dinning alone.

I think the reason why regular customers keep coming back to Foong Yean has got nothing to do with the dining atmosphere- though fully air-conditioned, the ventilation seems to be weak inside; they come back for the consistently delicious food, with reasonable prices! The decade-old Cantonese Restaurant has quite a variety of dishes to offer- from the classic Cantonese stir fry to local-Malaysian cuisine. Foong Yean has always been the de-facto Chinese restaurant to visit in Bayan Baru area. We tried the fried 4 types of vegetables with sambal , crab meat taufu, curry fish ! Most of the patrons will return for its taste !

Address: 34, Jalan Tengah, Taman Tunas, 11900, Bayan Lepas, Penang.
Business Hours: 11 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 10 pm. Closed on Wednesdays.

Food:
Their signature dish - Pan Mee (板麵). There are different versions of Pan Mee: Thin Pan Mee Dry + Egg, Flat Pan Mee Dry + Egg, and Thin Pan Mee Soup + Egg. Besides, they also serve dim sum (香港點心) such as Fried Shrimp Roll, Shrimp Dumpling, Siew Mai (燒賣) and many more…

Service:
The staff is super friendly, helpful and attentive. They deserved five stars service from me

Atmosphere:
The restaurant is open air space and tucked within an old flats. It would hard for those who are not local to locate the restaurant. The restaurant is sometimes known as “Pan Mee under a big free” by the local.

Verdict;
Well, local may say - it is a hidden gem and known by the local for serving one of the best traditional Pan Mee for decades. In my opinion, the Pan Mee is pretty decent and there are much more delicious Pan Mee in Malaysia. 😉

Came here for breakfast on a Saturday. It was quite crowded and packed, but can still get a seat. The food here is quite nice. Can try the fried chee cheong fan, fried kueh tiaw, kueh tiaw shop, hokkien mee, etc. The price is reasonable as well. Would recommend to try the food.

Tried koey teow soup for twice. Still, tasted average for me. But it's rich in ingredients, the mince pork are big portion, soup is flavorful. I found the noodles & soup & ingredients unable to blend in well. Feel like eating three things separately. QR pay accepted.

The hot Milo is unacceptable, many powder at cup button, didn't melt properly. Two times also like that. Owner shud take note of this. Improve bancuh Milo skill.

Personally, I can only recommend the fried yam ring served here.

Overall the menu is quite pricey when matched with the quantity of food and ambiance of the restaurant.

But don't let that stop you from making your own judgement on this popular eatery that has existed for quite some time.

The tables are big enough to accommodate large groups.

Paid parking can be difficult as the narrow road in front of the eatery has limited parking space during busy hours.

Their Pan Mee used to be very good back then, but nowadays it become so very bland, soup is tasteless, noodle did not absorb any taste of the soup. Abit disappointed if compared to before.

Good selection of local food with reasonable pricing but AVOID ORDERING KUEY TEOW THENG (soup noodles) as it is overrated n the wait is a FREAKING 1 hour!! If u came hungry, your taugeh grew up, baby could learn how to walk and cats would have graduated college by the time the noodles arrived. If u were hungry, u would turn into ashes in an urn waiting for your turn. When u remind them they pretend to not understand n nod the head. Eh, HANGRY LAH! 😤

i went for my lunch just now.
the food n drink is decent but personally i feel that the lady at the cashier (not sure she is boss/worker) is displaying unwelcoming attitude.
no welcome, no greetings, no smiling at all.
worst part is when she is helping to clean table next to us, as if like want to tear down the whole place.
minus this lady's attitude , i think overall is OK.

Wantanmee here is quite good.
The pickled green chilli is awesome.
Rm6 small, rm7 big

They have fried rice, curry mee, nasilemak, and eggs/toast as well.

TnG payment friendly.

Parking can be a challenge..
It's easier to park near the 711 and walk.

Kam Hei shares the same location as another coffee shop called Beng Aun, which operates during the day. So there might be some confusion when looking for this place. It's easier to look for Beng Aun and park your car at the back, where you can see a temple.

The bulk of the seating is al-fresco, and this would make it weather dependent. If it's a rainy day, it's better to avoid as there are limited indoor seating available.

For their signature dishes, go for the braised fish head, braised pig's trotters amongst others. You can always inquire for what are the fresh catch of the day.

Food is superb. The cooks are a pair of older men behind the woks and their experience shows in the food preparation.

Prices are also reasonable and won't burn a hole in your pocket.
A great place to spend an evening with family or friends with a good dinner.
Peak during lunch hour, food is good, but surrounding is hot n difficult to find parking
So far ok. Lot of ppl when lunch hour. Near by bayan lepas factory areas.

Food were okay. Ordered sweet and sour chicken rice set with soup and a drink. The drink depends on the drink of the day. Services were good. However there was like a weird smell when i was there but still okay. Overall 6/10 for set lunch.
It's better to be there by 11.30am to avoid crowd and to get parking since it's in the midst of residential area.

Must try their Teoh Chew porridge where you can add on the dishes like how you do for economy rice. Btw, nasi ekonomi is also available here.

Don't forget to order air longan. Warm neither cold, both sedap.

