Very informative exhibition with English translation.

A rather small and quiet museum, exploring the history of Kyoto. It's free, so consider stopping by if you need a break. The ground floor displays their latest findings (including recently published literature in Japanese), sadly the descriptions of the artifacts are in Japanese only. Go upstairs for the permanent exhibition, most texts there are also available in English. The people are very friendly and will hand you many pamphlets.

Small museum that’s free! It’s two floors with a good size collection of artifacts from Joman to Edo period Kyoto. The english descriptions are limited but enough that you get a good idea of the exhibitions. The base Goshuin is only 300 with the fancier ones being 1000 yen

I'm rating it 3 stars with English-speaking tourists in mind, as there is not much support and the exhibits are quite sparse. For an adventurous person with some Japanese knowledge, this is good fun. It's affiliated with the University so there are revolving exhibits curated by staff and students. You will see some artefacts in their rough glory, not overly polished.

Wow off the beaten track. But definitely worth seeing
