The food is definitely on the pricey side for Chinese cuisine. Unless you are Chinese or more importantly, familiar with these type of dishes (especially the soup-based ones), you might struggle to know what to order.
The service was good and attractive, but it takes a bit of time for the dishes to arrive, even on a quiet day.
Worth the try if you want to try something different, but I don't think I'll be returning to this restaurant anytime soon.

Portion sizes and taste of the food are not worth the price. Ordered the double steamed soup that is a chef recommendation but it doesn’t taste good barely has any flavour, the portion for the soup is small as well, it’s like a cup-size for a 30$ soup and the cup with the soup was broken, it leaked through the plate under it. Atmosphere and service is okay.

Came here for dinner for the first time and it was a little disappointing. Had preordered ahead of time but still took them 20mins to confirm order - definitely understaffed. The dishes in this review plus one very plain fried rice (not even with meat) came to an eye watering $550 which is exorbitant for Chinese food. I think there’s probably better places that is far cheaper.

Tasty food but a bit expensive. We went in randomly and we were given the vibe that maybe it wasn’t for us considering how authentic it was. Nevertheless the staff helped with our order and it was a really tasty meal. The menu has some hefty items (over $100 a hit) and I feel like it’s perhaps a fancy Chinese restaurant. Felt like a good experience but perhaps a little too much money for what we got.

Good quality yum cha. Dishes need to be ordered off menu which is good as they are made fresh but I prefer trolley service for yum cha. Was very quiet for a weekday lunch so not the usual buzz of a yum cha experience. Overall a slightly above average experience.

The soup and steamed rice is hella yummy and wholesome 😋
Had the abalone chicken clam soup for dinner as I was craving for home cooked canto soup. This place really lived up to the expectations and the lap cheong pork rib rice was delicious.
The bean curd veggies was also on point and definitely a great place to go if you are craving for clean canto cuisine.

Yumcha dinner was good given that you just had to tick what you want for your order. Saved time and convenient if you ask me. Was quite happy with the ambience and staff swere accommodating.

The Dixon Street pedestrian mall hasn’t really recovered from the global pandemic. Visiting for a Sunday lunch with friends, it’s largely devoid of outdoor tables: even the touters are gone. This is despite City of Sydney finding, late last year, that 83 per cent of people interested in the future of Haymarket want more outdoor dining. The only venue that still boasts a queue is Emperor’s Garden Cakes and Bakery for their cream puffs. It all feels a bit sad as we climb the stairs into an empty Nine Dragons, an area stalwart that opened when I was three.
Bar for a roving robot waiter, the dining room retains a traditional look with golden dragons, patterned circular shades, private rooms and plenty of large circular tables draped in white tablecloths with lazy Susans and high-backed chairs. The room slowly fills around us, with most eating yum cha ordered from a laminated card marked up with an erasable pen. Prawn toast ($12.80/4) eats like a childhood memory, though you might prefer dragging it through hot rather than sweet red chilli sauce. Rice noodles perform well across char siu ($11.10) and king prawn ($12.80), punctuated by XO green beans ($15.30). Char siu also scrubs up nicely in pillowy soft BBQ pork buns ($9.80/3).
We load our lazy Susan with layers of bamboo steamer baskets, including beef ($10.10), pork ($12.80) and scallop-topped prawn and pork siu mai ($12.80). The standouts are crescent-shaped king prawn and chive dumplings ($11.30). Fried almond prawn balls ($12.80/3) are an interesting innovation, as are silky beancurd rolls filled with tenderly cooked vegetables dripping in a starch-thickened sauce ($9.80). While I finish on radish cakes ($10.10) slathered in hot chilli, the rest of the table enjoys bright orange mango pancakes ($11.80/3). Jasmine tea ($3.50/head) felt weak and uninspiring, so opt for TsingTao ($9.30) on this trip down memory lane. While Nine Dragons is not the best yum cha I’ve visited in Sydney, it does the job in the heart of town for a (slightly inflated) sixty bucks each.

Very mediocre. Everything is lukewarm and dumplings are either stuck together or with very thick wrapper. Spinach dumplings & siu mais are decent but that's pretty much it. Stir fry long bean were not even cooked the proper way so it came out soggy.

Soup was lovely, I was pleased I couldn’t taste any MSG. And dessert was also a highlight too (steamed papaya)
Everything was really well made. We really enjoyed it. Bit pricey for what you are getting but the menu is appetising and everything tasted good.

Came here for yumcha on a whim, didn’t expect much as we walked in and there were no yumcha carts or yumcha ladies but decided to give it a chance anyways. You order by writing on a menu with a whiteboard marker which is honestly kinda genius ngl lol but anyways the yumcha menu is very small. Service was kinda slow and tou didn’t automatically get sauces. The best dish was definitely the turnip cakes which was absolutely delicious, so fragrant by itself and you can add chilli sauce to make it even better. Chicken feet is a miss here though, they didn’t taste very fresh. All in all, this restaurant is more catered towards tourists

We went to the restaurant early evening on a Saturday. It was our first time visiting this restaurant. If you are looking for a high end restaurant in terms of decor and Michelin star food, this it not it. However, if you are looking for a reasonably priced Chinese restaurant, where the food and service are of a high standard then, Nine Dragons is it. We were originally reluctant because of the 3.9 review on Google but the Yum Cha menu available throughout the day and evening drew us in. The Long Bao and Prawn and Chive Dumplings were delicious. I wouldn’t necessarily have the pork and prawn spring rolls again as the dumplings were far better. For mains, we went for prawns with Nine Dragons sauce, which were sweet with a delicate spice and chicken with black bean. The mains were really nice and were accompanied with a generous portion of fluffy special fried rice.

The food is delicious , they do not push the trolley around but you can order from menu provided . Staff is nice and assist us right away when we need . They have a robot who brings the food out to you , which is quite interesting .
The only thing I did not like was the old smell from carpet when we stepped in the restaurant . Fit out was also a bit old and dark , Which did not bring great first impression . It is good that food turns out quite tasty .

Had a lovely experience here. The entrance looks normal but the interior is nicely decorated with Chinese elements. The restaurant is pretty empty on Sunday night. We had the coconut fowl soup, the Budda delight soup, two fish dishes, lamb, chicken, pumpkin rice. The soup were good but the portion was small for its price. The rice didn't look very appealing but I like it. The other dishes are so so.

Lovely restaurant - solid choice in Chinatown, not run down interior like many others. Ordered double happiness banquet (only one available for only 2 ppl) all dishes tasty and hot and generous amount of food for 2. Would love for other banquet options to be available for 2 also (most min 4 ppl)

I don’t know how I came to love soup so much, I think I simply grew up drinking it. Soups to me is very important, I can drink any kind of soup every single day!
Double steamed soup at steam king are SO GOOD !!! They’re so traditional and are delicious !!! Hot soup “clear my heart” and steam king offers so many different kind of soups, we had the Buddha jump over the wall, coconut chicken and pork ribs soup, they’re all super yummy, as well as other dishes during the dinner! The papaya & bird nest for dessert absolutely blow our mind!!! 💖🙌🏽