My go to coffee shop for Koay teow tng. You need to embrace the long wait if you want to eat the best KTT. Maybe while you wait you may want to also try the CKT. Really good, although it looks a little unappetizing. Ordered the Chinese pancake - banana with brown sugar. Loved it, but maybe can cut a little on the sugar.
Different choices. Food not bad.
Hawker centers in Penang can be very stressful but this place is by far one of my favourite places to go to in Penang. It's not so crowded and you can usually find a place to sit. The vendors there are very friendly unlike most of the hawker centers I've visited in Penang. In my opinion the Char Kuey Teow is super nice. So is the coffee and roti kaya and the service is super fast. The price is the best part. Can easily eat for less than RM 10. The only downside is the parking can be a little bit of a hassle but that's seems to be the case for the entire island so no difference I guess.
[can try le]
1) Overall - Chinese breakfast hawker style with plenty of stalls and food choices, selling majority local food, okay cleanliness, limited seating and parking capacity, food selection are wan tan mee, hokkien mee, guotiao aka kuey teow t'ng, yong tau foo and many more from Sri Nibong Cafe
2) fried kuey teow - flavourful and aromatic, a little spicy
3) prawn mee - sweet broth, tiny portion
4) pan mee soup - tasted good, chewy noodle and flavourful soup
5) dry kuey teow with pork soup - smooth kuey teow, flavourful pork broth with minced pork and balls

Will be good if you come as soon as it is opened or else you might need to wait even though you have booked at a specific time. Waited for half an hour even though we has booked one day ago. And you will look like you want to chase those customers having their meal to eat faster and vacate their tables.
Nice and value for money dishes

Had set lunch for 2. Price is reasonable around RM 40 for 3 dishes, rice and drinks for 2 but food taste is normal. Not very good, not very bad. Can consider for lunch time set if really run out of options though.

Ambiance wise might be a good place for big (10 pax) gathering.

NEVER EVER BELIEVE BLOGGERS. Especially Penang food bloggers. Wannabe influencers. Foodies urrrgghh.
Not worth it.
Again all the hype by useless food bloggers and when u actually go there, end up super disappointed, especially since I drove from Sungai Petani to here. Prices are RM46.20. Nothing special at all. The pan mee if anything was too oily. The dim sums were too mushy. The fried dim sums were salty. Saving grace is the soup and sui kow. And that's it.
Open air food court. limited parking. Have economy rice and some hawker food. expect about rm 10-15 for lunch per person.

Visited on 3/5/22 Tuesday morning. Not crowded as it is located in a peaceful neighbourhood. Sadly the Wantan Mee that I wanted to try is closed the day I visited. Ordered the Sinchew Fried Meehoon and Hokkien mee. Both were OK but not impressively good. The neslo and kopi beng is top notch! I was surprised when they can prepare good neslo! The half boiled egg and butter kaya toast was OK. However I do enjoy a quiet morning here. The parking can be find easily.

My favourite dinner spot , Indian stall right beside Selera Food & Drinks Coffee Shop .
It’s a new stall and they are first timers in the area . They serve light dinner Indian dishes such as Thosai , Apam , Capati , Puri and many more sides like karipap , Vadai and many others . ✨
All dishes are cheap and freshly made . Curries are very homemade taste . 💯
I’ve tried most of their dishes and all of them are yummy 👍🏻 My personal favourite is their Vadai and idli . Recommended . ✅
They are friendly and very jovial people too . ☺️
They start as early as 4.30pm up to 8pm , so let’s do our part to support this small business in this area 💪

Braised pork rice is highly recommended! Mushroom soup was only so so though, not the creamy type but more of like the chicken soup type.
The best fried rice I spotted around Bukit Jambul , it’s found in a small Chinese coffee shop . Clean and peaceful to have a meal ☺️
There have many stalls available such as Curry mee , Char koey teow and this stall which has many rice sets and some Chinese dishes . I tried their Chinese fried rice which is only RM5.50 . Very affordable and medium quantity 💰
Fried rice comes with Sambal belacan which is delicious . It really gives the UMMMM to the fried rice and fried rice can be customised too ( Eg : no pork ) . 👍🏻
The fried rice was so good that I even taupau one for dinner and had 2 servings of Sambal belacan . It’s yummy and very very cheap compared to some other places around the area so definitely recommended to try ✅

Hawker stall type cafe usually crowded for breakfast and parking is very limited. Variaty of local food from char koay teow, wanton mee, hokkian mee, chu char and toast/egg. Long waiting time on a decent wanton mee, char koay teow is OK.
Nice selection easy parking. Hokkien char is good.

Pleasant, no frills dining or takeaway. Courteous and attentive service. Deliciously competitive, good value for money compared to more expensive places and value for money. Highlights include chicken chops, chicken cheese roll(actually lor bak with cheese), chicken nuggets(tastes better than fast food chains), rice and/or noodle honey grilled chicken, X. O. sauce mild spicy noodles, Signature Tomyam spaghetti with crispy fish fillet (mild spicy, minus sour flavour of standard store bought tomyam paste, garnished with lemongrass). This place even has a QR code activated menu on the table, rather sophisticated for a modestly sized and furnished outlet. Give it a try and be adventurous!

Dinner. Less people, not hot, lot of sit, faster service and food serve. Ordered 现煮肉料米粉汤, personally like it, the soup full of taste. Will come again.
Place several restaurants.
First, get a seat and choose the food you want.
Cheap and delicious.
Local food.
A good place for quick lunch at reasonable price. Each main course order comes with a glass of herbal tea. Koay Teow Thng (Soup/Dry) is the best-seller. Be sure to ask for daily special not available in the menu.
