Gone to many shows here over the years and I've never been disappointed. Staff are friendly and do their absolute best to keep lines moving, as well as being super helpful if patrons need directions or questions answered. Theatre is clean and inviting, though balcony seats are a little tight but that is to be expected given the age of the building. Cannot recommend seeing something here enough.
This is great place to be connected to the amazing music shows. Recently viewed musical Jesus Christ Superstar. It's worth every penny! Highly recommended.
Great theatre it is always clean and so well organised by all the helpful staff for both attending and leaving efficiently. Some notes that might help people: There are multiple bars on different levels so if one is busy you can dry a different floor, and also when driving here if you park in the St James Quarter car park you can validate your ticket inside the Playhouse and parking will be fixed at £8, what a bargain.
Whilst the performance was top quality, Swan Lake ballet, it was marred by the number of people allowed in after the show began, up to 20 minutes into the show! Also the number of people unwrapping noisy sweet wrappers, opening cans and bottles throughout the performance, phones going off and people moving and talking during the performance. There seems to be no understanding of theatre etiquette anymore. This is not a cinema, it is the largest theatre in the UK and should be world class. The artists are working hard to entertain, the least people can do is go an hour without food, drink and phones! Also seats are narrow and uncomfortable even for short people like myself, not a lot of legroom! There is not enough of a rake in the stalls and spent the whole evening moving my head to try and see the action on the stage due to tall people in front and not enough staggering of seats. Queues for the bathroom were huge and resulted in delays to people returning after the interval.

We were here the 12th Jan to watch Wicked.

The play was honestly amazing everything we could have dreamed of.

It couldn’t have been easier to get in, be seated and order drinks (we did have slight confusion but the staff were incredibly helpful and made the whole experience right for us).

We even have a staff member help us later on that night take our picture outside the theatre which was incredibly kind.

The queues for all women's toilets looped round longer than a roller-coaster line at Alton Towers.

The security guard made snooty comments about how women queuing will miss the start of the second half after the intermission. The bell ringer laughed when she saw the never ending queue for the women's beckoning people to leave the line and take their seats.

A young girl vommitted in the middle of the queue as she was unable to access the bathroom in time.

Following use of the toilet, women were then told to wait until a break between songs before taking their seat... So a huge volume of people were it disturbed during the performance as a result.

Also, the bar offer drinks in fragile plastic cups which dented and popped - I saw several people get drinks spilled on them from rows behind due to this. Even festival theatre have branded hard cups. If you're going to charge £30 for 4 drinks, at least get a decent cup.

Finally, the seats aren't correctly alligned to allow comfortable viewing. As a smaller person I was underable to see past a woman's head directly in front of me dispute the lower tier. In other theatres it's comment for the rows to be staggered to prevent this issue.

Great auditorium, but I hope they have plans to improve and upgrade the toilet facilities soon. It was a torture to queue for the toilet during intermission. I can see the space for queueing was a big challenge spatially within the confines of the existing building, but improving the hygiene, facilities and finishes standards should be on their next major refurbishment list.
Three of us went to see Aladdin on the opening night, staff were welcoming and friendly. We ordered ice cream to be bought to our seats at the interval, this was bought in a timely manner.
Toilets and general appearance is clean and tidy.
Fantastic transport options outside with both tram and buses arriving regularly.
